Title: Redo Repo

Summary: A couple of ideas revolving around characters getting a redo.

Title: Marie's New Game

Summary: Would you like to overwrite your save?

"Aniki!" I yelled before launching myself at the familiar figure.

"Japanese? Eh, who?" the boy responded in our native tongue out of shock.

"You fucking moron! You Game Over-ed?!"

"It wasn't my fault! How was I supposed to know that light magic wouldn't be enough?! The stupid relics even approved of me!"

"Yeah, but you still destabilized the Kingdom enough that Fanoss decided to invade in year one!"

"How was I supposed to know that could happen?!"

"How about the fact that the honor duel happened in the first semester!"

"... To be fair, it was a petty school squabble. It really shouldn't have ballooned out into an all out war," I said weakly.

"You don't even believe that."

"In any case, it doesn't even matter now. I'm back, and I have my curves back," I said as I grasped my glorious boobs. No longer would I be mistaken for a child. I had taken Luxion's information from my previous life and became far more developed. Best part was that I still had light magic at my disposal.

"... Haaa, as long as you learned your lesson."

"Not to rain on your parade, but this new information brings up rather concerning questions regarding the nature and value of existence," a small mechanical orb said.

"And that is?" I asked out of curiosity.

"Are timelines destroyed with every reset?"

"Huh?" Leon and I both asked.

"After all, if we are under the presumption that we are following the plot of a game, does it not necessarily imply we follow game design logic? If you start a new game, does that mean that the previous timeline or save is overwritten or deleted?"

Leon and I looked at each other in horror.

"There was only ever one save slot," we both stated in horror. How many universes have we destroyed playing games? Also, how doomed were we?

"Additionally, if we following the logic that timelines can be destroyed in order to play a new game, does this not also suggest that every action is meaningless in the grand scheme of things since it is neither unique and can be destroyed by the complete whimsy of one player?"

"Luxion, stop! I don't want to question the value of my existence!" Leon yelled in a desperate bid to stop us from falling further down the rabbit hole.

"Yeah, let's just focus on making sure Olivia doesn't screw up her romance," I emphatically added.

"I suppose that is wise considering we have no idea if Olivia failing the win condition would send her to the new game and leave you two in a dying timeline or if all existence would simply cease to exist simply because a reincarnator was not the one to fail the game," Luxion said monotonously. He was clearly enjoying our suffering.

"So, you've decided to stake your claim on my brother," a girl asked me. She looked oddly familiar, but I could not place a name on her. The only thing I could assume was that she was Leon's brother since he was the only boy I had sought out.

That being said. "Ew, gross." Incest was not wincest.

"Hey, that's my brother you're dissing. Not like you have any ground to stand on. The Lafan family is in rather substantial debt."

"So what? Is this you warning me away from Leon?"

"This is me telling you not to involve yourself with Leon. Considering you seem to care about him, you should avoid dragging him into your mess. Better yet, you should stay away from him. You're scarying away any suitable marriage partners," the girl said abrasively before strutting away.

Huh, Leon was shit in understanding women. Where was the shitty sister he told me about. Delivery aside, this girl was looking out for him. Not that Leon would even appreciate it even if he knew. He'd probably claim she was just protecting her allowance.

"Why aren't the guys here flocking to me?! I may be poor, but I have a good personality, and I have a sexy bod! Boys should be lining up to even talk to me!" I wailed in despair at my brother's tea party.

Leon snorted when he had heard me discuss my personality. I graciously flipped him the bird for that.

He gave me a flat and dead look. "Because everyone is under the misunderstanding that we've hooked up already."

"Ack, gross. We're siblings."

"In case you've forgotten, we're not blood related anymore. To everyone else, we're a suitable match."

"Damm it, Bro. How is it that you're cockblocking me in every life?!"

"Hey, that's my line!"

"Bullshit! In my last life you were definitely shacking up with both the protagonist and villainess!"

"I still say bullshit to that. Plus, I've only experienced two lives, and it's two for two for you getting in my way!"

"Yeah right! You had no game in the last run! Greg even roasted you publicly for getting no pussy! You should be thanking me! You literally got hitched with the two top girls because of me!"

"Too bad that lead to the end of the world! No lay can be worth that!"

"Well then, you have no reason to be bitter since Olivia is having a train run on her with the five! Crisis averted!"

