(A/N) Remember guys, I gave you the poll, I let you all decide. When the time comes please don't begin some warpath with the decision regarding the relationship because I am seeing that the reviews are divided with who they want.
This is why I kept the poll closed and took it down when the story was first uploaded. I have an idea of what you guys want and will be going off of the poll answer. I also get many of you are new and probably didn't get the chance to vote and I am sorry for that. But this is what I am going off of. I am telling you this now because I am going to start the characters developing their feelings further. You can express your opinion, but remember I am going off of what was asked the most in the poll because I didn't really care this time and could have gone with anyone.
Just remember that this is all a work of fiction and Have fun!
It took a lot of planning. It took a lot of work, but finally, they managed to make a raft out of various tree branches and materials from across the entire island. They got a couple of days' worth of food that should be enough to get them to the Mainland. They then used Peter's strength to push their raft into the seas and made sure they had everything tied down. With the wind in their sail, they began to leave the island of terror and madness behind.
"It's actually happening," Peter said as he looked off to the island that caused so much chaos. "We are finally going home."
"Home," Laura said with her own mouth. "Home..."
Peter nodded as he took her hand as they looked back to the island. Laura only knew the island her whole life. She was going to get her first taste of the Main Land when they finally got back.
"Hey," Peter got her attention and tried to soothe her. "I will be here for you."
Laura nodded as everyone got their last look at the island that they were stranded on.
"Goodbye, Jurassic World," Darius said with a sigh.
Bumpy came into sight as she ran as far as she could up to the shore bellowing.
"Goodbye, Bumpy," Ben said with sorrow.
Kenji began laughing. "See ya never, stupid Dino Island!" He cheered out with relief. "You thought you could eat us? No way! You thought you could stomp on us? Think again!"
"Yeah!" Sammy got in on the fun. "You thought you could crush our spirits? Impossible! Yeah!"
"To be fair, the island did crush my spirit." Ben reminded them. "But then I defeated Toro..."
"Oh, my god!" Peter groaned when he heard him bring that up.
"Not again." Yaz moaned.
"Bring it up again, Ben, and I might claw your tongue," Laura stated with a snarl.
"Laura, we talked about threatening our friends," Peter reminded her.
"Only do it when they are being obnoxious?" Laura asks.
Peter considered how to answer that one. "Well, the only one I could see being harmed by that is Kenji, so yes."
"Hey!" Kenji called out.
"Well, Bumpy likes it when I tell it," Ben said.
That was when the raft began to shake, getting them confused as they looked and saw a huge wave heading towards them.
"Um, guys?" Brooklynn called, getting them all to see the wave. "Everyone, secure the vines!"
"How?" Yaz asks.
"I don't know. Pull on them?" Brooklynn asked as she did just that.
"You said you had raft experience!" Yaz cried as she did as she said.
"I said some raft experience. Some!" Brooklynn corrected her.
"Oh! So only some of us will die." Yaz said sarcastically.
That was when the wave came towering over them, getting them all to brace for the wave that consumed their entire raft. They ended up beginning to swim their way to shore while Peter had to act quickly as Laura was sinking. Her Adamantium skeleton was making things difficult to swim, and also the fact is that she never really learned to swim so Peter had to carry her to shore with his strength.
They returned to shore and everyone took a moment to get their breath in and began to make their way back to camp. They were all soaked and annoyed that their raft which took so long to make was destroyed at the first obstacle.
"Bumpy? Bumpy, we're back!" Ben called out for their dinosaur. "Bumpy?" That was when the ankylosaurus in question came charging out of the trees and tackled Ben. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Missed you, too."
"Circle up, guys! Camp meeting!" Darius called as they reached camp.
"Huh. Another one?" Kenji asked as he then climbed up the slide.
"Don't worry. I'll be right back." Ben said to Bumpy and joined everyone.
"Okay, on the plus side, still no sign of Compies around camp, or any Cross-Species, and no sign of Kraven, so that's good," Darius recalled.
"On the minus side, raft escape attempt number one was... how shall one say?" Peter asked sarcastically.
"Wet."
"Bad?"
"Didn't work."
"Annoying."
"It wasn't a total disaster," Darius said.
