A/N: Hello, fellow writers. I've come with a new chapter, plus another for the Carrie/ Killer Instinct crossover. Not what was with this month, but my brain got real creative for this to happen. With that said, happy reading!

On her chair, Dr. Rainey wrote her notes regarding the emergency visit from Noob Saibot. Something tells me I'll have more visits from the Mortal Kombat personnel. Then, a knock on the door grabbed her attention. "Come in."
A man in his sleek Nightwing costume walked in. The dark blue and black suit hugged his athletic frame, and the iconic bird emblem stood out boldly on his chest. His mask concealed his identity, but he couldn't hide his intense green eyes.
"Damian Wayne, what a surprise," Dr. Rainey said.
The estranged son of Bruce Wayne glanced at his surroundings before facing the psychiatrist. "Your office looks different from what I expected. I thought it would be more sterile and clinical."
"A warmer, more inviting environment helps my patients feel more at ease and open during our sessions. It allows for more effective communication and therapy."
"I still don't see how talking about my problems will make me feel better. However, the Regime recommended you because they believe your innovative approach might help me. I'm skeptical but willing to give it a shot."
"Well, I appreciate your honesty. Please sit on the couch or lie down."
Damian hesitated, staring at the couch like a foreign object. Eventually, he sat down, his posture rigid and defensive. "This feels strange."
Dr. Rainey offered a reassuring smile. "It's normal to feel that way at first. Let's start by discussing whatever is on your mind without pressure or expectations."
"Well, where do I begin? I guess the most pressing issue is my relationship with my father. It's complicated, to say the least."
"Is it because your father is Batman?" Dr. Rainey asked.
Damian's eyes flickered with surprise and frustration. "Yes, and no. It's about more than just his alter ego; it's about the expectations, the legacy, and the constant shadow I live under."
"If I remember correctly, you're trained as Robin, right?"
"Yes, and that comes with its own set of challenges and pressures. I must strive for perfection to live up to a legacy that sometimes feels impossible to reach."
"Damian, no one is perfect, not even Batman. It's critical to acknowledge your strengths and limitations without comparing yourself to an idealized version of someone else."
Damian's expression softened as he absorbed the psychiatrist's words, feeling slightly relieved. "Yes, you're right, but I still feel judged against my father's achievements. It's like I'm always in his shadow, no matter what I do."
"Well, that's the consequence of the life of a sidekick."
"Oh, doctor, sidekick is a terrible word. I prefer the term 'partner' instead. It implies a more equal standing, a sense of collaboration rather than subordination."
"Partner it is, then."
"Back when I trained with my grandfather, Ra's al Ghul, the expectations were different but equally demanding. He saw me as the heir to his empire, someone who would carry on his vision of the world. Balancing those expectations with my father's ideals has been a constant struggle."
"And what visions did your grandfather have regarding the world?"
"Ra's al Ghul believes in a world purged of corruption through extreme measures. His vision is destruction and rebirth, a cycle where only the strong survive."
"I see, and this clashes with your father's ideals of justice and moral integrity?"
"Exactly. I'm pulled in two directions, each with goals and expectations."
Dr. Rainey jotted down her notes. "Damian, have you considered your vision for the world? Beyond the shadows of your father and grandfather? What kind of legacy do you want to create?"
Damian mused, his brow furrowing. "I've never thought about that. An ethical world where justice does not come at humanity's expense. A legacy that honors both my father's and grandfather's teachings but reflects my values."
"That sounds like a profound and balanced vision. Defining your path and legacy is imperative, integrating wisdom you've gained from both sides but remains uniquely yours. I want to discuss your estrangement with your father and why you joined the Regime. Does this have something to do with your father's no-kill code?"
"In some ways, yes. I considered the no-kill rule a weakness, an ideological approach that allowed villains to return. I joined the Regime to achieve definitive justice, even if it meant crossing lines my father never would. For example, when Batman and I traveled to Arkham Asylum to stop Superman from killing the prisoners, I saw firsthand the consequences of our differing philosophies. Batman wanted to incarcerate them, believing in redemption, while I believed stronger measures were necessary to ensure they couldn't harm anyone again."
