The Grove of Eldorado

The first thing Leo noticed when he got his senses back was that it was hot and humid. There was also a very loud indication of life. Green everywhere of many different shades. He saw Frida and April a few feet from him on the left. And Slash closer to him on the right. Satoshi was already ahead of them to indicate his leadership. Did he forget there were two?

"We're on a human trail. So, we'll need to disguise ourselves for a time." Satoshi ordered as Mayhem hid in April's backpack. Leo rummaged through his pouch and pulled out his cloaking broach and tossed Frida hers before pinning his to his belt. Slash and Satoshi had already transformed.

Slash a high school, Japanese student in hiking gear. His human form looked similar to Raph's, but his head and nose were shaped more similarly to Karai's with his hair longer and around his shoulders and a little bit greasy. While Satoshi was looking like a young adult who could be described as attractive and in good shape. His hair cut short and orderly. Both were wearing hiking attire.

"Beats wearing a hoodie in the summer heat." He said tapping it and changing into his human form. A blond boy with a spiky pompadour that looked similar to Hamato Yoshi as a teenager. With Red eye liner as stripes under his eyes and a blue blazer jacket with jeans and black boots. His scar and pattern poking out from under his shirt.

Frida's form was now completely different from what Krysta and April had described. Frida had her cloaking broach on her belt, a small pentagon with an aqua colored jewel in it. But she had long black hair tied up in a French-braid. Black athletic wrappings on her hands and forearms. Black loose sweatpants with an aqua colored rim at the top. Teal colored running shoes and muscle shirt.

"Lookin' good." April said to her as she blushed a little.

"So where do we start?" Leo asked jumping up into a tree and looking around for the Gothano. "Do we split up set a trap? Oh, I know!" he began before Satoshi pulled him down and placed with the others.

"We follow my orders. I'm the leader here not you! For now, we head to Eldorado and ask the locals while keeping our eyes peeled." Satoshi growled. He then began marching off as Leo stared disgusted daggers into his back.

"Memememememe." He growled following after him while Frida stayed quiet. April and Slash looked at each other a bit annoyed, mostly shocked.

"What was that about!?" April asked Slash who just growled.

"Satoshi has a bit of an immature streak. But it's never been this bad and it's never got in the way of the mission! Stupid Dregg is getting to him. Man, sometimes I wish I could switch lives with him so he could feel better already." Slash sighed.

"He's the son of a Crime Boss in the Hidden City that's over his head constantly. And people will literally never let it go. Do you really want that?" April asked him a bit worriedly.

Slash sighed. "No, I guess not…." He muttered as they jogged to catch up with the rest of the group. For a while there was silence and humidity and the calls of various animals to keep them company as they followed Satoshi. The Sun was beginning to lower in the sky and the blue sky began to take on an orange and purple gradient as they moved.

Everyone else was spending the time trying to figure out how to make camp if need be. Leo, however, spent that time annoying Satoshi.

"Can we go right?" He asked.

"No." Satoshi muttered.

"What about left?"

"No."

"Back the other way?" Leo asked.

"No!"

"What about South?"

"We're going South!" Satoshi.

"Let's go Northeast then!" Leo declared loudly and as obnoxiously as he could, jumping on his shoulders.

"NO!" Satoshi growled, pulling him off and holding him by the shirt at his face to glare at him. "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS!?"

"Because." Leo replied innocently, making Satoshi growl only for a trio of blood curdling screams to hit the air. Satoshi quickly dropped Leo and ran ahead. Everyone else hot on his heels. Satoshi gasped when he saw something and shouted back to them. "Disguises off! Slash get April a disguise!"

Everyone immediately did so, revealing their true forms as April was turned back into a cat by Slash putting on his cloaking broach and tapping it. Which made what Leo knew now were three Yokai farmers rushing over. One a howler monkey with black fur and a rust-colored beard with a navy belt in his hat, a brown vest and lighter brown shirt with dark brown pants. The other was a Bird with a white durag a green shirt and brown work pants covered in dirt and something else. Clearly, he had been pouring manure. The third and youngest one was a grey fox Yokai with blue teel colored clothes and a yellow vest with a grey hat. His tail whipped wildly in anxiety and relief.

