Mermaid Melody

Early one morning, Princess Melody and I were in the middle of an undersea adventure. We'd already explored all of Atlantica, its surrounding areas, and Eel-Ectric City. We tried to figure out where to go next.

"Thanks for hanging out with me today, Jermaine," she said.

We swam for a couple hours until we reached the remains of Morgana's old, icy lair. Large chunks of sharp ice still floated in the water alongside a few broken vials half-filled with green or purple liquid. There were also fish bones scattered about.

"I still can't believe I let her trick me like that," she said.

"It wasn't all your fault, Melody. You didn't know what she was up to," I said.

We returned to Atlantica. King Triton followed us up to the surface. He returned us to our human forms before leaving. She and I sat on the beach. We let the waves wash up against our feet, which felt refreshing. Ariel walked up to us. Melody ran up and hugged Ariel.

"Did you have fun on your adventure with Jermaine, Melody?" Ariel asked.

"Yes!" Melody said with a big smile.

"I take it you had fun too, Jermaine?" Ariel asked.

"Yeah, but we can't figure out what to do next," I said.

"I've got an idea. The three of us should take a picture together," Ariel said.

"I'm not too big on taking pictures, but I'll do it for the two of you," I said.

We went inside to get ready. The photographer came, took our picture, and left. Afterwards, Eric approached us.

"Jermaine, if you and Melody still wanna spend some time together, Ariel's gonna sing at a club called Enchantment Under the Sea later tonight," Eric said. "Why don't you and Melody go together?" he asked.

"Wouldn't that be awkward?" I asked.

"No, but it's fine if you don't wanna go," he said.

I looked over at Melody. There was a frown on her face. I mulled things over for a minute or two.

"Alright. I'll go to the club with Melody," I said.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!" Melody said as she hugged me.

Once night fell, the four of us went to the club. The place was packed. Melody and I found a table in the front row. I pulled her chair out for her before sitting down myself.

The lights dimmed. The curtains on the stage opened. The spotlight turned on and shone down on Ariel. She took a deep breath and performed a medley of familiar songs.

Melody grabbed me by the hand. We headed for the dance floor. I briefly looked away from her.

"Melody, I'm kinda nervous, and I'm not a good dancer," I said.

"It's okay for you to be nervous. Just follow my lead," she said.

She took one of my hands in hers and placed the other one on her hip. We swayed back and forth to the music. I even twirled her around.

Several months later, Melody and her family invited me to spend Christmas with them again. As we sat on the couch, I pulled out a small gift for Melody. I got her ocean-scented perfume. She spritzed a little bit in the air and smelled it.

"I love it, Jermaine. Thank you," she said as she hugged me.
