Chapter 2

Percy sighed, leaning back into the bed. He really didn't want to get up and away from the soft sheets. He wanted to just lay in bed for the rest of the day, but lying in bed would only lead to thinking about Annabeth-

He forced himself up off the bed.

Ozpin had given them a lot of money – nearly five thousand lien, to be exact. Common sense dictated that Percy haggle, and he did, getting a room and food at some random inn in Vale for only a hundred lien.

Maybe he had to become a heartbreaking bastard of a bitch to do it – after all, he'd flirted with the clerk a little bit – but it was worth. Usually, he would have used the Mist and scammed the clerk anyway, but there was no Mist here. Even the regular laws of magic metal didn't apply here; Riptide worked on mortals here, not that he had tried it yet. He had no family, no job to his name. He was an orphan with no connections other than a couple thousand lien for being a good Samaritan and an invitation to Beacon.

Five weeks had passed in the blink of an eye, and it was the day already. The day to go to college – well Beacon Academy, but college with fighting in a nutshell. He'd been heading out every day for his daily workout, and turning in only at night. He alternated between studiously reading in the library and training in the forest. His apparently 'massive' reserves of aura boosted his recovery speeds, and he was in the best shape of his life.

The change in him was palpable. Rather than fidgeting in his seat and fighting against the swarm of letters, he now absorbed information like a sponge absorbing water, having no problem paying vast amounts of attention to reading. He frequently stayed for hours in one spot, even cracking his stiff back when he finished reading and took a break.

The demigod headed out of the inn, deigning to leave the city as a whole. He wanted to get some training in, anyway.

He found a clearing in a small forest after hacking through some Grimm, namely beowolves. They weren't too challenging, like Lycaon's werewolves except infinitely weaker and were prone to everything, not just silver.

As for the subject of his aura… the guy who'd unlocked it said he had massive reserves of it.

Percy slashed his sword tentatively on his arm, knowing that the sea was close by if he needed any aid.

It should have caused a gash on his arm, and his arm felt it, although dampened by both his aura and his high pain tolerance, but there was no visible sign of harm on him.

It was akin to having a blunt force hit him instead of a sharp one that would actually do bodily damage.

If he had such a massive aura… then it was like he had the curse of Achilles all over again! Or the blessing of Styx. This one had a limit, however; albeit a high one, but at least he didn't have some kind of stupid weak spot he had to watch out for.

Apparently, aura also healed you faster, meaning he could work out and recover insanely fast with his reserves.

Now, his semblance.

Wards.

Epsilon was expel, which was what he had figured out, courtesy of Athena's blessing, but only partially.

He'd played around with writing different letters of the Greek alphabet, sketching them lightly in the air with his left index finger – after all, in fights he would usually be holding Anaklusmos in his right hand.

His hand had been shaky at first, but soon he grew confident with his strokes in the air, learning them quickly with the aid of the blessing.

Each letter represented a different type of more powerful ward that could attack, defend, among others. Every stroke he drew in the air was sea green like his aura. Two Greek characters made finer strokes, with more niche attacks like fire-based attacks rather than the simple expel ward of explosions.

Larger strokes yielded a larger area of impact, while smaller, finer strokes led to more precise targets. The strength of each attack depended on the amount of aura he expelled to sustain it.

With a flick of his wrist and a use of his mind, he could summon ward shields and ward swords – he still preferred his Riptide to them. It just felt better, and he didn't need to push his aura into it to use it.

Despite that, his semblance was certainly powerful. It was powerful enough that he didn't need to use his natural powers. Might as well keep those secret for now, he thought. It wouldn't be a good idea to get questioned by everyone at Beacon. In time, he would trust some with the secret.

He left the forest, having an internal feeling that he'd been late already, but it was only seven in the morning still. Percy made his way to the airship, flashing his scroll with the boarding pass. He was finally on his way to Beacon.

After a while, the ship finally docked at the cliffs of Beacon. Percy rushed by, eager to get off the ship and check out the famed huntsmen academy.

He walked by a poor kid vomiting painfully into a trashcan. Poor guy, must've been the motion sickness.

Beacon Academy genuinely looked like a castle. It had a medieval vibe to it, with a tall tower at the center surrounded by several smaller towers, bridges spanning across the gaps between them. Archways covered the courtyards, with lampposts everywhere. It was big enough to be a small city.

An explosion caught his attention.

