Chapter 29: Path of Revenge
Hatred is a feeling of rejection and antipathy towards someone or something, which is characterized by wishing them harm and showing a sustained dislike over time. Hatred can be caused by anger, envy, resentment or disgust. It can be permanent and cold, and can target a person, group of people, animals or objects. And unfortunately, we see this deep feeling a lot in the world. And in one of the characters in this story. Goby Osborn, the son of billionaire Norman Osborn and childhood friend of Gil Parker, has entered a dark path. Driven by hatred towards Spider-Guppy for being responsible for the death of his father, he seeks to exercise his own justice and make him pay. The best definition of what he wants to do is to exercise revenge. Finding out that his father was the Green Goblin was no impediment to fulfilling his desire to kill the New Bubble York superhero.
For a long time, Goby began to train his own physical combat skills. And not only that. He took advantage of his father's technology and the remains of the artifacts used by the Green Goblin to create his own version. Modifying some of the previous villain's weapons and creating his own. In order to face the masked superhero, Goby decided to apply to himself the same formula of the "Goblin Serum" that his father used. But to avoid going "very crazy" like his father, he decided not to apply the serum completely and not directly. Instead of injecting the substance directly intravenously, he converted the new serum into inhalable gas to become stronger, more agile and resistant little by little. Without losing his sanity as happened to his father. But without knowing it, he would be a different person from now on.
His high school friends began to worry about his absence. Deema had explained to them that her boyfriend would not be returning to school, as he would receive personal classes in order to train himself earlier than usual to be able to be the head of Oscorp Industries. Despite that reason, his friends were worried. Especially Gil, because he knew Goby and knew that since his father's death, he had isolated himself from all the people close to him. In fact, that feeling of worry made Gil decide to go visit him at Oscorp Tower, Goby's residence. He was well received by the servants. Finally, he found his best friend in the personal office that belonged to Norman. Gil felt uneasy when he saw a huge painting of Norman Osborn next to his son that was behind the desk. There was Goby playing with a stress ball.
"Goby...we finally see each other...It's been a while since we saw each other or spent time together…" Gil greeted him.
"Until now I have your attention. I thought that all you cared about was Molly, your job and your aunt... Did I have to disappear to get your attention?" Goby said rudely.
"Don't say that. I care about you. You're my best friend. I just wanted to visit you to see how you were doing. Look, man... I know it's hard losing your father. I lost the person I considered a father. So I can understand your pain and suffering" The light blue-haired guppy tried to sympathize with his best friend.
"I doubt you know how I really feel. Knowing who the killer was and that he's still at large. He's unpunished. I thought Arnold would catch him, but he turned out to be a crook. Anyway, what would you do if you had your uncle's killer in your hands? Isn't it normal to want revenge?" The young Osborn asked him. Gil knew that perfectly well.
"(You have no idea, Goby. I had Uncle Ben's killer in my hands and I could have taken revenge...But it wasn't the right thing to do...I decided to turn him over to the police. And now...he's in prison)" Gil said all of this in his own mind. For Goby, it was just Gil's silence.
"Look, Gil. I have a lot of things on my mind and I'm still upset with you for failing me so many times. I'm not in the mood. Look, if you want my forgiveness, there's something you can do for me" Goby said seriously. That caused intrigue and curiosity in our protagonist.
"Friend, tell me what you need" Gil offered. His best friend squeezed his stress ball.
"Tell me... Tell me who is Spider-Guppy? Who is the boy under the mask?" Goby asked coldly.
"But what kind of question is that? I don't know" He defended himself.
"I thought that since you are the only one who takes exclusive photos of him I thought you would know something. You've known him for so long and you don't know who he is" Young Osborn said curiously.
"He is too secretive. He has never given me any clues as to who he might be" Gil lied.
"Gil, Spider-Guppy killed my father. I want justice, because the law turned its back on me. I need to know who he is!" Goby raised his tone of voice.
"What you want is revenge and that won't solve anything. I'm sorry, my friend... But I don't know who he is" Parker told him.
"It's a shame. You were the only person I could trust. If I find out you're covering for him, you'll face the consequences" Goby said seriously.
"That...Is that a threat?" Gil was surprised.
"I don't threaten, I guarantee...I'm not like my father" Goby said coldly. This worried our protagonist and he decided to leave with mixed feelings. He felt guilty for having defeated Green Goblin and not being able to do anything to avoid dying by his own hand. He began to notice how Goby was changing little by little. And everything would get worse.
