Third Person

The sun hung low in the sky as Eira wandered along the shore, collecting driftwood for the evening fire. The Flightmare glided above her, its ethereal glow casting long shadows on the sand. Eira had settled into a rhythm on the island, but she still felt a pang of longing for home. She had grown close to the Flightmare, their bond deepening with each passing day.

As she bent to pick up a particularly large piece of driftwood, she noticed a shimmering trail in the water. Squinting, she realized it was the glowing algae that the Flightmare fed on. She knelt by the water's edge, dipping her fingers into the cool liquid and watching the algae swirl around her hand.

"You're amazing, aren't you?" she said aloud, looking up at the Flightmare. It let out a soft trill and swooped down to land beside her. "This algae is your lifeline."

The Flightmare lowered its head, touching her hand with its snout as if acknowledging her words. Eira smiled and patted its scaly cheek. "I think you need a name," she said thoughtfully. "How about... Lumen? It means light."

The dragon's eyes sparkled with approval, and it let out a joyful hum. "Lumen it is," Eira said, laughing.

Their moment of tranquility was shattered by a sudden, violent tremor. The ground beneath Eira shook, and she stumbled backward, her eyes widening in fear. From the depths of the forest came a low, guttural growl, followed by the unmistakable sound of trees being uprooted.

"Lumen, what's happening?" Eira whispered, her heart pounding. The Flightmare's glow intensified, its body tensing as it turned towards the source of the disturbance.

Without warning, a massive, serpentine dragon burst from the forest, its white scales gleaming in the fading light. Eira's breath caught in her throat. A Whispering Death.

The monstrous dragon lunged at them, its mouth a gaping maw of razor-sharp teeth. Eira scrambled to her feet, her mind racing. "Lumen, we have to get out of here!" she shouted.

Lumen roared and unleashed a blast of its paralyzing mist at the Whispering Death. The mist enveloped the attacking dragon, slowing its movements but not stopping it. The Whispering Death writhed in fury, its tail lashing out and smashing into the water, sending waves crashing onto the shore.

Eira watched in horror as the glowing algae were swept out to sea by the violent waves. Lumen's eyes followed the trail, and Eira realized with a sinking feeling that the algae were drifting away from the island.

"Lumen, your food!" she cried. "We need to follow it!"

The Flightmare responded with a fierce roar, its wings unfurling. Eira grabbed onto Lumen's neck, her fingers digging into its scales. "I'm with you," she whispered, her voice trembling.

With a powerful leap, Lumen took to the sky, Eira clinging to its back. They soared above the beach, the Whispering Death's roars fading into the distance. Below them, the trail of glowing algae shimmered in the water, leading away from the island.

"Lumen, follow the algae!" Eira shouted against the wind. The dragon trilled in response and angled its wings, diving towards the glowing trail. Eira's heart raced as they flew over the open sea, the island shrinking behind them.

As they followed the trail, Eira marveled at the vast expanse of water beneath them. She had never flown before, and the sensation was both exhilarating and terrifying. The wind whipped through her hair, and she held on tightly, trusting Lumen to keep her safe.

"Lumen, you're incredible," she murmured, leaning close to the dragon's neck. "We'll find your food. I promise."

They flew for what felt like hours, the sun dipping below the horizon and the sky turning a deep shade of blue. The glowing algae illuminated their path, a beacon in the darkness. Eira's fear began to ebb, replaced by a sense of determination. She wasn't just surviving; she was helping her friend.

As the night deepened, the stars emerged, twinkling above them. Eira felt a sense of awe at the beauty of the world around her. Despite the danger and uncertainty, she felt alive in a way she never had before.

"Lumen, look!" she exclaimed, pointing ahead. In the distance, she could see a faint glow—another patch of algae, larger and more concentrated. "We're getting close!"

The Flightmare let out a triumphant cry, its wings beating faster. They descended towards the glowing patch, Eira's heart soaring with hope. She knew they still had a long way to go, but with Lumen by her side, she felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

As they touched down on the water's surface, Eira stroked Lumen's neck and smiled. "We did it, Lumen. We'll find your food, and we'll find a way home. Together."

The Flightmare hummed softly, its glow reflecting in the water. Eira felt a surge of gratitude and determination. She might be far from home, but with Lumen by her side, she knew they could overcome anything.