Percy swiveled his head around to see two girls arguing, one of them dressed in complete white – white dress, white hair, everything.

The other one, dressed in red, seemed vaguely familiar… oh! Ruby!

The girl kept yelling at Ruby, "Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about! You complete dolt! Aren't you a little young to be in Beacon?"

"Hey, how about you tone it down a little."

Both girls whipped their heads to see him walking towards them. Their reactions were polar opposites.

Upon seeing him, Ruby cheered up instantly, "Hi Percy!"

The white-haired girl glared at him, "If you mean for her to 'tone it down a little', she air quoted, retorting hotly, "then sure!"

"Now, now, now, there's no need to get all worked up about a little accident. Let's start over. I'm Percy," he went for the peacemaker option, hoping the white-haired girl with a temper would call it quits.

She glanced at his hand hesitantly for a second, before accepting it, "Weiss, Weiss Schnee. Heiress of the SDC."

Ah, that made sense, at least the entitlement. Anyway, he wouldn't make too many judgements about her character just because she was an heiress.

"The SDC, one of the largest miners and producers of dust on Remnant."

A golden-eyed, black-haired girl stepped into the conversation.

"Finally! Some recognition," Weiss snarked at Ruby.

"The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners."

Weiss erupted in outrage, as Percy snorted in amusement and Ruby giggled at her plight.

She snatched a dust cylinder from the girl's hand and left with some servants picking up the baggage for her.

Ruby turned to talk with him and the black-haired girl, only to find that she'd walked off. Tch. Talk about anti-social. At least he had Ruby.

They walked towards the gates, conversing about what they'd done in the weeks they hadn't seen each other.

"Hey! Vomit boy! Get over here!"

The blonde kid who'd vomited on the ship turned towards them, walking rather quickly. He didn't have any friends, Percy noted. Well, it wasn't like he had any friends on Remnant other than Ruby anyway.

"My name isn't vomit-boy," the guy pouted, leaving Percy smirking and Ruby giggling slightly.

"Perseus Jackson, you can just call me Percy. This is Ruby," he introduced them, as the guy replied, "Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it!"

Percy rolled his eyes sarcastically in response, "Okay vomit-boy."

"Hey, motion sickness is a very real problem in today's society, Percy. What if I called her," Jaune gestured to Ruby, "crater-face?"

Percy smirked, looking down at Ruby, "I wouldn't have a problem with it."

"Hey!" an indignant Ruby protested, "You were supposed to defend me! And that was an accident, Jaune."

"Whatever you say… crater-face."

The black-haired girl pouted cutely as Percy and Jaune shared a laugh at her expense.

Jaune was having the time of his life. Well, his boring life, but still. Here he was, chatting amicably with two strangers who'd waved him over.

Admittedly, he wasn't the best at making friends, which was why he was ecstatic when they waved him over, even if they called him "vomit-boy".

"So…" Ruby started, "I got this!"

The black-haired girl pulled out a terrifying, massive scythe that seemed to be too large for her to even wield.

Jaune flinched back a little, not wanting to be skewered by the now terrifying girl.

Percy on the other hand, whistled appreciatively.

"This is my baby, Crescent Rose," she said proudly, "I made her myself… so what do you have?"

"Well," Jaune winced internally, "I have this sword. Crocea Mors. And this shield."

"Sooo… what do they do?"

"Well, the shield gets smaller and turns into my sheathe."

"Wouldn't it weigh the same?" Ruby interjected.

"Y-yeah."

Percy clapped him on the back, "I still think it's pretty cool. A shield that turns into a sheathe for its sword is no small thing, even if it weighs the same."

Jaune flushed, "Y-yeah."

"Ooh, ooh, Percy show me your sword from the other day!"

The raven-haired teen sighed at the overenergetic girl, pulling out a capped golden pen.

"A… pen?" Jaune asked.

He uncapped it.

A glowing golden blade sprang from the pen. It was a beautiful leaf-shaped blade, intricately crafted and pulsing in Percy's hand.

Ruby looked like she had stars in her eyes. She reached up to try and grab it when Percy jerked it upwards slightly.

Pouting, she jumped and tried for it, but he held it high above his head, and she couldn't touch it.

"Percy… please!" she pouted, going for the baby seal eyes.

Jaune didn't know how Percy kept his composure for so long, but after a minute, Percy eventually gave in.