Some time later, his friends decided to plan a little surprise for him. They thought they could cheer him up a bit. So Gil, Molly, Deema, Oona, Zooli and Dash planned a surprise for their friend. They brought a cake and drinks to cheer him up. They arrived by surprise at his office in the Oscorp Tower. When he saw them, instead of being happy, he got a little upset.
"Who let them in?" Goby asked rudely.
"I'm sorry, master. But since I saw that they were your friends, I let them pass" Oswald, his butler lobster answered him. He just sighed and his friends arrived.
"Oh hey, love...Look, I know you must be tired and sad from the past few months. That's why we came to cheer you up" Deema smiled at him. The next heir to the company looked at her and at the cake with some disdain.
"Hmpt…..What a poor way to try to cheer me up. You know the only thing I want to get in a good mood? Spider-Guppy's head!" Goby said with hate.
"Hey, calm down...I just want to help you. Everyone here wants to help you" Deema said defensively.
"And what help you're giving me. My father died because of a damn masked man who answers to no one!" The dark blue-haired guppy said bothered.
"You are not the only one. I remind you that my father also died that same day and it still hurts me. So I completely understand your pain. Just let me help you" The blonde guppy said sadly.
"You don't understand anything! Justice has turned its back on me and I have to be able to live up to my father and save this company. So stop saying things you don't understand!" Young Osborn shouted.
"Leave her alone! She just wants to help you and you turn your back on her" Molly defended her.
"You have no right to talk to me, Molly. You've pushed my best friend away and now you two are sharing secrets that you don't want to talk about with anyone else. How can I trust you or Gil?" Goby shouted.
"You're a pain, Osborn! Your friends want the best for you and look at what you do. You're just as cold as your father" Dash faced him.
"Goby...calm down please...You are better than your father...Just..." Gil wanted to calm him.
"I WILL NOT BE THE WEAK LINK OF THE OSBORNS! I AM NOT LIKE MY FATHER, I WILL BE BETTER! AND FOR THAT I DO NOT NEED YOU! THE ONLY THING I WANT IS MY REVENGE AND TO BE BETTER THAN MY FATHER" Goby screamed furiously.
"Do you want me to remind you who your father was? He was the Green Goblin!" Gil faced him.
"SHUT UP!" Goby, carried away by anger, punched Gil in the face. The blow hurt him, but not much thanks to his powers. But even so, he didn't respond to cover up his power. The others were in shock. Although the blow didn't hurt him physically, it hurt him more emotionally. Because that blow came from someone he considered a brother "Dad was a sick man because of the Green Goblin's disease. If your hero Spider-Guppy is so good, why didn't he find a way to cure him? Why did he have to kill him? Is that the hero this pathetic town admires so much? I used to admire him, but now he's just a murderer in my eyes...Oswald, escort them to the exit...And they won't be welcome here anymore!"
"As you command, master" Oswald said politely.
"Goby, listen…." Gil tried to talk with him.
"Goby…." Deema was about to cry.
"Get out of here!" Goby turned his back on them and two bodyguards appeared to escort them out. They decided not to resist and left voluntarily, but not without being dismissed with the cold, hateful look of Goby Osborn. The group left Oscorp Tower some time later.
"Goby….." The blonde guppy shed a few tears and Molly comforted her.
"But how ungrateful! We just wanted to know if he was okay, but he declined our offer" Dash said.
"I can't judge him. I hated Spider-Guppy for a while for not saving Nonny...So I can understand his pain" Oona commented.
"That doesn't give him a reason to treat his girlfriend and his own friends like garbage!" Zooli complained.
"You have a point there, Zooli. But I know him better than anyone. He's just hurt and broken. He was always held to high expectations and expected to be more than Norman. Add to that his current hatred of Spider-Guppy. (sigh) I think he needs time" Gil wanted to respect his decision even though his best friend treated him very badly and even hit him. But he knew what it was like to feel hatred for the person who killed a loved one. However, what they didn't know was that things were going to get worse.
The desire for revenge was what controlled Goby. The next few days he was preparing to meet Spider-Guppy in a duel to the death. That's why he trained his fighting skills, with weapons and the use of his father's old artifacts, and even the improved versions of said artifacts. He began to plan how he would attract the hero. That's how he came up with a plan. Taking advantage of our hero's sense of justice and responsibility, he could prepare a trap for him. And that's exactly what he planned.
