Chap 3
Drac woke up suddenly and shot up in his bed. He caught his breath not sure why he was so winded. Looking around he noticed he was in his room at Auradon Prep, he did still have one more year of classes with Carlos since they were a year younger then the others, but. . . he didn't remember falling asleep here. He'd gone to bed back at Bargain Castle, back on the Isle. So. . . why was he in Auradon? And more importantly. . . where was all his stuff?
Looking around he noticed the room might be the same dorm but it was generic. The same bedding on both cots, dark green and navy blue with a yellow MA monogram. His perch for Diaval was gone, Carlos' laptop wasn't where it usually was, their backpacks weren't on the table. The closet door was open and had several uniforms sitting in a neat row, but none of their clothes were there. Not even the pastel shades he'd wear to Ambassador meetings. A knot formed in his stomach and he knew something was up.
He left the room and headed down the hall. It was empty, not a single student. Maybe. . . everyone was in class? He headed toward the hall that connected the dorms to the school, the one that had the principal's office. Uma was going to be principal now, and a wicked glimmer entered his blue eyes. He felt around his pocket and felt a small can of spray paint there. Uma was a VK at heart, she'd appreciate a well-meant initiation prank - as long as he didn't go too far. But as long as he avoided the name Shrimpy Uma was good with practically anything else.
He shook the can and began to spray down the halls humming to himself.
I don't care about my reputation!
Just like back home on the Isle he danced rhythmically down the corridor spraying the walls as he went. He stopped mid spin to face one head on making a high arch of purple over his head, the skull was natural to him, the zig zagging lines of the dragon's horns and teeth resembled the same graffiti he'd done all along Woeful Way.
Living in the past, it's a new generation!
He gave the dragon a spurt of green flames shooting from their mouth before he turned and made a pair of wings on the opposite wall. When he was finished he turned back around, for a brief second his artwork looked like the leathery wings sprouted right out of his purple jacket like a dark angel.
And I don't care about my bad reputation, oh no, not me.
Pushing forward he cartwheeled once and landed perfectly on his feet as his hood fell off exposing his short lime green hair. He didn't pay much attention to the pictures he sprayed over – if he did he would have noticed he didn't recognize any of the students in them.
Then he heard a tap, tap, tap from behind him. The unmistakable sound of heeled shoes approaching. He spun with a smirk not afraid of getting caught and more ready to brag when the woman making the footsteps rounded the corner. She had an air of confidence that exceeded even Mal's.
Her red lips smiled as if she was amused as her cateye-lined eyes took in his appearance. Her own outfit was edgy in a way only a kid from the Isle would dress. Her pants were mainly black but several belts in black, red and white leather overlapped around her hips. One was made of braided leather while another had dalmatian print. She wore a white shirt that hugged her shoulders leaving them bare and it was tucked into a corset that ran from her lowest rib to her waist. The corset was all dalmatian print with black and white laces criss-crossing up the middle. She had burgundy boots so dark red they were almost black and a matching thick headband was worn over her black and white hair which was pulled into a fishtail braid that fell over one shoulder. The sleeves of her shirt had been pushed up to just under her elbows showing a leather cord bracelet wrapped around one wrist and on her other hand was a black fingerless leather glove with a logo that looked like an intersecting V and C in red thread on the back.
Drac's smile fell.
"Who are you supposed to be?" he asked, knowing from her half black half white hair who her parent must be – but Carlos didn't have a sister, Drac was certain of that.
She chuckled like he was being silly, "I'm Camilla DeVil, darling."
And I'm never gonna care about my bad reputation, oh no, not me!
Camilla played with the end of her fishtail braid as she looked him up and down. Who was this little boy trying to fool? He had short lime green hair and dressed in dark purple. Little dragon wings decorated the shoulders of his coat while the rips in his black pants had been repaired with green and electric blue fabrics. She quirked a brow, Mal didn't have a brother, and it took a real lunatic to fake being related to Maleficent and Hades.
He straightened his back, stiffened and his blue eyes glowed bright green just like Mal's. Camilla's eyes widened but not in fear, rather, in astonishment. No faker could imitate Mal's magic. But even Mal couldn't do what the boy did next – lighting a ball of lime green fire in the palm of his hand.
At seeing her reaction, his smirk returned, and he looked just like Hades.
Her eyes quickly flashed to the walls hoping to find a sword or a shield she could grab to defend herself. But at that exact moment they heard a voice out the window.
"What just happened? Where did everybody go?"