"Fine…"

Ruby examined it with visible excitement, practically vibrating in place as she ran her hand along its blade.

"How does it even work? The mechashift is so quick and smooth! It's so beautiful!"

Percy could only smirk at the flabbergasted girl, sharing a look with Jaune that said, why does she like weapons so much? Neither of them knew where her obsession with weapons came from.

"Ruby! Over here! I saved you a spot!"

A blonde was waving her hand at them, gesturing them over.

"Oh…" Ruby looked apologetic, "Hey, I gotta go. I'll see you after the ceremony!"

"Great!" Jaune exclaimed sarcastically, "Where am I supposed to find a nice, quirky girl to talk to?"

Percy could only look on in amusement as a smirk settled over his lips.

Jaune rolled his eyes in response.

Yang was having the time of her life so far in her first day at Beacon.

"It's like a big, slumber party!" Yang exclaimed, while Ruby only rolled her eyes.

"I don't think dad would approve of all the boys, though."

"Me neither."

Close by, two idiots were trying to wrestle for her attention. Tch. Yang rolled her eyes. Muscle bound morons.

"Ooh, who's that?"

Yang nudged her sister, who had to look up from her notebook, "Who's that with the black hair and sea-green eyes?"

Ruby peeked over her notebook to see Percy in a pair of shorts trying to find his shirt.

"Hm? That's Percy. From fighting with that criminal Torchwick, remember? I told you about him."

"You said he was good-looking, but gawd damn…"

He had disheveled, jet black hair that was swept to one side, as if he just had a walk to the beach, with deep sea-green eyes.

Ruby rolled her eyes at her sister, "I can see what you like about him. But you think every guy is hot."

Yang let her eyes trail over the free eye candy, lingering on his toned muscles and broad shoulders, not to mention the abs. The abs.

"No, I think just this one from now on. I want this one."

"Yang! It's rude to point at people."

"Not when they're hunks, it's not."

Ruby shook her head at her sister's antics.

"Wait! That girl…"

Yang raised her eyebrows. This was a chance for her to embarrass her sister, and for Ruby to make some friends. Win-win situation.

"You know her?"

"Not really. She saw what happened this morning but left before I could say anything."

Yang smirked deviously, "Welp! Now's your chance!"

"Wait! What're you doing?" Ruby yelped, as her sister dragged her up and to the girl.

"Hello!" Yang sang confidently, "I believe you two may, know each other?"

The black-haired girl glanced up from her book. "Aren't you… that girl that exploded?"

"Uhh… yeah! My name's Ruby," she paused, scratching the back of her head, "But you could just call me craterr… eh, actually you can just call me Ruby."

She reached out her hand, awkwardly, and retracted it when the girl didn't respond.

What are you doing?

Yang voiced her thoughts in a whisper to Ruby, who responded in a similarly quiet fashion, "I don't know- help me!"

The blonde turned towards the girl.

"So… what's your name?"

She sighed, "Blake."

"Well, Blake, I'm Yang! Ruby's older sister. I like your bow!"

"Thanks."

"It goes great with your…", Yang struggled, "…pajamas!"

"Right." Blake's voice indicated her skepticism.

"Nice night, don't ya think?" The blonde pulled the cheesiest one-liner known to man.

"Yes… it's lovely. Almost as lovely as this book."

Yang scoffed internally. Bookworm.

"That I will continue to read," she lightly glared at them.

"… as soon as you leave," she added, golden eyes glancing back down at the book in her hands.

Yang sighed in disappointment, "Yeah… this girl's a lost cause."

Her sister did not seem to share her sentiment. "What's it about?"

"Huh?" the golden-eyed girl glanced up in brief surprise at Ruby.

Ruby forged on, unbothered, "Your book. Does it have a name?"

"W-well, it's about a man with two souls, each fighting for control over his body," Blake stated neutrally.

Yang tried to play mediator, "Oh yeah… that's… real lovely."

Ruby stepped forward, "I love books. Yang used to read me every night before bed. Stories of heroes and monsters… they're one of the reasons I wanna be a huntress."

"Why is that? Hoping you'll live happily ever after?"

"I'm hoping we all will. As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books. Someone who fought for what was right and protected people who couldn't protect themselves."

"That's very ambitious for a child," she said without a hint of hostility in her voice, "Unfortunately the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."

"Well, that's why we're here. To make it better."

