Do you have a best friend? If so, how buddy buddy are you with him or her? What would happen if that person suddenly disappeared from your life before you could even understand what was happening?
Could you understand? Could you go on? Could you even want to feel anything else after losing them? Because that's how a certain teenage boy was feeling right now.
"It has been weeks already since it happened," A red-haired girl said.
"Can you blame him? It affected all of us and we are not fully ok yet, but he took it the hardest" Another red-haired girl who was similar to the other one to a certain degree said to the other.
"Now come on, girls. You just have to give him some time" A blond-haired man said, cooking some breakfast in the kitchen.
"But Dad, we're worried. What if Johnny doesn't come out of this? He's never been like this before." the red-haired girls said at the same time.
"I know, Susan and Mary, but everyone grieves differently," The father said, sighing himself.
The two red-haired girls were the Test Twins, Mary and Susan who were both Genius and Prodigys when it came to almost all fields of science, and currently their only brother was in a bad place, in his room, the door locked after what happened.
The only times their brother had come out of his room were for meals, the bathroom, and school. Nothing else.
"Im home"
A female voice was heard as the members turned around to see a beautiful woman in a business suit, who seemed to be tired after a long day of work.
"We're in the kitchen, dear!" The father said as the woman walked into the kitchen, seeing her family.
All but TWO members of the family.
"Hugh, please tell me he isn't-"
"He is. He's up in his room, Lila. Like he has been for the past few weeks after school." Hugh said with a sigh.
Lila looks saddened at that "Dukey...passing away really wounded him didn't it?"
The remaining family members looks disheartened whenever the name was brought
"They were basically brothers by how they acted," Hugh said, thinking back how he talked to him like Dukey could understand him.
"He was one of a kind," Susan said, keeping the hidden experiment to turn Dukey VERY intelligent a secret.
"The best dog this family ever had," Mary said.
"We need to find a way to get him out of this funk, it can't be healthy for his age to be like this," Lila said, worried for her son.
"He's 16 years old, mom. Not only is he grieving but he's still going through puberty. We don't know how to help him move on without making things worse." Mary said as Susan nodded in agreement.
"Well we have to do something," Lila said in worry, sitting at the table with her daughters. "I can only imagine how this is affecting his school life?"
"Honey, the only good thing about this is that Johnny is behaving at school and his grades are up. But that's not worth Johnny becoming a husk of himself!" Hugh said sadly.
"Maybe what he needs is to go somewhere fun and take his mind off things" Susan offered.
Lila tapped the table before an idea came to mind, remembering something important she learned at work.
"I've got it! The department of my company is sending some of us to Hawaii on a business trip next week. I can have Johnny come with me and cheer him up." Lila said with a smile.
"That...could actually work, Mom. When's the trip?" Mary asked her.
"Next week...during school," Lilia said, frowning.
"I can't believe I'm saying this but" Hugh got up and said "Forget about school! Our son's happiness is what is necessary right now"
"Hawaii is one paradisic tourist place to spend some vacation time" Susan affirmed.
"Plus, plenty of cute girls to help take his mind off Dukey," Mary added as she nodded.
"Maybe that's what he needs huh? A girlfriend to take his mind off the bad places, love beats all" Susan said.
"So we're all in agreement. Tomorrow, I'll head to the school and talk to the principal about Johnny taking a leave of absence." Lila said with a smile.
"Yes dear, this will be good for him," Hugh said with a smile "I'm sure that he will like to spend time with you too since you so busy most of the time"
The twins nodded in agreement as their plan was set in stone. By the time tomorrow came and the family was having breakfast, everyone was eating peacefully as Johnny was getting ready for school.
"So, when will you head to the school, Mom?" Mary asked.
"I'll head there around 9:30a. I'm already packed and I have a meeting with the principal." Lila said.
Footsteps were then heard as Johnny was coming downstairs, looking like he had a hard time sleeping as one can notice by the bags under his eyes.
"Hey..." He said nonchalantly.
