A/N Angel wanted some human experiences when he was a vampire with a soul, but he had no real idea what being human entailed. Liam barely existed himself, he just lurched from drink to drink, woman to woman and that's according to the history created in canon for him.
On the Angel show he accidentally became human and Buffy was happy. The two went patrolling like they sometimes did before and Angel got his butt handed to him. He went straight to the Oracles and asked 'what happens to Buffy if I stay human?' They answered 'She is mortal, she will live and she will die.' Angel decided that meant he had to be a vampire to keep her safe, even though they lived in different cities and never fought the same enemies. He used her mortality as an excuse because one experience as a human didn't go the way he'd been used to it going. In time, if he'd been willing to take the time, he'd have gotten used to it, but he wasn't willing to take the time.
Now he has no choice but to take the time and his human memories are two and half centuries out of date, he's going to have...issues before he gets there. I won't drag it out too much, just give a few examples of his struggles. 😉
In one of my stories Harmony accidentally started a rumor that Xander had inherited a lot of money from an uncle and there were expectations to him having and keeping the money. Now he really does have money, along with expectations. 😝

Xander and Cordelia's meeting with her father went well and Charles Chase was secretly pleased at his daughter's willingness to help a classmate navigate a new situation. He'd never been fond of the Queen C persona she'd adopted and liked how relaxed and non judgemental she was being with Alexander Harris. It hadn't taken long for him to confirm Alexander was now legally emancipated and listed as the legal owner of some property outside Sunnydale. Seeing no need to investigate further he'd agreed to meet with the young man and see the watch collection he wanted to sell.
"Any reason why you don't want to keep them?" Charles asked.
"Besides the fact that I only need one watch? It's not my kind of collectable. I collect things I can display, not things that have to be kept in a safe. I don't think my uncle ever wore them either, just 'oooh shiney' impulse buying and into the safe. In fact a lot of what he left me isn't to my taste and I'll probably sell most of it. But that's okay, I'd rather someone enjoyed it, than it collect dust."
"True and I will wear these beauties." Charles told him, waving a hand at the watches in the case. "Because I see no need to own something I'm not going to use. I think we've made a fair exchange here and if there's something else of your Uncle's you decide you don't want to keep, please let me know, I may be willing to buy it as well."
"Like the Steinway baby grand piano or the Lamborghini? I may keep the Jaguar, but not drive it in Sunnydale. It's just so pretty." Xander grinned, he couldn't help it and Charles laughed.
"I'd have to agree with you on that. Maybe twenty years ago I'd have been interested in the Lamborghini, but not today. Cordelia tells me you're going to follow in your Uncle's footsteps and be a fundraiser?"
"I guess you could call it an expectation. The inheritance comes with responsibilities and I intend to live up to them. Being a fundraiser for charities is a worthwhile career, it means helping people and making a difference. I had no idea where my life was going and now I have a path and it's a good one. I just hope I don't let anyone down."
"I've been running the family business for years and there were expectations for me as well." Charles admitted. "When I was a teenager I questioned those expectations, but I grew to enjoy the work. In time, when you see the results of your hard work, you will too. But I'd keep the Steinway, it will come in handy for the parties you'll have to throw to raise the actual money."
"You might be right, Cordelia pointed out I'd lose money selling it. It'll be a few years before I actually start doing the actual work, I have to finish High School and now I can afford college. Some business classes and God help me, economic classes might be in order."
"They certainly won't hurt." Charles agreed.
"They might," Xander joked. "Math is the only subject I need help in."
"You might be better at hands on, practical, than theory. Learning as you do the work, rather than responding to someone telling you how to do it. An internship with Chase Holdings might help you get your feet under you." Charles suggested. "Tell you what, next summer, if you're interested, we can look at the options together. Internships are about experience, which is extremely valuable in the long run, but doesn't pay a whole lot monitarily." Charles warned.
"Money's no longer a problem for me thanks to my Uncle." Xander assured him. "And I need to learn how to do the job, if you're willing to help me learn, than I'm willing to learn."
Cordelia beamed approvingly at him and Xander marveled at how much his life had changed in less then a day and prayed he could keep up with it all, because letting people down was one of his biggest fears.
