"We don't really know much more than you do either" Rouge began to explain "Omega and I came here about an hour ago to reclaim MY Master Emerald from that fool Echidna."

"Pure routine wow" Said Tails "And what did you bring Gamma along for? You don't usually go with her to this kind of thing."

"Oh! Well, I was about to leave when I saw him..." the bat girl pointed at the robot "...I felt sorry to leave him alone and thought I could kill two birds with one stone and thus come with reinforcements."

"I CONFIRM, I WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY BORED WITHOUT THE PROMISE OF NOTHING TO DESTROY" Gamma corroborated.

"Leave him alone? What about Shadow?" asked Tails quizzically "The few times we know where he is he's usually with you This time he wasn't?"

"Shadow? No way, I haven't seen his spikes for a while" Said Rouge "But you know how he is."

"Well, let's get back on topic" Sonic interrupted "What do you know that we don't Rouge?"

"Right... When we came here there was no sign of Knuckles, we didn't notice Amy's hammer, and the Master Emerald was as you see it now"

"THEN I PROCEEDED TO SCAN THE EMERALD, AND A LITTLE LATER I NOTICED THE PRESENCE OF TWO BEINGS" Explained Omega.

"Then I took action and, well... I didn't act in the best way" Said Rouge somewhat embarrassed.

"What do you mean?" Sonic said

"Well... I... It's none of your business!" Said the bat looking away with an airy gesture.

"AS SOON AS HE HEARD THAT THERE WERE TWO PRESENCES ROUGE SAID THAT ONE OF THEM MIGHT BE KNUCKLES AND ATTACKED THE MASTER EMERALD WHILE ORDERING ME TO STAY OUT OF IT, BECAUSE IT WAS PERSONAL. IN RESPONSE THE EMERALD INVOKE ALL THE BADNIKS YOU HAD DEFEATED" Omega added.

"OMEGA!" shouted Rouge.

"Hmm... I see..." Sonic looked hesitantly at Rouge "I guess sometimes love leads us to commit recklessness huh?

"Ha! It was just to check if that way I could free the Master Emerald from this appearance" Said Rouge pointing at the Emerald.

"Attacking the Master Emerald?" asked Tails incredulously.

"It wouldn't be the first time we've encountered something that works like this" Rouge replied.

Tails went to answer, but then thought about Rouge's response "Well... you're right" (But I still think he did it for Knuckles).

"I INSISTED ON KILLING THE BADNIKS, BUT ROUGE DECIDED IT WAS BETTER TO OBSERVE FROM FAR AWAY" Said Omega.

"We had already made enough risky decisions, this was all unknown so we hid and waited for something else to happen" Rouge replied pointing to the wall behind which they had been all "After a while we saw you guys coming"

"Then what is certain is that Knuckles and Amy have to be in here" Said Tails pointing to the Master Emerald "And that this corruption that surrounds it is able to... Replicate what it comes in contact with?" Tails leaned closer "That would explain the entity from earlier."

"And the badniks?" asked Sonic 'We know that the Master Emerald is 'connected" or rather "influenced" by the main source."

"The one from... Red Mountain" Rouge continued "Of course! That means that the Doctor has made himself master of that main source of this strange energy, and the badniks that had appeared here are replicas of the ones he will have created there"

"Well" Sonic said walking away from the group and starting to stretch "That sounds like we already have a new destination, looks like we'll have to pay the Doctor a visit huh?"

"We can use the Tornado" Said Tails, then looked back at Omega, realizing his sheer bulk 'Forget it, I think we'd better run' He said shrugging his shoulders.

"Too bad" Sonic said winking and smiling.

The four then set off on their way.
