Chapter 1

The earth clung around him, the soil and the rock giving way to his drill, like it always did. It gave him little hints of where to dig and where to avoid, grinding away before his tool in an unending struggle. Stuck in a little tunnel, he bore into the chilly rock towards a goal he did not know.

Simon wasn't someone special, strong or even all that brave, unlike the village chief or Kamina. He sighed when he remembered his self declared big brother's antics and his desires and attempts to escape to the surface. No matter how many times he failed or how often he was beaten, he never gave up. Always he got back up and fought again.

He still wasn´t quite sure if that was his honest intent or if he was just doing it to impress the girls. Kamina had a strange obsession with women, after all.

But it wasn't his place to comment on that. He was just Simon after all, a simple digger and that's what he was doing. Digging to expand Giha village.

Sure, he did ima-

His musings were broken by the sound of a hard thunk, halting his relentless drilling. Actually he didn't just stop, Simon was suddenly wrenched to the side, he was cranking the handheld hard by habit, so was unprepared to have his tool spin him in place.

"Ow, ow-" Simon patted himself over after he landed, he had a couple aches but nothing serious. "What was that…?"

Simon looked at his drill and frowned, seeing how the tip was partly crumpled, many of the teeth were crushed. How was that possible? All drills eventually broke down, but his own was tough, he had years worth of digging ahead.

Squeaks announced the arrival of his other friend, the tiny pigmole poking him on his side, under his cloak. "Boota, hey bud. You came quick, did you know something was down here?"

Boota squeaked, nestling in his cloak.

Simon shone his light on the stone, trying to see what caused this. What he found was… a chunk of rough black stone, completely undamaged. Running his hand over the cool rock, he frowned more. It was stone, but not like anything he had ever felt before, glossy and textured and… there was an indent on the surface.

His drill was in good enough condition that he could keep digging, he pried away the earth around the weird black stone bit by bit. And more, and more…

Simon didn't realize how big it was until he looked back, realizing that he had dug a cavity in the earth as large as someone's home. The black stone was shaped like a gigantic ring, as thick as his forearm's length, completely embedded in the stone, and utterly undamaged. Tall too, it was several times Kamina's height at the top. No matter how many times his drill ground off its surface, it didn't have a scratch.

Shining his light again, he raised a brow at the weird symbols on the top facing, a bunch of squiggles that he couldn't make heads or tails of. There were triangles too, nine of them altogether, with one being larger and more detailed.

"What is this thing?" Simon sat back, his rear landing on something metallic.

Turning, he found a chunk of discolored metal sticking out from the earth. He must have overlooked it digging out the giant circle. Feeling his muscles ache, he sighed and went back to digging.

Another stretch of time and he sat back, groaning. Oh Simon was tired, but what his efforts amounted to?

A giant ring, a pad with a bunch of symbols like the ring, and a metal face with red armor and an opening in the head. Three amazing finds in one day, what were the odds? Though, he didn't know how he was going to explain this… on the other hand it would increase the chances of him getting some extra molepig steaks. Not that he needed them, but Kamina always took from hi-

All of a sudden the circle clanked, the inner chunk began spinning on its own. Simon yelped despite his tiredness, jumping into the closest cover: the metal face, slipping on the ground and crashing face first against it, eliciting a sharp yelp. Ignoring the pain as much as he could, he pulled himself up and over it, heaping himself in its hollow insides, with Booba scratching him under his shirt over the commotion.

The ring made a machine-like double clank that was unlike anything he had ever heard before, and then a massive bloom of light shot up from the surface. It was almost like hitting a water pocket in the earth, reaching towards him, then it yanked back with a splash.

Simon cautiously poked his head from the top of the metal face, quivering in terror, and then in amazement. There was a glowing puddle in the interior of the circle, shining bright in the center and rippling like a water container. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before.

With a wet plop something came through.

It was shorter than him and shaped like a box, whirring as the thing rolled over the rough stone. It had an arm sticking up as it moved on wheels, creaking over the gravel into the opening he made. It was making beep sounds, as if it was calling for him.

Simon hid, watching the weird machine overlook the area in a slow yet smooth manner, paying close attention to the pad he dug out. When it went still he risked looking again, seeing the rippling surface being unchanged. He poked his head up, waving a hand to see how the box responded.

Instead the surface plopped again, before Simon could hide again four new figures stepped through. He froze, eyes widening at the sight of the new people stepping onto the rocks.

They were bigger than most of Giha's people, and looked way different in every way. They wore strange green-gray clothes, and tons of other weird stuff he didn't even know how to describe. The lead man was old looking, with a strange green hat as his gaze roamed over the cave, while the blond woman at his side did the same, her short hair looking amazingly clean. Behind her was a huge dark skinned man, a staff in one hand, a gold emblem in his forehead, and a face that could have been made of stone. Last was a man with glasses, who stepped out of the way.

