Chapter 9: The Birth of Doctor Octopus
We have seen how some accidents have achieved good results such as the origin of the hero of New Bubble York: Spider-Guppy. But we've also seen accidents that cause a lot of pain and unfortunate results, like various antagonists in this story. However, this time, there will come a time when our hero will have to do something he doesn't want to do. Especially since someone from his closest circle would suffer the consequences because of him.
Several weeks have passed since the incident with The Lizard. Spider-Guppy was doing certain searches in the sewers and underground, but there was no trace of him. The authorities are also investigating him. But neither of them has achieved results. On top of that, Gil Parker had his social problems from that day on. His friends were beginning to doubt Gil's loyalty. If only he could tell them the truth, which would only cause them to be put in danger. But what was about to happen would drastically change the lives of our protagonists.
A special night had arrived. It was an important moment for a beloved character. Nonny Octavius would have the opportunity to shine in front of the press, the scientific community, in front of the CEOs of the Oscorp company, and of course, in front of her metaphorical father: Norman Osborn. In a conference room, many people had arrived for the event. Nonny was backstage, looking out at the crowd of people who would be watching and listening to her presentation. Obviously he was nervous. However, someone surprised him from behind.
"Let me guess, you feel nervous, don't you?"
"Huh?" He turned his gaze and saw his mentor with a calm smile "M-Mr. Osborn!"
"I know exactly how you feel. I felt like you in my first conference in front of important people. But don't worry, I know that the scientific community and the CEOs of Oscorp will love your project. I trust you and I know you will do great. It just shows who you really are...(sigh) I'm proud of you. You are like another son to me...Good luck, son" Norman touched his shoulder and he left him alone. Nonny was just silent, but he was feeling a little better. Unknowingly, another person secretly visited him a few seconds later.
"Hi, Nonny! Nice to see you before your presentation"
"Oh…Oona" Nonny said surprisedly. She giggled at bit.
"How do you feel?" She asked curiously.
"You must already imagine it. Nervous and even scared. It is a very important conference. Almost the whole city is going to see this. And the top scientists in town and top people from Oscorp are going to see me" Nonny told her.
"It is normal to feel this way. But I know you'll do great. You're the smartest guy I know and you're really gonna get it" Oona encouraged him.
"(sigh) I don't know Oona. If I really am the smartest guy...Why couldn't I cure Max...Or Connors?" He blamed himself. She was silent for some seconds.
"Nonny….I didn't want to tell you now but...That incident with Doctor Connors...I'm sorry to tell you that...I don't think you were wrong with the cure" Oona commented her idea.
"What are you talking about?" Nonny asked her.
"All our calculations that day were correct. It was hardly going to fail" She said.
"Oona...I'm not always going to be right. A scientific principle just happened to me: Trial and Error. Also, if you're implying that someone could have tampered with the formula, it's impossible. Because it was only you, me and... and..." Nonny widened his eyes in shock. The possibility that this third person may have altered the serum...were not nil. But before they continue talking.
"Nonny….Before you go, I wanted to tell you something very important that I should have told you a long time ago" Oona took his hand and her cheeks were pink. The boy blushed slightly until someone interrupted the moment.
"Nonny Octavius, you're going out soon. Get ready because they are almost going to call you" An assistant interrupted that romantic moment. They both parted with their cheeks flushed.
"Do you mind if you tell me when the conference is over?" Nonny said nervously.
"Of course! Good luck! Our friends will be supporting you!" Immediately, she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and left. Both teenagers went their ways, each one blushing at the little scene.
Meanwhile, in the front row, we can see the group of friends we know, who were there to support Nonny in the most important presentation of his life. Molly, Goby, Deema, Oona (who had just returned from meeting Nonny) and Zooli were in the front row thanks to Goby Osborn. A short time later, Gil arrived there. But he didn't come as a friend at all, he came as a Bubble Bugle photographer. While Deema and Zooli didn't want to say hello (because they hadn't forgiven him yet), Goby, Molly and Oona decided to go over to say hello.
"Oh, hi dude! I'm glad you came, even if you came only as a photographer" Goby admitted.
"Are you serious? I thought you hated me because of what happened with Connors" Gil asked a bit nervous.
"I admit that you did disappoint me that day...But...Come on! I can't be mad at my best friend forever. I'm not spiteful" Goby smiled at him.
"I'm not mad at you either, Gilly. I'm sure you were just scared. And I can't judge that. I was terrified when The Lizard tried to kill me...That yes (sigh) it was worth being in the arms of Spider-Guppy" She said with a loving tone of voice. Gil tried to hide his nervous smile and blush knowing that she liked Spider-Guppy a little.