Johnny's face wasn't the only thing that looked different as his flaming hair was now flowing instead of standing, and reaching his shoulders. His clothes were a black hoodie with no sleeves and camo cargo pants with black shoes.
'He's not even wearing his favorite shirt anymore.' Everyone thought, noticing the lack of the radioactive symbol.
"Hey there buddy, how are we doing today?" Hugh asked, even if he knew how he was feeling just by looking.
"Fine, I guess," He said with a voice drained of all joy.
He sat down at the table and looked at the wooden table, not wanting to make eye contact with any of his family while his father continued to cooking breakfast.
"Say, Johnny, do you have any plans to do after school or something fun in school? Like some amazing prank?" Susan said, trying to stir his teen self.
"No. Just planning to come home." Johnny said, picking up his fork.
"What about an after-school club?" Mary asked.
"Not my style," Johnny said.
"How about some skating with Gil? I'm sure you guys can have some fun?"
"He can do it on his own really, I'm not as good as he is at skating," Johnny said with a bored tone.
Everyone flinched and softly gasped from this! They know for a fact that Johnny is one of the best skateboarders in Porkbelly, maybe even the best, and he was admitting that Gil was better than him?
'His depression is even worse than we thought!' Lila thought in worry.
'If we don't do something quickly, we will never have our son back' Hugh thought "I'm sure today will be an interesting son, just wait and see"
"Yeah, you never know in Porkbelly," Mary said, patting her 16-year-old brother's shoulder.
"Sure, a supervillain could attack," Johnny said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "That's pretty common here."
While they understood Johnny's pain for what he had to go through, it was still somewhat annoying how much of a 'mood' he was now every day, it's like every time they tried to cheer him up he shot them down, just wanting to be left alone. But they were not going to give up that easily, as he left for school the plan was going to take flight.
After a rather silent breakfast and a half-hearted goodbye, Johnny left for school as his family watched him go.
"Phase one is done," Hugh said with a smile.
"Phase two initiates in 2 hours," Mary said, looking at her mom.
The whole family would make sure to get everything ready for it and some backup ideas in case Johny refused to go for some reason.
-2 hours later-
Lila had arrived at the school and went to the principal for her meeting about her son. The very same man who was the principal from Middle School, moving up to High School only a year ago.
"So you wish to take Johnny on a leave of absence to help him overcome his depression?" Jules Harm said, putting his hands together.
"I don't want to say it's depression but it feels like the start of one so yes, I want this trip to help him out in this hard time of his" Lila said to the principal.
"Hmmm, I sympathise with you, Mrs. Test, I see a lot of myself in Johnny but I don't think a sudden vacation is enough," Jules said.
Lila was about to reply before the principal got a call and he put it on speakerphone.
"Yes?" He asked.
"Sir, we've got a bit of a problem." A teacher said in worry.
"What is it?" Jules asked, standing up.
"A fight has broken out in the classroom! Johnny Test and Michelle "Bumper" Randalls are fighting!" The teacher said in a panic. "And it's getting bloody!"
"Say what now?" Lila asked, shocked to hear her little man got in a fight.
"What?!" The principal said loudly "How did this happen?"
"I don't know, Bumper must've said something because Johnny was the one who threw the first punch! He looks livid right now!" the teacher said before a crush was heard on the other side of the phone. "Oh no, they'd spilled into the hallway!"
"Hallway?!" Jules shouted as he stood up in shock. "Stop them as best as you can! I'm on the way!"
The teacher hung up as Jules ran out of his office as Lila rushed after him, she had just as much reason to stop this fight too!
'This doesn't sound like my son, he is not a violent person, something must have happened' Lila thought in worry.
The two adults rushed through the school as they followed the sound of screaming, cheering, and crashing! This made Lila even more worried as she went faster until they came upon the fight! Lila and Jules gasped at the sight of the fight! Other students formed a ring around Johnny and Bumper as the two threw blow for blow at each other! Bumper had several bruises and a bleeding lip while Johnny had twice as much bruises and a black eye while breathing a lot heavier than Bumper.