Both of them ran to the window behind Camilla but the lines in the panes made it hard to see. Dashing down the left corridor both she and the boy made the same turns - like they'd both been here before. He might have, she wasn't sure, all she knew was she'd felt her room in the ship start to rock violently side to side and when she fell out of bed she landed in a hallway here.
They found a stone hall with glassless windows that looked down on the school courtyard. Below there were two girls, one with bright red hair like Camilla's favorite lipstick and another girl with dark chocolate curls.
"It works." the redhead said sounding amazed.
"What works?" the brunette asked sounding shaken. "Where are we?"
"Not where. When."
"When?"
"When?" both she and the boy repeated at the same time then looked to each other. He quirked a brow, "Are you from here?"
She shook her head, "You?"
"Nuh-uh."
"Bippity Boppity Boo." they looked back down and noticed another girl sitting under a tree with a book in her lap and. . . Fairy Godmother's wand! "Bippity Boppity Boo!"
Her book shot off her lap as she gasped.
"No! I wanted to speed read not for my reading to speed off!" she marched over to retrieve the book, putting her in the path of the two girls.
"Hi! Excuse me!" the brunette got her attention, "Where did everybody go?"
"Every-who?"
"All the royal families of Auradon, they were just here." the brunette explained.
"What's Auradon?"
Camilla and the boy looked at each other again and silently mouthed the question back at each other. It wasn't possible for someone to have not heard of Auradon. He turned and waved her over, both of them making their way to the stone stairs.
"Sorry! I gotta go catch my homework." the girl said as she ran after her book.
"Everyone's heard of Auradon." the brunette said questioningly. "And the only person who says Bippity Bopptiy Boo is Fairy Godmother."
"Maybe she's not a godmother yet."
"What do you mean?"
"Look around you! Fairy Godmother stinks at magic. Auradon doesn't exist. Which means. . . Really? I thought you were smart." she insulted the girl before looking around, "We're back in time."
The brunette chuckled nervously, "No. . . Wait. No! How!?"
The redhead held up the watch in her hand, "This, is a time machine."
"You're joking."
"Does it look like I'm joking?"
"Why would you take us back in time?"
"I was about to ask the same thing." Camilla spoke up causing the two girls to turn to her and the boy who walked out behind her and slowly approached them. Camilla crossed her arms and looked like she expected an answer.
"If I had to guess." the boy said, "That thing does more then rewind time."
The redhead looked to the watch in her hand with wide eyes like she was just realizing how much power she was holding.
Meanwhile the brunette shook her head. "What makes you say that?"
The boy turned to Camilla looking at her hair again. "Let me guess. . . Camilla. . . Cruella's daughter?"
Camilla shifted her weight to one hip and smirked, "What's it to you?"
But her intimidation didn't work on him. "Because in the Auradon that I come from, Cruella only has a son. Not a daughter."
"Well where I come from Mal doesn't have a brother."
"Really?" he chuckled, "You're missing out."
Ok, she might actually like this kid a bit.
He turned back to the girls and took a few steps closer, "Queen of Hearts daughter?"
The redhead nodded, "Princess Red, but if you call me princess you'll lose your tongue."
"Don't you mean his head?" Camilla joked.
Red rolled her eyes, "Oh that's so original."
"We just met darling, give me an hour, the barbs will get better." she smirked.
"And. . . Cinderella's daughter?" the boy asked.
She nodded and held out her hand, "Chloe Charming."
"Drac." he shook her hand, "Son of Maleficent. . . and Hades."
Camilla clapped her hands together, "Well, now that we've all gotten to make some new friends." she said sarcastically before turning to Red, "Why are we here?!"
"I have no idea. I didn't take any of you back in time with me. You" she turned to Chloe, "just grabby grabbed your way in. And this was not what I had in mind. . . I just wanted to stop my mom."
"Well what about my mom? You sentenced her to death!"
"Impressive." Camilla nodded. Drac on the other hand looked more concerned.
"Maybe not my finest moment, but, I'm going to fix it."
"How?"
Red sighed, "I thought the watch would take me back a couple minutes so that I could steal my mom's deck of cards. Not a couple decades."
"But we need to go back and save my mom." Chloe insisted.
"No, the watch sent us to this time for a reason." Red denied turning to Camilla and Drac, "And maybe. . . we need you guys to help us do it."
"Why?" Drac asked, "We're not even from your universe, much less your time. And I have a kingdom that needs a leader." he hadn't forgotten his mother's warning. There were some villains who were trying to cook up some trouble and with Mal gone this was not a good time for him to disappear.