"In my case, I do want to apologize to Gil. I got angry because Nonny felt guilty that he couldn't heal Connors. At that moment I thought that if Gil had helped things would be different...But that I will never know. And it's not fair for me to treat you like this...So, I´m sorry" Oona wasn't proud of her actions.
"It's alright Oona. Maybe escaping wasn't my best idea. But I think I cared a lot about my aunt" Gil said, trying to hide his true intentions.
"I imagined it. I just hope Deema and Zooli forgive you" Goby commented.
"I know they will in time" Molly added with security.
"Oh! The conference is about to start!" Oona interrupted.
They decided to go to their places to pay attention. It started with a short introduction. We will focus when Norman takes the floor to introduce his pupil and his project.
"Greetings to all present! It is an honor for me to have the presence of the scientific community, with the press, with the CEOs of Oscorp and all the other guests. Tonight is special, because we will show the progress of Oscorp's program for young scientists. With you, Oscorp's young prodigy, my metaphorical son: Nonny Octavius!" Norman introduced him to the rest of the audience. When the orange haired boy entered, there was a lot of applause.
"Nice, Nonny!" Goby shouted.
"YOO-HOO!" Deema added.
"Yeah, Nonny!" Gil said. Nonny walked past Norman. He simply gave the microphone to the young man. The boy with blue glasses was nervous until he took a deep breath and began to speak.
"Greetings to all. I am Nonny Octavius, a student of Oscorp's special program for gifted youth. I would like to present to you my biggest project so far. All this was achieved thanks to the financial support of Oscorp and its collaborators. My project seeks to facilitate tasks in the industrial sector for better performance in the most complicated tasks. The last time I tried to present this project it was interrupted by...some inconvenience. But thanks to that incident, I managed to perfect my project and it is in its last stage. It is ready to be presented to the world. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my project" Nonny finally showed what was hidden with curtains behind him. It was a powerful four tentacle-like robotic arms with mechanical claws at each end. All of them were attached to a harness that was placed on her back. The arms could move on their own.
"Wow!" Everybody were surprised.
"These arms were designed to perform complicated tasks. They are resistant to heat and magnetism" While saying that, Nonny placed his harness on his back. The device began to connect to the boy's body. A small artificial spine was attached to her back. It was a slightly painful process, but nothing alarming.
"Ugh! That must have hurt" Deema commented. When his arms were connected, the four tentacles began to move but this time at Nonny's will.
"My brain now controls my smart arms through a neural link. With nanowires connected directly to the cerebellum they allow me to control these arms to perform tasks that could not be done with my normal hands. They have greater strength and endurance" Nonny showed his new technological arms.
"Not bad, young Octavius. But I need to ask a question: If those arms have very advanced artificial intelligence, wouldn't you be vulnerable to that programming?" A female scientist, a member of the Oscorp CEO's wisely asked.
"That is an excellent question. And you are right. Therefore, I developed a brain chip that protects my brain. In this way, I control the arms, and they do not control me" The young Octavius showed the public a chip that he had in his back neck where at the end of that technological spine he had a control chip.
"That's my Nonny. Always thinking of everything" Oona said proudly.
"I must admit that's very clever of him" Gil confessed.
"And now, it's time to test the optimal performance of these new arms" Nonny used his new robotic arms at his own will. He wanted to perform tests of strength, stamina and accuracy...If it wasn't because someone abruptly interrupted the event.
BOOM!
An explosion in a wall was enough to disrupt the event and send the audience into a panic. Immediately, a lobster man in a rather peculiar outfit appeared. He had a yellow suit with brown details and his brown mask. Most importantly, his pincer hands had technological gloves that were spouting smoke. Possibly they were the weapons he used to destroy the wall. Security guards appeared to try to stop him, but the subject used his high-tech gloves to fire vibrating shock waves. Powerful enough to knock down guards and cause property damage. Gil took advantage of the chaos to escape and become a Spider-Guppy to stop the villain on duty.
"Wh..Who are you?" Nonny asked scaredly.
"That is not of you incumbency. I have come to steal your new toys. They're going to be worth a fortune on the black market" The masked man pointed his hands to Nonny. At that moment, some cobwebs managed to cover the barrel of the weapons
"Sorry, but those arms are not for sale!"
"Spider-Guppy!" The criminal screamed when he recognized the masked man.
"Shocker, huh? We met again. This time, you won't escape" Spider-Guppy said seriously.
"Oh! I see you still remember our previous fight. Too bad you didn't look so focused. Still, I'm not leaving without those technological arms" Shocker said with a smug tone of voice.
"You will have to pass over me!" Spider-Guppy commented.
"So be it!" Saying so, he first fired his vibrating wave cannons.
