Chapter 2: Rise of the Turtles Pt 2
(Intro)
The Turtles and Karai still couldn't believe what they were looking at. "Whoa." They all said simultaneously. "So, that's the…" Leo started to ask. "The Mutagen that turned the 5 of us into what we are now." Donnie said. "I'm uncomfortable looking at that stuff." Mikey said, hugging himself. "Either way, this is huge, guys. Those robots who kidnapped those people are also connected to what happened 15 years ago." Karai said. "But how is that possible?" Venus asked. They looked at the van's driver. "You think he's a robot too?" Leo asked. "I'll check." Mikey said as he walked up to the driver and started pulling on his face. "Ow! My face!" The driver exclaimed. "Nope. He's just some guy." Mikey said.
"Okay. Let's get some answers." Raph said. He took the Mutagen canister, walked up to the driver and held him up. "Who are you and what's going on?" He demanded. "Name's Snake. And I got nothing to say to you hideous freaks." The driver, named Snake, said. "Well, that's because you don't know us yet." Raph said. He tossed Snake over to the others, and Donnie and Mikey held his arms. "You see, we were just regular people until we got hit with a little of this." Raph said, opening the canister. "What're you doing?!" Snake exclaimed. "Playing a little game I like to call Mutation Roulette. Now you could turn out handsome like me or you might end up disgusting and deformed." Raph explained. "So, you feel lucky?" He started to pour the Mutagen in front of Snake's face, making him nervous. "OKAY, OKAY! They call themselves the Kraang. They've been grabbing scientists from all over the city." Snake explained. "Well, that worked pretty well." Leo said. "Of course, it did. Would you wanna look deformed?" Raph asked. "What do they want with these scientists?" Karai questioned. "I don't know." Snake said. Raph threatened to pour the Mutagen again, making him even more scared. "All I know is that they're taking them out of the city tonight! But I don't know where!" Snake explained. "This is awesome! Those triplets' dad's a scientist, I'm a scientist. Oh, the youngest is so gonna like me!" Donnie exclaimed excitedly. "I don't think you're her type." Snake insulted. "Where are they now?" Leo asked.
Later, they were perched on a rooftop with Snake as their prisoner. Venus kept a close eye on him, making sure he doesn't try to escape. Leo looked through his spyglass and saw a helicopter pad with a chopper parked in the center. There were dozens of the identical men patrolling the pad. "How many can you see, Leo?" Mikey asked. "There's gotta be like 20 of them down there." Leo said. "Yeah. And that's just the ones we can see." Donnie said. "Then there's probably dozens more inside." Karai said. "Alright. An all-you-can-beat-buffet." Raph said, getting his sais ready. "We can't just rush in. We need a plan." Leo said. "Why?" Raph asked. "Think, you shell-brain. There are innocent lives at stake." Donnie said sternly. "Donnie's right, Raph. If we screw this up, they're all goners." Mikey said. "Then we won't screw it up." Raph said. Suddenly, Venus grunted. The others turned to see that she got knocked down. "Ow." She groaned, rubbing her head. "Snake!" Leo exclaimed. Snake laughed as he ran away. "Get him!" Karai ordered.
They chased Snake down a fire escape as he leapt into the street and disappeared when they followed. They decided to split up to try and catch him. Leo, Raph and Karai went one way while Donnie, Mikey and Venus went another way. Donnie, Mikey and Venus came to a wall. "Maybe he went over the wall." Donnie said. "How do we tell?" Mikey asked. "Boost me up. I'll check." Venus said. Donnie put his hands together and prepared to lift Venus over the wall. "Alley-oop!" He called, sending Venus over the wall. Suddenly, Venus started getting pummeled on the other side, making Donnie and Mikey cringe. "He's not over here!" Venus groaned.
Meanwhile, Leo, Raph and Karai ran into a small park. Leo gestured to the alley on his left. Snake was hiding behind a dumpster. Raph and Karai nodded, knowing what to do. "Oh, great. We let him get away." Leo lied. "Whoa, whoa. You and Karai are the leaders. That means you let him get away." Raph said. "That's not helping." Karai whispered. "I'm not trying to help." Raph whispered. "Okay, okay. You want us to lead? Fine. We go back to the lair, gear up and at midnight, we drive Snake's van right up to the gate. They'll think we're him and we'll cruise right in." Leo lied. "And then we bust some heads?" Raph asked. "And then we bust some heads." Leo said. "If that makes you happy." Karai said. "I love a happy ending." Raph said as they walked away. Snake smirked from his hiding place, having no idea that he was being played.