"Aww… I'm so proud of my baby sister," Yang interjected, giving her a hug-fest as they wrestled lightly.

"Ruby, Yang, it's a pleasure to-"

"What in the world is going on over here? Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep? Oh not you again!"

Yang put her face into her palm. Well, seems like Ruby made three friends and one enemy.

"Guys, she's right, people are trying to sleep."

"Oh, now you're on my side," the white-haired girl said.

"I was always on your side!" Ruby protested.

"Yeah, what's your problem with my sister? She's only trying to be nice!" Yang defended her sister.

"She's a hazard to my health!"

Blake rolled her eyes, not caring enough to let this argument continue, and she blew on the candle to snuff the lights out.

Percy walked by Ruby and Yang arguing over being on each other's teams and a hyper auburn-haired girl chatting animatedly with a tired guy dressed in green garments.

A redhead, Jaune, and the ice queen Weiss arguing over teams, yet again. Well mostly Jaune and Weiss arguing.

"Alright, alright, what's going on here?" he stepped in. It seemed like his role at Beacon was really the mediator. Might as well get paid for it too. Maybe Ozpin would do that. He seemed like a nice enough guy.

"This dunce over here was flirting with me!" Weiss practically snarled, while Jaune only raised his hands in self-defense.

"And who is this that you two are fighting over?" Percy commented sarcastically, pointing to the red head.

"I'm Pyrrha Nikos."

"Perseus Jackson, but you can just call me Percy."

"In that case, you can just call me Pyr."

The two shook hands.

And why she seemed to be searching his face for any sign of recognition?

"Ugh!" Weiss rolled her eyes at him, "Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"

"Not in the slightest, snow angel," Jaune interjected, as Percy snorted, "More like ice queen."

Weiss ignored him, "Pyrrha graduated at the top of her class at Sanctum."

Jaune and Percy shared a look, Percy deciding to play along, "Never heard of it."

Weiss continued, "She's won the Mistral Regional Tournament 4 years in a row… a new record!"

Percy nodded sagely, "Very cool."

Pyrrha giggled at Weiss' frustration with them.

"Ugh! Forget it. You're a lost cause."

Weiss stomped away in her typical fashion, as Percy shook his head in amusement.

"So… what teams would you guys prefer?" Jaune asked.

Hmm… who'd be on his?

Teams…

He didn't really know anyone here, other than Ruby and Jaune. Might as well let fate dictate what would happen.

"I'll just let it happen however it may," Percy nodded, Pyrrha apparently agreeing with him.

The people congregated at a cliff, each on a… catapulter? Vaulter? Eh.

He focused back on Ozpin speaking. Teams. Eye contact determines partners.

Wait…

Eye contact?

What a random, cynical, useless way of determining partners. What if their styles didn't compliment each other? What if they constantly clashed, like Ruby and Weiss? If those two ended up as partners, they would definitely explode the team in half a day.

Jaune looked oddly nervous at the fact that there was no landing strategy, and Percy had to withhold a little chuckle at his plight. He would be fine, though.

He watched the others with their own landing strategies; Weiss used glyphs to get herself down, and Ruby shot her gun to slow her momentum. Yang fired her… gauntlets? The pink-eyed guy dressed in green grabbed the top of a tree and swung down. The redhead rolled onto a particularly thick branch of a tree. And Jaune? Well… Jaune was kind of flailing about.

Percy winced. That would definitely hurt.

Percy drew a cushioning ward as he landed, his knees creaking slightly as he transferred his momentum perfectly into a roll. His senses told him had he been a mortal, his knees would have been absolutely shredded.

He scouted his surroundings, noting that no one was near him. Expanding his senses, he felt no bodies of water that were enough to be a human.

Shrugging his shoulders, he turned towards the northern end of the forest using his perception of the sun.

His senses tingled as he felt a large body approaching from behind him.

Percy spun around, his ballpoint pen uncapping into Anaklusmos.

Several stepped out, surrounding him. They were ugly things. Black and white, with red eyes, they were like massive grizzly bears. Like maybe a smaller hellhound except a bear version. An Ursa, he recalled from his readings.

One of them swiped at him, and Percy leapt to the right before boosting himself with his aura.

His blade absolutely skewered the Ursa. It had a momentary look of shock on its face before it turned to black dust.

Huh. Good to know monsters dissolved on Remnant too.

The others, perhaps sensing the danger or sensing the prey, congregated on him like a horde of bees.

