In this magical world, people send out job requests in flyers. Guilds obtain those job requests to help their members find work. However, one must be careful about what they read.
"See any jobs that actually work for you?" Maru said.
"Give me a second, I'm still looking." Mary said as she was looking over the jobs to find one she might actually like.
"Maybe you change your standards and quit being so picky." Sandy said.
"Well, I'm changing my standards on how a cat should act. One of them is that they never talk." Mary said. She was looking over them until she spotted something that caught her eye. "This one actually looks interesting." She grabbed one flyer that had a strange design to it. "Looks like they'll pay pretty well. All their asking is for us to translate whatever it says."
"Sounds simply enough. What does it say?" Maru questioned.
"I'm not sure. I can't make heads or tails of it, but they're asking for it to be translated." Mary said. "This sounds good enough for me, so let's try it. We might not even need to read." Mary walked over to a table to try and look it over, but she accidentally walked right into J. "Sorry about that, J."
"It's fine." J said, but the look in his eyes was telling her that it might not have been. It's like J had some sort of problem with her, but the two of them barely knew each other.
"Let me see that." Maru said as he took the flyer from her. "That's weird. I don't even know what language this is. If they're asking for a wizard guild to solve it, it must have to be magic related." He tried figuring it out, but he couldn't understand it either.
"Hey, we're here." Gin said as he and Aster came over.
"Where's Yukina?" Mary asked.
"She had something to take care of, but she should be here in a moment." Aster said. "Did you find a job? Need our help?"
"We're just trying to figure out what this one says." Sandy said.
"So, you're not going to be much help, Sandy?" Aster said.
"Hey! Are you saying I'm not helpful?!" Sandy said as he jumped right on Aster and pulled on his top. "Don't forget who flew you all the way from Wolfbane to Era! Did you think that was easy?!"
"I'm just teasing." Aster said.
"Well, I need to go." J said as he brushed past Mary and gave her the cold shoulder.
"You okay, Mary?" Gin said with him standing with her.
"It's weird. I feel like J has some sort of problem with me, but we barely know each other." Mary said.
"Man, I can barely read what is on this flyer." Maru said. "It's written in a strange language with some modern letters mixed in."
"What does it say? Try to pronounce the words." Aster said.
"Let's see... Uugo deri rasuchi..." Maru tried to read what was on it, but J spotted the flyer and was alerted.
"Wait! Don't finish reading it!" J called as he tried to stop Maru, but he was too late.
"Borokania. What does any of that even mean?" Maru questioned. That was when a bright light shined from the flyer and surrounded all six of them. That was when they all felt something strange happen to them. Others in the guild all looked and wondered what might happening to them.
"Hey! I'm here!" Yukina called when she came in the guild and spotted the others. "Are you guys okay?"
"What the?! What's with my body?!" Mary said. "My chest feels like it's heavy and my back hurts." She complained as she leaned against a table for support.
"Something about me feels rather different." Gin said. He placed his hands against his guns and actually seemed surprised to have them. "Yikes! Where did those things come from?!"
"That's weird. Why does everything seem so much bigger?" Sandy questioned.
"Bigger? Everything seems smaller to me!" Aster said.
"What's going on? I thought I was holding the flyer." J said. As for Maru, he just stood there and was rather shocked and surprised.
"Oh no..." Maru said.
"Guys? Are you all okay?" Yukina questioned. "Aster, what's going on? Why are you all acting weird?"
"What are you talking about, Yukina? Wait, when did you get so big, Yukina?" Sandy questioned.
"What do you mean, Sandy? Right now, I'm talking to Aster." Yukina said.
"I didn't say anything." Aster said. This was rather weird. Just then, the two of them looked at each other and seemed surprised at what they were looking at. They were all acting strange and Yukina didn't get what's going on. She thought something was off and reached for Gin.
"Gin, are you okay?" Yukina questioned.
"What are you talking about? I'm Mary." Gin said.
"I'm over here." Mary said. That was when they looked at each other and were surprised at what they saw themselves
"What is going on?" J said.
"What I was trying to tell you! Stop you from reading the flyer!" Maru said.
"What are all of you talking about?!" Yukina said as she didn't understand a thing.
"Shut up and listen!" Maru shouted. "Isn't it obvious?! Here's a hint! I'm not Maru, I'm J!" All of them were confused and didn't understand what was going on.
"Oh no! Once you realize it, it is obvious! We've all switched bodies!" Sandy said.
"What?! Sandy, what are you talking about?!" J said.
"I'm not Sandy! I'm really Aster!" He called with all of them surprised. "Listen! Maru and J, Mary and Jin, and Sandy and I have all switched bodies!"