Later, as they returned to the lair, Donnie was busy constructing climbing claws for the others. "I know you're a little worried about me. I'm not gonna lie to you. We've never gone into a fight like this and I don't know what's gonna happen. But you don't have to worry. I will make it back. I love you, man." Raph said, talking to his pet box turtle, Spike, as he munched on his leaf. "You okay?" Mikey asked. "Yeah. I intend to keep my promise to Spike." Raph said. "I get it. I'm more nervous than you are." Mikey said. "I know, little bro. But we will make it back." Raph assured. Meanwhile, Venus was feeding her pet fish, Piebald. "I know. I'm scared about what's gonna happen out there. But I will come back to you, my little Piebald. I promise." She said, poking her finger in the bowl, letting Piebald gently nibble it.
Meanwhile, Leo and Karai were going over a plan in the dojo. "Hmm. What do you think, Leo?" Karai asked. "I think this plan is gonna work." Leo said. "Let's hope so." Karai said. "No plan ever survives contact with the enemy." Splinter said as he and Shen walked into the dojo. "Yoshi is right. It is how you react to the unexpected that will determine whether you and your siblings will succeed." Shen said. "Mother, Father, do you think we're ready for this?" Karai asked. "We just want to be sure that we know what we're doing." Leo said. "Leonardo, Miwa, we made you 2 the leaders for a reason." Splinter said. "And what is that reason?" Leo asked. "That is for you to discover on your own." Splinter said. "But there's so much riding on this. What if something goes wrong?" Karai asked. "Miwa, failure is a possibility every leader must face. It is something your father and I had to face in Japan during our final battle with our enemy, the Shredder." Shen explained. Splinter nodded, remembering that night all too well.
[Flashback]
"Years ago, Oroku Saki, as Shredder was called then had been my friend." Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki fought in Yoshi's original home in Japan. "But the love of a woman came between us." Tang Shen held her baby daughter, Miwa, in fear as she watched her husband fight his former friend. "He could not accept it and his jealousy turned outward in a vengeful attack." As they fought, Saki slashed a candlestick, starting a fire inside the house. "But while he could not defeat me that day, our world fell and crumbled that day." Yoshi and Shen were nearly crushed by their own burning home. But they made it out somehow. Saki walked away, thinking that his enemies were burned and buried alive. "The battle nearly took our lives, and we nearly lost you, Miwa."
[Flashback End]
Splinter sulked at those memories. "But that's our point, Sensei. You nearly lost everything." Leo said. "We lost many things, Leonardo. Our home. Our names. And nearly each other." Splinter said. "Be thankful that we still live and breathe, my love." Shen said, comforting her husband. The 2 touched noses before nuzzling their heads together. Karai started to tear up before joining in her parents' comfort. Leo was also saddened by the tale. "But we have gained many things as well. Like the 5 of you." Splinter said. "Yes. You 5 are the best thing that could've ever happened to our family." Shen said. "Don't worry. We can handle this." Leo assured. "As long as we're together." Karai said with a nod.
Meanwhile, in an underground bunker beneath the helicopter pad, the O'Neil family was held in a prison cell. "Hey! You can't keep us in here like this! We know our rights!" The oldest triplet, April, exclaimed as she pounded on the door. But the guards just ignored her. "I don't think they care about that, April." The father, Kirby, said. "Daddy's right. You've been at it for hours. They're not gonna let us go." The youngest, Elena, said. "But we can't just sit here. We have to do something." The middle triplet, Komet, said. "Like what?" Kirby asked. April smirked, thinking of a plan. "Oh! My stomach! The pain is unbearable!" She cried. One of the guards looked inside and saw her lying on the ground. He opened the cell as Kirby, Komet and Elena hid on both sides of the door. As Kirby tried to sneak up on him, the guard turned around and caught him. April, Komet and Elena jumped the guard and attacked him, but nothing they did didn't even phase him. He just forced them off and locked them back in. "Well, I guess we can just sit here." April said.
