Today was not just any day. Today was the day Uchiha Sauke officially became a genin, sort of. He still had to pass his jonin instuctor's test, but the Uchiha family was positive he would not fail. Thus, dinner was a lively affair, "so," Mikoto started after all the congratulations had been given, "you've told us Kakashi is your sensei, who else is in your team?"
"Naruto," Sasuke hesitated knowing that his parents would not like the answer and already guessing his brother's reaction, "and Sakura."
Itachi began to choke, his laughter getting the better of him, and Mikoto gasped. Fugaku remained still, the silence was only broken when Itachi stopped laughing and glared at his parents as he announced, "I could have died."
"Yet, you live." Replied Fugaku without giving him a second glance, "Now, Sasuke are you sure it is Sakura on your team?"
"Father, Sasuke has been ready marry her since he first laid eyes on her, I think he recognizes her." This time Fugaku did look to Itachi, however Itachi was uncaring of the glare sent in his direction and continued his meal.
"He has a point." Mikoto added to diffuse the tension, sending Fugaku an apologetic look.
"This is unacceptable!" Fugaku declared, and though she did not express it, Mikoto agreed. "What is Minato thinking?"
"Well, I doubt Hokage-sama knows of all those unsent love letters Sasuke keeps under his mattress." Itachi defended.
Flushing red Sasuke was quick to deny this, "there is no such thing under my mattress."
"That's right," Mikoto was quick to add, "there is only one left now, and I found it in his sock drawer."
"Mother!"
"Well I think its sweet that you have been trying to find the perfect words to confess, there is no shame in love."
Desperate to change the subject, and all urge to celebrate long gone he asked, "what's so bad about her being on my team?"
To his surprise, everyone turned to him with the same expression, it was his mother who answered. "The problem is not Sakura-chan on your team, it's you on hers." Seeing his confusion, his mother continued, "you tend to be impulsive and reckless around her. When you were younger it was cute-"
"scary." Itachi interrupted. Mikoto glared at him, he shrugged his shoulders, "it's the truth."
"Itachi is right." Fugaku interrupted, his turn to betray his wife, looking at Sasuke and deciding there was no need to soften the blow, he began. "Son, you try to impress her and come of as an ass, if you ever want a proper relationship for her it is better that she spends as little time with you as possible."
"I-"
"Your father is right Sasuke." Mikoto interrupted, not even bothering giving him the chance to defend himself. "Remember when you wanted to help her with her shuriken practice and you pointed out every single thing, she was doing wrong, and you made her cry?"
"That's not fair, she never let me finish."
Mikoto continued, "the next day you were telling her how good you are at it, and you made it seem like you were throwing it in her face."
"I was just pointing out the reasons I should help her!"
"Then the other kids started making fun of her for being bad at it?"
"It is not my fault kids are mean." Sasuke crossed his arms, aware he was losing.
"and then," Mikoto added, "the day after that you came home with a black eye because that Yamanaka girl punched you for being mean to Sakura?"
"It was all a misunderstanding," he defended weakly.
"Your whole relationship to that poor girl is a giant misunderstanding." Itachi said taking sip from his drink.
"Not only that but, you get very distracted by her."
"What your mother is trying to say is, you will be going on missions, and you cannot afford to stare at her while in the middle of a fight. You will die."
Offended by the little faith his family had in him, Sasuke stood up and walked away while yelling, "well if I die at least the last thing I would see is her!"
"Unlikely!" Itachi yelled back, "the poor girl is terrified of you she would not go anywhere near you." He heard a door slam in response.
"Itachi, just because it's true doesn't mean you should say it."
"Your mother is right. Let your brother have some hope."
A/N: originally this was going to be its own thing but I slowly realized that I had already made an AU where this fits perfectly, but it did inspire me to come up with a better name for Love, Flipped. Will be changing that name later. I know this AU is the favorite in Beginnings, so I figured I should leave the title unchanged so that you guys can still find it, so it will probably be called love/flipped which honestly works since the love is flipped in general
anyway I'm thinking I need to change the rating for this, cause of the whole affair fic, while never explicit it still feels more mature. I just do not know what rating it should fall under.
anyway thanks for reading and you guys can find me on tumblr as tentativewriter.
