Hi everyone! I've gotten some reviews on my SamRobby stories so I was inspired to post one I started a few years back. I feel like if Sam and Robby were going to be the endgame couple, they would've gone with Daniel to Okinawa.
This story easily could be a long story and as I revise it I may be inspired to write more into their trip but this was intended to be a one shot (it's way longer now) but it focuses on their Miyagi-Do dynamic and what Robby's life is like living at the LaRusso's.
So it's a little fluffy sometimes, but I love SamRobby fluff.
(There is also one somewhat intimate scene in this chapter)
Enjoy!
"Robby be careful!" Sam screeches as he tries to flip a pancake in the frying pan. "This stuff only works in movies."
"Not for long..." he says and attempts to flip a perfectly rounded pancake. "One, two, three!" The pancake flips in the air and lands on the other side, folded in half though. "Hey, I mean I sorta did it!"
Sam leans against the counter and laughs. "I guess you did."
"Well look who's up early," Daniel announces, walking into the kitchen. "It's before 7:00."
The kids shrug. "I guess we've been training together so much that we've developed each other's sleep patterns too," Sam chuckles. "Oh and we've been matching clothes too."
"What?" Robby scoffs. "No way."
"Robby look at us," Sam motions. He's wearing a white tank top with gray sweats, she's wearing a white long sleeved shirt and gray leggings. "We're even both wearing black socks."
Robby looks down at his own outfit and couldn't help the chuckle on his breath. "I would say it's a coincidence because it's a common thing to wear..."
"But you can't cause it's too perfect," she teases.
"Yesterday you both wore blue," Daniel points out.
"How do you remember that?!" Robby gasps. "I didn't even remember what I wore to bed last night until she described it."
"YOU'RE WEARING WHAT YOU WORE TO BED LAST NIGHT!"
He stares at her for a moment, dumbfounded before hiding a smirk and pouring the next pancake.
Sam leans against the counter and rolls her eyes. "It's just funny how we've been coordinating. Even shoes–-like some days we both do sneakers or sandals when it used to be the opposite."
"That is true, I just always thought you followed what I did," Robby grins.
"Why would I follow you?" she teases.
He shrugs and flips a pancake. "Because I have a better style."
"Coming from the kid who wears leggings under shorts."
"Shush!" He shushes her. "They're an acquired taste."
"And those god awful slides."
"Don't mock the slides or i'll just ditch the converse and–"
"You know I think that is actually a thing," Daniel interruptes and sits down at the table. "I noticed that dynamic shift when Mr. Miyagi and I were in Okinawa."
"What? Mimicking each other?" Sam asks.
"Yes," Daniel nods.
"I don't mean to snoop or anything but I've been reading some of the books you have in the guest house about Okinawa. That place is insane," Robby smiles brigtly at his newfound knowledge. "I'd love to visit there one day, or you know, hear more stories about your time there."
"Me too! I was always so jealous of the pictures I saw of you when you and Mr. Miyagi went. It looks so gorgeous. The water, nature, culture, people–everything!"
Daniel stares at his two students as they looked back at them. Some sort of lightbulb just exploded in his head. At this moment, has a trip planned out for himself to go back to Okinawa soon because it's been on his radar for a long time. All he needs to do is buy the plane tickets. "Yeah, you know I've always wanted to go back there. I just thought it would be too different without him. That's why I haven't gone back."
"Well next time you go, I'm coming too," Sam winks, walking with a plate of pancakes to sit next to her dad at the table.
Robby finishes the last one and flips it onto a plate, shutting the stove and bringing the plate to the table. "I would too. If you'd like to take me on said hypothetical trip, of course."
Hypothetical trip.
"I think you guys would love it there. You'd get to learn a new side of Miyagi-Do."
"That's one of the best parts!" Robby exclaims passionately. "I've been trying to get to that part in the book but I don't know if it has anything on Karate."
"It does. The Miyagi family has a few pages dedicated to their legacy and kata practices there. Trust me, you'll get there. I did."
"You did?"
"Yeah. I first decided to go with Mr. Miyagi because my mother was away, I was alone and he needed someone. So I spent all of my life savings, college money, everything to go with him–to be there for him. And I made the best decision of my life. I met so many great people there, gained so much experience... I got away from my own life and got to live a new one for a while. Mr. Miyagi taught me so much there, things I'll never forget. Things i've taught you two. But in reference to that book, I read it on the plane ride there. I digested so much information in those few hours, but it was because I was so excited."