"Um, we lost the raft and almost drowned. How is that not a disaster?" Sammy asks.
"We didn't get eaten by dinosaurs?" Darius said.
"I hate that I live in a world where that is a plus," Peter said with a sigh.
"Darius, we're out of options," Brooklynn said as she approached the board and scratched the plans they had. "We tried kayaks, gyrospheres, and more gyrospheres. Yaz's bad, "find a helicopter and learn to fly it ourselves," plan.
"Oh, and what about Brooklynn's worse "Let's go back into the tunnels and look for a phone" idea?" Yaz asked as she walked over and scratched that idea off the board.
Yaz then gave Brooklynn a bit of a stern look which Brooklynn matched. Yeah, something has also been going on with the two of them ever since the incident back when Kraven kidnapped Peter and Yaz. Ever since the group met back up, it was like the two of them were at each other's throats every chance they could.
"There has to be something that we haven't tried," Laura said as she messed with her claws.
"Just gonna pitch it one more time..." Kenji said.
"We're not building a human catapult," Yaz tells him.
"How do we know it can't be done if we never tried?" Kenji asks.
"I'd be willing to go with that idea," Peter offered as he gave Kenji a grin. "Only if he is the first one we try it out on."
"I second that," Laura agreed.
"I think your idea sounds fun at least," Sammy said.
"Thanks, Sammy," Kenji said. "And I always appreciate your optimism."
"Aw, thanks, Kenji!" Sammy replied.
Peter was confused as he looked at Laura. "What was that?"
"I don't know, but it would be really great... if it didn't happen again," Laura stated.
"I hear you, but I still think a boat is the way to go," Darius said. "All we need is a better sail."
"And maybe stronger wood," Peter said.
"Not to be a downer, but it took us weeks to find enough usable fabric for the last one," Yaz stated.
"And even if we do find a sail, what's gonna save us from another killer wave?" Brooklynn asks.
"There's gotta be a fix. Every problem always has a fix." Darius said, looking towards Ben who looked off towards Bumpy. "Ben, what do you think? Ben? Ben!"
"Yo, jungle boy!" Kenji called out.
"Huh?" Ben finally was listening.
"What do you think?" Kenji asks.
"Uh yeah, what you said," Kenji said.
"Really?" Peter asked sarcastically. "You think a human catapult is the best idea?"
"Oh! No. That's ridiculous." Ben scoffed. "Darius is right, a raft is the way to go."
"Thank you!" Darius said.
"Fine." Brooklynn sighed. "Since there are no other options, raft it is."
"Awesome!" Darius said. "So, where can we scavenge a sail that we haven't already looked?"
"It's a shame we can't just go up to Lookout Point and hang glide all the way to Costa Rica," Kenji said, getting their attention. "That would be so dope."
"What's Lookout Point?" Peter asks.
"It's up in the mountains to the west," Kenji explained. "It's like a whole deal. They've got hang gliders and everything. I used to go there all the time."
"Hang gliders!" Darius said. "As in materials that are literally designed to catch the wind?"
Everyone laughed and cheered when they heard that, aside from Laura and Kenji.
"Hey! We could use that as a sail!" Kenji finally caught on.
"Good idea, Kenji!" Darius said sarcastically.
Kenji then led them as they made their way through the jungle, avoiding the Cross-Species, dinosaurs, and Kraven as best as possible. They were brought to what looked like to be a transport to the top of the mountain.
"Welcome to Lookout Point!" Kenji said. "Well, to be fair, Lookout Point is up there, but you get the gist."
"So, how do we get up there?" Peter asked him.
"The sky gondola, usually," Kenji said, gesturing to the device. "But with the power out, you'll have to go on foot. It shouldn't be too bad. Probs just a one-to-five-day trek."
Yaz scoffed as she stepped forward stretching. "That'll take me an hour."
"Great!" Brooklynn called from the controls. "I'll wait for you at the top."
Brooklynn then pushed a button revealing that the device wasn't controlled by power but rather by solar panels.
"Solar panels. Sky gondola." Kenji said.
"Nice find, B," Peter said as he walked up to her.
"Thanks," Brooklynn said as she sheepishly moved some hair out of the way.