"G-G-Give it up, Test!" Bumper shouted, nearly out of breath.
"Not...in your life! Not until I beat an apology out of you!" Johnny shouted, his depression fueling his anger at Bumper. "TAKE BACK WHAT YOU SAID!"
"STOP RIGHT THERE YOUNG MANS" The principal screamed when he arrived there, looking at the situation seriously "Right now, break it up!"
Nearly all of the students jolted at his voice, all but Johnny as he sucker punched Bumper!
"AAAH! Why you!" Bumper shouted, kicking Johnny but his foot was caught!
"I'm not gonna let you think you can mess with me anymore!" Johnny said as he proceeds to literally bit onto his leg.
"AAAAH! YOU FREAK!" Bumper shouted, trying to shake Johnny off!
"Johnny!" Lila shouted in shock.
'He's even worse than I thought!' She thought in worry as Bumper he moved his leg to slam Johnny in some lockers.
Something Johnny used as he pulled Bumper closer before tackling him to the ground! He held Bumper down and began punching his face without mercy, breaking his nose and blackening his eyes as Johnny didn't seem to be stopping!
Their fight had become too much of a hassle though as the principal took matters into his own hands and grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed them with it like the burning fire that they were being.
"AAAAH!" They both groaned from the extinguishing foam.
"Break it up you too! This fight is over!" the Principal shouted at them.
Lila runs towards her son and gets on her knees before cupping his bruised face "Oh honey...what have you done?"
"He started it! Not me!" Johnny shouted, huffing in anger and exhaustion.
"And how exactly did Mr. Randalls start things, Mr. Test?" Principal Jules asked Johnny.
"Ugh, all I did was mention his dumb dog then he flipped out!" Bumper said, spitting out some blood.
"DUKEY IS NOT DUMB!" Johnny shouted as Lila held him back.
"While I do not conduct my child's behavior especially when I'm talking to another kid. Remember this Bumper, our dog has sadly passed away and it's not nice to say such mean things to someone who is in pain" Lila said, looking sharply at Bump as if she was going to hit him too but sighed "Let's go, Johnny, I think we need to talk more before going home"
"What? No! I'm fine!" Johnny said to her.
"You are not fine, Mr. Test! Not if you are prone to violence due to grieving!" Principal Jules said as he put the fire extinguisher back! "As of this moment, you and Mr. Randalls are suspended for 2 weeks! That should be plenty of time for you to grieve and move on!"
Lila looked saddened by how her son was acting and refused to see he was having a problem with his behavior and overall personality, so they just walked away in silence before his mom drove them away home in silence for a while.
'What do I say?' Lila thought, wanting to think of something to say to Johnny to at least ease the tension.
"Damn it...it's not fair," Johnny said, tears filling his eyes and clenching his fists till they turned white "Why did this happen?"
"Johnny," Lila said sadly.
"Why did Dukey have to die? He did nothing wrong! Why did he have to die?!" Johnny shouted, punching the door.
"It's not your fault dear...it was no one's fault, it was an accident," Lila said, remembering that day.
An accident that happened without anyone able to stop it, not even the genius intelligence of Susan and Mary.
"None of us could have anticipated it, and neither could you. Im sorry, I know nothing I say will bring him back but we are here to help you every step of the way"
"Nothing you guys can do will help. Nothing." Johnny said, turning away.
'Here it is. The moment of truth.' Lila thought 2 while taking a breath.
"Not even a business trip to Hawaii with me? I can bring a plus one and it's only a week, half of your suspension." She said with a sad smile.
Johnny looked at her weirdly when hearing this "H-Hawai?"
"Yeah! A very nice and tropical paradise that everyone wants to go to once or twice" Lila said with a smile.
"Well, I don't," Johnny said but Lila could tell he was lying to her and himself.
He just wanted to go home and lock himself in his room until he needed to leave for meals or the bathroom.
"Johnny, you know you don't mean that. Trust me, if you come with me, you'll have a wonderful time." Lila said to him, coming to a stop light.
"Wonderful how? Nothing has been wonderful anymore" Johnny said, sounding very emo.
