After Luz and Amity reconciled, they decided to fly over to Blight Manor to help with construction of the containment chamber. They needed to deliver the werewolf repellents anyway. Well, more specifically Amity needed to. Luz couldn't touch them without hurting herself. So during the flight there, she was made to stay at least six feet away from girlfriend. She did not like this at all, and she made that very clear.
"I hate this." She grumbled.
"Luz, it's for your own safety. You know that." Amity said.
"I still hate it."
The purple haired witch giggled. Her girlfriend was just adorable, although she had to admit that she hated not being close to her either. It's a good thing the flight was only fifteen minutes.
The blight family had been informed of the couple's arrival, and they were all waiting for them when they touched down.
"Hey, girls!" Alador said as he ran up and hugged them. "How are you two holding up?"
"We're hanging in there. One day at a time as they say." Luz said as she hugged back. She then turned to hug the twins, but hesitated. She remembered the embarrassing moment she had last time and didn't want to repeat it.
Emira laughed and hugged her. "You're such a worrywort, Luz! I told you it wasn't a big deal. I know you would only do that willingly with Amity."
"Emira!" The purple haired witch shouted as her face turned red, the human witch did the same.
Now Edric laughed. "Come on, mittens. You know it's true."
"Sh-Shut up!"
"Alright, you two." Alador said to his two oldest children. "Keep the jokes to a minimum. We're trying to help them, not embarrass them."
"Sorry, Dad." Emira said. "We just can't help it. They're just so adorable when they get flustered."
Her father sighed. "I agree, but that's not something to take advantage of."
"I appreciate the effort, Dad." Amity said. "But I'm afraid it's a futile one."
"You don't know that yet. Anyway, you said you were bringing over some repellents, right?"
She nodded and gave her father the bag she had been carrying. Inside were numerous crosses and vials of holy water Camila, Vee, and Masha had bought from the Human Realm, as well as pendants the purple haired witch herself had enchanted.
Alador smiled. "Excellent! Come on, let's get all of this to Lilith. She's waiting for us in the lab."
As everyone began heading inside, Luz immediately took and squeezed Amity's hand, while also rubbing her head against her shoulder.
"Someone's being clingy." She giggled.
"Can you blame me?" The human witch replied. "I couldn't get close to you for fifteen minutes! Don't tell me it wasn't torture for you too."
"I didn't say it wasn't. I'm just glad it didn't make you wolf out."
"Yeah. I feel the same with Edric and Emira's teasing.
The purple haired witch groaned. "Titan, can you imagine if it did?"
Luz shuddered. "We'd be doomed.
The couple both laughed
….
Lilith was reading over some ancient texts when everyone entered the lab, and she smiled as she turned and saw Luz. Unlike the blight family, she had not seen the human witch since she was bitten. She had been completely focused on getting work done to help everyone with the situation, a little too much so according to Eda, but the historian didn't mind. This was lycanthropy after all, one of the worst curses the demon realm had ever known, so this in no way should be treated lightly.
"Luz!" She yelled as she ran up and hugged the human witch. "Are you okay? Have you been in any pain?"
"I'm good, Aunt Lilith." Luz said as she hugged back. "Thank you. It's just been a huge adjustment for me, but Eda's been really helping with that."
The historian smiled. "That's what she told me. She also said you've been doing a great job so far with your training. You must feel really good about that!"
"I do! I just wish it would move at a faster pace, you know what I-ow!"
The human witch winced in pain as she put her hand on her mouth. Her canines had grown out and cut her lip again.
"I also wish that would stop happening!"
Lilith shook her head. "It's alright. Lycanthropy is a very difficult curse to master, so don't think too hard about it. You're doing just fine."
Amity snickered. "I agree, but slow and steady isn't exactly Luz's style."
Her mentor sighed. "She's not doing anything reckless, is she?"
"No, she's fine. We just…need to make sure it stays that way."
The purple haired witch's smile faded, which made Lilith frown.
"What's wrong?"
Luz shook her head and put a reassuring arm around her girlfriend. "She just had a bit of a nervous breakdown earlier. The unknown element of this whole thing has been hard for her to cope with."
"I don't blame her." Alador said. "It's terrifying when you don't know what's going to happen. But that's exactly why we're taking these precautions, having backups for them, and having back ups for the back ups. We want to make sure that no matter what happens, we can handle it."
