The words that left his mother's lips should have brought him joy, but the tone changed the meaning. They went from words he had waited so long hear to words he could do without. His body felt too hot, his mother was still speaking to him but the ringing in his ears made the rest of the words irrelevant. Sasuke could feel his breathing become heavier, could feel the nausea coming, his vision began to blur.
His mother got closer, trying to get him to focus on her, but it was her that had delivered the news. Her face was a reminder of her words. Suddenly it was his brother who was in front of him, and he could faintly make out the words his brother was saying, "breath… my voice."
Eventually he did, but he felt weak, unable to stand, a headache, and worst of all he now had the knowledge, "they found her." Sakura was dead, they had found her and she was dead. The first 48 hours were the most important, and Sakura had been taken years ago he should have known she would be dead.
He had not realized how much hope he had carried with him until this moment, when it was gone. "Her parents will be making the announcement soon." Sasuke felt his mother's arm around his shoulders, it brought him no comfort, no warmth, he wanted to pull away but found he had no strength to do so. "Her closest friends were pulled out of school; they didn't want you guys finding out through the media." Sasuke vaguely registered that his mother was also crying, his mother had loved Sakura too he recalled. His mother liked buying her pretty bows and hair ties, his brother had treated her like a sister, and his father thought she was too smart to be his and Naruto's friend.
He wanted to know more he had so many questions yet none he was prepared to hear the answer too. Instead he left his family's sight, "I want to be alone." He announced, he heard their protests, but couldn't find it in him to care. She is dead, his mind supplied with every step he took. You were with her that night. If you hadn't lost your memory of that night she could be alive.
A/N: spoilers for this AU without revealing too much Sakura is dead, she was missing for 4 years and Sasuke is 17... so you do the math... i wasn't going to write this because the idea behind the story is dark but the idea would not leave me alone. So on the night Sakura was taken the idea is that Sasuke was walking her home, the kidnapper thought they killed Sasuke (but he was only knocked out), and they took Sakura. Due to the injury Sasuke has no recollection of the events. I've been reading a lot isekai stories lately so i thought about making this a Sasuke goes to the past story to try and figure it out, but I am also debating if he should just focus on solving it in the present... idk yet...