"I know, but I think if you give it a chance, you can be happy again. It's…It's what DUKEY would've wanted." Lila said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"You don't- He would-" Johnny said as he stuttered, hating how RIGHT his mom was right now.
Dukey was not only Johnny's best friend and brother but also a guardian that always looked out for him. Trying to steer him to be better and NOT get into crazy antics all the time.
"Fine, I'll go. But I won't have fun." Johnny said to her.
'They all say that until they feel the sand on their toes' "Fine by me if you at least try" Lila thought to herself, seeing this as a small win in convincing her son to go.
The light turned green as Lila began driving again, heading home to share the good news with her husband and daughters. The plan's first phase was complete.
*Timeskip*
The way had come and the mother and son duo were all packed up for the trip.
"Have a great trip, Johnny!" Susan and Mary said, waving at their brother as he put his bag in the car.
"Be sure to try coconut milk. It's wonderful." Hugh said with a smile.
"Thanks, guys," Johnny replied, mustering a small smile. He appreciated their support, even though he still felt reluctant about the trip.
As they got into the car, Lila started the engine and began the journey to the airport. The atmosphere inside the vehicle was tense but filled with anticipation. Lila knew this trip could be a turning point for Johnny's healing process.
During the drive, Lila decided to break the silence. "Johnny, I know this has been really tough for you, and I can't pretend to understand exactly how you feel. Losing Dukey was heartbreaking for all of us. But sometimes, getting away from our usual surroundings can help us find a different perspective."
Johnny stared out the window, his thoughts drifting. "I just miss him so much, Mom. He was always there for me, no matter what. And now, he's gone."
Lila sighed, her voice filled with empathy. "I know, sweetie. And it's okay to miss him. But remember, Dukey wouldn't want you to be sad forever. He was always there to make you laugh and enjoy life. This trip, in a way, is like a tribute to him. A chance to honor his memory by finding some joy again."
Johnny remained quiet, contemplating his mother's words. The weight of his grief felt heavy, but deep down, he knew she was right. Dukey wouldn't want him to be consumed by sadness.
As they arrived at the airport, Lila parked the car and turned to face Johnny. "We're here, Johnny. It's time to embark on a new adventure, even if it feels difficult right now. Remember, you're not alone. We're in this together."
Johnny nodded, his eyes showing a mix of hesitation and determination. "Okay, Mom. I'll try."
Lila smiled warmly, her heart swelling with pride. She knew this trip might not magically fix everything, but it was a step forward—a step toward healing. "That's all I ask, Johnny. Let's go make some new memories."
They stepped out of the car, grabbed their bags, and headed towards the airport, ready to board the plane and begin their journey to Hawaii.

And maybe, just maybe, amidst the sun, sand, and new experiences, they would find a glimmer of happiness and a way to honor Dukey's memory. The tickets for the plane were first class, fitting to help Johnny truly move on as First Class was a wonderful experience on an 11-12 hour flight.
Lila and Johnny entered the airport, their excitement mingling with a touch of nervousness. As they approached the check-in counter, Lila handed over their passports and received their boarding passes. Seeing the "First Class" label on the tickets bought a small smile to Johnny's face.
They made their way through security, and soon enough, they found themselves in the luxurious First Class lounge. Lila could sense Johnny's apprehension slowly melting away as he took in the comfortable seating, elegant decor, and the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
"This is nice..." Johnny exclaimed, his voice showing surprise "I've never flown First Class before."
Lila grinned, delighted to see her son's spirits lifting. "Well, today is a special day, Johnny. And I thought, why not make it even more memorable? We deserve a little pampering."
They settled into the plush seats, sipping on refreshing beverages and enjoying the delectable snacks laid out before them. Johnny let out a large sigh of relief as he leaned back, relaxing as he slowly shut his eyes.
'He finally slept,' Lila said as she looked at her son, thinking that for now at least he would have a sound sleep.