Amity nodded and stood up straighter. "That's right. Nothing bad will happen to my Batata. I won't allow it."
Lilith smiled. "That's the spirit, Amity. You also brought us some repellents to help with that, right?"
"Yep! Right here!" Amity took the bag from her father and brought it over to the historian, who nodded in approval upon seeing the contents.
"Perfect." She said. "This is exactly what we need. You performed the enchantment ritual well too."
"Oh, thank titan." The purple haired witch sighed with relief. "I was worried I didn't do it right."
"Nope, you did great. Let's not hang these up around the chamber just yet though. It still needs some work, and something tells me Luz would really like to help with that."
The human witch smiled. "You bet! I've been interested to see what this thing looks like."
"Oh, it's pretty sick." Edric said. "I think you'll love it. Come on, we'll show you."
Luz nodded and followed the group into another room of the lab. Alador turned on some lights to reveal the chamber he and his family had been working on, and the human witch was amazed to say the least. Darius had really come through for the Blight family, as he had sent them enough metal to make a large dome shaped structure that was twenty feet in diameter, with a height of twelve feet. It and the one door that led into it looked to be made of a very sturdy metal, and there were a few small windows to look into it. It was built like a fortress, and it was clear it would take some serious power to get through it.
"Wow." Was all Luz could say.
Amity smiled and put her arm around her. "Cool, right? It's made of titansten, the strongest metal in the demon realm. It's six inches thick, and the windows are made of equally thick acrylic we got from the Human Realm."
"The door also seals itself when shut." Alador said. "Giving no structural weakness whatsoever. Don't worry though, we installed a ventilation system so you can breathe."
"And the repellents we plan on using will make sure you can't teleport out of there." Emira said.
Luz turned to her with wide eyes. "Wait, I can teleport in my wolf form?"
"All lycanthropes can do it." Lilith said. "Even animaes. So we made sure this chamber would stand firm both physically and magically. And even if by fat chance none of this works, we're coming up with some backup plans just in case. We can't tell you what they are though as you might remember them in your beast form and try to counter them."
Luz gave a big smile and hugged each and every person in the room. "Thank you all so much for doing this." She said. "It really looks like you've thought of everything, and that means so much to me."
"You mean so much to me, Wolfie." Amity said. "I told you. This curse may hurt us, but it won't win no matter what, and I aim to keep that promise."
"Wolfie? Haha, that's so cute!" Edric laughed.
The purple haired witch blushed and scratched the back of her hear. "Yeah, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing honestly."
"I think it's adorable!" Emira squealed. "Oh, I should make that a name tag for Luz!"
The human witch narrowed her eyes. "You're not giving me a name tag, Emira."
"Aww, but Luz-"
"No."
….
Emira tried for ten minutes to convince Luz that her werewolf form would look cute with a name tag, but the human witch wouldn't budge. Some things were too ridiculous even for her. Once that was settled, it didn't take long for everyone to get into a groove, getting work done and having friendly conversations with each other.
Amity was especially happy about this. After the mental breakdown she had earlier that morning, she really needed something to help distract her from everything that was going on, and it was clear that Luz felt the same way.
The human witch was currently carrying a few boxes of equipment over to the chamber, or rather several. Most people would struggle with carrying so much weight, but she was doing it with little to no effort.
Alador couldn't help but whistle in amazement. "Wow, Luz. Your curse has given you some muscle."
"Heh, yeah." She said as she put the boxes down. "It's definitely one plus to being a werewolf. I would probably be awesome at sports."
"You mean more than you already are?" Amity asked as she welded some metal together.
Luz blushed. "Come on Amity, I'm not a star player or anything."
"Could have fooled me. And even if you weren't before, you certainly would be now."
Edric chuckled as he hammered in a bolt. "Either that or she'd be banned. Something tells me having super strength and speed would be an unfair advantage."
"You think?" Lilith asked as she sorted through the repellents. "She could probably throw a grudgby ball right out of the arena."
Luz smiled. "Oh yeah, I would be the team captain in no time!"
She then shook her head. "Edric's right though. My superhuman abilities wouldn't make me qualified for sports. You could say that for a lot of things actually…"
Her smile faded, and Emira noticed it right away. She stopped what she was doing and turned to her.
"What's wrong?"
Luz sighed. "We're keeping everything about my curse under wraps right now. But I know we can't keep it a secret forever, and I'm scared of how people will react when they do eventually find out."