"Last one there's the last one there!" Kenji called as he raced ahead.
"I call shotgun!" Sammy called as she ran ahead.
One of the pods opened and Sammy and Kenji climbed into one of them, with Laura slowly following after them and entering their pod. The doors closed just before the others could get on. Ben was staying a bit further back with Bumpy, and Darius was slowly approaching.
Brooklynn, Peter, and Yaz walked up to one of the pods as Peter didn't like the stern look both of the girls were giving the other. "Come on, Pete, you wanna ride with me?" Yaz asks.
"I think he would rather ride with me," Brooklynn said as she said so in a stern tone.
"Oh, and what makes you think that?" Yaz asks in a similar stern tone.
"Girls," Peter stopped them from arguing again. "You do know that the pods can carry up to like six people, right?" He said, gesturing to the limit sign on the post. "We can just ride together."
That got them all looking at one another, seemingly trying to figure out a way not to ride together. When one of the pods opened, they were looking at one another wondering what to do.
"After you," Yaz said.
"No, no, no. Really, after you." Brooklynn said.
"Thanks," Yaz said as she got on the pod, followed by Brooklynn and last with Peter.
"Guess it's you and me, Ben," Darius said as he watched the others leave.
"Actually, you go ahead without me," Ben said. "I'm gonna stay behind with Bumpy."
"Uh, are you sure?" Darius asks.
"Go ahead. I'm fine." Ben said as he walked off.
"Kenji? You guys get the hang glider without me." Darius said using the radio. "I think something's bothering Ben."
"What?" Kenji asked as he heard Sammy laugh.
"I think something's bothering Ben!" Darius said.
"What?"
"We've got this," Peter interrupted, having his own radio. "Go sort out Ben. But if you find a Cross-Species-"
"We'll scream, and hope you can find us," Darius said as a joke as he ran to Ben.
"Oh, I thought you were going up," Ben said.
"Nah, they got it covered," Darius said.
Kenji and Sammy were screaming as they were shaking the pod. Laura was sitting and watching them shake the pod around, not sure about why they were enjoying this.
"Come on, Laura, have some fun!" Sammy tells her.
"Fun?" Laura asks.
"Come on, have you never had any fun?" Kenji asked as they stopped shaking the pod.
Laura shrugged.
"What did you use to do?" Sammy wondered as she sat next to Laura. "Before you met us."
"I was surviving," Laura stated with sorrow. "Before that, I was kept caged like an animal. Only released so that I could be used to train and taught to use my skills to kill..."
Sammy was sorry to hear that as she engulfed Laura in another hug. Laura wasn't exactly pleased with the hug but shrugged and liked how comforting the feeling was. Laura liked the feeling and Sammy tried to turn the situation less dire.
"Kenji, I gotta say, you're one of my favorite people to hang out with," Sammy said to Kenji.
"Uh. thank you." Kenji said.
"Right up there with Yaz, Brooklynn, Peter, Darius, Ben, and Laura." Sammy listed everyone.
"So... top ten?" Kenji asks.
"Uh-huh!" Sammy said.
"Sweet!" Kenji said as they both laughed.
"Come on, Laura!" Sammy cried.
Sammy playfully tugged Laura up, a bright sparkle of mischief in his eyes as he prepared to introduce her to the exhilarating thrill of swinging the pod. With each gentle push, he encouraged her to let go of her fears, all while eliciting delightful giggles as she wobbled precariously on her feet. Laura started to grasp the humor behind their antics, and a grin spread across her face as she joined in the fun, shaking the pod as it swung from side to side. Kenji rallied beside them, pushing with gusto, and soon their laughter echoed through the air, a joyous symphony that wrapped around them like a warm embrace.
Although Laura's past was marked by shadows and painful memories, in this moment, surrounded by her new friends, it was clear that they were a bright light contrasting everything that had come before. They felt like family, a refreshing change from those who had only sought to manipulate her.
In stark contrast, on the other pod sat Brooklynn, Yaz, and Peter, who fidgeted anxiously in each other's presence. A palpable tension hung in the air as Peter tried to decipher the odd vibe between the two girls. He wasn't sure what was up with the two of them who started this strange battle to hang out with him more than the other. Okay, he had a slight idea about it but he didn't believe that these two girls developed feelings for him.