'Dukey's death hadn't allowed Johnny to sleep right for months, this could be a great start to healing.' She thought, reaching into her purse to put some ear muffs on Johnny so he could sleep without any noise waking him up.

Lila and Johnny's flight landed smoothly at the bustling Honolulu International Airport in Hawaii. As they disembarked from the aircraft, a gentle breeze greeted them, carrying the fragrance of tropical flowers and the distant sound of crashing waves. The warm, tropical climate instantly enveloped them, filling the air with a sense of tranquility and adventure.

"So, where to first, mom?" Johnny asked, still smiling a tiny bit. "The hotel or do you want to sight see first?"
"Hmmmm, why don't you decide first, Johnny?" Lilia asked, smiling happily at him.
"I never came here though so I dont know of the activities, maybe we can try drinking and eating something nice while at the beach?"
"Hmmm, that does sound nice but first, let's drop off our luggage at our hotel." Lila said, nodding to Johnny's idea. "We'll change into our swimsuits too."
Johnny nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a plan, Mom. Let's head to the hotel first and freshen up before we hit the beach."
They made their way to the designated hotel shuttle area outside the airport. A friendly driver helped them load their luggage into the shuttle, and they hopped inside. The short ride to the hotel gave them a glimpse of the scenic beauty that surrounded them—the turquoise waters, golden beaches, and swaying palm trees.
Arriving at their hotel, they were greeted by the friendly staff and a refreshing tropical drink. The receptionist handed them their room keys and provided them with information about the hotel amenities and nearby attractions.
Lila and Johnny made their way to their room, which offered a stunning view of the ocean from the balcony. They quickly changed into their swimsuits, grabbed their beach essentials, and headed down to the hotel's private beach area.

"Yeah...i think it is." Johnny said with a soft smile before hearing barking, looking to the side to see a random child playing with their dog.
'Dukey...he would've loved this.' He thought, becoming sad again at the thought of his dead friend.
Lila noticed Johnny's change in mood and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. She understood his pain and the memories that resurfaced "I'm here for you, Johnny"
They sat quietly for a moment, Lila reached into her bag and pulled out a small photo of Dukey, taken during one of their adventures together 'He'll always be a part of our lives, no matter where we go'
Johnny saw the picture and smiled, remembering the wonderful time from that adventure. It gave him the pick me up he needed to stand up on his feet.
"Well...let's drink something out of a coconut with a tiny umbrella on it then!"
Lila giggled at the familiar enthusiasm as she nodded and got up too.
"Something nonalcoholic for you." she said, looking around for a drink hunt.
Lila scanned the beach for a refreshment stand or beachside bar that offered non-alcoholic beverages. A vibrant tiki hut caught her eye, adorned with tropical decorations and an assortment of colorful drinks displayed on the counter. She led Johnny in that direction, the sound of lively music guiding their way.
As they approached the tiki hut, a friendly bartender greeted them with a warm smile. Lila asked for a couple of non-alcoholic drinks, explaining that they were looking for something refreshing and fruity to enjoy by the beach. The bartender nodded and skillfully prepared two coconut-shaped cups, adorned with tiny umbrellas.
He filled the cups with a tropical blend of fresh pineapple, coconut water, and a splash of lime juice. To add an extra touch of paradise, he garnished the drinks with slices of fresh pineapple and a sprig of mint.
"Oooh so exotic" She said, excited.
Lila and Johnny thanked the bartender and took their drinks to a nearby beachside table, complete with an umbrella for shade. They settled in, savoring the sweet aroma and the vibrant colors of their beverages.

"Cheers, Johnny," Lila said, raising her cup

"Aaaaaaah." Johnny said in relief, finding the drink incredibly tasty and refreshing.
As Lila and Johnny enjoyed their drinks, their attention was drawn to the sound of soft music coming from the hotel lounge. Curiosity piqued, they turned their heads to see a group of hula girls gracefully entering the area for a show.