"You two! You're the Sacred Guard, right?! Please the Gothano! It flew right over us! It dove at us! You must come to the city at once!"

"We're aware of the Gothano and are already on our way there. Unfortunately, he's managed to split the Guard's attention, but Slash and I will do what we can while the rest of the Guard do what they must in their areas. And we have brought Allies to assist us." Satoshi replied calmly.

"Kind of a long story." Slash noted chipperly.

"Hold up! Eldorado is a Yokai city!?" April gasped.

"That's right." Slash replied. "Don't worry we'll keep your crop safe."

"Crop?" April asked.

"You'll see." Frida assured her.

"Come on." Satoshi ordered as they headed off Leonardo rushed up to Satoshi's side again.

"Sooooo does Gothano have any hobbies?" He asked as Satoshi tried to ignore him, rolling his eyes. "Any traits…ya know you never told us what this guy is like."

"We don't know much about it. It's only known desire is to cause the unadulterated destruction of our world." Satoshi growled.

"Okay second question." Leo replied.

"Must you?" Satoshi huffed.

"Yes, Eldorado in Spanish means the gilded one. So, the Yokai thing makes it lost to humans. But where does the gilded reference come from?"

"It's main import." Satoshi replied as they climbed up the top of the hill and the sun completely set. To their surprise they saw a large walled city with a moat attached to a river that had plenty of farmland covered in a golden light. That seemed to sway and move in a brisk breeze that past over.

"SUN PEPPERS!" Slash cheered happily. "Let's go eat!" he said running ahead.

"Sun Peppers? That light is a Pepper?" Frida gasped. "They're even brighter than I imagined!"

"The City of Gold is gilded because of peppers?" April asked incredulously as Mayhem poked his head out and his jaw dropped at the sight.

"It's a type of Mystic Capsicum and the main export. Those who want to make a decent wage do well to come here. As it's a very popular ingredient and dish." Satoshi explained as they headed after Slash towards the gate. "The Pepper has a natural bioluminescence. And glows very brightly with a golden light. So, when Humans saw the city from a distance, they believed it to be made of gold. But the mystic protection would never let them close. So, it was written off as a myth."

"Have you had them before?" April asked Frida.

"Never allowed. But Mo- Big Mama would always have them at her parties especially when her associates the Masters of Barbarianism and the Makers of Brutality were there." Frida explained.

"How is something spicy fattening when that's supposed to make you lose weight?" Leo asked with an arched eyebrow.

"It wasn't just not a lady food. I'm beginning to think I was just singled out." Frida sighed.

"Probably screw her." April replied. As they were getting closer to the door into the city they noticed one of the farmers was a female mutant Olive Ridley Sea turtle. With bluish onyx colored skin and silver colored shell and sky-blue markings in the shape of twisting tear drops alluding to a ying yang symbol. And a spot on her head with beautiful aqua eyes.

"Oooohhh!" Leo muttered in awe, blushing, and Frida was also blushing but was silently staring.

Suddenly Slash came running back looking like he had run a marathon. "All sorted out SALSA TIME!" he shouted picking up everyone and rushing into town with Satoshi over his shoulder and Mayhem, Leo, April and Frida all bunched together in his left arm as he ran through the town getting various looks.

"I'm not sure but I think we should try the salsa." Leo muttered to April.

"I really here I thought we should avoid it." April deadpanned.

Once Slash had rounded a couple of corners. They came upon a large building with a kind of patio in the front with large doors. A stone shingled house with vines of glowing peppers on it. But the walls were sandstone colors with various art on them. A Big sign overhead read

"La Cantina Dorada"

Slash then kicked the door down. "Chef Muscular!" Slash shouted making a Yokai in the back jump with a yelp. He turned and poked his head out a door after shouting at someone to hold the fort.

"Slash my boy!" said the Yokai with black hair and a thin mustache and glasses with a vest and sleeveless shirt and pants with boots. Taking off his apron.

Leo immediately noticed he kind of looked like you took off the skin of a Don Sauve and only left the muscles. "What are you doing back in town?"

"Official Sacred Guard business. Some of the Farmers saw the Gothano!" Satoshi said. After he managed to pull himself off Slash's shoulder.

"But first Salsa!" Slash said pushing him out of the way.

"Slash!" Satoshi barked angrily.

