Chapter 3: A New Hero in Town
The following days were hard for the Parker family. The beloved Ben Parker, a beloved uncle and a beloved husband, had died in an unfair way: Because of a simple thief. Gil missed high school for a few days while Ben Parker's funeral was being prepared. Due to the financial situation of the family, they could only afford a simple funeral with few guests. Only Gil and May were present. Those minutes where they buried in Ben's coffin felt eternal. Obviously, the only relatives of his were crying at the funeral ceremony. They made him a tombstone, where May placed a bouquet of flowers in front of the grave.
"(sigh) That's not fair. Ben was a good man and he did not deserve this fate. Rest in peace, my love" Aunt May decided to hug Gil. The blue-haired boy was suffering, but he wanted to stay strong for his aunt. He let a few tears fall from his eyes, but he still maintained his posture. Without them noticing, some people approached them. It was a group of girls in black dresses. Gil saw them and couldn't believe who they were.
"Hi, Gil…..We came as soon as we realized... I'm very sorry for your uncle. I know you loved him very much…" The first one to talk with him was Molly Jane. Gil decided to approach and hug her tightly. She accepted the hug. She knew that her best friend needed moral support.
"And what are you doing here? I thought that... you would be busy" Gil noticed the other girls.
"You are also our friend, Gil. Even though we don't talk much" Deema Stacey answered with a tiny smile.
"My sincere condolences to you and to Mrs. May" Oona Allen said sadly.
"Molly's friends are our friends too. I wish you a lot of strength to overcome this" Zooli Hardy added. At that time, four more people arrived at the scene. One of them was a large orange fish in a lab coat. Two of them were teenage guppies in fancy black suits and the last one was an adult guppy in a black suit.
"Greeting, Gil and May…..I`m sorry for this tragedy….He was a good man" Grouper Connors said with sincerity.
"Thanks for coming, Doctor" May said, wiping her tears.
"Brother, I'm really sorry about what happened. Ben was a cool guy" Goby Osborn hugged Gil tightly.
"We will really miss him a lot….." Nonny Octavius comforted him.
"Thanks friends. You are the best" Gil gave them a tiny smile.
"Gil Parker…..(sigh)...I know this is a tough time for both of you. But you will see that in the end things will improve little by little. Listen, you're like a brother to Goby. You are like family...If you need anything, you can call me. I can help you with whatever you need" Norman Osborn commented. They both had a formal handshake.
"Thank you very much, Mr Osborn. You don't know how much it means to me and my aunt. The simple fact of having come here is enough for us" Gil said with a smile.
That day, they all decided to spend some charity time with the Parker family. They needed that time to mourn Uncle Ben's death. Even though that time was nice, it wasn't enough. Gil and his aunt returned home in silence. The teenager locked himself in his room to suffer in his loneliness. He cried in his room. Everything he held in at the funeral, he released in that room. May decided to leave him alone for a while, but she noticed that hours had passed. So she walked slowly into her room and the boy was still sobbing. He was sitting on the edge of the bed. She sat next to him without disturbing him.
"I….I….I really miss him, auntie…." Gil said sadly.
"(sigh) I know….I miss him too…." May answered with a low tone.
"May...I still can't stop thinking...In the last time I talked to him...He wanted to give me some great advice. He wanted to tell me something important. And I... And I was rude to him. I...I didn't want to…" Gil remembered when Ben tried to tell him something important, but Gil ignored him. May put her hand on his shoulder.
"You loved him, Gil. And he loved you too. He never doubted you. He knew that you will become a great good man. He thought you would do great things in life. And I know that you are not going to let him down" May gave him a confort smile. They both saw each other for a few seconds until she got up "I`ll prepare something to eat….Come when you want to eat…." May left him. Gil remained thoughtful at his aunt's words. So Ben never doubted what Gil would do. The blue-haired boy began to think that his new abilities and powers were a gift from fate. And he couldn't use them for his own benefit. When he did it for selfish reasons, he cost the life of a loved one. The boy decided to take out a suitcase that he had stored under the bed. He opened the suitcase and there was the costume that he used in wrestling. Also, the one he used to catch his uncle's killer. Gil looked carefully at the spider logo that the costume had on the chest. The boy remembered his uncle's advice.