It seems that the battle began, Spider-Guppy vs. Shocker. It was evident that they had faced each other before. Well, Shocker was known for being a professional thief, mercenary and hitman. Spider boy couldn't stop him the first time because Shocker was very slippery and very professional, plus Gil hadn't been very focused since the Lizard incident. But this time, he would make sure Shocker didn't escape. Both of them fought hard, but we will focus on some characters who were trying to escape from the battle.
"Nonny, we have to get out of here now!" Norman said worriedly. Nonny wanted to leave, but he turned to see the battle of the hero against the villain. This time, the boy had an idea in his head "Let's go now!"
"No! This time, I can help Spider-Guppy! I finally have something that can help me fight villains. I couldn't help Max or Connors, I won't let Spider-Guppy down. He always helps us and we have never returned the favor" Nonny said bravely.
"It's very dangerous! Let's go!" Norman warned him. Nonny, in an attempt to redeem himself, decided to use his robotic arms to fight alongside Spider-Guppy. He managed to hit Shocker, saving the wall-crawler from a shock wave.
"Are you okay, Spider-Guppy?" Nonny asked him.
"Thanks, robot boy! But leave this in my hands. I will be able to beat him" Gil wanted his friend to leave the place. But something bad was about to happen.
"Stay out of this, kid!" Shocker did something horrible, he fired his vibration waves at Nonny.
"NO!" Spider-Guppy tried to save him, but couldn't make it in time. Nonny was shocked by the vibrations and was thrown violently against an electrical generator. The impact was so severe that the electric shocks began to cause him a lot of pain.
"AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!" Nonny screamed in pain as he received a brutal electric charge. The voltage level was so high that it managed to damage the brain chip that was helping him control his arms. Finally, Nonny fell to the ground unconscious.
"No! NOO!" Spider-Guppy screamed. His friend was on the ground seriously injured. Shocker wanted to take advantage of the fact that Spider-Guppy lowered his guard to finish him off with his waves. But he received a message through a device.
"You've accomplished your goal, Shocker. Withdraw now"
"But sir….I have Spider-Guppy in my sights. I can kill him now!" Shocker said bothered.
"Leave now. That's an order"
"(sigh) As you order, boss. After all, you are the one who pays me" Shocker said before he planned his escape.
"You won't get out of this unpunished, Shocker!" Spider-Guppy tried to capture him by force. He was angry.
"If I were you I wouldn't. You must decide: Catch me or save the boy. Decide!" Shocker pointed at Nonny´s body. For the first time, Spider-Guppy got carried away by his personal emotions and decided to help Nonny. Shocker just smiled and managed to get away without a problem. Immediately, the paramedics arrived and took Nonny for urgent emergencies.
We will focus on the hospital. Nonny's condition was delicate and she was in the emergency room as a red alert. In the waiting room we can see Norman Osborn and Nonny's friends: Molly, Goby, Deema, Oona and Zooli. All of them were worried about Nonny, especially Oona (because she was trying not to cry) A short time later, Gil arrived in silence. He felt headaches from the vibrations caused by Shocker.
"How is Nonny?" Gil asked quietly.
"He is very delicate. The doctors haven't left the ER since we got here. I hope that he is okay" Molly said sadly. She hugged Gil tight. He silently returned the hug. Nobody said a single word. Everyone was waiting for the news from the doctor. After hours, the doctor came out to tell them the news.
"How is he, doctor?" Norman was the one who dared to ask. The rest were quiet and wanted to hear the doctor.
"(sigh) I'm sorry, Mr. Osborn... but Nonny Octavius... has entered a coma" The doctor said the bad news. The rest gasped.
"H..H..HOW?!" Norman said, shocked by the news.
"His body was exposed to high voltage levels that reached his brain, and he also had that prosthetic arm on his back. I'm amazed at how he's still alive. But unfortunately, we cannot determine with certainty the type of coma he is suffering from" The doctor explained to him.
"B..B..But….There's a chance he'll wake up, right?" Goby tried to find a positive point.
"I regret to inform you that there is little chance that he will wake up. His brain is connected to those arms. It's best to cut off the robotic arms and remove the device, but it's risky because if we do, the brain may fail...and the boy will die. And the chances of extracting those arms...are very low. Sorry to say but...Your friend won't wake up again..." The doctor said seriously. Those were the words to break all hope. That was enough for Oona to break down in tears.
"NOOOO! NONNY!" Oona cried loudly. Deema was the one who tried to comfort her, but really, everyone started crying, be it a lot or a little. Goby simply hit a window glass and burst into tears. Gil went to him to comfort him, and still, Gil cried with him.
"I lost him, Gil! I lost...a brother…" Goby said with tears.
"I know….I lost a brother too….We lost him…" Gil patted his bag, even he cried too.
"Nonny….No…" Norman was very sad. He didn't cry to be strong for others, but he felt like he lost a son that day.