"Oy, are you trying to make me sound like a cuck?!"

"Trying?! Aren't you by letting your woman get railed by five guys?"

"Agh, she's not my woman!"

As we stood before the floating form of the possessed Saintess, Leon gave me a look.

"For the record, I blame you for this."

"How's this my fault?! I literally did the exact opposite from last time!"

Title: Cycle of Death and Reload

Summary: Everything comes full circle.

Leon

I walked out of my hiding spot and towards the drone. It raised its weapon and a menacing whirl reached my ears.

"Intruder, identify yourself."

"Hello, my name is Leon Fou Bartfort. You can say I'm an old friend," I said in Japanese.

The whirring noise stopped.

"Japanese? Fascinating. The language should have died out by now. Not only that, but the name is distinctly western in origin. What is the meaning of this?"

"It's a long story. A really long story, but know that Old Humanity is in danger."

The door to the delapidated compound opened.

Yumeria

I stared at the human who exited the ruins. He was followed by several orbs. Several of our wisest were bound.

It had been a hectic few hours. The boys had appeared and marched into the ruins without a how do you do. This had riled up the men who were now bound.

I feared for what was to come.

The boy walked towards me. I cowered as I wondered what he would do to me. After a few moments, he stood before me. He then pulled something out of his pocket. I cringed and closed my eyes.

"Yumeria," the boy called out gently. I heard a metallic clinking sound.

Opening my eyes, I saw a sack was being offered to me. From the opening, I could see several platinum coins catching some light. Looking up, I saw the boy had a gentle, though desperate, look. He looked like a man desperately looking for a lifeline.

I gingerly accepted the bag.

"Master?" I hesitantly asked.

"Leon's just fine."

"Master Leon?"

"Heh, good enough," he said with a tired smile. Whatever he was looking for, I think he found it.

Angelica

I stood by the entrance of the Academy. We were waiting for a VIP. A new adventurer of renown. A boy who had made a name for himself before becoming of Academy age, and furthered his legend ever since.

It was a shame he had opted to skip the Academy, but clearly, it wasn't in his best interest to attend. After all, his attendance would have prevented him from accruing the wealth and lands necessary to rise to a count status. A meteoric rise.

A concerning rise as well. Mylene had impressed upon me the need to ensure we held good relations with the boy. His rapid accumulation of military assets in the form of Lost Items came with the risk of secession.

Perhaps it was for the best he had not attended the school. He would have entered as a baron based on his promotion history. I was not blind to how the girls of similar rank could alienate a boy like him.

I saw a figure accompanied with what looked to be a female elf. I resisted frowning. It was not proper for a noble to have such a servant under his employ, but certain indiscretions could he ignored for him.

"Angi... Angelica," he said with an oddly sad expression.

Taking a cue from his oddly informal address, I said, "Leon, let me be the first to welcome you to Holfort Academy... Is everything okay?"

The boy was staring at me. It was... unsettling. It was as if he was looking at something dear to him. Something he had lost.

"It's nothing. Just, nostalgia, I guess."

Like I thought, he must have lost someone dear to him. I could leverage this. Mylene probably knew and had specifically selected me to meet Leon. It left a sour taste in my mouth, but ensuring his loyalty was for the best.

I placed a hand on his shoulder, which elicited a look of surprise.

"Do you want to talk about it, Leon?"

"... No. I appreciate the gesture, but it's not something that can be fixed," he said almost bitterly. Had my gesture pushed him away? Some men did not like being pitied. It was something to remember.

"... I see. I apologize for touching a sensitive subject."

"Don't be. I do appreciate the gesture, but... Yeah, I'd like to keep my mind off of it if possible."

"Then, what would you like to talk about?"

He gave me a grateful smile. "How about the reason why I'm here?"

"I've only been told your were planning on delving into the dungeon. A tad odd for an adventurer of your level."

He chuckled. "Yes, I suppose the capital's dungeon would be considered too lowly compared to some of the outer dungeons. Care to take a guess why I would find particular interest in this one?"

"I would hazard to guess that you heard tale of a particularly worthwhile artifact?"

"Quite a good guess," he playfully chuckled. He, however, did not elaborate. It must be quite the find if he kept the details close to his chest.

After a few moments, he did not appear to change his mind regarding what information he would volunteer. I decided to continue the conversation. "We have prepared a suite for your use for the remainder of the semester. You are also welcome to attend the first year's end of semester banquet."