"How long is the flight?" Robby asks. Sam notices a slight edge to his tone.
"About 13 hours from here, I think. Honestly it flew, but that book had occupied my free time on the plane and I was really excited."
Robby looks down at his food. "So um–you think that book is worth finishing?"
"Absolutely."
"Yeah sorry I'm not reading it," Sam interrupts.
"Your loss," Robby comes back and she hits his arm.

Daniel left them alone most of the day training on the balance board to go attend to other matters.
They knew he was busy and couldn't put everything on hold to teach them but they still hated when he left.
They made the best of it though. Since they were becoming better friends they were more comfortable around each other, and that only amplied the strange correlation they were forming.
While Daniel was gone, the pair sat on the edge of the koi pond with their feet in the water to cool down on the hot day and ate lunch.
And after that they didn't really know what else to do besides go home.
"I'm sore," Robby complains as he slides into her passenger seat.
"I know me too," she sighs, turning the car on.
They both breathed a sigh of relief at the fresh air that hit them.
"Hey I have an idea," Robby said, turning to face his friend.
"What?" she asks, shifting the car into drive.
"I know we're like–sweating now but would you maybe wanna try out the hot tub later?"
She glances at him. "Robby I can't even think of getting in a pool of hot water right now. Even the koi pond was too warm from the sun and I hate that thing."
Robby raises his brows. "Suit yourself, it'll do wonders for our aching muscles. I've been itching to try it since I moved in."
"Yeah you have fun with that. I recommend getting in when it's dark out and turning the lights on. It's awesome."
"Noted," he smirks and leans his head against the seat in exhaustion. He watches her through hooded lids as she drives home-even sweaty and sticky from training, he still adores her.
"What are you looking at?" she asks, narrowing her eyebrows.
He doesn't move. "Oh nothing," he sighs casually.
"I can feel your eyes burning through my skin."
He laughs. "They're not. I'm just trying to keep them open."
She rolls her eyes. "You're allowed to close them."
He lets his eyes slip closed. "But how will I make sure you're driving is okay? I can't possibly relac."
She gasps and hits him. He sits up and laughs before returning to his previous position.
"You're an asshole," she giggles and glances over to the boy. "I'm an amazing driver."
"If you say so," he shrugs.
Even with his teasing, he's completely at peace.

Sam runs into her room and shuts the door quickly.
What is wrong with me?
The heat from before wasn't just the sun, she was getting nervous around him. She was starting to have feelings for him.
Not good, not good, not good!
He must think i'm insane for that excuse. It's cool outside and nighttime now.
She sits down on her bed and rests her face in her hands. She screeches in frustration, almost feeling giddy? Like she has a new crush. Which she guesses she does.
When she raises her head she can see lights outside her window. She walks over and peers through the blinds.
Outside she sees Robby standing near the hot tub.
She shuts the blinds instantly, feeling her face burning up. She always knew he was ripped through the long cuts in those sleeveless shirts he wears all the time, but she hadn't seen him shirtless.
She scoots herself to the headboard on her bed far away from the window, trying to resist every urge to look or go out there herself.
XXXX
Robby steps up on the small step to get into the hot tub and carefully puts a leg in.
He noticed that Mr. and Mrs. LaRusso come out here and use the tub often so he made sure that they had no plans tonight beforehand. Mr. LaRusso had shown him how it works as well, agreeing that it helps muscle aches. After he showed him, he said that he and Amanda were going out for dinner and would be back later.
Fully submerging his body he felt a sigh of relief leave him. The burning water is cleansing his skin, making everything feel numb... but in a good way.
He found a comfortable spot facing away from the house–more specially Sam's window–and leaned further into the water, letting his head rest on the side. His arms rested on the outside the water as well, cooler than the rest of his body but the perfect flow of heat.
He sat there for what felt like forever, feeling every bubble. He kept making sure to keep he kept himself alert enough to not drift off, which he knew he could easily let himself do with the bubbles and water creating a constant white noise ambience.
"Do you have room for one more?"
He swears he heard and felt his heart jump. He sits up quickly and whips around to see Sam standing behind him, fidgeting with her hands.