The notion that Brooklynn and Yaz could harbor feelings for him seemed utterly ludicrous, an idea so far-fetched that it tugged at the corners of his mind. He shook his head slightly, brushing aside the ridiculous thought, but deep down, he couldn't shake the flicker of curiosity that lingered in the back of his mind.
"So, what do you like to do for fun back home?" Brooklynn asks.
"I don't have a lot of time for fun," Yaz admitted. "I'm always competing or training."
"Right, right. Totally relate." Brooklynn said.
"Oh, you know what it's like to spend five hours in the gym every day?" Yaz asks.
"I wish my job only took five hours a day!" Brooklynn stated.
"Yeah, I'm sure it's really hard to get paid to go to cool places and record videos on your smartphone," Yaz said sarcastically.
"As a matter of fact, it is," Brooklynn stated. "Ever tried to hold your phone steady while climbing a glacier?"
"No! I was too busy running four-and-a-half-minute miles." Yaz stated.
"You should try it sometime. It's especially fun when you're trying to appease sponsors and-"
"Been there."
"Sacrificing a normal childhood just to maintain good numbers."
"Yep. Same here." Yaz said.
"Wow! We just have so much in common." Brooklynn said with a slight sarcasm.
"Come on, guys," Peter tried to get them to calm down. "I bet we can get some common interest. Like, Yaz, you like to draw."
Yaz was surprised to hear that. "Wait, who told?"
"Sammy did," Peter admitted. "Also, you left your sketchpad near my dad's formula book and I happened to take a look."
"Oh," Yaz said with a blush. "And... what did you think?"
"Oh, I thought it was great," Peter said. "Your attention to detail is impressive. And Brooklynn can relate to that."
"What?" Brooklynn asks.
"Come on, looking into details for your stories in your videos?" Peter stated. "I mean, your drawings, and her stories, team up, the two of you could be an unstoppable team."
"Yeah, I don't see that working out," Yaz said as she crossed her arms, looking out the window.
Peter sighed as he leaned against the window and knew that this was going to take some work to get them to talk to him. But as he was thinking, he noticed something in the distance, getting him to try and squint and see something with wings that he guessed had to do with the pterodactyls. He shook his head and saw that the creature was gone like it was made up in his head.
They then finally reached the top where they saw that Laura was hanging out with Sammy near the ledge looking over the entire island. "I have never seen the island like this before."
"Pretty cool, right?" Kenji asks.
"Sure, we'll get the hang gliders," Yaz said sarcastically. "You two can just keep looking at things."
"Sounds good!" Kenji said, doing just that.
"Yaz, why don't you stay here?" Brooklynn asked as she approached the hang gliders. "I unboxed hang gliding in Mozambique, so it's probably best for me, the expert, and Peter to handle the hang glider."
"That's okay," Yaz said as she walked past them. "Those hang gliders look pretty big, so it's probably best for me, the athlete, to do the heavy lifting."
Peter was watching as they gave each other a look as they walked over to the gliders. "Did they forget that I can just carry them?"
"No, really. Please, I insist."
"No, no, no. I insist."
"Yep, they forgot," Peter sighed as he followed.
"You know, once you get past the "imminent death lurking around every corner" thing, this place really is paradise," Sammy said.
Laura looked out to the island with a shrug. "I guess."
"Oh, come on!" Sammy said as she bumped into Laura. "Look at all of this and tell me that this isn't nice."
Laura stood at the edge of the rocky outcrop, her gaze fixed on the distant island that loomed against the horizon like a dark shadow. The vivid colors of the sunset painted the sky in brilliant hues of orange and pink, but they did little to lift the weight in her heart. She strained to absorb Sammy's words, though they felt heavy and distant, overshadowed by the haunting memories that flashed through her mind.
The island, with its dense foliage and jagged cliffs, the robots, and dinosaurs, had always been a place of danger for her—a stark reminder of the experiments that had shaped her existence. Each recollection sent shivers down her spine: the sterile rooms filled with cold metal instruments, the relentless probing of her mind and body, all in the name of science.