"Ah, is that the staff's way of trying to lure me in?"

"Merely the due respect you are owed."

"I'd much rather good tea and company."

"Perhaps a talk with Professor Lucas. He's the etiquette teacher here and was once a famous scholar."

"Yes, that would be lovely."

Why did he seem so happy?

I saw red when I saw the harlot cavorting with all five of the boys. If it weren't bad enough that she had drawn His Highness's favor, she had the gall to treat his love as merely a piece in a collection. How shameful of a woman she must be to so callously handle Julius's heart the way she is.

"Calm yourself, Angelica," Leon whispered behind me.

I rounded on the boy.

"You expect me to just wait on the sidelines as that harlot makes a mockery of the crown prince?!" I hissed.

"No, but I'll handle it."

"Huh?"

Before I could ask for the details, he walked towards Marie, which caught the attention of the girl and Julius. Leon then pulled out a letter and handed it to her. After a few moments to tear open and read the letter, she looked at Leon.

By then, Leon was already walking away. Marie excused herself from Julius and chased after Leon. Julius had a devastated look. At the very least, it looked as though Marie had chosen Leon.

While I should be elated, I couldn't revel in the change. I hadn't won the prince. He had simply lost to Leon. What's more, Marie had hooked another boy of repute. Or was it that my new friend had taken on Marie for my sake. I wasn't too sure. All I knew was that it felt wrong.

Olivia

I found myself on Mister Leon's ship. He was an interesting noble. Unlike every other noble I had met, he had treated me like an equal. I wasn't the unwanted commoner stain in his eyes, but I also wasn't just Olivia.

I was a shadow of someone important to him. I could tell he restrained himself around me. He missed someone dearly, but I was not her. Just a phantom reminder of what he lost.

It was still better than the life I was living in the Academy. Funnily enough, Leon's airship also proved to be a far better learning environment compared to the school. Aside from the lack of bullying and harassment, I was no linger bound to learning subjects unrelated to anything I would ever have to concern myself with such as land management. I could focus purely on magic and history. Additionally, the collection of tomes and Lost history on Leon's ship dwarfed what was available in the Academy's library.

The only responsibility I had was to ask to be entertained by Leon's tea parties. Yes, I was to be entertained instead of entertaining Mister Leon. It was a role Yumeria asked of me. I think Mister Leon was a terribly lonely individual for his assistant to assign me such a role without his knowledge.

It was the least I could do for my new benefactor even though it made me feel somewhat like a replacement. It was still better than being seen as nothing more than a pet.

AN

1) A couple of ideas where the reincarnators get another shot after the main canon hits a bad ending scenario. Marie's is when she fails as the Saintess during the invasion. Leon's is from the final battle.

2) I was planning on doing Leila's as well, but no one likes Leila. But in all seriousness, these two ideas were decently long as is and Leila's was certain to be much longer. Perhaps a dedicated chapter for her since I don't think she's been really explored in the fandom.

3) Marie's is much more lighthearted mainly because Marie is such a screwup that it just ends up being funny in a Aqua from Konosuba kind of way. Leon's is a lot more morose mainly because all his loved ones have been factory reset, and in an effort to save them all within the limited timeframe, he has to forego the majority of interactions he has with the cast. A lonely endeavor.

Review Response

lupus23: They actually canonically do mention tying Leon to the kingdom as something of a concern for the Kingdom. While not necessarily in regards to promotions, they have tried to get him hitched with Erica (which in effect would tie him to the Royal family).

dawnwatch: Take your time. I get how difficult it is to write anything.

reality deviant: Obviously Angelica falls into Nicks orbit as Leon leaves her in the tender care of his brother as he goes to infiltrate the Principality to steal the flute in order to avoid immortal monster gods running around, which inevitably results in him kidnapping both of the sisters. Nicks has a mental breakdown trying to figure out if Leon is really that desperate to get demoted or if he's doing a 6D chess move to get so far ahead in rank that he doesn't have to court the lower noble girls.

partner555: Not at the moment. While I could eventually come up with a plot that focuses on that pairing, I wouldn't hold my breath. He's not a particularly interesting side character and efforts to make him interesting have a high chance of just coming off as an OC.

ZEDNEMwashere: Man, the first one was literally the good ending of canon. Blame the creator for writing that scenario.