"Never forget this: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility"
"Now I understand. Nobody else should suffer what I am suffering. My gift...must be used for the good of all. Alright let's do this" Gil said determinately.
Gil decided to get down to work again. He recognized that the suit he made first was not the best and he looked ridiculous. So young Parker decided to work on a new suit. One better. Gil applied what he learned about sewing to improve the design of the new suit. The boy made a suit where the main colors were red and blue. With white lines on the red parts. The white lines had the style of a spider web, horizontal and vertical stripes. His mask changed quite a bit. He made white eyes with black detail for the mask. After a lot of hard work, Gil managed to make his new superhero costume. It was a very classic design. The boy began to think about something very important. He needed to improve his fighting form, as well as a way to get around the city. Gil remembered the spider that was the suit's logo and thought of something curious about spiders. What if he could shoot cobwebs? Unfortunately, he did not have that power. But, what if there was a way to have stronger and more resistant webs and use them in combat and move around the city.
One day, Gil decided to visit a friend who worked at Oscorp Laboratories. Evidently, thanks to the influences of Norman and Goby, he had no problem getting in. He decided to make a curious request to a close friend.
"Let me see if I understand. Do you want me to lend you Oscorp technology for a...science project?" It was Nonny Octavius with his lab coat.

Gil decided to improve his parkour with his new web shooters. New York Bubble City is a place full of big buildings. So Gil wanted to use the web shooters so he could move better and get to crime scenes on time. The first practices were not very easy. That's why he practiced balancing in an old warehouse.
"Alright….Here I go!" Gil decided to shoot his web shooter to stick to the ceiling and began to sway a little "YooHoo! It works!" The boy was swinging until he collided with a wall "Ugh! I`m okay…."
The boy practiced a lot to learn to swing and change from net to net. After many falls, crashes and more, the guppy was ready. He improved his parkour and learned how to use the web shooter. Finally, the day has come, Spider-Guppy is born! The boy decided to put on his new suit and went to the tallest building in the city to finally make himself known to the public. Gil was on the roof of the building with his suit on without the mask. Obviously, no one noticed. The boy began to see the city from that great height. The boy was scared at first and swallowed hard.
"Very good Gil. Here we go. It's time... to take a leap of faith" Gil decided to put on the mask and finally, he was the Incredible Spider-Guppy. He took a deep breath and ran and jumped off the tallest building in the city. Many people were surprised to see the mysterious masked man
"What is that thing?!"
"He's going to kill himself!"
"(sigh) Come on, don't let me down!" Gil fired his web shooter at another building and it worked. The web stuck to the building and the masked hero began his classic swing through New York City Bubble. People were amazed to see the new masked man.
"Look at that! What's that!?"
"Mommy! Look at the sky!"
The new superhero has appeared! The Amazing Spider-Guppy has appeared. As the boy began to swing through town, he noticed something strange in a grocery store. Two armed subjects were robbing the store. One was using a pistol and the other was pointing his shotgun at the shop owner who was a poor old lady. The new hero decided to arrive immediately by swinging through the city using his webs.
"Hurry up, old lady! Put all the money in it!" The man with the shotgun said evilly. What the thief did not know is that Spider-Guppy appeared and caught his companion with his webs. The superhero shot a web at the thief's back and pulled him towards him quickly. The thief couldn't react in time and the boy knocked him out with a punch to the face. The masked man took the bag of money and returned it to the old woman without saying anything else. He just went swinging through town leaving the crime scene. The thieves were caught and ready to be arrested
"Newspaper News: Mysterious Masked Man Foils Robbery!"
One night, some policemen were chasing a stolen car. The robbers began to shoot at the police and because of the bursts of fire, the police lost sight of them. Finally, another patrol came to corner them, but they ran into a surprise. The car was caught in a giant spider web. The three thieves were stuck to the net like flies. The police were confused, but they decided to arrest him. That was the work of the mysterious masked vigilante.