Meanwhile, after telling the Kraang about the false information, Snake stood guard outside the gate with a couple of sentries. "They'll be here any minute." He assured. "Kraang, are those who are coming to this place coming to this place?" One of the Kraang asked. "I lack that knowledge, Kraang. I will inquire of Kraang about that knowledge. Do you have the knowledge if those coming to this place are near this place, Kraang?" The second Kraang said. "They're TURTLES! Call them turtles! And a girl! 'Are the turtles and the girl here'!" Snake exclaimed in annoyance. "There are lights of a vehicle which contain that you wish to call us 'the turtles' and 'the girl' coming to this place which you wish us to call 'here'." A Kraang said. "What are you talking about?!" Snake exclaimed. Just then, he turned around and saw his van driving towards the gate at high speed. The Kraang and Snake all started firing at the van, but it wouldn't slow down. They all leapt out of the way before the van crashed into the gate and exploded. Snake landed in a field of weeds. But as he turned around, the Mutagen canister flew out of the explosion and spilled on him. He screamed in pain as the Mutagen started effecting his body, growing vines out of his body.
The Kraang inspected the van, but found no sign of the Turtles and Karai. "The ones coming to this place are not in the vehicle bringing them to this place." One of the Kraang said. "Then in what place are the ones called the turtles and the girl?" Another Kraang asked. Unknown to them, the Turtles and Karai were using their new climbing claws to climb the outer wall. "Wow. It's a good thing we used that van to distract them. I wouldn't want to fight a whole army like that." Mikey said. "We know, Mikey. But don't stop climbing now." Leo said. "Right." Mikey said as they successfully climbed over the wall.
Later, inside the underground bunker, as a patrol went by, the Turtles and Karai dropped in through the vents and took out a couple of passing guards before continuing. "Wow. I've never seen anything like this. They're using a metal alloy that I don't even recognize." Donnie said. "Gosh. A metal alloy even you don't know about. It boggles the mind." Raph said sarcastically. "Dude, you wanna talk metallurgy with me? Bring it." Donnie dared. "I don't, and-" Raph tried to say. "Guys! What part of being in an alien lair do you not understand?" Leo asked in annoyance as they continued. Just then, they came across another group of Kraang in their droids-like bodies. "Whoa. They really are alien robots." Donnie said in shock. "Mikey was right." Venus said. "I hate it when I'm right." Mikey said with worry. Just then, the Kraang noticed them and started blasting. The Turtles and Karai charged in and started to attack them. Mikey knocked one down with his nunchaku. Venus beat up another with her tonfas. Donnie smacked another one with his bō staff before throwing it. Raph knocked a couple more down and stabbed them in their robot heads with his sais. The 4 Turtles then watched as Leo and Karai took on the last 2 Kraang. As Karai dodged the blasts, she bounced off the wall and sliced off the Kraang's head. Leo blocked the blasts with his katanas, deflected one into the Kraang's robot eye and then sliced it in half. Just then, as the Turtles and Karai gathered around the robot, the brain alien popped out of the chasse, shrieking at them. But Mikey whacked it with his nunchaku, knocking it out.
"Whoa. That thing's been controlling the robot?" Venus asked in shock. "Yeah. It places itself inside the robot and takes control of it." Mikey said as he held up the little Kraang. "Fascinating. An alien brain creature that takes control of a robot body like a brain implant." Donnie said. Just then, the Kraang recovered and started biting on Mikey's arm. "Ow! Uh, what do we do with this one?" Mikey asked. "I say we take it with us." Donnie said. "Take it with us?! Are you crazy?!" Leo exclaimed in shock. "No. It could give me a chance to examine this Kraang brain alien to discover any faults and weaknesses. And plus, I think this Kraang might make a good pet." Donnie explained as he pulled the Kraang off Mikey's arm. "Okay. But how are we supposed to take it with us without it trying to squirm out of your arms?" Raph asked. "What about this?" Venus asked, holding up a plastic see-through container. "Where'd you get that?" Karai asked. "Found it in one of those crates." Venus said, gesturing to the open crates. "Perfect." Donnie said as he placed the Kraang inside the container and sealed it. The Kraang shrieked as it tried to reach out of the air holes with its tendrils.