"IT'S NOT FAIR! IT'S NOT FAIR! SPIDER-GUPPY WAS SUPPOSED TO SAVE HIM LIKE ALWAYS DOES! NOOOOO!" Oona said loudly while she was crying. Those words were more painful for Gil. Because he is Spider-Guppy. He felt like he failed everyone. He felt guilty for not stopping Shocker in time. It was not a good day, neither for Gil Parker nor for Spider-Guppy.
The days passed slowly. They seemed like days of mourning, as if Nonny had died. But actually, it looks like he did die. Because the chances of waking up from that coma were almost nil. Sometimes his friends would visit him for a few days. But Oona visited him once every day without stopping. In her aching heart, she hoped to see him awake one day. Gil and Goby were hurt, they had lost their lifelong friend. It was as if they lost a brother. And Norman couldn't rest easy, as he lost a metaphorical son. The girls also felt the pain of losing a good friend. For some strange reason, the doctors began to prohibit visits until further notice. A few days after that notice, the doctors began to talk about Nonny's current condition.
"I hate to say it, but we all know he won't wake up" One doctor said seriously.
"The best thing we can do for him is…disconnect him" Another doctor proposed.
"We must communicate this to the patient's family immediately"
"We do not have time. We have strict orders to disconnect the boy now"
"That's not legal! It's like... !"
"Those are the orders. Alright, let's do it. First, let's cut those robot tentacles"
"I agree, those things give me goosebumps!"
"Me too!"
The doctors got down to work. It looked like they were going to do something unethical, but those were the orders. They brought a huge chainsaw to cut the first mechanical arm. What they did not imagine is that they would experience the worst nightmare of their lives. When they were going to cut the first one, the tentacles began to move by themselves.
"What the…?! AAAAAHHHHHH!"
The robot arms began to attack the doctors mercilessly. Whether it's hitting them, grabbing and throwing them and worse. The doctors were trying to stop the arms or save their lives, but the tentacles had more cynical programming and began to kill anyone who tried to cut off the arms. They started killing them and destroying the operating room. When the arms managed to finish everyone present, they began to get up and carrying Nonny's unconscious body, they began to look for a way out of the hospital. A few hours later, Nonny finally opened his eyes and realized that he was in a different place. He seemed to be in an abandoned warehouse far from the city.
"Huh? Where am I?" Nonny said to himself. But he notices something strange.
"Greetings, Master Nonny"
"W…What?! Wh…Who are you?" He asked scaredly.
"Don't worry, our lord. We are sure. You've finally opened your eyes"
"Something is wrong here...Oh no! The chip!" Nonny touched his neck and noticed something terrifying, the chip was broken. Those mysterious voices...were his robotic arms! Those voices were surely the product of Nonny's mind and their artificial intelligence.
"Master Nonny, you have finally arrived at the best version of yourself. Together we can do great things. All your wishes and desires may come true"
"What wishes are you talking about?" Nonny was starting to worry.
"Ultimately we are superior to all others. Aren't you sick of how everyone put you down? Like your parents, bullies, Dash...And at the same time...Like people like Norman only used you and loved you for your intellect. Don't you see? We don't need those ignoramuses. You have reached a higher level than everyone else. And together, we will unlock our true potential"
"No…No…Wait….What about my friends? What about Norman? What about my brothers Gil and Goby? What about Oona?" He was fighting against the evil programming of the arms.
"All your loved ones abandoned you! They all forgot you! Norman already found a replacement for you. After all, you were just a pawn to him. and Oona? She found a new guy better than you...or so she thinks. Don't you see? Nonny is dead. But...we can be reborn with a new identity...This time...You won't be the fearful one...now you will be the one who terrifies others...Do you like the idea?" Over time, we will see how the other characters try to assimilate Nonny's accident and the possibility that he may not wake up. At Oscorp, we see how two people are seriously arguing.
"How dare you? Are you going to give Nonny's personal lab to someone else?!" Goby was angry with his father.
"You must understand that it is not personal. They are professional decisions. And I know that this laboratory will be very useful for the next teenage scientist" Norman said quietly.
"And what if Nonny wakes up?" Goby asked again.
"You know perfectly well that this is almost impossible. Besides, even if he managed to wake up... he couldn't continue being a scientist. It is possible that if he wakes up he will suffer permanent brain damage. (sigh) Really...it's a big loss" Mr. Osborn explained his point of view.
"I see….I see what you do. You only see us as disposable pieces! Just like it happened to the Vulture! First him and now you do the same with Nonny!" Goby faced his father with anger.
"Son, be careful with your words. Things are not as you think" His father tried to explain.
"And what are you going to say? Now you surely see me as a piece of your twisted chess, and not as your son!" The teen boy said bothered.