"Ah, I see. However, do you believe some villains could be redeemed?" Dr. Rainey asked.
Damian paused, contemplating. "It's a troublesome question. While I want to believe in redemption, my experiences have shown me that some individuals are beyond saving. Like the Joker, for example. Despite many attempts at rehabilitation, he always reverts to his evil ways, causing chaos and suffering. It's hard to hold onto the belief in redemption when faced with someone like him."
"So Superman killing the Joker was the course of action?"
"In that instance, yes. The Joker's continued existence only guaranteed more death and suffering; his end was a necessary sacrifice for the greater good. After all, if my father refused to take him out, someone else would have. The Joker's actions left no room for mercy or second chances. I accepted a harsh reality as essential for true justice."
Dr. Rainey nodded. "Well, earlier, we talked about forging your legacy. Have you thought about being a torture sommelier for the Regime or the Bat Family?"
Damian furrowed his brows. "What is that? I've never heard of that before."
"A torture sommelier is someone who specializes in selecting and administering precise torture methods to extract information or punish. It's a controversial role, but given your unique perspective on justice, it might be something you could consider."
Damian scratched his chin. "Interesting, but I'm not sure if it's the path I want to take. Although Jason Todd might disagree with me, I aim to deliver justice, not inflict suffering for suffering's sake. I believe there must be a balance between strength and mercy, even if that balance is difficult to find. Still, can you provide me an example?"
"Sure." Dr. Rainey pulled out her phone and clicked on a video called 'The Boats.' She then handed the phone to Damian and instructed him to click play, which he did.
Eight minutes later, after watching the video, Damian looked impressed. "I must say, this Shigeo Ijuin has a knack for devising intricate methods to help his clients. However, while I appreciate the skill, I'm still wary of crossing that line. The actual test of justice is to uphold our principles even when it's challenging. Maybe I'll tell Jason about it, though. Given his more ruthless approach to dealing with criminals, he might find it intriguing. It could offer him new perspectives on balancing his methods with finesse."
"Fair enough. If you're looking for alternatives that align with your principles, there are other methods to consider. Psychological tactics, non-lethal immobilization techniques, and advanced interrogation without physical harm can be just as effective. These approaches could allow you to extract information and administer justice without compromising your moral stance."
"Those sound more consistent with my vision. True strength lies in maintaining our humanity, even in our darkest challenges. Hopefully, I can integrate these methods into our operations."
"That's a pleasure to hear," Dr. Rainey said. "Now for one question: do you plan to reconcile with your father one day?"
Damian paused, taking a deep breath before answering, "I've thought about it, but reconciliation is a two-way street. We'll see if he's willing to meet me halfway."
"I'll have to leave you with that thought," Dr. Rainey said, glancing at the clock on the wall. "Our session is over today, but I'm confident you'll find your way."
Damian nodded, feeling renewed purpose as he stood up to leave.
Once outside, Damian glanced at the building. The Regime was right about Dr. Rainey; she makes you see things differently. He pulled out his phone and made a call. "Hey, Jason, it's me. Damian."
"Damian, what's up? You sound different—more resolved," Jason said.
"This morning, I had a consultation with Dr. Rainey. We have some creative strategies to discuss. Also, I watched an interesting video regarding torture sommeliers. It might fit your style since it's not my cup of tea. It could introduce nuanced techniques that align with your approach while offering a fresh perspective on handling tough situations."
"A torture sommelier, huh? That sounds like something I'd enjoy. Let's meet later, and you can tell me all the details."
A/N: Oh boy, I don't think Batman might not like the idea of Jason Todd taking ideas of that controversial role. As for Damian, would he find a way to make his vision a reality? Well, it's time for my brain to rest, so I'll see you later.