"Dude we've been walking all day and it's nighttime at least feed us and let us rest if you're gonna rule with an iron claw." Leo said he April and Frida still under his arm. Satoshi shooting him a glare.

"Slash put us down!" Frida growled.

"Oh sorry!" he said doing so.

"Peppino is right you can't fight that monster on an empty stomach Satoshi." Muscular said happily. "And you'll never find it in the Dark. Eat and rest and I will tell you what I know yah?"

"I suppose." Satoshi conceded.

"Wait you said Peppino? By any chance do you know Senor Hueso? Runs a Pizzeria in New York. Bone Man got framed for a crime by his brother?" Leo asked.

"Yes, He and Peil are my younger cousins. Last I heard you had helped him clear his record and Piel is finally going straight because of your influence! I've heard a little about you."

"Awww I'm flattered." Leo cooed.

"But I will be watching you." Muscular suddenly said sternly.

"Fair enough." Leo replied with a sheepish grin.

Everyone was now going to find their seats at a nearby booth. Satoshi and Leo at opposite ends scowled at each other while April and Frida sat on opposite sides of Slash who had already jumped into the booth in the middle.

"You're lucky that we just made a fresh batch of Sun Salsa since Venus dropped off the restaurant supply before heading to take some to the processing plant nearby."

"I'm back!" said a voice. Leo gasped, everyone turned to see the Mutant Turtle from before coming in and bowing to them.

"Welcome esteemed guests of the Sacred Guard and Allies. I am Venus De Milo. I hope our restaurant will provide as an excellent base for your needs." She said humbly.

"Yes, it will!" Leo said his eyes glittering thinking how adorable she was.

"Thank you for your hospitality!" Frida replied.

"Yes, thank you." Satoshi replied as Leo grinned at Venus.

"So, maybe if I have some time, you and I could go out on a date just the two of us? Show you around New York? I can get us back there in seconds with my awesome-"

"Oi Peppino!" Muscular called. "You are not her type."

"Uh what?" Leo asked.

"I…Uhhh I'm sorry I only like…ummm…girls" Venus began shrinking into her shell a little.

"Oh…." Leo muttered. "Okay…" He muttered, deflating quickly.

"You also came on way to strongly Peppino." Muscular scolded lightly.

"Do I have to call a Fool's Gold?" asked another voice they saw a Mutant Coati who had long hair a striped tail and a black mask under his brown hair tied back in a ponytail with an apron of his own with a purple shirt and black pants. Who had been passing by with a tub for cleaning tables.

It was then Slash finally noticed Him and Venus. "Hey, you got new employees."

Muscular laughed. "Ya finally noticed. I almost forgot they came into my life after your solo mission here. Yes, Kuro and Venus have been here for around three months. Kuro joined us about a month and a half ago after Venus."

"After?" Frida asked.

"Yes, three months ago I was near a lagoon leading out to the ocean outside the city on a hike." Muscular said thinking back.

He had been enjoying the Hike on his day off when he suddenly heard a squeal of sorts, he rushed over to see a man from one of the human cities nearby pulling up an onyx colored sea turtle with a silver shell and blue markings. When the creature was pulled out of the net it began to struggle when the man roughly pulled her out with a knife.

Before I could intervene, a glowing weird mosquito appeared. It was around the size of the ones here and bit Venus. Within minutes the poacher had disappeared, and, in their place, Venus had changed into the shape you see now.

He finished thinking back to when Venus looked at herself over sitting back and sticking up her legs. And wiggling their toes. She was very puzzled. She whimpered when she saw Muscular approach her holding out a gentle hand for her which she took.

"She's only Sixteen and a half now. I imagine she was an adolescent when she was hunted. Sighs the lack of the respect humans can have, is depressing."

"Yeah, even other humans can end up hating it." April muttered. The trio looked at her. "Which is what I've heard!" she said nervously.

"Speaking of," Muscular continued. "Kuro showed up a bit later. Said he was once human himself and was bitten by the same bug. Strange it has happened twice hopefully it's not an epidemic."

"It is." April and Leo deadpanned.

"There has been an incident involving Baron Draxum in connection with the bugs you speak of." Frida clarified. "It's kind of a long story."

"Ahh that, Hueso has told me of that involving one of his own employees as well." Muscular replied.