"(sigh) I'm sorry you see things that way. Listen, I am one of the people most affected by the loss of Nonny. I not only lost a young ward, I lost a son. To me, you, Gil and Nonny are my children. But, there are several decisions that do not depend on me, but rather on the Oscorp executives. I know I'm the owner, but there are decisions and processes that I can't ignore...(sigh) Let's go to your school, I heard they're doing a tribute to him. And I want to be present. Come on, Goby" Saying this, father and son walked towards the exit without saying a word to each other. What they didn't know is that someone was eavesdropping on the entire conversation. They were mysterious robotic tentacles that could see and hear everything.
Meanwhile, we see how at New Bubble York High School it was not a normal day. And it was not a pleasant day, it was a day of mourning. A tribute to Nonny Octavius was being organized in the school gym. Well, he was a high school student before he joined Oscorp's special program. We can see how some students were helping to organize the event like the guppies we know. Gil, Molly, Goby, Deema and Zooli. Oona couldn't do much because she was still in her mourning stage. Her friends approached her to comfort her.
"We told you that you should have stayed home" Zooli said.
"I must be here. This is like... saying goodbye to him. For some reason we can't go back to the hospital... For sure... He doesn't…." Oona was about to cry again. Deema Stacey hugged her. The others did not wish to comment.
"Wow…..I didn't know what happened to Nonny...I...I'm so sorry" To their surprise, it was Dash Thompson.
"What are you doing here?" Molly asked him with a hash tone of voice.
"What do you think I'm doing here? Obviously I'm here because of the Nonny news... It's... very unfortunate" The captain said with a low tone.
"Oh, until now you feel sorry?! It seems you didn't mind when you bullied him all the time with your friends! You were one of the reasons why he left school! And you pretend to feel compassion?" Goby yelled the truth in his face. Everyone was surprised to see his friend with that tone of voice. Both boys looked into each other's eyes in silence.
"I'm not going to deny that I bullied him...But...I didn't wish him harm either. Even I have limits. And it REALLY hurts me to see what happened to him. Even I can show a little bit of empathy. Because I don't want an accident like this to happen to anyone. Look, the only thing I want to do today is respect the homage...it's...the least I can do" Dash explained his point of view.
"Is he really Dash?" Deema whispered Zooli. She just shrugged.
"Wow...it seems that...you speak the truth this time... You are not as jerk as I thought" Gil commented with a small smile.
"Tsk Tsk…It's just because of this special circumstance... Don't think you're safe from me. I still think you're a loser...but for today, you'll be fine. I don't feel like doing anything to you right now" The guppy bully just walked away. He didn't want to waste any more time with them. The group of friends did not know what to do. They simply decided to go take their seats. The event was about to start. At the beginning, the high school principal gave a few words to start. But the important thing is when the special guest went on stage. It was Norman Osborn who was invited to the ceremony.
"Today is a day of mourning in this city and in this community. We have lost a very valuable person. It's about Nonny Octavius. A young man who had a difficult childhood. With two careless parents, few friends, bullying schoolmates, and a tough financial situation, it was enough to make anyone unpleasant to society. But that was not the case with Nonny, thanks to his few faithful friends, and thanks to the fact that I met him, I was able to help him reach his greatest potential thanks to his above average intelligence for his age. He joined Oscorp's special program for gifted youth a few years ago. And in that time, he became a genius. He was not only my pupil, I began to see him as another son. And it hurt me to see with my eyes how he was a victim of evolved crime. And it was a shame to see how Spider-Guppy wasn't able to save him..." As the speech continued, those words were like a stab to the heart for Gil. Norman wasn't lying, he couldn't save the life of one of his best friends. Parker could feel the guilt of not saving him. He first came up with Grouper Connors, and now he would have to take the fall for not saving Nonny. The haired boy tried to hide those negative feelings "... I hope the person responsible is severely punished. We will never forget this boy. A great friend, a great brother for Goby, and a great son for me. Rest in peace, Nonny Octavius..." Everyone was moved by the words. Oona cried again. The other guppies were trying to hold on a bit. Goby simply didn't say anything but his tears ran down his cheeks. Obviously, Gil should be sad, but the weird thing is that he was more worried about something else. He felt a buzz in his head and a chill in his body. He only had one explanation: his spider instinct was activated. Which meant there's some threat nearby. His suspicions were confirmed when a loud crash was heard.

Something had destroyed part of the gym roof. They all started to freak out. Someone fell on stage, right behind Norman Osborn. It was a silhouette of a young guppy, but behind it appeared four robotic tentacles with claws moving in an intimidating fashion. As the smoke cleared, it revealed a guppy in a black shirt with a large brown trench coat and wearing dark glasses. But what surprised many was the orange hair. Many immediately identified him.
"Greetings to all"
"It just can't be! N..N..Nonny? I...Is that really you?" Norman was shocked.