"No way!" Everyone shouted. They all couldn't believe they actually switched bodies. Once they got a little straightened out as to who is who, they got back on track.
"Okay, so I'm really Maru in J's body. How did this happen?" Maru questioned. "All I did was read the flyer."
"That's what I was trying to tell you." J said. "I recognized the design on the flyer. This is actually a spell known as Changeling. It's a spell I thought was outlawed that causes one to switch bodies."
"How can that be?" Mary questioned.
"The Changeling spell... I too thought it was outlawed, but it would seem not." All of them looked to see Master Velvet joining in. "Changeling is a form of writing magic. Some bring it in posing as a job request, but I think it's someone's idea of a prank. A guild every now and then gets it. I wasn't aware that was the same spell."
"No offense to your body, Mary, but I don't want to be stuck like this." Gin said.
"I don't either! Heck, I took pride in my looks!" Mary called.
"Speak for yourselves! I like this!" Sandy said as he pranced around in Aster's body. "I've never felt so tall or strong! This feels great!"
"Hey! Take it easy! You're making me look ridiculous, Sandy!" Aster called. "I for one certainly don't like this! I don't want to be stuck in this cat's body! Someone better figure out how to change us back! This is humiliating and degrading!"
"Hey! You're in my body!" Sandy complained with him feeling offended.
"This is so weird." Yukina said. "I know you're in each other's bodies, but that's a little hard to believe. It's actually kind of funny seeing you all act in such a way."
"This isn't funny! We better figure out how to change back. If we don't, we might be stuck like this forever!" J said. "I do know one thing about this spell is that if we don't switch back in thirty minutes after this spell has been activated, we won't be able to change back!" That shocked all of those who were switched.
"You mean we could be stuck like this forever?!" Maru called.
"That can't happen! I want to go back in my hot body!" Mary called. "Someone better figure out how to change us back to normal now!"
"We better think of something fast because it's already been three minutes! We need to fix this fast!" Gin said.
"Well, this is an ancient spell. Undoing it could be a little tricky." Velvet said. "That said, it doesn't mean we can't try. Maybe there's something in our archives that might be able to help."
"I'll lend a hand. I know a little about this spell." J said.
"I'll try to keep them under control. If things don't go well, this could get ugly." Yukina said with worry.
"Please hurry!" All of them pleaded. Velvet got to work and searched around for anything that might switch them back. A few other members tried to lend a hand and see if they could help. Until then, the six of them would just have to wait until something happens.
"Don't worry. I'm sure someone will find something." Yukina assured. "Until then, it might not be so bad."
"Speak for yourself. I don't want to live with this pain." Gin said as he rubbed Mary's back. "Seriously, how do you put up with this pain Mary?"
"Well, that's why they have bras. Beauty is pain." Mary assured. "That reminds me, watch where you put your hands." She glared with Gin quickly placing his hands down.
"You guys have it easy! Look at me!" Aster complained. "At least all of you are still human! I don't want to be stuck in this body! I'm suppose to be an S-class wizard!"
"Hey, it can't be that bad being in my body!" Sandy argued. "Well, I actually like this! I feel so much bigger and actually stronger! This is sure a fast way for me to be S-class!" At least someone is enjoying it.
"This isn't right!" Aster shouted as he jumped up into the air in anger.
"Aster, calm down! It will be okay!" Yukina assured. "While you're at it, why don't you come down?" Come down? Aster didn't get it until he saw he unleashed Sandy's wings and was flying.
"Wow! I wasn't even trying to do that!" Aster said. "I've got to admit that this part doesn't seem so bad, but I still want to return to normal!"
"Any idea how much time we have left?" Maru questioned.
"I think it's already been at least ten minutes." Gin said. "What are we going to do if we actually get stuck like this? Just go back to work like usual?"
"We wouldn't have much choice if we can't go back to normal." Maru said.
"Well, I don't mind. I like this." Sandy said. "Still, it's rather boring just sitting here." As he signed, something strange happened. Pieces of crystal were actually coming out of his mouth. "That's weird!" They all were surprised by that with Aster feeling mortified that his body is doing that.
"Is your drool turning into crystal?! That is seriously gross!" Maru complained.
"Stop that at once, Sandy! You're making a fool of me!" Aster demanded.
"Weird, but cool!" Sandy said as he was just letting it all fall out.
"I said stop!" Aster shouted as he jumped on his own body and pulled his own face back to get Sandy stop doing that.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't even know you could do that! I'm not sure how it works!" Sandy said.
"That is so wrong." Mary said.
"But it's not Sandy's fault. It sounds like he wasn't even trying to do that." Yukina said. That was when something came to Mary. "What is it?"