"Come on uglies. We don't have all day," Percy taunted.

Percy leapt through their legs, cutting one's off and ducking beneath another wide swing.

He grabbed the monster by its leg, heaving it into the ground.

His aura and training, combined with his demigod heritage, made his strength almost too powerful.

Percy leapt away from another two ursas taking their shot at him, before skewering the one he had thrown away. The raven-haired teen summoned ward knives, ending the last two with easy shots to the noggin.

He wiped his hands against each other, feeling slightly badass. It seemed like these Grimm were a tier below most Greek monsters.

Werewolve-like Grimm, beowolves, surrounded him.

Tch. Dishonorable bastards. Not even giving him a breather.

Even though he probably didn't need it.

He spun into a whirlwind of death, using his aura to enhance his swings and power behind it. He fell into his normal flawless dance of death, ripping them all to shreds with ease.

A beowolve snuck up on him, and he whirled to kick it to the ground before cutting its head off.

He ducked under another's swipe, slicing its stomach upwards and bisecting it. It turned into dust.

A double-headed, massive snake appeared before him – a King Taijitu. Percy flipped over the turning heads, easily slicing the white side in half like it was butter. The black half came in for vengeance, hissing angrily, but Percy again rolled to the side.

The overgrown snake tried turning, but it was too slow, and Percy skewered its eye out to the other side.

More fighting drew more Grimm, and Percy grinned bloodthirstily, eager to feel the thrill of battle once more.

An hour later, he had cleared all the Grimm in the area; dust coated Riptide so much that it looked black, and he blew it all off.

He heard screaming, however. He ran towards the source, determined to save a fellow classmate and maybe gain a partner too.

He had to squint his eyes.

Was that… Ruby? Flailing her arms and flying in the air?

Percy dashed forward to save her from hitting the ground, but before he could, a flying Jaune crashed into her side, the two flying into the trees.

Blake and Yang were there too, both staring at them with a 'WTF' look on their faces.

"Did your sister just fall from the sky?" he heard Blake comment, as Yang was speechless.

A floundering Grimm stumbled its way into the clearing, the crazy auburn-haired girl riding it.

"Did she just ride an Ursa to death?" Percy snorted in amusement. The pink-eyed guy was there too, clearly exhausted.

"Nora… please… don't ever do that again."

His words were met with silence, however. The girl dashed away from her companion, picking up a chess piece and dancing with it.

The chess pieces were the relics.

Percy shrugged. It made sense. He picked up a white king piece and stuffed it in the back pocket of his combat pants.

In front of them, Pyrrha was running from a massive scorpion Grimm – a deathstalker. It's venomous tail dangled over its head as the redhead ducked and rolled, dodging its flimsy attempts to grasp her.

"Did she just run all the way here with a deathstalker on her tail?" Blake groaned, folding her arms.

"So it would seem," Percy hummed.

Next to him, the blonde girl exploded in frustration, her eyes turning red, "I can't take it anymore! Can everyone just chill out for two seconds before something crazy happens again?"

"Umm… Yang?" Ruby pointed to the sky.

Percy slowly looked up, part of him not wanting to see what was going on.

He groaned. A Weiss Schnee was dangling on a massive avian bird creature – a nevermore.

"I said jump," Ruby opened her hands helplessly, looking to Percy.

"She's gonna fall."

Blake, ever the realist. He had to make sure to thank her later for the amazing commentary.

"She'll be fine," Ruby claimed.

"She's falling," Percy and the pink-eyed guy echoed each other.

Percy launched towards her, frantically scribbling a cushioning ward and expelling his aura into it.

Before she landed, however, Jaune jumped towards her, catching her… well… kind of catching her.

He landed unceremoniously on the cushioning ward, as Weiss landed on his back.

"My hero," she drawled out sarcastically.

"My back," was the response.

The redhead tripped over a rock, flying onto the ground before them unceremoniously. She accepted a hand as Percy helped her up.

"Great!" Yang commented with thick sarcasm, "The gang's all here! Now we can die together!"

"Alright, alright, relax blondie," Percy drawled out, "Let's do intros first, and then we can join each other in violent death, peacefully of course. The name's Percy by the way."

The blonde smirked at him, "I like you. I'm Yang. Ruby's older sister." The blonde was wearing a brown jacket with a yellow crop top baring her midriff and black shorts.