With a deep breath, Laura forced herself to focus on the beauty surrounding her—the gentle sway of the palm trees in the evening breeze, the soft crashing of waves against the shore, and the distant call of seabirds silhouetted against the fading light. She tried to savor the moment, to appreciate the scenery without letting the looming specter of danger consume her thoughts. But deep inside, the island's menacing allure tugged at her, reminding her of the turbulent past she couldn't easily escape. But being here, alongside people like them, she began to see the light side of the world that she never saw before.
Brooklynn and Yaz approached the hang gliders to discover that there was a lock on them. Yaz groaned when she saw it was going to be difficult.
"Relax," Brooklynn said as she took a hairpin and began to pick the lock. "I can totally pick that lock."
"That'll take forever," Yaz said as she walked off. "All I need is a rock."
"All I need is a rock," Brooklynn said in a sarcastic tone.
Peter then walked over and wondered if he should interfere, but shrugged. He decided to let them fight over the one glider and ripped one of them free of the lock. It's ironic how that was the first time he realized he had powers was when he broke a lock, and here he was doing it again to save their lives.
"Where is a good one? Ah." Yaz said when she gasped.
"Oh, wow, I can see everything trees, trees, more trees, jungle, beach..." Sammy said, looking through the binoculars. Then she gasped when she saw something. Laura, Kenji, look at this, quick!" She then showed them what was in the distance: the yacht that the Hunters came on. "There! See?"
Brooklynn broke the chain free and laughed. "So much for taking forever. " She then looked over and saw Peter had most of the others already unlocked. "Oh..."
"Yeah, in hindsight, I could just tear off the majority and carry it back," Peter shrugged. "Yaz? How's it going for a rock?"
That was when they saw that she was frozen in fear. "What's wrong?"
"These aren't rocks," Yaz revealed, holding what had to be a pteradon egg. "They're eggs."
"And where there are eggs, there are..."
Peter's senses went off, alerting him of something coming in. That was when he saw something closing in through the sun's light. What came next was something coming down fast and scooping Peter up in its talons before he could react.
"Peter!" Brooklynn and Yaz cried, watching as something horrifying took him away just as pteranodons came down and started to screech at them, getting them to run. "Back to the gondolas!"
It was another Cross-Species. This one had dark green feathers and his eyes were wide, turning completely red with black pupils. Its hair was green too, but a lighter shade, with feathers seeking out from its neck region to form a collar-like plumage ruffle. Its neck was elongated with notable striations. Its skin had a leath appearance, its nose morphed into a curved red-tipped beak, and it had small sharp teeth. Its hands were three-fingered, red-tippedons, and its feet were red-tipped talons with two in the front and one at the heel.
The creature screeches at Peter, giving him a view of what it was. "A Vulture!?" He then shot out two webs to blind the creature, yanking himself free of its talons and falling backward towards the ground. "This is gonna hurt!"
Peter used his webbing to shoot out several strands to create a net that he used to cushion his fall and roll off, reaching the others. The pteradons began to attack, causing Peter to have to defend his friends, shooting strands to keep their mouths shut in the process of the Vulture coming back for a second round.
"We gotta get out of here!" Peter cried, stumbling to stand as he ran his way towards the others.
"Nice, creepy bird thing," Kenji said in fear.
The pteradon shrieks and prepares to attack when Laura comes in, stabbing it from behind and tossing it aside, letting out a ferocious scream in anger. She then saw another one and prepared to attack when it began screeching.
"Why is it doing that?" Yaz asks.
Looking upward, they noticed they were slowly beginning to become surrounded by dozens of the pteradons. Peter looked down at the screeching pteradon and then back up to the swarm that was closing in.
"Oh, my god... it's calling for help." Peter whispered.
Laura screamed as she prepared to strike them. That was when Vulture came back down and Peter shot out two webs, only to watch as the Vulture let out a sonic screech that ruptured his webbing and disintegrated it instantly. Kenji and Sammy ran over toward the gondolas to escape. Brooklynn tried to reach them, but the pteranodons began to block off her approach, getting her to slowly back off.
Laura managed to hold off the pteradons so that Sammy and Kenji could get away on the gondolas. But Yaz and Brooklynn weren't so lucky as they backed away from the gondola and towards the ledge as they were getting boxed in. They looked up, wondering if Peter was going to be any help to them, but they saw he was busy fighting off the Cross-Species Vulture.