"Auto theft stopped by Insane who throws nets!"
People were being interviewed on the street to find out the public's opinion about the mystery guppy.
"I don't know who the hell that thing is. I only know that if it is stopping the criminals ... It's fine for me" A lobster man commented.
"I know it's a person. I don't know if he is a man... Or could it be a woman?" A crab girl said with her three dogs.
"That guy shoots ropes from his hands and climbs like a spider!" An old lobster man said while he was reading his newspaper.
"Mysterious wall-crawler stops two jewel thieves"
"We believe that he is a fantasy madman who is arresting criminals. For now, we don't trust him" A police officer commented.
"I do not like it! He sucks!" A bothered crab said, crossing his arms.
"Don't move, miss! Give me everything!" A thief forced a lobster girl to give him her bag. At that moment, a spider web took the gun from him. The subject was confused until he found that two cobwebs were stuck on his shoulders and someone pulled them so that the subject was hanging in the air, waiting for the police to arrive. The girl retrieved the bag and noticed a strange note. A small piece of paper with something written: "Courtesy of your Friendly Neighbor: The Amazing Spider-Guppy!"
"Spider-Guppy stops muggers!"
"He is amazing! He stops bad guys with his ropes!" A little fish kid said excitedly.

"Who is Spider-Guppy?"
"Who is the Spider-Guppy? A criminal! He is a public menace! That lunatic is on the front page of the newspaper... Why?" That scream came from a very important guy. It was a big green fish and very grumpy. We're talking about Grumpfish Jameson, with a quirky toothbrush mustache, flat haircut, and a big cigar. He was the editor-in-chief of the great "Bubble Bugle" newspaper. He was in his office arguing with some of his colleagues.
"He's not a threat, sir. He is a hero. He is saving people. Besides, he is the big news of the moment" A brown fish explained it to the boss.
"He is definitely a criminal. He always appears where there is a crime. Also, why does he wear a mask? Why does he hide his face?" Grumpfish said with his bothered tone.
"The important thing is that this guy is making us rich! All copies of our newspaper were sold! EACH OF THEM! And all for the news of this wall-crawler!" A crab man added.
"Really? So I want that Spider-Guppy on the front page of tomorrow's paper!" Grumpfish ordered with a loud tone.
"But we have a problem. There are no decent photos of him. Our best photographers have not been able to take a good picture of him. And we must do it before the competition does" The brown fish said worriedly.

A new day arrived. Gil returned to his house, after a busy day as a student and now as a hero. He arrived tired after foiling a robbery as the heroic Spider-Guppy. He saw his Aunt May preparing a delicious meal.
"Hello, auntie! It's nice to come back home" Gil hugged her.
"Oh hi there, sweetie! I prepared a special dish for you. Hey, why did you take so long? You worried me" May put her hands on her waist.
"Oh well….I was with….my friends…" Gil said nervously. He was late because he stopped some criminals as Spider-Guppy.
"Next time let me know, darling. I'm going to bed to check some things. Good night Gil" She kissed his forehead. Gil was going to eat his delicious food until he noticed something. There's something his aunt hadn't told him. The boy noticed that there were many open envelopes on the table in the living room. The boy began to read them and feared the worst: Debts. Since Ben's death, things have gotten more difficult. Well, he was the one who brought the money to the house and May's pension was not enough. Gil was beginning to worry about her and their house.

All the time he spends chasing thieves, murderers, criminals of all kinds. The fight was strong against crime. Many people loved the new hero, others not so much. Gil knew that he had to take care of something very important: his secret identity. No one could figure out that he was the Amazing Spider-Guppy. So he didn't tell her about his new life as a hero. Not even his closest friends, least of all his aunt. She might worry too much. Spider-Guppy started fighting crime. However, he would not face simple thieves forever. Because very soon, he would begin to face a new kind of threat. A threat where he could no longer fight with ease. These future threats will make Gil have to better plan his methods and strategies. Very soon, Spider-Guppy would release fights with very powerful characters. He was approaching the uprising of Super Villains!
