Chapter 28: Kraven's Last Hunt
The riots of the past few days finally calmed down and people were able to return to normal. The vast majority of the criminals who escaped were returned to prison. And the supervillains were locked up again. Finally, normal life returned to New Bubble York. However, these events left scars on its inhabitants and the entire city in general. Unfortunately, the marks were impossible to forget. And much less, by this news.
"Captain Stacy dies in the Gang War"
This news came as a shock to most of the city's inhabitants. Among them, Deema Stacey, his own daughter. Also, Spider-Guppy couldn't help but feel bad for not being able to do anything more to save him. The police officer died because of his massive internal bleeding caused by the explosive attacks caused by the Green Goblin. It was a great loss for the police force and for many of our protagonists. He was one of the few officers not influenced by acts of corruption and died in the line of duty.
After some solemn acts of respect at Captain Stacey's funeral, we can see the blonde guppy in her black dress visiting Oscorp Tower, home of her boyfriend. She found him at his new desk.
"Hi Deema...I...I'm so sorry. I know better than anyone how it feels to lose a parent" Goby tried to comfort her.
"Well, it seems you don't know. Because you didn't bother to get your shoes dirty and go with me to my dad's funeral. Literally all of our friends went: Molly, Gil, Oona, Zooli... Hell! Even Dash went! And what about you? You're supposed to be my boyfriend and you should have been with me" Deema confronted him.
"As if you're the only one here who just lost a father! I'm under a lot of pressure here. The board has control of OSCORP Industries until I come of age and take over the reins of Dad's company. That's what he left in his will. And in case you don't remember, it's not long before I come of legal age. So I'm under a lot of pressure right now and you're not helping!" Goby said bothered.
"Could you please feel some empathy for a minute?! This is not a good time and arguing is the last thing we need right now. Besides, you haven't been back to school since your father died" Deema said.
"Well, tell you what? I'm not going back to school. The council paid for extracurricular tutors for me so I could get a more advanced education than usual. I need to be competent for my father's position. Now, if it's not too much trouble, I have a lot to do" Goby said coldly. She couldn't believe her boyfriend's lack of understanding. She shed a few angry tears and turned her back on him.
"You're not much different from Norman!" Deema screamed before leaving angry and hurt. Goby could only sigh and continue with his business.
A few days of mourning passed in the city, not only for the death of Norman Osborn, but also for the death of Captain Stacey. They were not good days for the city. But the positive side is that the law managed to regain control of the city thanks to the efforts of the police and our masked hero. However, the gratitude of the police would last little when the time came to appoint the new police chief: A black-haired lobster man named Arnold Clayton. A man who looked strict. However, that was not the worrying thing, but the message he gave in the days following his conference as the new chief of the New Bubble York Police Department.
"As one of my first actions as Chief of Police of New York I have decided to make this important and key decision. For some it may be controversial, but it is necessary. As of today, Spider-Guppy is declared a public criminal due to being responsible for the death of billionaire businessman Norman Osborn. Security recordings confirm that Spider-Guppy confronted him when Norman was using his alter ego called Green Goblin. And this was the last time we saw him alive. Perhaps many consider him a hero, but we cannot allow someone to take justice into their own hands. And even less if it caused the death of a man. So I send this message to Spider-Guppy: Surrender peacefully and let yourself be judged like everyone else. You are not above the law. Otherwise, we will have to carry out an arrest operation. This is the message" Arnold said in his speech as the new police chief. That broadcast was on television and someone turned off the television in her own home. That was May Parker, who was watching television with her nephew Gil and his girlfriend Molly Jane Watson.
"(sigh) I can't believe this new police chief wants to catch Spider-Guppy now after everything he's done all over the city" Aunt May said.
"Yeah, I can't believe they actually blame him for Norman Osborn's death" Gil said, hiding that he himself knows what happened.
"Well, Norman was the Green Goblin, wasn't he? Besides, I don't think Spider-Guppy could possibly take a life, even from a bad guy. He's not that kind of hero. He's different and very inspiring" May commented.
"You are right, Mrs. Parker" Molly tried to be optimistic.
"Well, how about we liven up the atmosphere with one of my recipes: Baked Chicken?" May proposed them.
"Sounds wonderful. Do you need a hand in the kitchen?" Molly asked her.
"No, dear. Keep spending time with my nephew" She giggled.
"Please. I insist on helping you" Molly said funnily.
"Believe me, this is very common around here. I always want to help her and she always wants to do things alone" Gil added.