"Is there another way down?" Yaz asks.
That was when they looked over and eyed the hang gliders. "No other choice." Brooklynn guessed.
"Nope," Yaz said with a sigh.
"Right," Brooklynn said.
The two of them then ran over to the glider and quickly leaped off the ledge, beginning to glide their way off the mountain while being chased by the pteradons through the sky. Peter was also having problems as he came flying past them, slamming into the side of the mountain as he saw Vulture coming back around for another hit.
"Birds have sensitive sight, right?" Peter asked, trying to recall facts he knew about birds. "I knew I should have paid attention better in geology!" But he then shot out a web to latch onto a solar panel and yanked it off, bringing it up to him just as the Vulture came back with his talons raised to strike. "Let's see if I'm right!"
Moving the light of the sun off the solar panel, it sent a bright flash of light into Vulture's face, which caused him to become off-balanced and allowed Peter to leap out of the way and watch as Vulture rammed the side of the mountain, his talons stuck in the boulders in the mountain.
Peter then took the opportunity to wrap the Vulture up using his webbing and then spun and kicked the creature, sending it flying down the mountain. Peter then used it to dive down quicker and watched as it ripped through the webbing with a sonic screech. That's what Peter was counting on. The Vulture opened its wings and Peter kept it on course towards the girls on the glider.
He saw the pteradons were closing in and knew he needed to help. Leaping off the Vulture, he shot several webs to latch the pteradons to get their attention and then latched the webs onto the Vulture to cause a yank, sending all the flying creatures off balance and giving the girls a chance to escape. The Vulture then had to deal with the pteradons as they now changed their focus off of Peter and the girls and now onto the Vulture.
"Yeah!" Brooklynn cheered as Peter leaped over and grabbed onto the bar they were hanging onto from the glider. "Go, Spider-Man!"
"That was awesome!" Yaz cheered. "How did you know that would work?"
"Well, Vultures are not the kind of birds to play with others well," Peter shrugged. "Learned it on this nature documentary during a flight me and May went on."
"You really are amazing," Brooklynn complimented.
"Aw, thanks, gir-" Peter's senses went off again, alerting him of danger. "Watch out!"
As the chaos was settling, a pteranodon burst through the glider's canopy, tearing a gaping hole that destabilized their precarious flight. The sudden shift sent Peter's heart racing. He instinctively reached for the metal bar above him, gripping it tightly in his feet to secure his weight as the glider swayed dangerously. In one swift motion, he used his strength to punch the struggling pteranodon back, fighting against the wind and the wild thrumming of their descent.
Below, a dense thicket of trees loomed closer, their branches reaching up like skeletal fingers. Realizing they had to abandon the glider, Peter quickly turned to his friends. He gripped them tightly by the hips, feeling the urgency of the moment as they clung to his shoulders. With adrenaline surging through his veins, Peter propelled himself into the air, leaping as high as his strength would allow. He initiated a desperate move, releasing several strands of webbing that unfurled like a colossal spider's silk.
The web expanded beneath them, catching the wind and forming a soft, intricate net that broke their fall. As they plummeted toward the treetops, Peter felt a rush of hope that they might land safely amidst the chaos of the world above. Yaz and Brooklynn screamed as they felt the rush that Peter felt every time he used his peers and landed in the webbing, causing it to bounce up and down a little, before finally it stopped and allowed them to breathe.
"Whew!" Yaz cried. "That was awesome!"
"Yeah, but let's not make it a regular thing," Brooklynn begged with a bit of a tremble in her voice. "That was... oh, who am I kidding? That was so cool!"
Peter chuckled as he then dropped down off the web, holding his hands out to catch them as they fell. Brooklynn was the first to drop downward, Peter catching her in his arms, the two locking eyes for a second before blushing, and finally, Peter put her down. Yaz then came down, Peter caught her easily and he caught her more in a bridal position due to the impact of her fall. The two locked eyes and blushed as Peter put her down on her own two legs. That was when they saw Darius and Ben fighting the pteranodon they were attacked by Bumpy and scared it off.
