Usachi
Author Notes: We have returned my friends...though this chapter came about sooner then I expected. *glances behind me*
Jin: *hopeful eyes* Yay new chapter~
Sen: *Wields knife and rope* Usachi Usachi Usachi!
Mako: ...Anyways it's time to get the show on the road *sigh* Never a moment of peace...but sucks to be my co-authors because it's not a part 2 of the gameplay they want~ I do not own Danganronpa or any other games.
3rd P.O.V
*Cute little chime begins to play*
Usachi-usausa usachi. We love to play- you and me~
Usachi Usachi. Here we are 1-2-3.
Usa-us-us-usachi What game to play?
We shall see~
Chihiro enters the screen, wearing a bright smile as she waves to the camera. "Hey guys~ Merry Christmas to those who celebrate!" It was a bit different this time around as the programmer was the only one there.
But not only that but their little gamer area in Hajime's dorm had multi-colored lights and fake plastic snowflakes hanging around. It was a nice little change for the holidays. And the short girl was all for the festivities as she wore a green elf hat~
"So usually Chiaki or Hajime would be here to greet you all for the intro...but Chiaki is running a bit late today since she promised to help her teacher with something. And Hajime is a actually behind the camera wrapping up gifts for the secret santa his class is doing later." The mentioned male groans.
He was not ready for the holidays yet. "The worst part is I won't even be done after this. I promised my friend Mikan that I would help get some some of the party supplies...then I got to make sure Teruteru gets all of the food and baked good situated before heading over there."
It never ends, the teen sighs as he enters the screen, setting up the new game. "We decided that for the holidays we'd let Chihiro take over with a nice simple game that I've had lying in my game library for awhile. It's called 'Kinoko." Chihiro claps her hands in excitement.
"So i've never heard of it, but just by what Hajime told me it's supposed to be a peaceful short adventure? I'm curious to see what its about." Hajime gives her the controller and essentially the spotlight as he heads back towards his dark den of wrapping paper.
Filled to the brim with bows, sparkles and other horrors. "Gack!" Chihiro winces as Hajime trips over said horrors, smacking painfully onto the floor. "Are you ok Hajime?" The brunette groans, but does give her the thumbs up symbolizing he's alive. "Get started..."
Laughing nervously, the sweet programmer presses the start button. Already her eyes begin to sparkle as she takes in the beautiful snowbound visuals and music. "Ohhh Kinoko is so cute~" Actually she's impressed with the design of the game as a whole.
The environment around Kinoko looks like something ripped straight out of Hope's Peaks forest. "Wow..." Immediately she squeals seeing the little owl perched on the stumps. If it were up to her she wouldn't even play the game.
She was perfectly content with listening to the lovely background music and let Kinoko stand there in the beautiful level. But, on the other hand, she was already impressed with the graphics presented to her now...she wanted to see what else this game had to offer.
With furrowed brows, Chihiro plays with the controls, getting an understanding of how her little mage moves, she quickly gets her character to run...before stumbling into a tree. "Oops." The girl blushes as she hears a somewhat loud snort in the background before the sound of sharp shears slicing through paper.
"So Hajime what am I supposed to do?" As much as she enjoyed the prospect of giving Kinoko a try...she's not really a gamer. That was Chiaki's area of expertise. Still she was grateful that her junior was willing to find something she could handle playing.
And to think this was also free. "Give me a sec." It takes a few moments before she gets an answer, but she does get one. After Hajime struggled with tapping the sides of one of his gifts does he look up as his fellow student. "Sorry about that." One present down...
A million and one more to go. "Now...this is an exploration game where you turn winter into spring. You do things like smack snow off of trees to change the environment. Do all the tasks for that section and you'll gain access to a new one."
She hummed in understanding, now seeing why she was given a weird reaction with the tree she collided with. She didn't press anything, afraid she would mess up but now that Hajime explained things she turns her character around.
Watching curiously as Kinoko dispels the pine tree of its white layers with the stick the little mage was holding. "I see~" It wasn't difficult for her to find all the tasks for this level, as the things she had to do were relatively a few feet from each other if that.
But still, despite doing so little, she was mesmerized by the changes she was making. Seeing lush green grass and bright sunshine beam down at Kinoko made it seem magical. So it was no surprise her immersion broke, her jumping nearly three feet in the air when Hajime's dorm door opened with a loud, irritating creak.
"Sorry I'm late." A mop of shoulder length pink hair pops in through the opening. "Chihiro's recording? Should I go?" Immediately Chihiro shakes her head, waving the girl in. "Come check out this game Hajime gave me." With a smile the pinkette enters.
Dropping her bag down she takes in the little owl that Kinoko is right next to. "Cute." Chiaki giggles as her friend nods her head rapidly...before blinking in confusion. She looks over her shoulder. "Hey hey. What are you doing Hajime?"
The teen in question huffs, shooting his friend a small glare. "What does it look like? I'm wrapping up everyone's gifts for the secret santa later. Remember you're helping Ibuki and Mahiru with setting up the music after this." Both girls blink, with each of them glancing a each other in confusion.
Though it's Chiaki who asks. "What do you mean 'everyone's?' Isn't the point of a secret santa meaning no one knows who's getting what from who?" Chihiro continues playing, furrowing her eyebrows as she approaches a little stone pillar.
Somewhat tuning out the conversation going on behind her. "I thought you were helping Ms. Yukizome? Didn't she tell you she put me on gift wrapping duty?" He sighs as his classmate shakes her head. Of course not.
"With the exception of whoever's doing my gift. She had everyone drop off a gift that's already in a box at my door. She figured it'd be easier(and to some extent safer) if I gave a quick check and wrap them." It made a lot of sense now that it was explained to her.