Amity stopped what she was doing and sighed. This wasn't really something her or anyone else had thought much about yet, but it was true. What would be everyone's reaction to finding out Luz was a werewolf? It would be a shock, for sure, but was it really something to worry about?
The purple haired witch took off her welder's mask and walked up to her girlfriend.
"What are you afraid of?" She asked.
"I'm afraid that they'll hate me without even asking questions." Luz said. "That they'll judge me just for what I am."
"Do you really think they'll do that?"
"Amity, there is nothing good ever said about werewolves in the old legends, and for good reason. They were monsters who preyed upon innocent people and enjoyed it. How do you think they'll react when they learn I'm one of them?"
The purple haired witch shook her head and placed her hands on her girlfriend's shoulders. "First of all, you're not one of them. We already went through this. You'll always be Luz Noceda no matter what. And second, why on earth would anyone hate you? You're worshiped by the people, because you saved them all from Belos. They might be shocked about your condition, but there is no way they could hate you."
"Hate her? No, but Luz isn't that far off." Lilith said.
Everyone turned to her with a puzzled look, so she continued. "It's true that pretty much everyone views Luz as a hero, a light that shone at the darkest hour. But when they find out that she has lycanthropy, that's going to shake things up. Some may become fearful, questioning whether or not their hero can still be trusted, and wondering if anyone would be safe."
"Do you seriously believe that?" Edric asked. "That sounds ridiculous if you ask me."
Alador shook his head. "You'd be surprised how easy it is for fear to affect people, Edric. We know that Luz's curse doesn't change her as a person, but the people don't know that. She'll have to prove it to them, and doing that won't be easy."
"So they will hate me." Luz said sadly.
Lilith shook her head. "No. They'll just be afraid. Not of you, but of your curse. And like you said, it's easy to understand why. So you'll have to show them that not even this can keep you down. If you do, then I think their belief in you will become even stronger. You just need to be ready to endure any criticism that may come."
She then smiled and put a reassuring hand on the human witch's shoulder. "However, I don't believe it will be as bad as you think it will be. I think Amity's right in that many will support you just like we are. You just have to be ready for the ones that won't.
The human witch sighed and rubbed her temples. "I guess I'll have to add that to my list, won't I? Titan, as if dealing with this curse isn't bad enough…"
Amity kissed her on the cheek. "Don't think too hard about it, Batata. Proving yourself is something you're really good at, so I think this is right up your alley. Besides, if we can handle your curse, we can easily handle a couple jerks.
Luz nodded. "I know. It's just the idea of people hating me after everything I've done, it just upsets me."
"Who cares what they think? They don't know what we know, so screw them."
The human witch chuckled softly. "Right. I'm not doing this for them, I'm doing this for myself, and it's okay to take care of myself."
"That's a good attitude, Luz." Emira said. "Obviously, it's important to take care of others, but it's just as important to take care of yourself."
"Absolutely." Lilith said. "And you're already applying that to your training, so you're definitely on the right path."
Amity then perked up. "Speaking of training, why don't you ask Hunter to help you with that, Luz? I think he's working with Eda's dad today, but I'm sure he'll be more than happy to come over to the owl house when he's done. After all, he knows a thing or two when it comes to accepting yourself, despite what others think."
The human witch's face lit up. "That's a great idea, Amity! I can't believe I didn't think of that sooner! I'll give him a call when we're done and see if he's available."
"I have no doubt he will be." Alador said. "He's a lot like you in that he always makes time for those he cares about."
"Unless he's with Willow." Edric joked.
Emira rolled her eyes. "Don't even get me started on that!"
"Ditto." Amity said. "I'd rather forget about the things I've seen."
The two sisters shuddered and Luz got wide eyed.
"I don't know what you guys are referring to. And based on that reaction, I don't think I want to know."
...
The second she and Amity finished helping the Blight family with their work, Luz called Hunter and asked if he was willing to help her with her training when he was done helping Dell, and the grimwalker immediately said yes. In fact, he even asked Dell for permission to leave early as he considered Luz's curse more of a priority, and his mentor agreed with him.
Luz couldn't help but smile at that. It showed that Hunter cared deeply for her, and that he was more than willing to go out of his way to help her. She needed as much of that as she could right now.
When she and Amity arrived back at the owl house, Eda was outside waiting for them with Owlbert, and she motioned to head around to the backyard by the treeline. Luz was already interested. This was definitely going to be different from the training she had done so far.