"I just realized something." Mary said. "Sandy and Aster are able to use each other's magic, but Sandy doesn't know how to use it. Think about it! We didn't just switched bodies, but we also switched magic! The problem is that none of us know how to use each other's magic!" The moment she said that, they all realized the situation she mentioned.
"That's right!" Maru said. "We don't know how to use each other's magic, which means we wouldn't be able to work! We can't finish a job like this!" All of them were really freaked now because without the use of magic, they can't be wizards and get work.
"Wait! Maybe we can figure it out!" Gin said as he examined Mary's charms. "Which is which? What are those things she says?"
"How do these things work?" Mary said as she tried to do the same thing with Gin's guns.
"Hey! Watch where you point those things!" Mary said.
"How do I make something out of nothing?" Sandy questioned as he can't seem to use Aster's maker magic.
"At least I'm able to fly." Aster said as he floated around. "The problem is that this is all I can do! This body isn't good for combat or anything!"
"Hey!" Sandy called.
"Oh boy... This is getting ugly." Yukina said. "Guys, try to calm down. We're going to figure this out."
"Easy for you to say! Time is running out!" Maru complained.
"Maru, what about you? Can you use J's magic?" Yukina asked. That was when Maru realized something else.
"I don't even know what kind of magic J can use." Maru said.
"Let's see..." Yukina said as she tried to think. "If I remember quickly, I think he uses lightning magic."
"Lightning? I don't know about that, but something does feel off about J's body." Maru said. "I'm not really sure how to describe it."
"Argh! Please tell me you're close to figuring this out!" Aster shouted.
"Not quite, and we have only about ten minutes left." Velvet informed.
"What?! Only ten minutes left already?!" All of them called. They cant' believe they only have that much time left.
"No! This can't be happening! This has to be a nightmare!" Aster shouted. "I can't be stuck in this cat body for the rest of my life!" After he called that, he dropped to his hands and knees in misery. "This can't be the end for me."
"You keep saying such mean things about my body! That's it!" Sandy shouted. He jumped right into the air and then apparently body slammed Aster with the weight of his old body crushing him.
"What were you trying to do, Sandy?" Yukina asked.
"Aster kept saying mean things, so I just wanted to fly off upset, but I forgot that I don't have my wings anymore." Sandy complained.
"I'm... I'm sorry for being mean. I just want to go back to my normal body." Aster said with all that weight crushing on him. Time was still running out for them. They were coming down to the wire with less than ten minutes left. Everyone was starting to get antsy over it.
"Please tell me they're close!" Gin said. "I'm starting to get worried about what I can do with my hands."
"You think you have it bad? I don't want to be stuck in a man's body." Mary complained.
"We're trying, but we still can't seem to find anything." Velvet claimed.
"Only five minutes left." J said as he was starting to get anxious himself.
"This can't be happening! This can't be happening!" Mary said as she was starting to freak out.
"Please hurry!" Aster demanded.
"Try to calm down! It doesn't help if you add to the pressure!" Yukina said.
"Easy for you to say!" Gin complained.
"Just try something! Anything!" Maru called.
"I would, but I can't figure out the whole thing to make it work." Velvet said. All of them are really scared. This could be it.
"I'm just going to go for it!" J said as he was going to be daring. "It's all or nothing at this point! Here we go!" All of them braced themselves for whatever it is J might try. "Now! Ainakorob ihcusar ried oguu!" When J said those words, the flyer glowed once again and unleashed the same light as before. Did J really figure it out? When the light faded away, all of them wondered if it worked.
"Well? How do you guys feel?" Yukina questioned.
"I'm me!" Mary said as she was back in her regular body. "I'm back in my own body once again!"
"So am I!" Gin said. "I don't know how J figured it out, but he managed to pull it off."
"Wait a second..." Velvet said as he took a look at the flyer again. "Those are the same words that was used to switch you in the first place, but he said them backwards. It was so simple that I didn't even think of that." Simple yet effective since it seemed to have worked.
"Well, it looks like it worked and everything is back to normal now." Yukina said.
"No it's not! I'm still in the wrong body!" J and Maru called.
"No fair! I read the spell myself!" J called. "If any of us should have switched back, it should have been me and Maru!"
"We didn't switch back either!" Aster claimed as he was still in Sandy's body. "No! I can't stay stuck in this body!"
"Well, I really don't mind!" Sandy said. They couldn't believe this. They're still switched? This spell is quite something.
As you can see, there is still much to learn about magic. One must always be careful with what job they take because you never know what lies ahead of them. With that, this little story comes to an end.
