The Hokage had stared him down, willing him to give up, the whole ordeal was strange. However, there was no reason why he could not take in the girl. "What is the meaning of this?" The third Hokage demanded once it became clear he would not be the weaker willed man.
"My wife and I have always wanted daughter." Was all he was willing to supply, the truth could not be revealed, it was a strange truth that he still struggled to understand, but he knew this is what he had to do.
"You did not file an adoption request, this is just a guardianship request," he pointed out.
"Her parents were murdered, she was not abandoned, I do not plan to replace them, if one day she wishes to legally become Mikoto's and I daughter I will stand by her." Fugaku had tossed and turned for the past few nights trying to see every possible roadblock on his path, and the mornings figuring out how to go around them.
"To be able to read your mind at this very moment would not be an unwelcomed gift. The girl comes from civilian parents, in theory there is no reason for me stop you." Fugaku did not miss the way the Hokage seemed to consider his words, "but in practice I cannot do that. The way her parents were brutally murdered has ANBU investigating, specifically Danzo. He has requested she remain under his care for some time."
Fugaku knew of that request, it had occurred soon after word spread of his own interest in taking in the girl. "I have heard of that, I also heard it occurred two days ago, and that before my interest in the girl was well known she was to be placed in an orphanage under Danzo's orders specifically."
"Things change during investigations, you know this." The Hokage smiled, yet nothing could disguise his discomfort, he had not expected Fugaku to know the initial orders.
"I also know the girl just went through a traumatic event, what she needs is comfort and stability. She needs to be taken care of, my wife and I can provide that, Danzo cannot. I am willing to argue my case, I am willing to fight for guardianship, will Danzo be willing?" Will you risk Danzo's secrets coming out into the light? Yours?
The Hokage heard the message clearly,"I cannot disagree, Danzo is not the best with children, and a permanent home is better than a temporary one. Danzo however will be allowed to see the girl when he pleases within reason. Haruno Sakura will be under your care."
Fugaku left soon after, he had threatened the Hokage, he was having another child, and he had just given permission for an enemy to go into his home. He felt exhausted, but the memory of why he was doing this gave him strength. He had to undo the damage that was done, he would protect Sakura, the future demanded it.
A/N: this is one those ideas that I was not going to write (if you read my author notes you should be able to guess why)… for this idea this would be the prologue, and I am not to sure how action packed this story would be... I've been debating if I should write a preview for Recovery of what Sakura and Sasuke's reunion would be like, but I also don't want to spoil it if I do ever get around to writing it properly... let me know if you want to spoiled, or if there is any story in particular you want an update for