"Of course," He stumbles. "But hey, I thought it was too hot for you."
"Nope not, not too h-hot for me!" she giggles nervously, taking the hand he is offering her to step inside.
As she steps in, he tries tries not to let his eyes wander her body, just as she's doing to him... admiring each other's beauty.
"Wow that does feel good," she breaths into the flow of the water.
He nods drowsily. "It's just like a huge bath."
"It's hotter than a bath," Sam reminds him.
His eyebrows shoot up and he stares at her with a certain cheeky look in his eyes. "Is it?"
Her face gets redder. "Y-Yeah I think it is right? I mean what does the little temperature thing say? I think it's over here somewhere–"
He stops her movements by grabbing her arm with his wrinkled fingers and feels it tense up. "Relax," he smiles.
She nods nervously and sinks back into the water.
"I'm not going to bite, you can sit closer to me, it feels like you're purposely trying to find the furthest spot."
Shit. "Oh, oh sorry, it's just a habit... being closer to people makes it hotter."
I have to stop saying that word.
"Yeah, it does," Robby whispers softly and makes eye contact with her. What's he doing?
With a bit of bravery suddenly overcoming her, she scoots close enough that their knees and arms touch ever so slightly.
And it was hotter. The body heat.
The two sit in silence for a few seconds, not exactly knowing what to do next, but knowing what they wanted to do.
Robby turns first and catches her eye.
She stares back at him, admiring how the color of the water matches his eyes perfectly.
Her quick eyes see his hand coming out from the water. He moves her still-dry hair out of the way, tucking it behind her ear.
"Did anyone ever tell you you have really gorgeous eyes?" Sam blurtes unexpectedly, biting her lip immediately to keep herself from saying anything else.
He gives her a toothy smile. "Hey! You stole my line!"
They giggle, feeling that familiarity as the awkwardness slipped away. "You do. I'd say it's one of your most defining features. It's one of the first things I noticed when I met you."
He smiles warmly. "I was gonna say the same to you, but I think your smile is more defining."
She feels herself blush even harder and never for a second broke eye contact with him, she didn't want to.
They both knew whats was coming next-it can't not cause if you stare at each other long enough, glancing down at lips every so often, complementing and being so close together that you can feel each others body heat in a hot tub, then theres something that follows.
Robby lets that one hand caress her cheek and pull her into a gentle kiss, something they both were aching for.
But there was only one.
They both pull back to look at each other and make sure they made the right choice and in the moment, they unspokenly didn't care what her parents would say or what could happen. Like all the worries and concerns they both had, had just slipped away. All that mattered was each other and how they both just confirmed that they had been growing feelings for a while now.
Now, Sam goes in for the next one, moving closer and at the same time snaking an arm to the back of his head to pull him closer to her.
With that extra tug of force, the kiss naturally becomes more intense, like she kickstarted it. She run both hands through his hair, hair she had always wanted to play with. He hadn't gotten it wet yet so it wasn't a tangled mess.
He let his hands explore her back, touching her hair as well and looping it around his fingers, pulling it together to pull her in for a more passionate kiss that keeps escalating as they get more comfortable and feel more of each other.
One of his hands travels down her shoulder, to her arm and to her right thigh, gripping it tightly at the top.
She lets out a shaky breath and welcomes his hand placement by moving into his grip, but moves his hand away. He definitely doesn't expect her to follow his grip, but she does and moves to straddles him. "Sam," he breaths, unsure if the heat was getting too far to her head with her bold move.
She shuts him up by slamming her mouth against his. He places his hand back at the lining of her thigh and waist, holding her in place before moving his hips slightly. With that small movement, she begins to move with him in sync, feeling him underneath her.
He lets his left hand slowly trail along her back, sending a constant tickle down her spine. He plays with the straps of her bathing suit, not wanting to go too far by taking it off just yet. He sits up a little straighter and breaks their kiss, moving up to her neck.
She shudders at the feeling of his breath against the crook of her neck and even more so when he began to leave sloppy kisses there. She lets out a soft moan as he continues kissing that area and begins trailing down towards her collarbone.
When he stops, they make direct eye contact and she takes her hands and grips his hair again, making him close his eyes out of pleasure. Still grinding against him, she leans down and kisses his neck as well. She places one warm hand on the left part of his chest sending more heat through his body, if that was even possible at this point.
