He watched his idiots sleeping on the couch a laptop on the coffee table in front of them and a notebook on the ground. Naruto's neck was at such an angle that for a moment he felt guilty for not awaking him earlier and it also made him wonder how the boy had not snapped his own neck. Poor kid he was going to be sore all day. Sasuke for his part had a scowl on his face but his head was at least on the arm rest, so there was that.

Itachi was not sure when they fell asleep, but if their night had gone like his, it was unlikely it had been much. He dropped his own notebook on the table, that was enough to wake up Sasuke, he had always been a light sleeper. Naruto, however remained unmoved, which really, he wished he could be surprised.

Before Sasuke had the chance to truly awaken, Itachi began, "in this notebook is all I could find about mermaids." Sasuke reached for the notebook at his words and began flipping through it amazed at his brother and sure more than ever that he had made the right choice. "While all of this is unconfirmed, I took special note of the things that show up more than twice. You will notice I highlighted things we need to prioritize in confirmation. Unfortunately, there is no telling as of now if she will be able to communicate with us."

Sasuke nodded, "how did you even do all this? Naruto and I only really got that mermaids like water."

"I was using the computer, not Naruto." Was all he offered but something did not sit well with Sasuke.

"Have you seen his handwriting?"

"Yes, I have," the disappointment was hard to mask. "There are also some theories based on human anatomy and such, it really is the only basis I have." Forgetting his earlier concern Sasuke wanted to hug his brother, "I also did some research as what the normal temperature of the water is around here." He took the notebook from Sasuke and flipped to a page, pointing at a small chart he had made, "here," he said giving Sasuke the notebook back,"is the average. You will notice that in winter it gets really cold, assuming she lives around here all year round, her body temperature will be able to withstand colder temperature."

"Which means?" Sasuke asked, it was still too early and just looking at his brother's notes was overwhelming.

"We at least have an idea of the range for healthy body temperature, sort of. We only have an idea of the cool temperature that should be fine for her, if not ideal, but we do not know how much heat her body can handle."

"So, we don't know if she is running a fever by mermaid standards?" Itachi nodded.

"You will notice that there is not only a yearly average temperature of the past ten years, but also of each season. For now, the ideal temperature to keep her in is fall average. We do not know if she is a sick mermaid or not, thus we play it safe."

"You are amazing," he did not bother hiding his admiration, "how did you manage to do this all by yourself?"

"You see, -" Itachi began, but before he could continue, they heard the door open.

Then they heard a cheery voice shout, "hello dumbasses! Your savior is here!"

Then a quieter voice, "Shisui don't be rude."

"C'mon Izumi, they love me too much to ever mind! Plus, we brought coffee."

A/N: I realize this is short even for this AU, but I always wanted them involved in this AU, for this AU (spoilerish but since these are developing stories nothing is official) I really want Izumi and Itachi too take up the role of parents for Sakura, while Shisui will be more of the fun uncle. They are meant to give her supervision in this new world, because Sasuke and Naruto would be horrible influences. They will be the "adults" in Sakura's life and each of their role's is decided. Also I always thought Itachi's world view would break, but he would be quick to adapt and move forward. Which is what he did.