"Hmm maybe….Surprised to see me, Norman. I don't see you very happy to see me... Why is it? Is it because you already found a replacement? I was always a puppet to you, wasn't I?" He asked with a sinister tone of voice.
"What are you talking about, Nonny? I would never do that. After all I've done for you!" Mr. Osborn was scared.
"Lies and more lies. First Adrian Toomes, then Grouper Connors, and now me. We were simply your puppets so that you would take the glory. But what do you think? It's time to bury my past...eliminating the people who made my life hell...I already started...with a double homicide this morning..." Nonny started to explain with a darker tone. Everyone felt nervous because the robot arms were in defensive mode, and one of them was cornering Norman.
"Double homicide?! Nonny, what horror have you committed?!" He started to sweat.
"The two inept who decided to father me. A drug-addicted mother and an abusive father...You know? My father thought he was very strong for hitting me and mom...but he wasn't strong enough to save his life from me" He made that cruel comment. One of his arms opened its claws at him in a terrifying way.
"N...No! You... you don't…" Norman tried to back away little by little.
"Save yourself the lecture, Norman" He simply grabbed Norman with one of his robot arms and threw him hard against the wall. Leaving him injured, but not seriously. Everyone wanted to run out of the gym, but Nonny used her arms to block the exit with large pieces of debris. There was no way out. Gil took advantage of the chaos to slip through the crowd and was the only person to make it out of the gym through another exit. He knew what he had to do.
"Nobody will get out of here. If no one does anything silly, everything will be fine. But...unfortunately some of you will die today...starting with...the people who hurt me...like you!" He used his four robot arms to capture four people. One of them was Dash along with three of his friends.
"Ahhhhhh! Leave us!" Dash screamed with fear.
"Oh Dash! I can finally see you scared. How does it feel to be afraid? How does it feel to be the victim, Dash Thompson? It seems that all the "games" you played me are no longer fun, right?" Nonny asked him evilly.
"Please! Let us go! I...I...I'M SORRY! FORGIVE ME, NONNY! I'M SORRY TO HAVE BOTHERED YOU SO LONG AND MADE YOU SO MANY PRANKS! FORGIVE ME!" He finally started to cry loudly. His reputation and pride were in tatters in this life and death situation.
"Hmmmmm…..do you really feel it? Oh! You're only saying that to save your miserable, pathetic life. It is understandable, in the last moments of someone's life, that person shows his true nature. And yours shows that deep down you're just a pathetic and cowardly person. Your mere existence is a nuisance to society...and I'm doing everyone a favor...if I kill you now" Nonny said that while his robot arms began to squeeze the people he was holding. His intention was to kill them. Dash and the others begged for his life, but he didn't show an ounce of compassion or empathy.
"Stop, Nonny! Do not do it!"
"Hmm?" In front of Nonny his friends appeared: Goby, Molly, Deema and Zooli. Oona couldn't do anything because she was shocked to see Nonny "back to life" but in a deranged state.
"Dude, don't do it! Let them go!" Goby shouted at him.
"Why should I do it? They are scum who deserve to die" Nonny asked coldly.
"Don't do something you'll regret later!" Molly tried to convince him.
"If you do, you will become someone much worse than Dash. And that Dash is already horrible" Deema commented.
"Hey! I can hear you!" Dash complained.
"Shut up! I can't stand your stupid voice!" Nonny knocked Dash and his friends to the ground. They were injured, but nothing serious. He approached his old friends with his new robot arms stalking them.
"You must stop this madness right now, Nonny! We can help you!" Zooli tried to convince him.
"Help me? I do not need help. I am finally the version of myself that I have always wanted to be. I am no longer a weak, shy, pathetic and submissive boy" Nonny smirked at them.
"Calm down, man! You scare everyone. That is not you!" Goby wanted to calm him down.
"You need help, Nonny. We are your friends and we will do what it takes to do it. Just let us help you" Molly commented.
"Please, Nonny!" Zooli added.
"UGHH! Nonny, Nonny, Nonny! ENOUGH! That boy is dead! NONNY NO LONGER EXISTS! Now call me by my new identity. Call me...Doctor...DOCTOR OCTOPUS!" He yelled ferociously before his robotic tentacles prepared their attack mode. Each claw pulled out a blade and they launched into the attack of the young guppies. Miraculously, someone appeared, swung on a spider web and kicked Nonny into a wall.
"An octopus on land... Now I've seen it all"
"Spider-Guppy!" Molly, Goby, Deema and Zooli shouted relieved. That attack was not enough because Nonny got up easily thanks to his tentacles.
"Tsk Tsk….Just the wall-crawler I was hoping for. You are also on my elimination list, spider. After finishing you off, Norman and all these pathetic students will be next" The ginger boy prepared his arms.
"I know you...You're the guy who helped me against Shocker...Did you...Did you survive? How?" Spider-Guppy asked surprisedly.