They were dressed in vibrant, flowing hula skirts adorned with colorful flowers, the hula girls exuded an air of elegance and beauty. Their movements were fluid and synchronised, their hips swaying in perfect harmony with the rhythmic beat of the music, showcasing their impeccable dance skills. Their long, flowing hair was adorned with delicate flowers, accentuating their natural beauty. Their skin, sun-kissed by the Hawaiian sun, had a healthy glow that added to their allure.
Lila and Johnny were captivated by the mesmerizing performance. They watched in awe as the hula girls effortlessly moved across the stage, their movements conveying a sense of joy and serenity. The combination of their stunning appearance and their skillful dancing created a truly enchanting experience.
"Wow..." Johnny said, following their movements with his eyes.
"Yeah, I've never known hula dancing was even more measured in person." Lila said.
Those specific Hula girls though we're not just good at dancing, their assets were also top notch as their large and ample breasts being held in by the coconuts, sway amazingly well left and right, and their hips were wide and thick, moving in a way that made it impossible not to look.
Especially for the men and teenagers of the beach, Johnny especially.
As he watched, a tingling sensation coursed through his body, a sensation he had never experienced before. His heart began to race, and he felt a strange warmth spreading through his cheeks. Johnny's hormones were awakening, introducing him to a whole new world of feelings and emotions. His gaze fixated on the hula girls' alluring movements, their fluid motions teasing his senses, the body responded to these new sensations.
That was something Lilia seemed to notice as Johnny's drink was slowly slipping out of his hand.
"Johnny? Are you alright?" she asked, quickly catching his drink before it hit the sand.
"Y-Yeah i'm alright I was just..." He clears his throat "Distracted"
"Distracted?" Lila asked as Johnny took his drink back and sipped it.
"Yeah, it's no big deal." Johnny said, blushing a bit as he tried to look away from the hula dancing.
Lila observed Johnny's behaviour with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. She had known him for a long time and could sense when something was on his mind. She couldn't help but find it endearing that the hula girls had such an impact on him.
She smiled knowingly and gently nudged him with her elbow. "Oh come on, Johnny. You can't fool me that easily. You're captivated by the hula girls. They are beautiful, I must admit."
Johnny's blush deepened, and he fidgeted with his drink. "Well, I mean, they're talented dancers, and their performance is amazing. It's hard not to be fascinated by them."
Lila giggled at his expression before seeing a hula dancer dancing towards them, becoming confused while Johnny just blushed more from the closer she got. She stopped before their table and held her hands out to Lila, gesturing to her to come with her.
"What? You want me to come up there?" Lila asked as the dancer nodded.
Lila hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. She glanced at Johnny, who seemed both intrigued and nervous about the situation. Lila took a deep breath, feeling a surge of excitement and decided to go along with it.
"Alright, why not?" She said with a smile, standing up from the table and following the hula dancer towards the stage. Johnny watched them go, his gaze fixed on Lila as she gracefully joined the hula girls.
As Lila joined the group on the stage, she was handed a hula skirt and a lei made of colorful flowers. The hula girls welcomed her with warm smiles and gestures of inclusion. "About what happened...at the beach." Johnny said, glancing at his mother.
"Y-Y-Yes? W-What about it?" Lila asked with a nervous smile.
"I know we can't really discuss about this right now in details but I wanted to say, thank you" He said, touching her hand "For trying really hard on helping me"
Suddenly, Lila felt at ease as his words were genuine and without any form of anger or resentment for what she did.
"Im...uhm...your welcome"
A part of her wanted to say sorry for what she did, to find some semblance of explanation to how it even happen in the first place, but Lila pushed those thoughts away for now, Johnny was feeling better and that's all that mattered even if it wasn't the way she hoped for in the first place.
"And mom?" Johnny asked again.
"Yes, Johnny?" Lila asked him.
"Um,…could we...do it again? Maybe?" Johnny asked, blushing as he looked back out the window.
Lila's jaw dropped at what he requested and for a moment she wanted to tell him that it would never happen again, but she failed to say those words.
"I...maybe on your birthday?" She said, blushing madly.
'What have I gotten myself into and why don't I hate it?' Lila thought her relationship with Johnny was never going to be the same.