On an ordinary day, an emergency broke out. It was an abandoned building that had caught fire in an unknown way. It wouldn't be a challenge for the firefighters if they hadn't detected the presence of a person trapped on the upper floors. It would be risky to send a squad because the trapped person was on very high floors and they didn't know if the building would collapse before the rescue. That's why Spider-Guppy arrived on the scene to rescue the trapped individual. In a few swings he managed to get in through one of the windows in the burning building. Where he entered there was no presence of fire, so the fire was on a few lower floors.
"Hello! Is anyone here? Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Guppy has come to the rescue!" The hero arrived heroically as we know. However, the boy noticed something strange. The only thing he could find was a rag doll dressed as a person with a tape recorder in its chest that only repeated cries for help. Spider-Guppy noticed that it was a hoax. But the real question was: Who did it and why? At that moment, he felt a vibration in his head: The spider sense. He managed to do a somersault to get away from the doll that turned out to have a bomb inside.
BOOM!
"Woah! That was close" Spider-Guppy said in surprise before another bomb sounded, but it was coming from the ceiling. At that moment, a mysterious figure appeared flying.
"I finally found you, Spider-Guppy" Descending from the destroyed roof appeared a mysterious individual. It was a guppy wearing a black combat suit with dark green details. It had black gloves with metal spikes on each arm. Its face was covered by a green mask with a black vision in its eyes. It was also flying on a hoverboard.
"Okay...You're someone new...But you remind me of someone...Did you copy the Green Goblin?" Spider-Guppy asked sarcastically.
"And you still have the nerve to dishonor him. Die!" The new guy threw two pumpkin bombs at him. Spider-Guppy dodged them because they exploded faster than the previous Green Goblin's.
"Pumpkin Bombs? Hoverboard? Are you the Green Goblin? Norman, is that you?!" Spider-Guppy was surprised.
"No, but I'm glad you still remember him. Call me "New Goblin". I'll finish what he started, you damned murderer" The new villain didn't even let him speak for long and threw flying blades at him to harm him. Spider-Guppy was able to dodge them all, except for one, leaving a cut on his arm.
"Ughh! What? Murderer? No, no, I didn't kill him" Spider-Guppy said surprisedly.
"Liar!" New Goblin decided to attack him hand to hand with his bare hands while his hoverboard threw bombs and missiles at him. Both began to fight hand to hand. Our hero was surprised by how good his new enemy was in physical combat. Unlike Green Goblin who depended more on bombs and his glider, New Goblin preferred to attack hand to hand and occasionally use bombs, his hoverboard and flying blades.
"Hey, you're pretty tough for just a Green Goblin knockoff" Our hero mocked a bit.
"On the contrary, Spider-Guppy. I am much better than him. You will pay dearly for what you did" The new Goblin took out a secret weapon. He took out a razor-sharp sword with technology. He made stances to be ready to fight him.
"Oooookay…..That's a new toy" Spider-Guppy admitted.
"You talk too much. Die!" The evil masked man attacked him seriously.
Spider-Guppy faces his new enemy: New Goblin. The guy was inspired by some of the Green Goblin's attacks, but he had his own original touches. That's why Spider-Guppy was able to dominate part of the fight at the beginning because he copied the previous villain. However, New Goblin was not as crazy and manic as Norman, he was more serious and attacked to kill. He used the sword and fists and kicks mainly. Spider-Guppy used spider webs, but New Goblin was prepared and cut them with his flying blades or with his fearsome sword. At one point, the new villain had enough and began to dodge all the hero's attacks and performed a brutal counterattack. To start it off, he did a dirty trick: He exploded a pumpkin bomb near his face to leave him stunned. The mask burned a little and luckily it didn't do him much damage because of the distance. But in that state, New Goblin hit him mercilessly with his fists and sword. Our hero fell in front of the New Goblin.
"Ughh….Ughhh…." Spider-Guppy was on his knees weakened.
"Ugghh...It took me longer than expected to subdue you, Spider. But the result is satisfactory. Still, I must finish the job" New Goblin said.
"I don't think so…." Spider-Guppy was about to shoot a web, but the masked man grabbed his wrist and squeezed it so hard that he broke the web shooter and left his hand in pain on the verge of breaking it "AAAAAGHH!"
"It's not so much fun when you're the loser, is it?" New Goblin kicked him in the face to knock him to the ground.
"AGH!"
"Unlike the Green Goblin, I'm not going to play with you. I'm looking to kill you outright. This is my revenge" The villain said seriously.
"Revenge?...cof cof….I don't even know you" Spider-Guppy said weakly.
"Never mind. Before I kill you, I want to see the true face of Norman Osborn's killer. That boy who pretended to be a hero" New Goblin grabbed him by the head and lifted him up ready to tear off his mask. At that, Spider-Guppy wanted to hit him in the chest, but he didn't notice anything suspicious.