"I think you are talking with the wrong person. The boy who helped you died that day...but now...he came back under a new identity. That... Nonny Octavius died so Doctor Octopus could be born" Nonny explained his idea.
"I must assume that you are speaking in metaphors. It doesn't matter...I won't let you harm these people" He said heroically.
"Are you serious? I plan to kill people who deserve it" Young Octavius said.
"You do not determine who deserves to die or not. Nobody determines it. I don't want to do it but...I'll have to stop you...even if it's the hard way" Spider-Guppy said bravely.
"Tsk Tsk…. Then you will die" The young scientist said earlier that his robot arms would activate their offensive mode.
A long-awaited great battle had begun. Spider-Guppy vs Doctor Octopus! This time, the masked hero had a difficult battle, because his arms seem to have their own intelligence. They attacked Spider-Guppy fiercely and strategically. The now self-named Doctor Octopus moved around the gym looking for an opportunity to hit him with his arms, always with the intention of killing him. The spider boy used his agility and speed to dodge the complicated blows of the tentacles. That battle felt like he was fighting multiple people at the same time. Nonny ingeniously used his arms to land Spider-Guppy accurate hits.
"Ugh!" Spider-Guppy took an accurate hit.
"Spider Guppy!" Goby and his friends shouted worriedly.
"I don't know how the other villains had a hard time defeating you...This is very easy" Doctor Octopus said with a smirk. The masked hero tried to get up, but a tentacle coiled around him like a snake catching its prey. That way, he was at the mercy of the villain.
"Would you like to give me a timeout?" Spider-Guppy asked nervously.
"Sure I'll give you time out...but it will be permanent" The young scientist activated a blade in one of his robot arms to pierce through his opponent's body. Gil wanted to web him, but the robot tentacle had him incapacitated. His death would have been certain if someone hadn't thrown a rock at Octopus's head.
"Let him go!" Molly faced him bravely.
"As you said, girl" Doctor Octopus threw Spider-Guppy to the ground to cause him more pain. She gasped "Do you think...save him? Well...come, girl...Are you afraid?" Nonny began to approach her slowly with his arms ready to attack her. Despite her fear, Molly decided to stand strong and was in front of her friends. She didn't mind being a human shield if she saved her friends with it. When the arms were about to finish her off, the strong webbing loops stuck to Nonny's back and Spider-Guppy pulled him hard so that he fell on his back. And before he could react, he started shooting webs at the robot tentacles and then at the boy's face.
"Find yourself bigger prey, Doc Ock!" Spider-Guppy interrupted him.
"Grrrr!" Doc Ock ripped the web from his face with his hands and his arms managed to free themselves from the webs.
"Go for me!" Spider-Guppy started shooting webs at him to taunt his opponent. Doctor Octopus used his arms to block the attacks and he was closing in on him. The hero took advantage of that to leave the gym through one of the destroyed walls. And so, the nicknamed villain Doc Ock decided to go after him with ferocity. In this way, Spider-Guppy kept the supervillain away from the students.
"It just can't be! Nonny is now a supervillain and wants to take down Spider-Guppy!" Deema was shocked.
"He is not a villain! He... He... I... I know him well and I know that he doesn't…" Goby tried to find a logical explanation.
"You can't deny what we just saw. Nonny has changed...and for the worse" Zooli told him.
"It does not matter. Spider-Guppy is in trouble and we must do something to stop Nonny" Molly intervined immediately.
"How will we do it? You saw that he can finish us off easily. Even Spider-Guppy is having trouble. We can not do it" Deema asked her.
"We can't...but...She can" Molly thought about someone special who can stop him.
Meanwhile, Spider-Guppy was on the run through the New Bubble York High School campus as Doctor Octopus pursued him relentlessly. He used his robot arms to move quickly and fluidly. Said persecution caused destruction through the corridors of the secondary school. Some classrooms were damaged. Finally, the hero managed to leave the institute, taking the fight to the streets.
"Don't think about running away, Spider. I'm going to tear you member by member" Doctor Octopus said evilly.
"I would like to postpone my doctor's appointment to…never again" Spider-Guppy said funnily.
"Oh, Spider-Guppy! Joking as always. I hope you can keep telling bad jokes...when I cut your throat!" He decided to activate some blades of his robot arms that began to rotate like small saws that seek to kill him. This time, Spider-Guppy had to be about four times as careful as usual. He sought to directly attack the user, but the robotic artifacts possessed a mind of their own that managed to effectively protect the owner. Spider-Guppy dodged the saws with acrobat skills. The battle became more complicated and dangerous. At a critical point, Doc Ock managed to grab his opponent by the tail with one of his arms and began to slam him into the walls of nearby buildings and the asphalt. Gil struggled not to fall unconscious from so many blows. Finally, Doctor Octopus caught Spider-Guppy with one of those arms wrapping it around his body.