"I always try to do things myself so I don't become too dependent. Those were also my arguments with Ben. He also wanted to do everything by himself" She chuckled a bit, remembering her good times with her husband.
"It's okay. If you need anything, we're close by" Molly surrendered and she sat with her boyfriend who looked a bit sad "What happens?"
"(sigh)...The Green Goblin once told me: "In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually they will hate you" ...I think I now see that he wasn't so wrong. Now Spider-Guppy is a criminal wanted by the same police...and they framed me for Norman's death...It seems that no matter what you do for them, one small mistake is enough to make them forget all the good things you did for them" Gil was sad for this new situation.
"Gilly…Don't let this hit you hard. There are still people who consider you a hero. The people you saved, firefighters, police officers, they all tell stories about how grateful they are to you for saving their lives. Many may be panicking and afraid of what happened days ago, but soon the truth will come out... And that's where they'll need you more than ever... You are more important than you think you are" Molly comforted touching his cheek.
"Heh….You always know how to cheer me up, don't you?" Gil said with a smile before his girlfriend gave him a kiss on the cheek. Just when they both wanted to be more affectionate, they were interrupted by an emergency.
"WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO"
"Oh! Looks like they need help" Gil said, knowing he has to be Spider-Guppy.
"And what do I tell your aunt?" Molly asked.
"Tell her I went to the bathroom and I'm thinking of changing my look. I won't be long" The blue-haired guppy said.
"Hey…..be careful" She asked this because of the delicate situation with the police.
"I will" He quickly went to his room and changed into the masked hero and climbed out of his bedroom window, swinging straight towards the city where the emergency was located.
Spider-Guppy arrived at the crime scene of a robbery at a local business. There were three armed criminals. One was armed with a pistol, another with a shotgun, and the third with a machete. All three threatened the owner of the business and he was handing them cash. They were trying to get away fast. However, when they got out with the bag of money, they noticed that the vehicle was useless because it was covered in very strong spider webs.
"What?! Spider-Guppy is on site! We must get out of here!" One of the thiefs said worriedly.
"Wow wow! They say my name and I magically appear" Spider-Guppy was waiting for them on top of a lamp post.
"Finish him off!" The boss pulled out his pistol and started shooting at him and his partner with a shotgun helped him. Spider-Guppy dodged the shots and used his web to disarm the criminal with the shotgun and knocked him down with a few blows. He shot webs at the boss who had his gun and left him stuck to a wall. The last one pulled out his machete and planned to stab him from behind, but the latter used his agility and spider-sense to dodge it and was able to easily take him down with a few punches and a kick to the face. Finally, Spider-Guppy gathered them and tied them in his web for the arrival of the police. It was at that moment that several armored vehicles of the SWAT units arrived. SWAT officers arrived escorting Police Chief Arnold Clayton.
"Hello, Chief of Police. Nice to see you in person. These dangerous guys planned to rob a store and are ready to be arrested...Don't you think calling in the SWAT division was excessive for just a bunch of shoplifters?" Spider-Guppy said funnily. The criminals were arrested, but unfortunately, that was not the only purpose.
"You must be Spider-Guppy. I finally wanted to see you in person. I was hoping you heard my message. I assume you plan to surrender to the police peacefully" Arnold said seriously.
"I hope today isn't Fool's Day...because your joke was a success" The hero said funnily.
"Believe me, I wish it was a joke. Spider-Guppy, I'm not like George Stacey who let you do "justice" and "heroism." Things are different with me. Spider-Guppy, you're under arrest for the murder of Norman Osborn. Please turn yourself in peacefully or we'll have to use lethal force" Arnold ordered seriously and some SWAT officers readied their assault rifles and others readied their pistols and riot shields. It seems that this time, the law enforcement officers were going all out against Spider-Guppy.
"Come on, there must be a misunderstanding. Save the city from the threats of Big Man and the Green Goblin….and many more threats if I may say so" Spider-Guppy defended himself.
"You have always been above the law, but that will never happen again with me. You must be arrested, questioned and tried like the men you yourself captured. We will finally know who the person is under that mask. Do not resist arrest" Arnold said seriously. SWAT officers were slowly approaching to make the arrest. Spider-Guppy knew he couldn't accept the new police chief's terms. Expose his secret identity? Never!
"I cannot accept your conditions" Spider-Guppy began to plan his escape plan.
"Catch him, boys!" Arnold then ordered SWAT officers to rush in to arrest him. Spider-Guppy jumped on them and disarmed them.