"Anywhoozle we should probably get back to talking about the Gothano before Satoshi has a conniption. Satoshi growled at him.

"You mean that terrible monster that flew at some of the farmers today?" Venus asked trembling a little.

"Yes, unfortunately but don't worry, I'm sure it won't hurt anyone." Frida replied.

"It seems to be resting up on the mountain that much I know, Peppino." Muscular replied.

It was then that one of the other employees came out with chips and small glowing bowls.

"OH YEAH!" Slash cheered happily.

"You're gonna want these." Kuro replied, handing out a bunch of sunglasses. Everyone else but Leo and April put them on as the Salsa came down in front of them. A Golden light immediately blinded them.

"AHH MY PERFECT GOLD EYES!" Leo yelped, covering his eyes with the glasses, the same as April.

"WHY IS IT LIKE LOOKING INTO THE SUN!?" April cried putting on the sunglasses.

"They say the Sun Pepper is the liquid of the sun as well." Muscular replied.

Slash grinned. Watching the chips and Salsa sit down before them. "Finally!" Slash said grabbing a large chip carefully and scooping up some bubbling salsa. "itadakimasu!" He said gobbling it up and then happily savoring more. "Mmmm Mmmmm Mmmmm! It's as delicious as I remember! The Spice the little veggie bits all of it is too perfect! And it's like eating heaven AND the sun!" Slash cheered as everyone looked at him.

They each took a chip and scooped up some Salsa and ate it. The Minute they did it was like an inferno of hot molten steel and fire filled their mouths. Immediately everyone screamed as Satoshi rushed to the window and breathed out violet and indigo flames from his mouth.

April screamed rolling on the floor as Mayhem poofed himself into the Amazon River below the surface. Where it was silent.

Leo immediately pulled himself up from the table rushing around his speech slurred from his lips swelling. "MILF! MILF! MILF! MIIIILLLFFFF!" he screamed.

"Yes?" Asked several older woman Yokai.

"NOF VU!" Leo shouted as he rushed into the Kitchen and pulled out the nearest jug of milk he could cut open the top and chugged it all down as fast as he could before grabbing some ice for his lips and collapsing. Crawling up from the window to where Muscular was.

"Sorry Muscle man but I only have American money!" he muttered placing a five down before falling back.

Frida was now also downing milk that Kuro had brought out for them. Satoshi also dragged himself back to his seat. "Sorry you had to see that…." He muttered.

"Okay so there's things on the Menu without Sun Peppers, right?" April asked as Slash licked out the last of his bowl.

"Can I have more?" he asked immediately April, and the others shoved their bowls over to him. "Ooooh!" he cheered before immediately eating it all up.

After Dinner which had been much less spicy and very delicious. Frida had noticed Venus sitting out on the roof. Looking at the sky. Frida climbed out.

"May I sit with you?" Frida asked gently.

"You may." Venus offered as Frida sat beside him. After a few moments of silence. Venus suddenly spoke up.

"How does it not scare you?" Venus asked.

"What do you mean?" Frida asked. "Like fighting or…"

"No, your mutation. How do you not get scared from the ability to speak, read, and even….think beyond the moments."

"Oh," Frida replied never thinking about that before. "To be honest, I was a baby when I was mutated so I don't remember my time as a normal Turtle. For me being a mutant is normal. But since you were older it sounds like it wasn't for you."

Venus curled up her chin to her knees and nodded. "The World so is so much bigger then I ever could've imagined. And to think about tomorrow and yesterday. It's terrifying."

"You're still getting used to being a mutant just take it one day as a time. That's what I've been doing since my life had a massive change recently too. But just taking it one day at a time has been helping." Frida assured her smiling a little at the thoughts. "And My little brothers and Sister have been helping me too."

"One day at a time…." Venus muttered. "I think I can do that. Muscular and the people here have been really helping me. But sometimes…."

"Yeah, sorry about Leo, he can be a lot." Frida apologized.

"It's alright." Venus muttered. "He seems friendly."

"He is, if a bit annoying." Frida replied before getting an idea. "Oh I know!" she said pulling out a small book and handing it to Venus. "This is a pocket encyclopedia. It tells you a lot about the world. I don't really have a use for it anymore." Frida replied sheepishly.

"Why not?" Venus asked, tilting her head.