"Nora Valkyrie!" the hyper auburn-haired girl interjected and then pointed to the pink-eyed guy, "and that's Lie Ren! He prefers Ren though. I'm not quite sure why."

"Pyrrha Nikos," Pyrrha nodded. She was dressed in a way that reminded him vaguely of Athena, with elaborate bronze greaves and an armor corset. Hm. He should get some vambraces and light armor when he next got the chance.

"Blake," the Blake said, refusing to comment further in the usual blakeish, anti-social fashion.

"Ruby Rose! Hi everybody!"

"Weiss Schnee," the ice queen herself stated coldly.

"The name's Jaune Arc, short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it!" Jaune introduced himself enthusiastically.

The silence was deafening, as every girl there deadpanned at the guy, simultaneously giving him glares of death.

Percy sighed, taking pity on him, "Vomit-boy, you really have to stop using that line. It's abysmal."

He gained a few grateful looks for that.

"The nevermore!" Ruby exclaimed, as it shed its feathers as projectiles.

Percy dropped down, avoiding the deadly massive feathers. Ruby's cape got stuck by one, and she was flailing about as the deathstalker approached.

Percy sprinted towards her, cutting part of the cape off and freeing her. He whipped around to the deathstalker that was approaching, and quickly drew an expel ward.

The ward was powerful enough to sent the deathstalker skidding backwards several hundred yards.

"How are we going to kill that thing?" Jaune exclaimed, his voice slightly shaky.

Percy spoke once more, his voice cutting through the clearing, "Relax. Our objective is to get to the northern tip of the forest with chess pieces. It's the only thing that matters."

"He's right. There's no point in fighting these things," Weiss surprisingly echoed with Ruby.

"R-Right. Run and live. That is an idea I can get behind," Jaune voiced his agreement.

They grabbed more pieces as a group, each person with one.

"Let's go," Percy shouted.

The group sprinted towards the northern end for several minutes, emerging from the forest and reaching the ruins.

Old stone archways came out from the forest towards a chasm, with a full-scale cliff on the other side of the chasm.

The giant nevermore screeched above them, outpacing them and circling the chasm. It landed on a peak at the center of the chasm, screeching menacingly.

"It's just screeching there… menacingly," Yang couldn't seem to resist commenting the obvious.

Behind them, the same deathstalker from before tore straight through the forest, running full tilt at them.

"Aw man, run!" Jaune screamed out, the rest of the group needing no instructions to get the hell out of there.

Nora shot blasts from her grenade launcher at the giant nevermore, distracting it and allowing the group to reach the stone bridge.

The clumsy scorpion grimm kept trying to give chase, but its pincers missed Blake and Ren by mere centimeters.

The nevermore came circling back to the group, thirsty for vengeance.

It smashed through the bridge, sending most of the group to the other side, but Percy was thrown into the air.

The demigod boosted himself with a ward towards the bridge, grabbing the side and swinging himself up and onto his feet with ease.

He took a quick check at the other side, seeing Blake, Pyrrha, and Ren fighting against the deathstalker.

"They need help!"

"Let's do this!" Nora exclaimed to Jaune and Percy.

"Yeah, but uh… I can't make that jump."

"Don't worry about it," Percy said, "you two help them kill the deathstalker, I'll go catch up with the rest of the group on how to get rid of that pesky nevermore."

Percy boosted a giddy Nora and a flailing Jaune across the chasm screaming "I hate youuu".

"Jaune!" he called out.

The woozy blond turned to glare at him.

"Cut the deathstalker's head off, and there's only one place where it can land."

Jaune nodded, taking the advice. Percy gave him one final look before turning his attention to getting to Ruby and the rest of the group.

Blake swung onto one of the towers, uniting with the rest of the group.

"It's tougher than it looks!"

Percy smirked, "Let's hit it with everything we got!"

Blake, Ruby, and Yang immediately began firing, as Weiss fired dust combinations from her sword.

No such luck. The nevermore kept coming towards them.

Percy sketched a piercing ward, but it couldn't reach the nevermore. The demigod grit his teeth in annoyance at his own weakness, instead drawing a massive expel ward, pushing aura into it as it manifested.

The ward struck the overgrown bird head on, propelling it backwards. But other than that, it didn't do any real damage.

It slammed into the stone structure, breaking it to pieces. The five scrambled to get to safety, jumping and boosting off the falling pieces to get onto another bridge.