Suddenly, an alarm went off, alerting more of the Kraang. The Turtles and Karai turned to see one of the other Kraang abandoned its robot body and hit an alert button before scampering off. "Oh, that's not good." Mikey said with worry. The shadows of the Kraang moved around the corner, revealing that they were coming. "Let's move." Leo said. "Move where?" Raph asked. "There's no way out of here." Venus said. But Donnie's attention was fixed on some power conduits on the ceiling. "I think those are power conduits." He said. "Oh, that's really interesting. Thanks for sharing, Donnie." Raph said sarcastically. "Meat-head, the conduits are all converging that way. Which means whatever's going on in that direction is IMPORTANT!" Donnie exclaimed. As he walked away, Leo and Karai gestured to follow him, which they did. Mikey followed timidly. "You just got spanked, man." Venus said as she followed her brothers and sister.
The Turtles and Karai followed the conduits. Suddenly, as they passed by the detention cells, Donnie found the cell holding the O'Neil family. "We found them." He said. As the O'Neil family stared in surprise, Donnie examined the locking mechanism from the door. Suddenly, the Kraang caught up to them and started blasting. "We'll hold them off! You pick the lock!" Leo exclaimed as he and the others drew their weapons and charged towards the Kraang. "Don't worry! I'll have you out of there in a second." Donnie assured. "Uh, thanks, Mr. Lizard thing." Elena said. "Turtle, actually. I'm Donatello." Donnie introduced. "Elena. Elena O'Neil. And these are my older siblings, April and Komet." Elena introduced. "Wow. Those are some interesting na-" Donnie tried to say until Leo bonked him on the head. "The lock, Donnie!" Leo exclaimed. "Oh, right. Sorry." Donnie said. He took off the panel and started fiddling with the wirings. Mikey leapt at a group of Kraang, whacked them with his nunchaku and knocked them down like bowling pins. Venus twirled her tonfa and started breakdancing. The Kraang looked at her in confusion until she started knocking them down one by one. "Who says you can't dance when you fight?" She asked as she continued.
Donnie continued trying to pick the lock. "Not to rush you, but HURRY UP!" Komet exclaimed. "Hey! You think it's easy trying to pick a lock with these hands?" Donnie asked in annoyance. "Oh. Sorry." Komet said. Raph kicked down another Kraang and marched over to Donnie. "Oh, for the love of-! Get out of my way!" He exclaimed as shoved Donnie aside and started stabbing the lock with his sai. Just then, the back cell door opened, surprising the O'Neil family, and a few Kraang walked up to them. When Raph finally got the front cell door open, the Kraang already took them. "No!" April cried. Just then, more Kraang started blasting at the Turtles and Karai, making them run.
The Turtles and Karai ran out through the doors. "Get the door!" Leo exclaimed. Raph was about to close the door until he saw a Kraang reaching for him. He ripped the arm off, kicked the Kraang back in and locked the door with the arm. "That'll hold them." He said. The others looked at him in shock. "What?" He asked. "You are seriously twisted." Leo said. "Completely nuts." Karai added. "Thanks." Raph said. "No! Let us go!" April cried. The Turtles and Karai looked up to see the Kraang taking the O'Neil family to the helicopter. "Let's get them!" Leo exclaimed. But as they ran towards the landing pad, a freaky weed mutant stepped in their way. It had 6 arms, 2 of them with flytrap claws, its heart was beating from its neck and its legs were stuck together. "Uh oh." Mikey said with worry as the mutant shrieked at them.