"AAAGH!" The hero is shocked when he feels New Goblin stab him in the stomach with a short blade to weaken him and prevent him from defending himself.
"Nice try...But I don't want you to interfere when I find out who you really are..." New Goblin said evilly and finally did it. He ripped off the Spider-Guppy's mask to reveal his face. He was going to take his sword to stab him immediately. But when he saw Spider-Guppy's true identity, he was shocked and let go "G-G-G-Gil….G-G-Gil Parker…."
"Ughh….Ughhhh….Wait...do you know who I am?" Gil asked him.
"No….No….It's impossible" New Goblin took off his mask and revealed his true identity.
"N-N-N-No…..G-G-G-Goby!?" Gil said shockedly.
"So...All this time...You were Spider-Guppy..." Goby was surprised.
"Goby...what does all this mean?" The light blue-haired guppy asked him.
"Don't change the subject! That explains all the lies and deceptions. I can't believe it! All this time you were hiding this from me! I thought you could trust me. I thought I could trust you!" Goby screamed bothered.
"Goby, please understand. It was nothing personal. I didn't tell anyone because... I didn't want to expose myself or my loved ones... Including you... I just wanted to... protect you" Spider-Guppy tried to get up.
"You just wanted to protect yourself! I guess that's why you disappeared with Molly...She knows that too, right?" Goby said angrily.
"In her defense, I never told her. She found out on her own" Gil added.
"Do you know what all this means? You killed my father! You're a murderer! And you call yourself a hero!" Goby took the sword and moved it threateningly to challenge him to fight, although both kept their distance.
"You want to know the truth? He wanted to kill me! He did all this from the beginning. Your father was not only the Green Goblin, he was also the Big Man. He killed many innocent people. He simply died by his own hand when he tried to kill me" Gil explained it.
"Shut up! Just shut up! I'm supposed to believe you. You've lied to me for so long. How do I now know you're telling me the truth? And yes, maybe my father wasn't the best person in the world... But he was my dad! He was sick from that serum and you never helped him! You failed to help him, just like you failed to help Connors or Nonny! Everyone you love ends up paying!" Young Osborn yelled at him.
"Things are not as you think. Let me help you. I'm sure you're sick like your father... Did you also inject yourself with the goblin serum?" Spider-Guppy asked him.
"Gil, I'm not an idiot like my father. I consume the Goblin Serum in another way. Small doses in inhalable form. That's how I became stronger, more resistant... and smarter' Goby said evilly.
"You have to stop. If you are better than your father, prove it now and stop this madness" Gil said seriously.
"Sorry, man. You can't get away with your sin. I deserve some justice. You deserve judgment. You must pay for all the lives you ruined...(sigh) Listen carefully, Parker...When I'm done with you...I'll go for Molly Jane Watson. She was complicit in my father's death after all. And believe me, I will enjoy every agonizing minute of her last moments" New Goblin said with an evil smirk.
"Grrrr! Over my dead body, Green Goblin Jr!" Spider-Guppy shouted angrily.
"You'll pay for everything, Parker!"
The battle began again. Spider-Guppy vs. New Goblin! Or for others: Gil Parker vs. Goby Osborn! A fight we had never imagined until now. Both fought without masks and hand to hand. Spider-Guppy used his physical abilities and his only functional web shooter to defend himself from Norman Osborn's son. On the other hand, New Goblin planned to finish him off with his sword and some gadgets like throwing blades, pumpkin bombs and his still operational hoverboard. Both fought fiercely while the flames intensified and began to consume that room. Gil didn't want to kill him, just stop him. While Goby sought to kill him and make him pay.
"I don't want to hurt you, Goby. I don't want to fight you" Gil said while he was dodging his attacks.
"But I do. Die!" Goby continued to attack with his sword relentlessly. Both continued the fight. On one occasion, New Goblin prepared a stab with his sword. Our hero dodged it and the sword stuck in a wall, an opportunity that he used to use his web to leave the sword stuck to the wall and performed a kick in his chest as a counterattack. That made him finally disarmed. At least, his sword ... Because Goby threw flying blades at him and prepared another pumpkin bomb to finish him off. When he threw the bomb, Spider-Guppy used his web to catch the bomb and return it to him. That made the bomb explode near him and sent him flying. The explosion threw him abruptly out of the building, breaking the wall. Gil was going to save him, but noticed how Goby saved himself only using his hoverboard.