"You really have been a big bother to me, my dear arachnid friend...But the games end here...You know? I've always wanted to know who the person under the mask is. I'll find out when I tear your head off the rest of your body" The scientist was about to cut off our protagonist's head. As much as he struggled, the strength of the robot arm was superior. Everything seemed to end badly for him if it weren't for someone arriving on the scene in time.
"Nonny! Please stop this!"
"..." Doc Ock released his opponent and slowly approached the girl who called out to him. It was no one more and no one less than Oona.
"Nonny...I know you're still in there...You're not a bad person...I know" Oona said with a low tone.
"Hmmmm….Aren't you afraid of me? Don't you fear for your life... knowing that I can kill you if I wanted to?" Doctor Octopus said with a sinister tone of voice. But despite the threats, Oona was never intimidated. She didn't take her eyes from his, though she knew his robotic arms were stalking her.
"I know you won't do it. Because the Nonny I know is still in there at the bottom. Nonny...please...wake up...Because...I truly...I love you" Oona said that with some tears in her eyes. Her feelings were genuine. The problem was that young scientist did not show any emotion. It seemed that it no longer mattered to him. Her arms were ready to finish her off immediately. When her arms went to attack, she simply closed her eyes to take the blow. To everyone's surprise, she slowly opened her eyes and saw how the tentacles couldn't attack her even if they wanted to. She saw how the orange haired boy was constantly touching his head.
"Grrrr…N…N…No….Don't do anything to her!" Nonny talked with an agitated voice. The robot arms decided to face Nonny. They didn't look happy because they were making aggressive robotic sounds "You listen to me...Ugh...You...will only do what I order...Ugh"
"Huh? N..Nonny?" Oona asked with a low voice. She saw how her beloved spoke only with his arms. From there, she realized that there was something else to his drastic personality change.
"Ugh...Just...shut up! Get out of my head…" He began to shake his head as the tentacles continued to stalk their owner. No one knew but he still had a mental duel with the influences of his arms. Maybe it wasn't that late...at least we think so "Grrrrr…..I….I…I…"
"It's time to put you in your place, Doc Ock!" Spider-Guppy recovered and managed to use her webbing to tightly bind the mechanical arms. Obviously they wouldn't last long, but it was enough time for him to stick to the back of the scientist to deliver the final blow "(I´m sorry, Nonny)" Saying that in mind, Gil gives a hard blow to Nonny's back, right where the harness that held the arms was. Sparks flew and his arms began to fail.
"GRRRUUAAAAAAAGHHHHHH"
"Nooooo!" Oona gasped. Doctor Octopus writhed in pain until he fell to his knees and his arms fell to the ground unable to move anymore. It didn't take long for the police forces to arrive at the crime scene. Luckily for them, the arms were no longer working. Although it was impossible to remove the robot tentacles. Spider-Guppy was breathing heavily due to exhaustion and pain caused by the new supervillain's attacks.
"Ugh….Ugh….Finally….." Spider-Guppy said tiredly. He was ready to leave the scene until he saw a girl in front of him. She didn't look very happy.
"W..W..Why?! Because you did? He .. he needs help ... My help ... He is not a criminal ... He ..." Oona said, bothered but with tears.
"I'm sorry. The lives of many people were at risk because of him…..I had to do what was necessary..." He answered her.
"No…No….I….Everything is your fault! You were the one who caused his accident in the first place!" She shouted angrily. This time, the boy under the mask was silent. Well, he himself felt responsible for what happened to one of his best friends. He had no words at the time.
"(sigh) I´m sorry….I'm really sorry" It's all Spider-Guppy could say before retiring from the scene with his webs. Oona was just sobbing.
"I….I….I….I HATE YOU, SPIDER-GUPPY! I HATE YOU!"
Even though the day was saved by our hero, he didn't feel like a victory. Ultimately, he felt compelled to stop one of his best friends, who became the infamous Doc Ock. On top of that, Oona now couldn't forgive Spider-Guppy for not helping him. Great, yet another person who no longer considers Spider-Guppy a hero. In the next few days, Gil focused on giving his friends moral support, even though he needed it too. He just lost someone who was like a brother to him. In that time, he spent more time with Goby to support each other. They still had each other. Now, Spider-Guppy had one more mission: Find help for Nonny. Because he knew one thing: A part of him still lives inside the so-called Doctor Octopus. Well, he refused to kill Oona. It was a sign that he is still there. The hero just had to investigate that topic further. Every day, the life of a superhero is more complex than he expected.
Actually, it was a relatively sad chapter. Sooner or later, the transformation of our beloved Nonny was going to happen. The question will be: What repercussions will occur next?