"Hey, so Hunter called." The owl lady said as the couple touched down. "Said he wanted to help you get in the grove with your powers?"
Her apprentice nodded.
"Yeah, Amity said he could help teach me to use my abilities properly. I thought it was a great idea. I hope you don't mind."
"Nah, it's fine. Honestly, I'm surprised it took him this long to get involved, given how much of a fanboy he is with wolves."
"What's wrong with that?"
The trio turned and saw the grimwalker himself touching down next to them. Amity gave a teasing smile.
"Oh, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just you can be a little too into it if you catch my drift."
Hunter just smirked. "Look who's talking. I've seen all the Azura propaganda you and Luz have."
The purple haired witch frowned. "Hey, that's different! Azura is a beautiful work of fiction that's so emotional and thought provoking! There's no comparison!"
Luz sighed and put a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder. "A noble effort, Mi Amor, but he's right. We're both pretty hopeless."
Amity tried to think of a counter argument, but came up blank. She sighed in defeat. "You win this round, Hunter."
"Ha! Score one for me!"
Eda and Owlbert did their best to hold back their laughter while the former held up her hand. "Alright, we're not here to see you two get competitive again. We're supposed to be helping Luz."
"Right, sorry." Hunter said as he stood straight. "How exactly do you want to use your powers, Luz?"
The human witch thought for a moment before responding. "I want to go all the way with them. I mean, it's one thing to apply them to basic daily activities, but I want to really know how to use them."
The grimwalker smiled. "Well then, you came to the right guy. I'm pretty sure I know exactly how you can do all that."
Luz smiled and started bouncing on her heels. "Awesome! So where do we start?"
Hunter smiled back. "Follow me, you guys too."
He proceeded to lead everyone into the woods, but not too far. He wanted to keep the owl house in sight so they didn't get lost. Even then though, Luz started feeling a bit nervous about being there. The surrounding trees brought back all the memories of when she fought the werewolf. The horrible roars it made, those piercing yellow eyes, and the bite. Oh titan, the bite. The pain had been searing and unbearable, and she could almost feel it just from the thought alone.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when someone took her hand, and turned to see Amity with a worried look.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
The human witch took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. Just bad memories, that's all."
"Do you need your medicine?"
"I'm okay. Thank you, Mi Amor."
She kissed her girlfriend on the cheek, which made her smile.
"Alright, this should be good." Hunter said as they entered a small clearing. "Luz, you've gotten a good grip on transforming your hands, right?"
The human witch nodded. "Sure do, at least for the most part."
"What about your feet?"
"I can grow my claws out, but I'm still working on the morphing part."
"Hmmm. Yeah, that should be good enough."
Hunter then looked at the surrounding trees before walking over to one that was quite large and sturdy. "How fast do you think you can climb this tree with your claws?"
Luz gave a confused look. "Do wolves climb trees?"
"No, but you do, and so do lycanthropes. So this would be a great place for you to start. I want you to climb this tree with just your claws. No grabbing onto branches."
"Huh?"
"Your claws will be more than enough to grip the trunk and climb it. Trust me."
Eda sighed. "Oh boy. Might as well make a landing pad for her when she falls."
"Yep." Amity replied as she cast her abomination goo to form a soft landing pad at the base of the tree.
"Do I even need that?" Luz asked. "Even if I get hurt, my body will just heal itself."
Her girlfriend gave her a look. "Breaking a bone still hurts. You're saying you want that?"
"Eh, good point."
The human witch took a few breaths to psyche herself up before taking her shoes and socks off and stepping on the pad. She then grew out the claws on her hands and feet before cautiously gripping the trunk of the tree with her right hand. Sure enough, the claws sunk in with ease, and they held firm as she pulled down.
Alright. She thought. Here goes nothing.
She picked her left foot up and placed it onto the trunk. Those claws sunk in with ease as well. A good start. She then tried to lift herself up, but her foot popped out of the bark and she fell back onto the pad. She let out a huff before getting back up and trying again, now placing her foot at a different angle to get more grip. This time it held firm, and she soon got into a rhythm. Right hand, left foot. Left hand, right foot. It was a bit slow, but it was working as the human witch made her way up the tree.
She only got a quarter of the way up however when the claws in her foot suddenly retracted, causing her to lose her grip and fall back onto the pad.
