Chapter 4
Rose was huddled up with her sister trying to keep warm. Snowflakes were falling from the sky as they traveled through a frozen glacial landscape.
"No one said anything about cold." Pintel complained, shivering.
"I'm sure there's a good reason for us suffering." Ragetti pointed out as he rubbed his arms trying to keep warm.
"Why didn't the obeah woman just bring back Jack the way she brought back Barbossa?"
Rose shook her head lightly as she looked at her sister. "I'm going to check on the sailing to see if we're almost there." She said rubbing her almost numb hands against her sister's hands trying to keep her warm. But nothing about this place was going to keep any of them warm.
Elizabeth nodded her head as she watched her sister back away from her and stumbled up towards the stairs leading up to the wheel.
Rose shivered, rubbing her arms slightly as she made her way up the stairs. She could only hope that bringing back Jack meant that they would be able to stop Beckett from destroying the world and making it impossible for anyone to live, including merchants. She was unsure of the reason why Beckett would want to control everything, but perhaps it was buried in that deep and twisted mind that she didn't want to even know. She saw Will moving the circles around on the chart.
"Nothing here is set. It can't be as accurate as modern charts." Will said looking up from the charts to Huang.
"No, but it leads to more places."
Rose came over letting out a breath rubbing her arms looking at the charts.
"Over the edge, back, over again, sunrise sets, flash of green."
Rose pursed her lips together in worry. "What…"
"Do you care to interpret, Barbossa?" Will questioned looking over at the Captain that was leading them on this rough bout of an adventure.
"Ever gazed upon the green flash, Mister Gibbs?" Barbossa questioned looking over at Gibbs.
"I reckon I've seen my share." Gibbs said with a nod of his head turning his attention to Will. "Happens on rare occasions, at the last glimpse of sunset, a green flash shoots up into the sky. Some go their whole lives and never see it. Some claim to have seen it who ain't. Some say…"
"It signals when a soul comes back to this world from the dead." Pintel said cutting Gibbs off.
Gibbs gave him a glare.
Pintel swallowed the lump in his throat. "Sorry."
Barbossa grinned at Will. "See, Mister Turner? We will find a way. It's not getting to the land of the dead is the problem. It's getting back."
Rose took a breath through her nose shaking her head lightly. "Sounds ominous and dangerous for all of us involved."
Will looked over at Rose knowing that she was right in some sense. His mind was on getting Jack back so they could do the Brethren Court and try to stop Beckett from expanding his curse upon the ocean. "We're doing this to save Jack…"
"And bring on the Brethren Court. I know, but… I'm just worried, what if none of them want to meet… then Beckett will have control of the seas and the day of the life of the pirate is dead and gone lost to time and history."
Will patted his soon to be sister in law on the shoulder knowing that she was worried about the right things. Perhaps she knew more about Beckett than he previously thought since he was after her hand in marriage.
"You should go and talk to Elizabeth…" She said softly.
Will looked at her confused.
"You two haven't said much of a single word to one another after leaving Singapore. It's best to talk things over than leave things unsaid." She said looking up at Will. "If something happens to either one of you one of you will regret not saying anything at all."
Will swallowed the lump in his throat knowing that Rose was telling the truth. She was speaking from experience. He was sure that there were countless things that she wanted to say to James, but James picked the latter in not saying anything at all and took off with the chest leaving her alone in a world of heartache.
"Go and talk to her. It won't hurt." Rose said softly, pushing him towards talking to Elizabeth. She didn't want either of them to have any sort of regrets.
Will took a breath as he walked down towards where Elizabeth was.
Rose took a breath through her nose as she looked up into the sky. She hoped that she was doing the right thing by having Will talk to Elizabeth.
Soon the snow stopped falling from the sky and they were out on the dark sea with no icebergs in sight.
Rose looked down seeing Will talking softly to Elizabeth. She took a soft breath hoping that the two of them would talk. Perhaps get everything out in the open instead of keeping everything bottled up inside of their bodies.
"Barbossa! Ahead!"
"Aye, these be the waters I know. We're good and lost now."
Rose blinked a few times in confusion.
"Lost?" Elizabeth questioned in concern. That was the one thing that they didn't want to be in. Lost upon the seas with no way of returning.
"For certain you have to be lost, to find a place as can't be found. Elseways everyone would know where it was, aye?" Barbossa said, letting out a laugh.
Gibbs looked over the rail confusion written upon his face. "We're gaining speed…"
"To stations! All hands! To stations!" Will called out knowing that this wasn't a good sign. "Rudder full! Hard a-port! Gather way and keep her trim."
Barbossa came forward next to Rose seeing his crew scrambling. "Belay that! Let her run straight and true!"
Rose took out a breath looking at Barbossa. "Have you gone mad?"
"Mad, aye. We're almost there."
The roar was deafening of the waterfall that they were now upon.
Will wrestled with the wheel trying to get them away from the edge.
"You've doomed us all!" Elizabeth said, turning her attention to Barbossa.
Barbossa barked out a laugh. "Don't be so unkind. Ye may not survive to pass this way again and these be the last friendly words ye'll hear."
The haul of the ship continued to go over the edge before it tilted over and toppled down towards the nothingness.
Babrossa laughed loudly at an eerie sound upon the wind as everyone else let out a cry of panic.