Though she could clearly see the look of frustration on his face. Poor Hajime had a lot to do today..."Oh are those little animals following you?!" But at the moment their residential gamer was finding it hard to care since she- like her controller wielding companion- was too interested with Kinoko.
Together the girls tag team. Keeping their eyes peeled for any pine trees, dirt mounts and snow piles. It was the little details that were the most charming as Chiaki grabs her designated pillow. Resting her chin on the soft plush. "There! Right there on your left."
A yawn escaped her as lovely instrumentals wafted through her ears. She could fall asleep right now with no issues whatsoever. She could already feel her eyes drooping as Kinoko enters a cave full of illuminating mushrooms.
Lucky for Chiaki her co-star was able to keep her from falling off into la la land. "This is so cool!" Chiaki giggles, but doesn't point out the pun made. Figuring this wasn't the day to be the punny commenter. "It helps that there's no enemies here to attack you-" The Ultimate gamer cuts herself off.
Both of them wince as Kinoko falls off a ledge, only to sigh in relief as little Kinoko continues moving as if it never happened. "Or take fall damage. I'm actually surprised this is Hajime's game. Usually he likes murder mysteries." Much to their surprise he leaves his dark corner to sit with them.
He had a ton to do still...but he wanted to stop now before he ripped his hair off. "Yeah 'Usually' being the key word. I found this little gem after my entrance exams. If I remember right there's even a free soundtrack you can download and listen to. I always play it when I'm studying."
With a sigh he stretches his arms over his head. Getting comfortable as Chihiro unlocks another area. "I'll be sure to put the link to this game down into the description if anyone is interested. The best way to put it is- Kinoko is simply charming." His two companions agreed with his statement.
Even though the little magician Chihiro was playing as didn't really speak- not that there'd need to really be dialogue in this game- was adorable. "I love how natural everything looks-even the stone pathways that form every time you move forward into the game."
Compared to the other games the trio has had on their channel...this one was different. Ronpandangan was a murder mystery visual novel that loved to rip your heart to shreds. Pokemon Colosseum was a rpg in a world where thugs ran rampant with their shadow pokemon.
Tattletail was a horror exploration where the main character had to exorcise a demonic mama furby reject. Even Galactica was an old school, fast paced, space shooting game. All of them relied on tension and quick thinking or reflexes.
It seemed so bizarre coming to such an easy going exploration. It wasn't an open world or sandbox style game, nor was it an rpg or visual novel. There was no conflict, no villains or even a narrative. Still...it was undoubtedly a wonderful experience. "The flowers are so pretty~"
Hajime rested his hands on lap as he sat forward. Grinning at his friends' reactions. Knowing exactly what they were feeling. He's come back to this game time and time again, and it's never gotten old. If anything it's even better sharing this experience with others.
"What I like best about this game, other then how peaceful it is...is the fact that you're creating life. You're bringing forth spring, revitalizing the land you walk. Even though you're just doing a couple small things-it makes a huge difference and I can't help but be motivated to do it in the real world."
He blinks as both Chihiro and Chiaki stare at him for a moment. "What?" The teen was starting to get uncomfortable with those looks. "That was very poetic of you Hajime." His response is a simple eyebrow raise. Not really seeing the big deal. By habit he couldn't help turning away with a slight blush.
Any comments or retorts he was trying to think of cut off as butterflies suddenly encircle Kinoko from the field of flowers just bloomed. "Ohh a cutscene!" They immediately take note of a new instrumental playing.
Smiles form on each of their faces as the character tips their hat to the screen before that butterfly tornado spreads out like a wave. "Aw is that it?!" Chiaki pouts in her spot-she just got here! "It can't be...That was too quick!"
Much to their dismay the credits start rolling, signaling their sad confirmation. "Why didn't you warn us Hajime!?" Hajime stifling a yawn he turns to the camera. Completely ignoring the hurt puppy dog faces being sent his way. He DID say this was a short game.
"Yes unfortunately that is the end. Again links in the description for the game. Next time we'll see if we can grab Gundham for more pokemon but until then thanks for watching. Hope you all have a safe, happy holiday. Later."
Hopping right onto his feet to not only turn off the camera to end tonight's segment...but also to again avoid the heart breaking expressions the girls were giving him. Even when he's not trying to he's still the cause of many sad, salty tears.
to be continued
Author Notes: So no joke...I played this game with Jin and Sen watching ages ago, and to this day I still remember it fondly. I wanted to do a winter/christmasy story for one shot week and it suddenly came to me as I was working on my other drafts.
Sen: B-but...Ronpandangan! Pleaseeeee!
Mako: It helps that I also wanted to make my co-authors suffer
Jin: So mean.
Mako: Apparently i'm as cruel as Hajime, maybe that's why I love writing him so much lol. But as short and simple as the game was Kinoko still strikes a cord with me. I enjoyed playing it as short as it was.
Jin: The music was awesome as well.
Sen: Too bad it was so short. Would've loved to see a bigger world with more tasks and a full on story.
Mako: Maybe one day we'll get that. For now though that is it. Everyone thank you all so much for reading. If you like this series please feel free to fav/follow/review. Or check out the other holiday stuff we've done.
Jin: *checks out account* Holy crap that's a lot of stories
Sen: Mako's done a lot over the years...
Mako: It'll be ten years and April that we first started our account for fanfiction.
Sen: Wow...time flies.
Mako: I feel old now.
Jin: We'll feel older on our birthday in June...it'll mark milestones for our friendships as well.
Sen: Oh yeah you guys have the same birthday.
Mako: Small world we live in. But that is seriously it guys. See you next time tchao for now~