"Ugh!" She growled in frustration.
"It's alright, Luz." Eda said. "Just keep trying. Remember, let the energy flow through your body, rather than focusing on one part at a time."
The human witch nodded and got back up to grab the tree for a third time. She did exactly what her mentor suggested, letting her power flow and keeping her hands and feet the way they were while she focused solely on climbing. She made her way past the quarter mark, then the halfway mark, then three quarters, all the with her hands and feet maintaining their form.
Finally, she reached the top, and she had the biggest smile on her face when she did.
"Yes! Take that, tree!" She shouted victoriously.
"Yeah, Luz!" Eda shouted. "You go, girl!"
"Great job, Luz!" Hunter shouted. "How does it feel?"
"It feels great!" The human witch shouted back. "Oh titan, climbing is gonna be so much more fun from now on!"
The grimwalker chuckled. "That and probably a few other things. Want to go again?"
"You bet!"
Getting down the tree was a lot quicker and easier than getting up, so it took no time at all for Luz to touch back down on the ground. When she did, she had her giddy and excited look on her face.
"Alright, round two! Maybe this time I'll-"
But she stopped when she looked at Amity. Her girlfriend's eyes were wide as saucers and she had a dorky smile on her face, which was now as red as a tomato.
Luz smirked and put her hands on her hips. "What? Was my display so impressive, you're at a loss for words?"
"Ummm…no, it's…uhh…"
Her girlfriend pointed behind her. Confused, the human witch turned around, and let out a yelp when she did. A big furry tail had grown out of her backside. It was a few feet long and had the same color hair as that on her head. She was so focused on climbing that she hadn't noticed it.
She turned back around, now also incredibly flustered. "I'm sorry…uhh…I didn't know that was there."
"N-No, i-it's okay." Amity stuttered. "I think it looks…good on you."
"Don't you mean hot?" Eda said with a smirk, causing the purple haired to blush even harder. She took out an invisibility glyph and disappeared while Luz did the same.
Eda and Hunter were now on the ground laughing. The couple wished they could disappear completely from the demon realm at that moment, and they soon reappeared as they could only hold their breaths for so long. Though by that point, Luz had already gotten halfway up the tree with Amity on her back.
"You're even worse than Edric and Emira!" The human witch shouted down at them, which only made them laugh harder.
….
Since humans don't usually have tails, finding out how to make hers retract was a process and a half for Luz. It also didn't help that she was being teased by Eda and Hunter while doing so, but they soon stopped when they realized how irritated she was getting. Luz was a sweetheart, but even she had boundaries, and she appreciated that they respected them.
Once everything had calmed down, the human witch spent the next couple hours getting the hang of using her claws to climb, or even jump between trees. This in particular made Amity's eye twitch a little, but thankfully there were no major falls. And after a while of practicing, her girlfriend was starting to look more like a monkey than a werewolf.
Luz even opted to hop in between trees on the way back home rather than walking, something everyone found amusing, and only got back on the ground when they arrived (after she had to go back for the socks and shoes she forgot).
"Okay." Amity said. "I think you're enjoying this way too much."
"Can you blame me?" Luz asked. "It's so much fun, and I think it would be great exercise too!"
"It probably would." Hunter agreed. "Though I recommend doing that just here for now. Otherwise, you're gonna raise quite a few eyebrows."
The human witch snickered. "Yeah, it probably would. I'm cool with that though. I'm not ready to tell people about my curse just yet."
"And we got all the time in the world." Eda said. "So no need to rush anything."
"Yep." Luz said. "Although I may never get used to taking things slow and steady."
Her mentor laughed. "If you did, I would be worried. Now, it's getting to be around dinner time. Who's hungry?"
Everyone raised their hands and all began to follow the owl lady back to the house. They could use a good meal after a long day.
While they were walking, Luz leaned into Amity's ear and whispwred. "Do you want me to keep my tail out? I can tell you really like it."
The purple haired witch turned red. "L-Luz! Not in front of everyone!"
"Be honest, Mi amor. Do you want me to?"
There was no point in denying it. Amity's blush gave it away, so she just sighed and nodded. "Yes."
Luz smiled and kissed her cheek. "Then your wish is my command. Just try not to step on it."
The purple haired witch giggled. "Trust me, I've had a lot of practice with Ghost."
They both shared a quick kiss before heading inside.
"No, you don't." They both said.