She leaves more kisses along his chest, mimicking the same movements he did to her and went back to kiss the other side of his neck, making him moan in pleasure as he lets his head fall back against the rim of the tub.
Desperately, their lips finally connected again but...
"Sam? Are you out there?"
Hearing Daniel's voice sent a wave of fear coursing through their bodies and Sam quickly flings herself back, going straight under the burning water to somehow cool herself off.
Oh god oh god oh god please tell me he didn't see that.
"Is she alright? Sam!" Daniel comes up behind Robby at seeing her daughter under the water. He looks at his student who sits there dumbfounded, his hair sticking up in all directions, half wet, half dry.
His daughter comes up and gasps for air, except it was really for a different reason Daniel was seeing. She stands straight up and looks at her father, waiting for the scolding. You can't date the boy living at your house! That you train with everyday! I didn't see that coming-
"Sam, I told you not to go underwater in the hot tub!" Daniel crosses his arm. "It's bad for you. You know that."
"I-I'm sorry, we were–"
"Seeing how long we could hold our breath for!" Robby jumps in, standing up himself, but quickly sitting right back down when Sam looked wide eyed right at him–seeing a very large bump in his bathing suit. "She was going first, I told her not to though."
Daniel sighs, kids are kids.
"All right whatever, come here," Daniel motions for them to come closer. Sam hesitantly slides back to her previous spot next to Robby, only this time not touching him at all. Her father leans against the other side of the tub, putting them in a group huddle.
"I'm confused," Sam whispers.
Does he know?
"I have something to tell both of you."
They both tense up, not exactly know why.
"Will it explain why you were gone all day?" Sam says, trying to regain her voice.
"Yes. I revisited an old idea of mine, after this morning, our conversation," Daniel starts.
"The conversation about Okinawa?" Robby asks, remembering this morning's conversation.
"Yes," Daniel nods. "And how you two feel like you're becoming in sync. I thought back to my time with Mr. Miyagi and how we got a lot closer when we were out there and since you guys are doing such a good job already, I thought it would be a good opportunity to get even closer." The two kids blush.
Yeah if only you knew how close we just got.
"Wait–" Robby spoke, stopping both of their thoughts because he actually heard Daniel. "Are we–?"
"We're going to Okinawa!" Daniel cheers and their eyes light up. "I've been saying I wanted to go back and visit for awhile now and I decided that i'm gonna be taking you guys with me. As a Miyagi-Do lesson of course so don't think this is all vacation."
"Oh my god!" Sam screeched. "When?!"
Daniel stops cheering and cringes, scratching his head. "7:00 am."
Their eyes go wide and Sam shoots up. "DAD THAT'S NOT ENOUGH TIME!"
"I know i'm sorry! I know it's really unrealistic, but the next flight directly out isn't for a few weeks."
She runs her hands through her hair and quickly gets out of the hot tub, feeling both of their eyes on her. "Okay i'm super excited now and all, but now I have to pack all night!" she grabs a towel and wraps it around her burning body.
"It's fine you'll have a 13 hours fight to sleep it off," Daniel reminds her.
Robby's head shoots straight to him. "It's actually 13 hours?"
Daniel nods. "It's not as bad as you'd think. You guys can sleep through most of it."
Sam notices worry flash across Robby's face, but in fear of making eye contact with him she only glances. I'll ask him in the morning.
"ANYWAY! I'm going inside to pack all night I guess. I can't even describe what I'm feeling right now," she babbles to herself.
Daniel narrows his brows at his daughter's strange, frantic behavior. "I guess adrenaline is getting to you!"
"SOMETHING LIKE THAT!" she screeches from afar and runs right into the house, sliding the door shut behind her.
Robby and Daniel look at each other and Robby shrugs.
"You've been in here for a while, let me see your hand," Daniel asks, taking his apprentice's hand. "Pruny! Go take a shower inside and get some rest. Pack whatever can fit in the carry-on bag I left on your bed."
Robby smiles. "Thank you Mr. LaRusso, for everything and this insane opportunity."
"I'm healing to pack myself, any bathroom is free," he says one last time before disappearing into the house.
Robby slumps against the side of the hot tub and lets out the breath he had been holding in the entire time.