"Well, kind of because of this phone. It has the internet on it which is like a super encyclopedia." Frida explained.

"Does it know of Sun Peppers?" Venus asked.

"Only if you know where to look. This is also a Yokai encyclopedia, so it knows a lot of mystic stuff too." Frida assured.

"That's amazing can you tell me more?" Venus asked as Frida nodded the two talking into the night.

When Leo woke up, he noticed Slash sleeping with a stuffed Palm Tree tightly in his arms nuzzling it. Leo groaned sitting up and stretching before walking out to see Satoshi meditating. Leo got an idea. An awful idea! A Wonderfully Awful idea.

Immediately he snuck towards Satoshi and began poking him. Satoshi didn't move. He just kept meditating. Leo made faces at him. He could Satoshi growling a little his lips curling up quickly.

But he kept ignoring Leo who then go the idea of pulling out his swords looking right at the manbun on top of Satoshi's head. However, before he could swing his swords.

Satoshi immediately grabbed him and threw him out then threw his swords into the wall beside him where they stuck. Leo grinned at him.

"Was I disturbing you?" He asked as Satoshi slammed the door in his face.

Leo just flipped up grabbed his swords and went downstairs when he did there was screaming outside. He rushed outside to see the Gothano having practically covered The Fox farmer from the other day.

"Hellllp! HELLP MEEEE!" He sobbed wildly as Leo immediately opened a portal and grabbed him pulling him through the portal. As Satoshi jumped out of the window from the room, he was in Gunshin in hand and slashing the Gothano who had turned towards Leo and the farmer who was now clinging to him.

With one powerful slash of his sword a burst of white and blue flame erupted there was a hideous screeching from the Gothano was it took off towards the mountain behind the city as many people rushed back in their houses, children crying to their parents as the doors boarded shut.

Everyone else rushed out of the house to see it fly off as the Fox Yokai whimpered muttering madly. "There's was nothing left. We're gonna die! There was nothing left, we're all gonna die! There was nothing left, we're all gonna die! There was nothing left, we're all gonna die!" he muttered over and over as Leo struggled to get up. Fortunately, April was there and helped them both to their feet as they lead him into the house helping him to calm down. Everyone else was awake and up now in the main building to see the commotion.

"There, there Riki just rest! It's over now, the Guard will prevent the end." Muscular promised as they led him inside the restaurant. They sat him down and got him some tea. "There you go with just a hint of sun pepper for a bit of healing."

Riki took a sip after Venus placed a blanket on him. When he did, he immediately screamed, unleashing a burst of fire from his mouth. Everyone watching in shock from it. When Riki sighed though the color seemed to return to his face as he muttered a thanks and laid back in the booth he was in.

"So do the Peppers, forged, from the hottest part of the sun helpful for traumatic experiences?" Leo asked a bit sardonically but also stunned.

"Yes, the Pepper helps physically and emotionally. And that quick thinking with your Portal magic well done on your cleverness Peppino!" Muscular praised.

"Why did it go after him?" April asked when she noticed Riki was asleep.

"The Gothano is drawn to those with deep feelings of darkness and bitterness in their hearts. That's who it passes the information too. Did anything happen to him recently?" Satoshi asked.

Muscular sighed, "Riki's brother passed away recently, in a terrible accident he has been frustrated that life has gone on without him. It's sad but every individual is merely a grain of sand in the beach of life."

"That's depressing." Leo muttered.

"Yes, it is, but Riki is a good man! He would never want to end the world just because it continued even if it's left him and his brother behind! And he is still grieving his brother. In his right mind he loves life."

"So, you doubt he'd be an apocalypse trigger?" Satoshi replied.

"Ci." Muscular replied.

"Hmmm just a thought but could the Gothano be messing with us?" Leonardo asked.

"What do you mean?" Satoshi asked as everyone turned their attention to him.

"Like is it keeping us guessing so it can't be stopped?" Leo asked.

"Confusing us would slow us down." April pointed out.

"It would, I'll speak to Grandfather on it's behavior. In the meantime, we need to find it." Satoshi replied.

"Uhhh…" Venus muttered. "The mountain it went up there."

"Then let's go! Everyone move out!" Satoshi said marching out the door as Leo groaned.