"You did this to me! Now you're going to pay!" The mutant exclaimed with Snake's voice. "That voice." Karai said. "It's Snake. He mutated into a…giant weed." Leo said. Snake shrieked and snarled as he attempted to pull his legs apart. "Uh, I don't understand." Mikey said. "Get what?" Venus asked. "I thought because of his name, he would've mutated into a snake. Why into a weed?" Mikey asked. "Oh. I think that's because he jumped into that weed patch when our van exploded. And when the Mutagen we left in there hit him, he mutated into this…weed." Venus explained. "Oh. That makes sense." Mikey said. Snake finally managed to split his legs apart. "I'll crush you, Turtles." He snarled. "Uh, would it help if we said it was an accident?" Donnie asked with hope. Snake shrieked as he snapped his claws. "So, I'll put you down for a no then?" Donnie said. Snake swung his left claw at the Turtles and Karai. But they ducked down to dodge it. Leo leapt up and sliced the claw off with his katana. "Ew! Don't let it touch me! Don't let it touch me!" Mikey cried he tried to get away from the purple goo that spewed out of the wound. But it landed on his leg. "Ew! It touched me! It touched me!" Suddenly, Snake's claw grew back, much to his interest. "It grew back? No fair!" Donnie exclaimed.
Just then, the helicopter started up as the O'Neils were being loaded on. "Donnie, Venus, go!" Leo exclaimed. As he put his hands together and gave them boost up to the pad, Donnie and Venus hurried towards the helicopter. Snake continued fighting the Turtles and Karai, swatting at them with his arms. Mikey, Leo and Karai sliced them with their blade, but they just grew back and swatted them. Raph came up from behind and scratched Snake's legs with his climbing claws. But he soon regretted it with disgust at the sight of the goo on his claws. Snake shrieked at him as he prepared to swat him with his right claw. But Raph caught the claw, pulled Snake down, stomped him on the head and flipped over him. But as he ran, Snake fired a tongue from his claw, snagged him and threw him at to his brothers and Karai. "Man, Snakeweed is so powerful." Mikey said. "Snakeweed?" Raph asked. "Just thought I'd give him a new name now that he's a mutant and all." Mikey explained. "It is rather fitting. Snakeweed." Raph said. "We just have to hold him off until Donnie and Venus get back." Leo said. Suddenly, the Kraang burst through the door and ran out. "While not getting shot at by alien robots." Leo said. "With brains." Mikey said. They prepared themselves as the Kraang and Snakeweed surrounded them.
Meanwhile, as Donnie and Venus climbed up to the landing pad, the helicopter was taking off. Donnie used his bō staff and pole-vaulted up to the helicopter, grabbing its leg. Venus leapt up with all her leg strength and grabbed Donnie's leg. They attempted to climb the helicopter's legs, but the Kraang tried to shake them off. But Donnie and Venus held on tight, determined to save the O'Neils.
Meanwhile, the others continued fighting the Kraang and Snakeweed. Leo, Karai and Mikey fight the Kraang while Raph sliced at Snakeweed's arms with his climbing claws. Just then, the Turtles and Karai leapt out of the way as the Kraang started firing on Snakeweed, who in return, swatted them, the Turtles and Karai. "What's the plan again, Chiefs?" Raph asked. "We're working on it!" Leo exclaimed. Suddenly, he was grabbed by Snakeweed's claw tongue. "Leo!" Karai cried. Just then, as Snakeweed held him up, Leo eyed the power conduits. "The power conduits!" He called as Snakeweed started swinging him around. "Are we really gonna start talking about that again?!" Raph exclaimed. "Perfect. Raph, Karai, Mikey!" Leo called before putting his katana in his mouth and started giving hand signals. Karai, Raph and Mikey nodded, knowing what the plan was. They charged towards Snakeweed, but split off to distract him. Leo sliced off the arm and escaped.
Meanwhile, as Donnie and Venus continued to hold on to the helicopter, one of the Kraang opened the door. "Oh, good! For a second there, I thought this was gonna be too easy!" Donnie exclaimed. "Isn't that what we were hoping for?" Venus asked. "Not now, Venus!" Donnie exclaimed. The Kraang started blasting at them. But Donnie managed to spin around, kick himself up and pierce the Kraang with a ninja star. Then he grabbed the Kraang and threw it out. "Nice move, Don!" Venus cheered. But then the Kraang started blasting again as it fell. Donnie and Venus dodged the blasts, but they hit the helicopter, making it shake out of control. April, Komet and Elena almost fell out, but they managed to grab on to the ledge. "Hold on! We're coming!" Donnie exclaimed. But the O'Neil Triplets lost their grip and fell. Donnie and Venus let go and drop down to the landing pad. Donnie caught April and Elena while Venus caught Komet, and they both managed to leap down to the ground safely. "Are you all okay?" Venus asked. "We're okay." Elena said. "Dad!" April said with worry as they watched the helicopter take off with Kirby.