XXXXXXXXX
Sam runs into her room for the second time that night and slammed the door behind her.
"WHY DID I LEAVE THIS ROOM?!" she shrieks and kicks a piece of clothing she folded on the floor, dropping her towel. Her window's blinds were still opened and she saw Robby getting out of the hot tub, water dripping from his shorts and splattering all over the concrete, turning it a darker color. She leans against the wall, almost letting herself slide down, but just let out a breath. Oh no, what did I do?
Now we're going on a trip together.
A plane ride for 13 hours. Practically sitting on top of each other. For 13 hours.
She always found it hard to sleep on a plane so she wasn't counting on it. In their family vacations in the past she was able to as a kid, but adored the atmosphere too much as she got older to miss any of it.
13 hours is different then 6 though.
But sitting so close to him for 13 hours straight, knowing they didn't talk about it... it's going to be so awkward.
We haven't talked about it at all!
I should've stayed to clear the air.
This is so embarrassing.
Trying to kick every thought out of her head, she enters her bathroom and turns the water on for her shower. Knowing Robby was in his room and not going to be in the house, she heads downstairs to grab her backpack to start packing.
She flies down the stairs way too fast and runs into her living room, grabbing her backpack that she had left on the couch after training.
Since she would be up for a while with her busy brain and packing, she heads towards the kitchen to make a coffee, but rams right into the wall.
"What the," she groans and stumbles back. She's lived her for years and ran around her own house a million times, she's sure there's no wall there–
"What! Why are you here?!" she whispers and mentally slapped herself in the head for sounding so stupid and childish.
"Shower," he points to the bathroom in front of her.
"Oh-oh right the pool house doesn't have one," she giggles awkwardly. "Allrightwelli'll Seeya!"
She quickly scurries around him, not letting her eyes stare directly into his or linger around his completely ripped torso.
Before Robby could even say anything else to her she ran back up to her room and slammed the door for the third time that night.
He blinks in her wake and worries if he'd just screw anything up. He also didn't want to think about the fact that they were going to be on a plane tomorrow. A plane. Something he's always wanted to go on as a kid, but never really got to and developed a fear of over time. After one bad experience and watching LOST with one of his mom's boyfriends when they were together, he grew terrified of crashing on an island and the plane breaking apart. Even in the car he would jolt when it would stir or his mom would hit the break too hard.
Going on a plane with Mr. LaRusso and Sam sounded good for a second, but he didn't want either of them to see how he was truly feeling, weak and embarrassed, especially after complicating things with Sam like they just had.
It's a mess.
XXXXXXXXXXX
Sam lays her suitcase out on the bed and plays soft music on her phone, folding some clothes.
She grabs a few of her favorite dresses for when they went out and for beach nights. She imagines it to be beachy there, hot and windy but in the nicest way. She packs a few pairs of leggings and tanks she wore to train while they're there. Some normal clothes too like jeans and nicer/cooler tops.
It was late by the time she was done, she saw that the time read almost 2:00AM.
Finally, zipping up the case and leaning it against the door she sits on the edge of her bed and stares outside to see the lights still on in the guest house with a shadow walking around.
Why is he still up?
This time I'll actually stop myself from going down there and finding out.
She shut the blinds and lays down in bed, dreading waking up in the morning–only mere hours from then.
XXXXX
"SAM!" she hears a distant yell from somewhere else in the house. Her door opens and her father stands there. "Sam, we have to leave."
She sits up, opening her eyes slowly to see only what she saw when she went to bed a few hours ago. Darkness outside her window.
"Are you messing with me?" she groans and rubs her eyes.
"It's 5:30, the plane leaves at 7!" Daniel claps his hands in a chop-chop manner.
"Come back to me once you've gotten Robby up," She groans almost forgetting for a second what happened between them last night because she normally says the same thing every morning. She always says–if he's not up, then I don't have to be.
"Yeah I went to him first, he was already up."
"Why? You think he stayed up all night?" Sam asks, slightly concerned. Theres been a few times in the past where her '–if he's not up, then I don't have to be' actually works because Daniel said he couldn't wake the boy, so she assumed he was a heavy sleeper and that an early morning would not be his thing.
"I don't know he seemed a bit off last night, you know anything?" Daniel asks.
She shakes her head quickly so nothing else was said. "No, nothing."
