Chapter 6: A curious Child and a Dangerous secret, this cannot end well
Nyssa POV:
I started groaning in my sleep, wondering my body felt like it was weighed down with molten lead.
A cool hand touched my forehead, withdrawing quickly. I whined a little and turned over, relaxing my frown only when a cool, wet cloth settled against my forehead. Somewhere close by, a voice started humming an unfamiliar tune.
"What?" I croaked out hesitantly. "What happen?"
Uncle Julius' voice broke through the haze of exhaustion. "Nyssa, you should get some rest. You've burned yourself out, attempting a spell at your age, not to mention succeeding. Dad is going to get a doctor for you."
I gave a questioning hum at the last statement. "You have a high fever, dear. We're doing what we can, but neither of us really has experience treating a child with a fever." That was Aunt Ruby's voice.
Wait, is it really okay to be that honest to a one-year-old?
"It'll be fine though," Ah, there's the 'I'm-worried-but-if-I-let-you-see-it-you'll-be-worried-too-so-I'm-reassuring-both-of-us' talk. "Here, have some water."
Wearily, I sat up, blinking my eyes open and making thr cloth on my forehead drop into my lap.
I was in an unfamiliar bed, in a strangely familiar (even though I'd never been here), room. Looking around, I saw Uncle Julius leaning against the wall and Aunt Ruby sitting on a chair next to me, holding a glass of water. She brought it to my lips.
Gulping water thirstily, I finished the class in seconds. "Want more?" Aunt Ruby offered, hands moving to the water bottle on the nightstand.
I shook my head. "Me do magic? How?"
My aunt and uncle exchanges glances. "She's so wonderfully articulate." Uncle Julius murmured, assuming I wouldn't hear, or if I did, I wouldn't understand what he was saying.
Actually, I'm fairly sure extremely few two-year-olds (technically older than me), if any, know what 'articulate' means.
"We're not sure, Nys," I heard this new nickname and smiled, since it sounded so similar to Niece, which is what I am to them.
"Usually most people can't do any magic until they're at least 4 years old, with a few accidents here and there," he mused to himself."But you, who's only a little over a year old, clearly said a word of power and made it's purpose happen, even without a wand."
"You don't think...?" Aunt Ruby turned to him with wide eyes, leaving me confused as to what she meant.
Uncle Julius shook his head, with the same look on his face as hers. "It's possible, but I don't think so. Amos mentioned that Elenora had an abnormally large amount of magic, so maybe that's it?"
They both looked as if they hoped that was it and whatever Ruby thought wasn't true.
"Elenora who?" I spoke up, and both of them flinched, as if they'd forgotten I was there.
"Nyssa..." Aunt Ruby looked incredibly pained. I wondered if the cramps started when the woman was only one month along, and if so, how should I help(because clearly that was why she looked like she was in pain, right)?
There was a gap in the conversation with me looking between the two of them. Uncle Julius broke the silence by saying, "Nyssa dear, Elenora was-"
Then Dad slammed the door open, cutting him off and looking incredibly frantic. "I brought a healer! Is Nyssa okay?!" Seeing me sitting on the bed, he rushed over and gave me a bone-crushing hug. "You're fine now, Leigh will heal you!"
As I got checked over by a bemused-looking man with glasses, I wondered what Uncle Julius had been about to say, and how this Elenora person's magic was realted to mine.
And why in the world did both Aunt Ruby and Uncle Julius look relieved when Dad burst in?
Annnd done. Phew. Since someone sent me a PM asking when I'd update, I rushed it a bit, but what do you readers think? Who is Elenora? How is she related to Nyssa? And... why did that room look so familiar? Review and find out!
If you want a quicker update to any of my other stories, just PM me! I'll always prioritize those people's ideas, and message back as soon as I can. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!
