Chapter 11: New Friends(?)

So, I went to the hell filled with toddlers last chapter.

Just kidding! I'm here attending kindergarten with Rachel, and it's our first day. We're in the same class too, so the first thing I did after entering the classroom was to make a beeline to her.

She noticed me in an instant. "Nyssa!"

"Rach!" I ran up and hugged her. "When did you get here?" Oh yea, Rach is my nickname for Rachel.

"I don't know," she admitted. "But the pretty lady is nice! Her name is Miss Solace!"

At the sound of her name, the blond woman glanced over and noticed me. She gave a beaming smile that shined like the sun and came over. "Hello, did you arrive just now?"

I smiled too, trying not to look directly at her face. I'd go blind at this rate! "Yes mam, my name is Nyssa Kane! I'm Rachel's friend!"

She pulled out a clipboard from... somewhere... and marked something on it. Then she looked back at me and crouched to meet me eyes level like Miss Jenny did. "Hi Nyssa, I'm Naomi Solace, but you can just call me Miss Solace. I'm so happy to meet you! Let's get along!"

I nodded. "Yes, Miss Solace!"

Miss Solace beamed (again) and pointed to a nearby table. "Since you both are friends, why don't you sit together?"

We both gave obedient "ye!"es and went to the table she mentioned. Miss Solace went to the door to greet another kid that just came in. Wait... is that boy crying?

"Miss Solace really is nice," I commented to Rachel. She nodded vigorously. "I know right?! She also said we're going to do a lot of fun stuff together! I'm so excited!"

We reached the table miss Solace had pointed to. There was a lone blonde kid sitting there. His hair reflected the light so much that I had to squint. For some reason ir reminded me of Miss Solace's smile.

"Hi, can we sit here?" I asked him.

He looked surprised, then his face lit up like the sun. "Oh, yeah! I'm Will. What are your names?"

...I almost got blinded. Glancing over, Rachel seems to be in a similar state. I pulled her to the low table so we could sit together. We sat down side-by-side, with the blonde kid- No, Will- in front of us.

"I'm Nyssa," I introduced myself. No need to give my last name when Will doesn't.

Rachel snapped out of her daze. "I'm Rachel! Nice to meet you!"

Will started bouncing in his chair. "I'm so excited! Are you guys excited? Mom said kindergarten is very fun and I'll make lots of friends, but you're the first who talked to me!"

Hold up, are 3-year-olds usually this coherent? I can accept the hyper-activeness (heck, I haven't yet seen a quiet toddler in my life(s)), but I'm pretty sure 3-year-olds can't talk like this. -Meh, It's Class A and a private institution at that. I guess the kids here are a tier above the rest?

Or maybe just so rich that they bribed the school into letting their kids into Class A.

Wait, I'm getting off track.

While I was lost in thought, Rachel and Will had somehow become fast friends and struck up a conversation about how much fun they were going to have. I stared at them, stupefied, then added some input. They welcomed me into the conversation.

...Hey, this is actually kind of fun.

"Um..." I stopped talking and looked to the source of the sound. There was a boy standing there, looking awkward. Ohh, that's the boy I saw crying earlier.

"Yes?" I smiled to calm him down. He looked slightly less awkward now. "Could I sit here? Everywhere else is full."

[AN: Not me here quoting Ronald Weasley. No, definitely not.]

Looking around, I noticed that huh, the tables are pretty full. Seems like almost everyone arrived. "Sure, come sit! I'm Nyssa, what's your name?"

He looked relieved and sat down next to Will, diagonally opposite to me. That made Rachel and Will stop their conversation. "Hi, who are you?"

The boy started fidgeting and mumbled something. I leaned closer. No one caught what he said. "Sorry, could you repeat that?" I asked.

"I'm Malcolm." he looked up shyly, still fidgeting. 'Uh, I could go sit somewhere else if you want?"

A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! This kid-Malcolm- is so ADORABLE! I wanted to squee and hug him, but I held myself back.

"Makom," Rachel tried to pronounce it. "Ma-Malom?"

The other 3 of us burst out laughing. The whole classroom turned to stare at us. Rachel pouted and buried her face in my shoulder.

"Sorry, sorry, Rach," I wheezed. "It was just too funny!" Malcolm caught his breath. "If you want you can just call me Mal. That's what my Dad calls me."

"Okay Mal, nice to meet you," I greeted happily, still not completely over the laughing fit yet. "I'm Nyssa, This is Rachel and Will. Let's get along!"

He nodded with an adorable smile on his face. "Yeah!"

Just then, a clapping noise resounded in the classroom. It fell silent and everyone turned to look at the teacher.

Inwardly I was impressed. Getting toddlers to quiet down and obey you is not an easy thing (speaking from the experience of babysitting my cousin in my past life). In fact, I'm pretty sure it's impossible.

Miss Solace still had that bright smile on her face. "Alright, now that everyone's here, why don't we all introduce ourselves? State your names, favorite colors, that sort of thing!"

Well, my toddler like starts now.

And done! I think I'm pretty early this time, but there's a pretty good reason for that. Ok I'm just going to vent out all my excitement right now, you don't have to read it. OH MY GOD DISNEY'S MAKING A PERCY JACKSON SERIES! FINDING THAT OUT MADE MY WEEK AND I JUST SOMEHOW STARTED FURIOUSLY WRITING AND TYPING AND EDITING THE STORY AND OH MY GOD!

Yeah okay I'm done review and tell me what you think of this chapter. (BRO I'M SO EXCITED!)