"This is as far as you go, spider!" Goby threw more pumpkin bombs, bombarding the abandoned building massively. The burning building plus the bombing caused the building to collapse and Spider-Guppy used the rubble in movements to avoid the explosions and the collapse. Spider-Guppy managed to get on Goby's hoverboard.
"Give up. Stop now…" Gil ordered him.
"Shut up!" New Goblin attacked him with a dagger he had prepared to stab him. But Gil was able to dodge them. However, this fight made neither of them pay attention to the direction the board was taking. That caused the board to crash into a concrete wall, exploding due to the explosives the flying board had. They both fell to the ground, but Gil used his only launcher to save himself and Goby. They both landed in an abandoned alley. They both simply fell to the ground, in pain and with injuries. They both just looked into each other's eyes panting.
"Ugh…..Ugh…..What are you waiting for? Why don't you finish me off...like you did with my father?" Goby asked angrily.
"(sigh) You're not like your father...You still have time to stop all this...You have to believe me...I never wanted him to die...I hope you believe me and discover the truth...(sigh) You're still my friend...my best friend...my brother..." Gil said tiredly as he covered the wound on his belly.
"Grrr…..I thought you were my brother... Now I see that you are not. You deceived me... You hid the truth from me... And you destroyed my father... Gil, I will not forgive you for this…." Goby slowly stood up and activated a device in his hand that made another hoverboard come. He slowly got on and prepared to leave "You were my brother...I trusted you...This is not over...Grrrr...I hate you, Gil...I HATE YOU!"
"Goby…..If you take that path...I will stop you...I will stop you like I did with Norman" Gil said quietly. We wanted to show bravery.
"This is just the beginning...I won't stop until you suffer the same as me. Don't forget that...I know you better than anyone...I know who you are, where you live, I know where you'll be...Soon you'll feel my pain...Until then, Spider-Guppy" In anger and pain, New Goblin fled the scene. Even though Spider-Guppy wanted to stop him now, he couldn't. Physically, he was hurt. And let's not even talk about his emotional state, he wasn't able to stop Goby, his best friend. That boy who was his best friend became his new enemy. This blow was hard. Goby knew his secret too. And he could attack him at any moment. Also, his feeling of revenge was deeper than other villains he faced in the past. But, that wasn't the worst. We're talking about someone who was once his friend and now hates him to death. Gil knew he had to prepare better and find a way to save Goby from himself. This fight felt like a defeat for Gil. One less friend, one more enemy.
Wow, what a chapter... I'll be honest, this chapter hurt me more than it hurt you. No matter what story it is, it always hurts me to see the guppies fight each other. It always hurts. The problem is: What will happen next? Will Goby realize the truth? Or will he become an evil being like his father? What will Gil do about it? Is Norman doing something secretly? We'll find out in the upcoming episodes, which by the way, we're close to the final chapters!

PrimroseRaspberry: Hi there! It was a chapter full of strong emotions. Chameleon's debut and his alliance with Kraven caused problems for our hero. Luckily, he was able to defeat both of them at the same time. However, Deema is not having a good time. The death of her father plus Goby's indifference only make the situation worse. It seems that we saw what Goby did and it only indicates the conflict of something bigger.
RainbowFoxy1987: Hello! Captain Stacey's death was a turning point for our hero and for the city. I consider The Chameleon to be a very underrated villain. He may not be the most powerful or strongest villain, but his intellect and talent for impersonating anyone makes him a high-risk villain. It seems that Goby began his dark path and did not take Spider-Guppy's secret well. Will he be a new threat like Norman or will he be able to reconsider in time?

Surprisingly, the battle between Spider-Guppy and New Goblin went a bit unnoticed. Let's just say that the media couldn't figure out who the villain was. However, someone was able to see the battle through a spy drone. Someone hidden in the secret laboratory saw everything.
"Well well...My son turned out not to be so useless after all" It was Norman Osborn who was still bedridden, relying on medical equipment and machines to live.
"Of course, Mr. Osborn...After all, you still have eyes inside Oscorp Industries" The female secretary who was serving Norman appeared.
"Okay. Scorpion and Shocker keep covering my tracks. And my son started fighting Spider-Guppy...Well, that'll keep him distracted...So, is the project ready?" Norman asked weakly.
"Yes, Mr. Osborn. We have obtained a test subject for the experiment. We have chosen a criminal who is sentenced to death. So if the experiment fails, it will not be a loss to society" The lobster smirked.
"Great job. Let's get started with Project Carnage" Norman smirked. He was preparing something for his greatest enemy Spider-Guppy and perhaps a key to his return.