"I can't attack the officers. That would tarnish my image and give them more reasons to arrest me" Spider-Guppy said before jumping and began to flee the scene, using his agility, speed and his webs.
"All units are allowed to use lethal force to capture Spider-Guppy! I want him dead or alive!" The police chief gave the order and SWAT officers prepared their vehicles and chased after Spider-Guppy. Some were able to shoot him with their assault rifles. The masked hero was only in charge of disarming them and trapping them with webs without causing them physical harm while fleeing from law enforcement.
"I need to lose them" Spider-Guppy said to himself as he ran away from the police. Things got complicated with the arrival of a police helicopter. In that flying vehicle was a sniper wearing his SWAT suit with dark glasses. This sniper had the hero in his sights and pulled the trigger.
"BANG!"
"AAAAGHGHHHH!" Spider-Guppy narrowly escaped having his arm pierced by a sniper rifle bullet, but suffered a severe scrape that left his arm scarred and bleeding, causing him to fall several meters high and Spider-Guppy managed to slow down his fall thanks to a slight swing, but fell to the ground due to his wound.
"I got it, boss!" The sniper SWAT agent reported.
"He's hurt! Arrest him!" Arnold ordered seriously. Armored vehicles and armed SWAT officers arrived, surrounding the perimeter where Spider-Guppy was injured. Our hero felt cornered. At that moment, the masked boy had an idea. He decided to break into a large clothing store that was nearby. This caused many SWAT officers to enter the department store. Spider-Guppy hid in a storage room and there he decided to take off his hero suit and used his civilian identity as Gil Parker to get out of that place without alerting the agents. He had to endure the pain of the scrape so as not to cause suspicion. He managed to get out of that store with his civilian identity while the SWAT officers carried out operations in the area.
"Sir, We captured Spider-Guppy!" One agent arrested another guy.
"Gentlemen, that's just a Spider-Guppy fan guy. Let him go and excuse the inconvenience" Arnold said when he noticed that they took a person by mistake and let him go.
"I think he camouflaged himself in the crowd: Another agent deduced.
"I know, idiot! Mmm I'll have to use other methods!" The Police Chief said seriously.
After having escaped by the skin of his teeth, Gil managed to get home and to avoid suspicion, he decided to climb the wall and enter through the window to return to his room so that it would match the excuse he had invented. Gil decided to return with May and Molly. Although both noticed the wound on his arm and they attended to it together.
"Could you tell me again how you got this cut on your arm?" His aunt asked.
"I tripped and cut myself on the edge of my closet…" Gil commented.
"Oh I'm so sorry, Gil. I'll go get some alcohol" May said before looking for something to treat her nephew's wound. Molly took the opportunity to ask her boyfriend the real reason for his injury.
"Hmmm I guess it was a graze from a criminal's bullet?" Molly asked him.
"(sigh) A police officer's bullet" Gil corrected her.
"What? Was it a stray bullet or a mistake?" She asked again.
"No, it seems that this new police chief was serious about wanting to capture the "spider menace", hehe that hurt" The blue-haired guppy said.
"I don't like the sound of this. You always help others and do what the police can't do. And now they think they should arrest you for doing the right thing?" Molly said disgustedly.
"Supposedly it's because I answer to no one and act "above the law" (sigh) I didn't think things would be much different without Captain Stacey" The hero said with some sadness.
"Hopefully everything will get better with time" Molly comforted him.
Shortly after, Spider-Guppy has limited his heroic actions in order to avoid being captured by the police officers led by Arnold Clayton. In addition, the news of the Bubble Bugle did not help improve our hero's reputation. Although Gil thought that he should rest from his role as a superhero while the waters calmed down, he could not leave the people who really needed him to their fate. In fact, that feeling of heroism would be what would lure him into a trap. One day, an emergency was received about a person trapped in a building with a gas leak, presenting the risk of fire or worse, explosion. Spider-Guppy quickly arrived, not caring if there were police waiting for him. That would not stop him from his duty.
"Hey! I'm here. Get out of wherever you are. It's not safe to be here. There's a gas leak here" Spider-Guppy called the person. He received no response. However, his spider sense was activated when he sensed a threat nearby. He managed to dodge a projectile that was shot at him from behind. It was an arrow launched from a crossbow.
"That was close, Spider-Guppy"
"Kraven!" Spider-Guppy said to the guy who appears with the crossbow in his hand.
"You fell right into the jaws of the predator, my dear arachnid friend" Kraven said with a smirk.
"I see. You prepared a bait and I just fell for it" Spider-Guppy deduced.