Simon hunkered down the second they peered in his direction, holding his breath. They stepped around the spot as the puddle suddenly flashed, and with a crackle it vanished, plunging the cave in a quiet darkness. Lights flicked on, wider and brighter than his goggles, sweeping around to see what was here. They didn't sound like they were approaching him, he must not have been spotted.

"Hey you, its alright. We're not gonna hurt you." The speaker called, sounding surprisingly gentle. "Its okay, you can come out."

Simon poked his head up again, seeing that the speaker was the older man. He had lowered to a squat, brushing aside his tool to hold out empty hands. The others had given a wide berth, although the blond woman was giving the metal face an interested look.

"See? That wasn't hard now, was it?" The man with the grayish hair grinned while he went down on his knees. "What's your name kid?" He asked, calmly waiting in place.

"Um, I'm Simon. Simon the digger." He looked at them again and…. no, he had never seen them before. Which meant they weren't part of Giha village, which in turn shouldn't be possible - at last according to the chief.

"Nice name. I'm Jack O'Neill. With two 'll'." The man, Jack, patted against his chest. "That smartypants to the left is Carter, she knows machines like nobody's business. The one to my right is Daniel, if you have a library around here he'll be as happy as a clam. Oh, and that big guy doing the statue impression behind me is Teal'c. He's a big cuddle bear, don't let his looks fool you."

Simon had no idea what any of that meant, but the glasses guy, Daniel, huffed. "Well someone has to ask questions, but if you have a weapon or two you can keep Jack here happy for a week."

"Ha, ha." Jack smiled without any real malice, it seemed like an old routine with them. The Carter woman looked like she wanted to add her own comment but held it in, while the big man, Teal'c, simply nodded in acknowledgement.

"Ahem, sir? I just want to point out…" Carter stuck a finger at the drill in Simon's hand. He had forgotten it was there, there was so much to process.

"Relax Carter, it's just a drill. You're more likely to get a rash than get hurt." Jack brushed off.

Simon coughed. "So… where are you people from? You're not from around here. Are you… from the surface?"

Kamina was always going on about the surface, but he never had proof. Simon believed him, but nobody else did.

"We're from the surface, in a sense. We're explorers from another world, we traveled here through that." Daniel stepped forward, confident but in a different way than Kamina, while jabbing a hand at the circle. "We call it a Stargate, you might call it a 'ring of the gods' or 'chappa'ai' or something similar."

"Uh… no, we don't have those here. What do you mean, another world?" Things weren't adding up, what was going on?

"The lights in the sky are celestial bodies that exist in the wider cosmos. Most are stars like your world's sun, but several are planets like this one…" Carter trailed off, flashing a wince at the dumbfounded look Simon was showing. Stars? Sun? What was she talking about? It sounded ridiculous, but how else…

Nothing about them made sense!

"Perhaps we should confer with your leaders." Teal'c suggested, his voice sounding like a drum.

"Uh, yeah. Good idea." Simon nodded, sighing. He needed to find Kamina, maybe his bro knew something about these people. "The village is that way." He pointed at the tunnel he made.

All four of them stared blankly at the hole Simon made, large enough for him to crawl through relatively easily.

"Ah, kid? Simon. You don't happen to have a bigger drill around here, do you? No offense but those are a little… small…" Jack grimaced.

"They don't look structurally safe. At all." Carter likewise grimaced.

"Yeah that too." Jack nodded.

"Hang on, did you drill all this out by yourself?" Daniel raised a hand and frowned.

"Yeah…" Simon sighed, trudging to the tunnel entrance and hefting his drill. He was sore, and they were so large…

"Are you sure kid? That is a lot of work for one person." Jack was frowning too.

"Acquiring aid would be wise. There is no dishonor in requesting assistance for those in need." Teal'c rumbled.

"Don't worry about it." Simon spared a glance at the busted drill head, it should be good for the task but he had to see about repairing it. "I've been digging tunnels for years. I've only had a couple collapses." He started cranking, chewing up rock as he bored a larger hole for them. He wasn't making it that large, they would still have to crawl the rest of the way.

Seeing how three of them did double takes, and hearing Daniel mutter, "Miss child labor laws…" he bristled, halting his digging.

"I'm the best digger in the village. You won't find someone better suited to helping you out here." With a huff he went back to it, tearing apart a sizable boulder that was in the way.

AN:
So, at long last. I am combining my favorite TV-show with my second favorite anime. Expect drama, explosions, the utter violation of all logic, ludicriously sized drills and mechs and Jack's snark, for the universe is not ready for the team up of SG-1, the god slayers and team Dai-Gurren, those who will pierce the heavens!

God, this will be fun.