Meanwhile, Snakeweed snarled as he attacked with his claws. But Raph, Karai and Mikey dodged them before turning to face the Kraang. Just then, they started making faces at them, taunting them. The Kraang started blasting at them. But they got out of the way, putting Snakeweed in the line of fire and backing him up towards the power generator that was connected to the power conduits. Leo got on top of the generator as Donnie, Venus and the O'Neil Triplets ran up. "What are they doing?! They're leading straight towards that power generator!" Donnie exclaimed. As Snakeweed got close enough, Leo held up a few ninja stars. "Wait! I think they're planning to have Snake cause an overload!" Venus exclaimed. "That's incredibly stupid! Or brilliant. Or…Or both." Donnie said. "Let's hope it's both." Venus said with hope. Leo hit Snakeweed with the ninja stars, making him turned around. "Hey, come and get me, Stinkweed!" Leo taunted. Snakeweed tried to swat him, but Leo dodged it and leapt onto his back. He then taunted the Kraang by slapping his behind. The Kraang started blasting, but Leo leapt out of the way as the blasts hit Snakeweed and the generator. Just then, the blasts caused the generator to overload. Snakeweed screamed in pain as he got electrocuted before the generator exploded.
The Turtles and Karai regrouped and prepared to escape with the O'Neil Triplets. But suddenly, more Kraang surrounded them and aimed their blasters at them. "Let's take them down!" Raph exclaimed, getting his sais out. "No, Raph! There's too many of them!" Leo exclaimed. "Well, I'd rather go down fighting than standing!" Raph exclaimed. Just then, as the Kraang got ready to fire their blasters, Elena tripped herself and fell on her butt, putting her hands on the ground. Suddenly, as she grew even more scared of the Kraang, her eyes started to glow pale yellow and the entire ground started to shake up. "EARTHQUAKE!" Donnie exclaimed. The earthquake caused the Kraang to fall to the ground. "Come on! Now's our chance!" Leo exclaimed. After Donnie helped Elena up as the earthquake ended, they all made their escape. As the Kraang recovered, they saw that the Turtles, Karai and the O'Neil Triplets were gone. All that was left was Snakeweed's smoking corpse. "Kraang, the ones in this place are not in this place that they were." One of the Kraang said. "The ones are called Turtles and Karai, Kraang. They are dangerous to what we are doing in this place and in other places." Another Kraang said. "Yes. I acknowledge that. The Turtles and Karai must be eliminated from all places." The first Kraang said as it smirked from its robot chasse.
Suddenly, as Snakeweed's body lay on the ground, covered in ash, the color around his heart started coming back as it started beating again, meaning that he was still alive.
Meanwhile, the Turtles and Karai brought the O'Neil Triplets to an apartment belonging to their aunt. "Are you 3 gonna be alright?" Donnie asked. "We guess. Our aunt says we can stay here as long as we want. But we won't feel better until we track down the creeps who took our dad." April said. "And make them pay." Komet said, clutching his fists. "Won't the police help?" Leo asked. "Funny thing. When you tell them your dad was kidnapped by alien brains in robot bodies, they don't take you all that seriously." Elena explained. "I hear that." Mikey said. "April, Komet, Elena, I promise you we will not rest until we find him." Donnie said. "We won't?" Raph asked. "No, we won't." Leo said as he and Karai nudged Raph. "Thanks. But this isn't your fight." Komet said. "Yes, it is. We'll do what we can to help." Venus assured, putting a comforting hand on Komet's arm. Komet smiled at this while Venus blushed. As the Turtles and Karai started to leave, Donnie and Venus stayed a minute to wave goodbye to the triplets, who waved back. Donnie and Venus leapt across the rooftops as the triplets watched them. As the O'Neil Triplets entered the apartment through the window, Komet looked back for a minute, thinking about Venus. A small blush crept onto his smiling face as he closed the window.