"Wow!" Brooklynn said as she clapped her hands. "That was very impressive. I mean, not as impressive as me and Yaz literally flying away from danger, but..."
The two girls laughed at that as Peter walked over. "Still, good job, guys."
That was when Laura, Sammy, and Kenji returned and saw that everyone was okay.
"Oh, I love it when we're all alive!" Sammy cheered as she raced over to give individual hugs to everyone.
"Yeah! Take that, Dino Island!" Kenji cheered. "Whoo!"
Darius walked over to the tree and looked over the glider. "Yeah, it's a little torn, but we can fix it."
"And it's gonna be a perfect sail for our next boat," Peter said as he gave Darius a small side hug. "And we will be able to get the heck off this island."
"Boat!" Sammy cried as she gasped. "Boat!"
Kenji and Sammy laughed, getting odd looks from everyone but Laura.
"Uh... What are we talking about?" Ben asks.
"We saw Tiff and Mitch's boat," Laura said in a shrug. "It's on some rocks not far offshore from the east dock."
"We can totally get to it!" Sammy said, putting more excitement in her words than Laura did.
They ran towards the dock and saw that there was indeed the boat Mich and Tiff came on with Kraven. They looked off and saw that it was not moving and that it seemed to be stuck in the shoreline enough that it wasn't going to drift off.
"I can get to that boat easily," Peter offered. "One large leap, and a small swim-"
"I wouldn't," Darius said, noticing the setting sun. "We should wait for early morning. We don't know what dinosaurs are around here."
"Or why she hasn't left," Yaz said as she approached him with a nod. "We better all check it out together."
"Man, remember when we ran straight at that freaky, flying dinosaur?" Kenji asked Sammy.
"Nope! Already blocked it out!" Sammy said as she walked towards Laura. "So, did you get what I was saying?"
Laura considered her answer for her friend and shrugged. "I guess I did. Before we were attacked." She then sighed as she sat down, just feeling the grass touch her skin. "But I guess that is life. Take the good with the bad."
"There ya go!" Sammy cheered. "You're starting to get it!"
Peter chuckled when he watched the interaction. "Looks like Laura got herself a life coach in Sammy."
"Eh, there are worse choices," Brooklynn said from atop a rock. That was when she looked over towards Yaz and tried to put their differences aside. "So, tell me about track meetings. What are they like?"
Yaz laughed at her question. "Meetings? What, you think I run laps in a conference room?"
"Come on! Can I at least get a few points for trying?" Brooklynn asked.
Peter chuckled as he walked off and left them to talk alone. When he walked away, Brooklynn and Yaz gave each other a look. "So... how long?" Yaz wonders, feeling she would understand. "When did it happen for you?"
"Perfectly honest, I can't say," Brooklynn said as she rubbed her arm. "I guess it just sort of happened. Between the talks we had, that moment after his dad... and showing me I could be more than just a person who does videos, it just kept happening ever since. Small moments. How'd it happen for you?"
"Well, he was the only guy who actually understood why I wasn't willing to be more outgoing and taught me how to be more outgoing." Yaz listed the reasons. "Then there was the whole treating my wound and carrying me around for weeks with the whole broken leg thing. And encouraging me when I thought I was useless."
"So... where do we go from here?" Brooklynn wondered.
Yaz didn't really have an answer for her. "I don't know."
Peter then approached Laura as they looked out towards the boat. "So... we have a way off the island."
"Hopefully," Peter tells her and notices how she looks concerned. "You okay?"
"When we get off the island... what's going to happen to me?" Laura wonders.
Peter never really figured that out in much detail. "Well, nobody knows about you from the island, right?"
"As far as I know, everyone who knew about my existence was... eaten," Laura said. "All but one."
"Wu," Peter nodded. "I doubt he'd recognize that it's you after everything we've been through. All you need to do is keep your claws out of the public."
"Why?" Laura wonders.
"Mutants like us... we're not exactly welcome," Peter said with a sigh. He then reached out and grabbed her hand. "But we will have each other. Laura and Peter. Two of Richard Parker's craziest experiments."
"Only one of us is an actual experiment," Laura reminded him. Then she caressed his fingers and chuckled. "But I understand the sentiment."