"None of this is working!" Weiss exclaimed in annoyance.

The nevermore's feathers were near impenetrable, being incredibly thick and hard like metal.

Percy quickly glanced at his teammates, noting each of their abilities mentally and how he could possibly use them to get rid of the overgrown annoying bird.

"I have an idea. Ruby, Blake, stop wasting ammo and shoot for the eyes! It's the only vulnerable part!"

The two nodded, even as Yang jumped into the nevermore's mouth and held it open as she blasted into it with no avail.

Percy grinned at her enthusiasm although it yielded no fruit. That girl was crazy.

"Weiss! Freeze the tail!"

Weiss complied, using glyphs to get herself closer before encapsulating the nevermore's tail in ice and effectively gluing it to the side of the cliff.

Ruby managed to nail a shot in its left eye, causing the nevermore to screech erratically and flail about. Its eyesight was horrible now, reducing the nevermore to the status of a dizzy nevermore.

"Blake! Sling!"

Blake widened her eyes in understanding before she threw it across to Yang, who tied it to her side.

Percy back handspringed onto the sling, stretching it even as Weiss summoned a massive boosting glyph. He touched his camp necklace for good luck, feeling as if they, the campers, were with him now.

"Think you can make the shot, Weiss?"

"Hmph. Can I?"

Percy rolled his eyes, "No need to be so snarky about it ice queen."

She launched him towards the still nevermore.

Percy flew through the air, Riptide leading the way. The nevermore beat its wings, sending deadly arrows in the form of feathers towards him. But with half of its eyesight gone thanks to Ruby, most of them missed, with only a couple that Percy had to adjust his body for. He twirled in the air as Riptide struck the nevermore's throat perfectly. The cliff shook at the impact; the nevermore screeched in pain.

He flipped up, landing and balancing on his blade before jumping upwards and simultaneously yanking the blade out.

He flipped in the air again before drawing a piercing ward, expelling massive amounts of aura into it and pushing it down.

The ward pierced the top of the nevermore's head like butter, bisecting it in half with ease as the valley shook with the force of the blow.

The demigod landed perfectly on top of the cliff. He struck Riptide forcefully into the ground before turning to look back. The two groups stared at him in awe.

The decapitated and bisected body of the nevermore flailed down.

"That was amazing!" Ruby exclaimed excitedly.

"It was pretty sweet," Yang winked at him, putting her hand on his chest, "and had to do the little backflips in the air and the cool pose for style points, eh?"

Percy rolled his eyes at her mannerisms, but smiled nonetheless, "Gotta look cool while saving the day, you know?"

"Jaune Arc. Lie Ren. Pyrrha Nikos. Nora Valkyrie," the professor interrupted their chattering, "the four of you retrieved the white rook pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as… Team JNPR (Juniper)! Led by… Jaune Arc! Congratulations, young man."

The blond teen gave a look of massive confusion before Pyrrha smacked him in the shoulder and he fell down, gracefully of course.

"And finally, Perseus Jackson, Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, and Yang Xiao-Long. The five of you retrieved the white knight pieces, bar Perseus, who retrieved the white king piece. Due to the irregular nature of this year, we do not have enough students to form all four-man teams, which is why you are a five-man team, and also why Perseus does not have a partner. Nevertheless, from this day forward, you will work together as… Team PRWBY (Pruby). Led by Perseus Jackson."

"I approve," Weiss stated immediately, before giving him a once over, "although not of the all-black outfit."

"Sue me. Though I suppose I need some clothes and combat gear."

"Look at our big bad leader already taking charge… don't you think that deserves some kind of a prize?" Yang smirked at him salaciously, stepping closer to him and bouncing on her toes to juggle her… assets. She fluttered her violet eyes at him. To her surprised delight, Percy nonchalantly raised an eyebrow, leaning in and whispering back, "I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Good job," Blake stated, smiling just a little bit, while Ruby was all over him, the shorter girl hugging his torso.

Ozpin smiled indulgently, "Looks like things are shaping up to be an… interesting year."

AN: Sorry again for using an original from the series without; again, I only include them to introduce characters and provide some context if a reader forgot or hasn't seen it. That is just the nature of fanfiction.

Admittedly, I couldn't find a combo for PRWBY with P at the front. I just settled for Pruby; at least it's an actual word. I tried PXWRB, with the X coming from Yang's last name, but "Powerb" isn't really a word, now is it?
