Chapter 7- I messed up Big Time

Hello, I am now 2 years old and currently in the hospital.

You may be wondering, Hospital? What on Earth did you do that landed you in the hospital?

Do not worry readers, for it isn't me that's a patient here. It is my Aunt, Ruby Kane, and my soon-to-be-born cousin, Carter Kane. I'm just visiting.

That's right, Carter Kane is being born right this minute! Carter Kane, host of Horus, combat magician, Pharaoh of the Universe. Though I suppse he isn't any of those right now. He's just a screaming, red-faced baby.

Hm... Sadie was absolutely right, babies do look like deflated footballs when they're held by someone.
Oops. Rude thoughts, go away!

"Nyssa, meet you new brother, Carter!" Aunt Ruby smiled tiredly at me. She was sweating buckets, but looked extremely proud.

...Brother, huh? I've never had a little brother before. I'm getting a nice feeling, even if we really aren't brothers.

"Carter," I repeated, then looked at the baby. He'd stopped crying as if the sound of his name made him happy. I offered him my chubby finger, then smiled as he grabbed it with his tiny hands.

Granted, I have tiny hands too, so I can't talk.

While I was preoccupied with Carter (it seemed like he was happy playing with me), Dad and Uncle Julius exchanged smiles and nods, as if agreeing on something.

That was the moment a small part of the story shifted. But even though the change was small, it would have a big effect.

I stared. The little face stared back, then broke out into a smile.
Babies really are cute and adorable, I don't know why I ever thought otherwise.

Hm. This is a problem. An extremely serious issue.

"Hey Terry, do you like red or blue better" I held up 2 baby onesies (what are these things called again?) Oh yeah, Terry is my nickname for Carter. I kind of just blurted it out once and just rolled with it. Thankfully Carter doesn't seem to hate it either.

Uncle Julius knocked the red onesie out of my hand. "Definitely not red. I didn't even know we bought a red one."

"I put it in. It looked cute." I got the look in reply. Seriously, sometimes Uncle Julius is more of a mom then Aunt Ruby could ever hope to be. "Don't ever wear red or make anyone wear red, alright? Never. Red is bad."

I tilted my head. Why?

Oh, right. The books mentioned something about black being a good color and red being bad because desert sand was red and nothing grew in the desert, or something. (AN: now that's what you call a good memory right there, folks!)

"Okay," I agreed easily enough, then turned back to Carter. "Then the blue. Unless you want pink?"

My pronunciation is practically perfect now, by the way. All those days of practice paid off!

He blinked at me, looking sleepy. "Fine, yellow it is!" I threw my hands up in the air and marched off to the pile of baby supplies on the table in the spare bedroom.

Uncle Julius snorted at my indecisiveness. I ignored him. You know what, this relationship is less like an uncle and his niece, more like two friends trolling the heck out of each other (he was mostly the one doing the teasing. Mostly).

Strictly speaking, the pile of baby supplies has my stuff in it too, since I'm barely 2 years old but I don't need nearly as much as Carter because I'm already potty trained and grew out of drinking milk.

Oh, did I mention that Aunt Ruby, Uncle Julius and Carter CAME TO LIVE WITH US?! IN THE MANSION?! WHERE THEY SUPPOSED TO LIVE?!

Calm down, Katie. Deep breaths. In out. Of course I'm not actually taking deep breaths since that would worry my uncle.

Then again, his actions are worrying me so I guess it's fine to worry him a little.
Nah, I'm not that cruel.

Either way, I MESSED UP THE PLOT BIG TIME! At this rate I'm not even sure if Sadie's going to be born and good gods it would be an absolute disaster if she wasn't born!

I. Refuse. To. Freak. Out. Again.

Okay, let's gather the facts. We know Carter and Sadie are about 22 months apart in the books. That gives me just above a year to see if she's conceived or not. If not, that's something to panic about later.

Later. Shelve it for now. I'll just enjoy my baby ife while I can.

Maybe I should ask questions I wouldn't be able to get away with when I'm older?

No, like I said, I'm not that cruel and there's nothing I'm particularly curious about either. I won't have to worry about studying for years, and when I do I'm going to ace it (I am forever thankful I got reincarnated in an English-speaking country and not in the middle of nowhere).

And TA-DA! I finished it early this tie, I think! How do you like this chapter? Please review and let me know what you think, it really brings my motivation up!