"That's right. You see, I don't take those duels you beat me in lightly. Let's just say this got personal. I thought that huge Lizard would be a nice piece for my trophy collection. But you know what? Spider-Guppy's head will be a more valuable trophy" The hunter took out two hunting knives to begin his fight against the spider.
"Great, you went from hunting mutant lizards to hunting guys in tights... Not my lucky day, huh?" Spider-Guppy decided to go into combat against Kraven the Hunter. Luckily for our hero, he already had experience fighting this villain and people stronger than him. However, Kravinoff was a difficult opponent despite being a person without powers, but highly trained in hand-to-hand combat, use of weapons and expert in hunting. Despite it being a complicated hand-to-hand duel, Spider-Guppy managed to maintain the advantage of the duel.
"Ughh! Ugh! You've always been a tough prey to hunt, Spider-Guppy" Kraven said, a bit tired.
"I don't know if I should feel flattered but..." Spider-Guppy said earlier that something bad was going to happen. Our hero let his guard down and heard something worrying.
BANG!
"AHHHHH!" Spider-Guppy felt his left arm being hit by a bullet. His instincts had kicked in, but our hero couldn't react in time.
"Hey, you're late! Besides, I already had it covered" Kraven complained.
"That's no way to thank a family member" A mysterious subject appeared and Spider-Guppy looked at him in surprise.
"C-C-Chief Arnold!" Spider-Guppy said surprisedly.
"Surprised, Spider-Guppy? Looks like I was always one step ahead of you. Luring you here with a false emergency alarm was beneficial after all" Chief Arnold said with an evil smirk.
"But...But why?" Spider-Guppy asked weakly.
"Well, it seems you've been playing my game this whole time" The police chief said before tearing off his face, just to show him that it was a fake mask all this time. Showing that he had a mysterious white face that looks like a mask "My name is Dmitri Smerdyakov, but you can call me "The Chameleon." I am a master of disguise and identity substitution. The real Armold Clayton is no more. I took his identity and harnessed its power to initiate a capture of you, tiring you out in the process so you would face my beloved stepbrother in weakened condition" He explained with his elegant russian tone of voice.
"So stepbrothers...Hmmm evil runs in the family I guess" Spider-Guppy commented.
"Grrr but you ruined the plan. Now with that shot, you left my prey weak...You make it easier" Kraven complained to his stepbrother.
"Don't complain, Kravinoff. Look, you cut off his head and display it as a trophy, and I'll impersonate Spider-Guppy. We both win, right?" Chameleon negotiated with his brother.
"If you're done with your sibling dramas, it's my turn to speak" Spider-Guppy made a maneuver to drive his brothers away from him with a few blows of his tail.
"I'll finish off Spider-Guppy myself!" Kraven prepared his hunting daggers again.
"If I don't kill him first" Chameleon prepared his revolver to shoot our hero.
"Two against one... If I could do six against one... I can do this" Spider-Guppy prepared himself.
Spider-Guppy vs. Kraven and Chameleon! This would not be an easy duel, because even though these two criminals do not have superpowers, they have high skills in hand-to-hand combat and the use of weapons. Kraven preferred hand-to-hand combat and the use of his hunting knives while Chameleon used his gun to try to hurt Spider-Guppy. Unfortunately, our hero had a notable disadvantage: The bullet in his left arm. So the masked boy could only use his other arm, his tail and the reliable use of his web shooters. The priority was to stop Chameleon first, since his ranged attacks were a nuisance and a high danger. Spider-Guppy made Kraven stick to a wall thanks to some webs on his hands. She did this to leave him temporarily immobilized and faced Chameleon. The guy had good fist combat skills, but Spider-Guppy surpassed him in physical strength and agility. So it was not hard to knock him down with a couple of strong blows. Kraven managed to free himself and tried to stab the masked boy in every way possible. However, thanks to strategy and some spider webs, they did the job to keep him at bay.
"Come on, Spider-Guppy... You can't handle both of us at the same time" Kraven said confidently.
"I'm not far from defeating them both. Besides, I think I did well to buy time" Spider-Guppy said before all of them heard some sirens from the police.
"What an inconvenience…." Kraven wanted to finish him quickly.
"Kravinoff, let's go... We have more important plans" The Chameleon ordered. His stepbrother accepted reluctantly "We will give you victory this time. But I want to make this clear to you. Just as I was able to fool you and the entire city, I can do it again. I am a master of disguise and impersonation... If I were you, I wouldn't trust anyone. See you soon, hero..." The Chameleon said before throwing a couple of smoke bombs to disappear with Kraven. Spider-Guppy launched himself into the smoke to try to stop them, but they had already fled.