"What about sun salsa on breakfast burritos?!" Slash protested.

"Slash! I said move out! That's an order!" Satoshi growled running out the door as everyone else followed Venus looking worried for them.

Satoshi had quickly led them through the area they were back in the large jungle this time the back of Eldorado behind them. Peppers growing in vines all up the buildings and walls. They were climbing up the mountain. Soon they saw a large cave where Mayhem sniffed and barked.

"There it is!" Slash shouted as the Gothano looked over at them. Leo immediately jumped through one of his portals appearing in front of the Gothano.

He swung his arms a blue light appearing in the middle of the Gothano. "You've been-huh!?" he gasped when he saw that nothing happened. "Wait why aren't you portal- AGHHH!" Leo screamed.

The last thing he heard was everyone screaming his name as he was suddenly barraged with images of a waste land with large shredder like monsters that shone bright red light before feeling an intense heat engulf him as his world went black.

The next thing he saw was the skeletons of his siblings. He gasped rushing over to Raph's skeleton than Mikey's finally Donnie's which he held hyperventilating. "NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOO!" he screamed uncharacteristically before his mouth lit up with fire and brimstone that erupted from his mouth as he screamed as he sat up screaming.

He then began blathering an unintelligible combination of English and Spanish with some squealing in there. "Leo!" April said rubbing his back with Frida. "Breathe it's okay…you're fine it was just a nightmare."

"Which might confirm Leonardo's theory." Master Azulong's voice came suddenly.

"Ven diff uugghhh!" Leo groaned using a portal to grab ice for his swollen lips. "When did Master Azulong get here!" he asked looking around to see that he was in a cave probably the one they had seen with a large lake inside before remembering the sensation in his mouth. "AND WHO FED ME SUN PEPPERS!?" He snapped irritably.

"Hello…" Venus said sheepishly waving at him, Kuro beside her.

"Sorry but you needed it." Satoshi replied. "And my grandfather is still in Oaishu. But he got in touch with us right after Slash and Frida injured the Gothano and made it hide in the caves somewhere."

"So Gothano is portal chop proof greaaaattt." Leo groaned.

"And it is as you said. The Gothano might seek to confuse you. But using visions of the Apocalypse it wishes to cause in order to invoke fear and incapacitation is just as much as a defense mechanism for it. The Sun pepper will do well to help with your health." Azulong warned. "But you might be able to use this to your advantage."

"How so?" Slash asked.

"Perhaps if make we make our own negativity, we can use it to lure it out!" Frida replied. "There's negativity in my Ninpo! We can use it as bait!"

"Alright it's a plan." Satoshi replied.

"Hey, hold on a minute!" April began when something began rising out of the water, scaring everyone there Leo yelped as they jumped away from the shore.

"AHHHH IT'S LOOKING AT ME!" Leo shouted, pulling out his swords and holding them in front of him spastically. What they saw was a large sea monster-like creature with the body of a manatee but long flippers, large tusks and a huge horn at the top of it's head with a grey color.

The only one brave enough to step forward was Venus.

"Venus get back here!" Kuro snapped.

"It's alright," she said mostly to the creature. Which lowered it's head sniffed her once before nuzzling her and looking at her with pleading eyes. Sniffling wildly at a box she had at her side.

"Oh, you want a Sun burrito? Here!" she said holding out the burrito with a soft muffled glow from it. Leo instantly knew it was what he had been fed with. Especially when he saw Slash reach out sadly for it.

"You already had six!" Satoshi hissed at him. Slash sighed sadly as the creature gobbled the rest up and trilled happily.

"Oh, look at that! It's just as much of a Spice-resistant freak as Slash." Frida noted.

"You're just jealous because you can't enjoy it's glory." Slash declared.

"If you throw yourself at the Gothano for more Sun Pepper dishes I swear!" Satoshi growled.

Venus suddenly laughed when the creature licked her happily and nuzzled her. "I shall call you Mystery."

"That's a cute name. Reminds me of SpongeBob but it works." Leo noted. They sat with the creature for a minute unaware that someone else was looking at her specifically at the creature's horn and tusks.

"They're beautiful…" said a scared human face with blue crazed eyes looking directly at their target. "I. must. Have. Them!"

The next chapter will be longer but if it gets too long I'll split it into two