Later, after they returned to the lair, Leo and Karai knelt before Splinter and Shen. "We are impressed, Leonardo. You and Miwa have proven to be effective leaders under the most difficult of circumstances." Splinter said. "Truly, we are very proud of you both." Shen said. "Thank you, Sensei." Leo said. "Thanks, Mom." Karai said. "And I think we figured out why you made us leader and co-leader." Leo said. "Oh? And why is that?" Splinter asked curiously. "Because you sensed inside us a true warrior spirit that could forge us all into the heroes we are destined to become." Leo said. "That's kind of a mouthful, Leo." Karai said. "It is. But no." Splinter said. "No? Then why did you make us leader and co-leader?" Leo asked. "Because…you asked." Splinter said. "That's it?! But you seemed so certain you were right!" Leo exclaimed in confusion. "And I never asked to be co-leader, but you did seem certain you were right." Karai said. "As a leader and co-leader, you will both learn that there is no right and wrong. Only choices." Splinter explained. "And it's those choices that you make that will define your roles as leader and co-leader." Shen added. "So, you could've chosen any of us?" Leo asked. "Yes." Splinter said. "Even Mikey?" Karai asked. "Hmm, I'd have to second guess that choice." Splinter said.
"Oh! Leonardo, we have something for you." Shen said. "What is it?" Leo asked. Splinter and Shen looked at each other and nodded. Splinter reached into his robe and brought out a crystal tied to a string. "Whoa." Karai said in awe. "What is that?" Leo asked. "This crystal was given to me and Shen the day we lost our home." Splinter explained.
[Flashback]
A group of people stood before Yoshi and Shen after they saved them. "They rescued us from the fire the Shredder started during our final battle." The leader held out the crystal for Yoshi. "Their leader gave me the crystal, telling me that one day, the crystal will bring us everlasting peace." As Yoshi took the crystal, he stared at it, wondering what powers it held.
[Flashback End]
"And has it?" Leo asked. "No. It has not worked since we received it." Splinter said. "But we believe that you 2 and your siblings will be able to unlock its power and bring us everlasting peace." Shen said. "You really think so?" Karai asked. "We know so, Miwa." Splinter said. As the crystal was put around his neck, Leo looked at it, wondering how they could unlock whatever power it has. "Uh, guys? We got a problem! We made the news!" Mikey called with worry.
Later, everyone gathered in the living room as the news revealed the recent activity that happened. "A report of, get this, ninjas in New York. Don't believe me? After residents reported a disturbance, the police recovered this." Carlos Chiang O'Brien Gambe, the news man reported, showing a photo of one of the Turtles' ninja stars. "For Channel 6 News, this is Carlos Chiang O'Brien Gambe saying hyah!" "This is not good. I don't want to be famous!" Mikey exclaimed in a panic. "You must be more careful then. A ninja's most powerful weapon is the shadows." Splinter explained. "Yoshi is right. Being brought out into the sun is a dangerous thing." Shen said. "Relax, Sensei. It's one little news story. What's the worst that could happen?" Raph asked. "For those watching outside New York, more that you could imagine." Shen muttered with worry. Splinter heard his wife say this and took her paw in his hand with comfort.
Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Japan, a man, his wife and 2 ninja guards were watching the news about what happened right now. The man stared at the picture of the ninja star, recognizing the symbol on it. "So, my old enemies are alive and in New York, training their own army. At last, I can finish what I started so long ago." The man said, revealing to be Oroku Saki, the Shredder. "Shall we prepare your jet for departure, my love?" The wife asked. "Yes. Prepare my jet." Shredder said. As the wife and 2 guards left, Shredder put on his helmet and stood up from his throne. "I'm going to visit some old friends." He said sinisterly.
Well, how'd you like that? The Turtles and Karai learned about the plans of the alien robots, known as the Kraang, from their getaway driver, Snake. Together, they found where they were keeping the O'Neil Triplets, April, Komet and Elena, and their father, Kirby. But as they go to rescue them, things get further complicated when the Kraang get away with Kirby and Snake mutated into the giant weed mutant, Snakeweed. But together, the Turtles and Karai manage to defeat Snakeweed and rescue the O'Neil Triplets. But now, their existence is discovered by Splinter and Shen's old enemy, Oroku Saki, aka the Shredder.