He eyes her. "All right. Get yourself ready, you remember–wear comfortable clothes. I told Robby to dress comfortably and warm."
Sam nods and watches her dad leave her room.
She kicks the covers off of her and feels a rush of adrenaline–like it was kicking for the first time that they were going to Okinawa, right now. She's excited to see the clothes she left out the night before sitting on the chair in her room waiting for her.
She happily ran into the bathroom and fixed herself, but caught a glimpse at her swollen lips in the mirror.
Oh right.
Oh no.
Throwing on a tad bit of makeup on to freshen herself up, she sighs, will it be awkward?
All the thoughts from last night came rushing in.
13 HOURS! NEXT TO HIM?!
What are the odds I can put dad in between us?
Probably 0 to none.
"SAM!" She heard her dad call once more. "You have to leave time to say goodbye to mom and your brother!"
She scans the room one last time to make sure she didn't leave anything–charges, makeup, clothes... all good! She latches onto her suitcase and rolls out of her room, taking a deep breath before going downstairs because she knows he's going to be down there.
She enters the kitchen as quietly as she can with her obnoxious rolling bag and sees her dad break a kiss with her mom.
"Oh baby, I'm going to miss you!" Amanda frowns, leaving her husband to hug her daughter.
"I know me too, this is so sudden," Sam smiles into her mothers shirt.
She suddenly feels eyes on her, watching their loving moment. When they break, she sees that Robby's at the kitchen table, watching them in a daze. She pretends not to notice his strange behavior and continues on with her mom.
"You have everything right? Clothes,"
"Check."
"Makeup."
"Check."
"Anything else lady related."
"MOM! check," Sam blushes.
"Some dresses?"
"Check."
"Warm and cool clothes."
"Check."
"Training clothes." "Check."
"Bathing Suits?"
"Check."
"PJS?"
"Check! Mom, don't worry, I have everything!"
"Alright alright I just wanna make sure! My babies are going to be across the world," Amanda pouts and gives a sad face to the three people in the room–Robby, Daniel and Sam. Robby lets himself smile for a moment, loving the feeling of being included.
"You too, come here," Amanda gestures for Robby to join their hug.
He hesitantly (yet eagerly at the same time), stands up and walks over to them, practically falling into Amanda's open arms. Amanda also pulls Sam in for a quick group hug. She feels her insides churn at smelling his intoxicating scent that she had so much of last night.
13 hours. It just kept replaying in her head.
Amanda fluffed their hair and they laughed, catching each other's eye for a brief moment before turning back to her parents. For the second she caught his eye, she could see the bags under them and how tired he looked. It's worse then an early Miyagi-Do morning session. Had he really not slept at all?
"Robby wanna help me bring things out to the car?" Daniel asks.
Robby nods and smiles one last time at Amanda. The two boys leave the room, Robby grabbing Sam's bag along the way.
"Hey take these too," Amanda says once the boys were completely out of sight.
"I don't need these anymore," Sam tells her. "Anthony used to make them remember?"
"For Robby. It may just be a mother instinct but he seems a little off. Maybe he's coming down with something."
"So you're giving me your drug bag to use on my friend," Sam giggles.
"Essentials, yes," Amanda laughs. "You know which are the ones for the plane, Advil, tylenol..."
"I know!"
"There's something up with you, love," Amanda squints.
"Nothings up with me at all!" she smiles.
"Sam."
"Mom I swear!"
She put her hands up in defeat. "Whatever you say. I just hope this trip helps you figure some things out."
She knows. Or well, knows to an extent.
"Yeah well, I hope so."
XXX
AN: Sorry for the long chapter!
Re-editing this was fun, it feels so high school (I wrote it for the first time in high school, i'm in college now-which is good because Sam and Robby was high-schoolers anyway). So if any of this feels childish, it's because it sort of is in a way. I embraced the awkwardness of a 'first' relationship or a 'high school' relationship. I used to act all embarrassed and nervous like this around my crushes, so I wanted to lean into that.
The next chapter is pretty fluffy too, focuses a lot on the plane ride and Robby's anxiety about flying.
I think this is going to be three chapters, plus an alternate ending that I had come up with if I decide that in this universe, Sam and Robby are not endgame and things turn out the way they did in the show. But we'll see!