"(sigh) It's not the first time my enemies have escaped...I'd better leave before the police arrive...And at the same time treat this bullet wound"
Our hero decided to leave the scene to avoid being caught by the police in case they still had orders from Arnold (or rather, Chameleon impersonating Arnold). He then arrived at his secret laboratory, where Molly came to help him with the bullet wound, since Gil had previously contacted her. In that laboratory, Molly had to clean the wound and hold back the urge to vomit if she wanted to get the bullet out.
"Yuck! Finally! Don't ask me for something like this again" Molly claimed after she managed to remove the bullet "You're lucky the bullet wasn't that deep. Otherwise, you would have had to go to the hospital"
"Well, I'm surprised you knew how to remove a bullet. You could be a nurse or a doctor" Gil flattered her.
"Thanks, but I'm only doing this for you. I was actually holding back the urge to vomit at the sight of a good amount of blood" Molly admitted.
"Ugh...I've been in worse situations...(sigh) Looks like Arnold was a villain after all...Well, at least Chameleon, we'll never know who the real Arnold was..." Gil commented.
"Well, the only good thing about this is that the Police Department found out about the impersonation and decided to remove your arrest warrant" Molly said, checking the latest news "What's wrong? You look like you lost? Well, a man unfortunately died, but you were able to clear your name and prevent more victims"
"I'm worried that Chameleon is still on the loose, and with Kraven on his side. This new guy has a talent for impersonating other people. He's so good that he even changes his voice, mannerisms, and personality. It means he could be anyone. I have a feeling this won't be the last we see of him" Spider-Guppy said with some uncertainty. He met a new supervillain who, despite not having powers, was a threat because he could impersonate anyone. Also, what are his true goals?
Oh wow. A chapter where we saw the consequences of past events. Perhaps Norman is preparing his ground to carry out his counterattack. What other consequences will we see?

PrimroseRaspberry: Hiya! The episode was definitely full of emotions. Some exciting, some not so much. I definitely found the jealousy scene funny and I liked the arrival of more allies. It seems that Norman is not ready to throw in the towel.

The problems don't stop. We will focus on Osborn Tower, where Goby lives. The remaining Osborn and heir of the company. We can see him in his room trying to fall asleep, but he couldn't. At that moment, he heard some footsteps.
"Huh?! Who's there? Oswald, is that you?" He asked. He thought it was one of his most loyal servants, however, he began to hear a maniacal laugh.
"HAHAHAHA!" Goby recognized that laugh. It was the Green Goblin's! But how?! He was dead, since he was his father. The boy got up and decided to follow the steps and the laughter. The trail led him to take the elevator and he noticed something peculiar. A button that marked an underground floor that he didn't know existed. He decided to touch it to follow the mysterious subject. After a tour, he arrived at the secret laboratory where Norman carried out his secret jobs as Big Man and as the Green Goblin.
"But what is this?" Goby was surprised.
"HAHAHA!"
"Who are you? Where are you? Show yourself!" Goby screamed with some fear.
"Here I am, my son" Surprisingly, Norman Osborn appeared in front of him in his ordinary suit and tie. He looked as if nothing serious had ever happened to him.
"F-F-Father…But you're supposed to be dead…" Goby was shocked.
"No, I'm alive in you, Goby...Now it's your turn...You swore that Spider-Guppy would pay for what he did to me...Make him pay...Make him suffer..." Norman said with evil.
"I….I….I I don't know…..Spider-Guppy...I hate him but...getting to finish him off...What would be the point if that doesn't bring you back?" The teen doubted his idea of revenge.
"You are weak...You always were weak...And you will stop being weak when you decide to take control. Do you want to be a better Osborn? Or do you want to live under your father's shadow? Will you let my death go unpunished because no one dares to bring justice to Spider-Guppy?! Do what the law dares not do to Spider-Guppy. AVENGE MEEEEEEE!" Norman screamed in anger.
"SHUT UP!" Goby screamed until he noticed his father had disappeared. However, he began to notice the details of the secret lab. Everything Norman worked on in secret was there. He noticed some prototypes and storage of the devices used by the Green Goblin: The Pumpkin Bombs, the spinning flying blades, the Green Goblin suit and his horrible mask, and of course, his infamous glider. Goby explored all of this until he discovered something interesting for him.
"Goblin Serum V 2.0"
"Hmmmm…..Grrrr…Spider-Guppy is going to pay for this!"