Camilla shrugged, "I've got nowhere else to be." she didn't need to go back and worry about trying to reconnect with her mom right now. And. . . it seemed Red was in a similar boat with her mother.
Drac turned to her, "We need to get back where we belong. My version of Auradon and the Isle just got united, it's not failing on my watch."
Camilla scoffed and sang, "How naïve of you two, to still believe you'll get a happy ever after. A privileged little princess." She looked at Chloe then turned back to Drac, "And a fairy-fail disaster."
"Spoken like a slacker, Camilla, you're seeing someone else." Drac replied before Chloe jumped in.
"Yeah I worked hard for every single trophy sitting on my shelf."
"You need help." Red chuckled looking at the daughter of Cinderella.
"You're a poser with a bad attitude." Drac told Camilla.
She sneered. "That's not true, you don't know the things that I've been through." for a moment Carlos flashed through her mind.
"Neither do you." Drac said stepping up and looking like he was about to challenge her.
"Well then tell me, little goody two-shoes." Red said swinging the watch from its chain. "What do you think we should do?"
Chloe rested her hand on her sword and Camilla realized she didn't have hers. "I'll tell it to you straight to your face. There isn't any time left to waste. My kingdom back home needs to be saved. Give me the pocket watch or you're getting slayed. You best behave."
She lunged for the watch and the two girls started a tug-o-war over it.
"Give me that watch!"
"You're out of your league princess." Red replied flipping over Chloe. They both ran out of the courtyard, Chloe hot on Red's heels. Drac and Camilla exchanged a look before taking off after them.
I'm running out of hope, running out of time
I'll do what it takes just to change your mind
Or we'll cross swords, hope not to die
We're on opposite sides in the fight of our lives.
The girls ended up in an underpass that ran under another second floor hallway. Chloe put her sword to Red's throat but the redhead didn't seem nervous. In fact, she smiled.
"What are you gonna do now? Run me through and steal my watch? I think there's a word for that actually, it starts with a v. . . oh yeah, villain."
Chloe eyed the watch but then it was consumed in a puff of dark green smoke. They turned and saw Drac standing there, a puff of smoke dissipating in his hand and revealing the watch. He smirked at them then turned and ran off. Just as he was at the archway to exit the courtyard Camilla stepped around from behind it, crossing her arms and blocking his way out.
Behind him Red jumped onto a table, Chloe behind her, sword still drawn and on Drac's opposite side Camilla was slowly closing in. Casually, like she knew she had nothing to worry about.
"Use your brains." Red said. "Going back would just cause more pain. We agree we gotta make a change. Defeat the queen above everything." She raised a fist in the air before leaping off the table and landing in the grass approaching him. "You're on my side or you're in my way. You wanna leave but I got to stay. There's a reason we're here today. For past, present and future sake, wait!"
She ran for him but was pulled back by Chloe and the two began to circle each other again. "Got too much at stake to go home."
"That's not true." Chloe said.
"Guess I'm gonna do it on my own."
"I'm here too." Camilla reminded her.
"You're not gonna catch me if I fall."
"Got me runnin' on these walls." Camilla sang as she looked to her right, darted and grabbed a flag off the wall. She spun it and the flag fell off basically giving her a spear to fight with. "Dippin', flippin', somersaults. 'Bout to risk it all."
Drac saw an opening as Camilla grabbed her weapon so he ran as Camilla hit her spear against Chloe's sword taking her attention off Red as the two began to duel. Princess versus pirate.
I don't need your help, 'cause the watch is mine
If you hear me out, then you'll change your mind
Let's not cross swords, hope not to die
'Cause we're on opposite sides in the fight of our lives
Red chased Drac through the underpasses and over tables. Her parkour was even better then Jay's and he had trouble staying ahead. He could use magic to get himself out, but he'd feel bad about leaving Chloe behind. He just wasn't that selfish. Maybe his mom was right, he needed to be stronger, tougher, if Auradon was to survive under his watch.
While he was distracted Red caught up somehow and jumped on him, he fell into the grass on his stomach but Chloe had also parried Camilla's makeshift weapon and turned from her fight and held out her hand. He tossed her the watch which she caught and took off with. Red got off of him and tried to chase after her but he grabbed her ankle and sent her sprawling to the ground too. Camilla however, caught up with Chloe and reengaged her in their duel. She met the princess stroke for stroke as they fought up a staircase and when she had Chloe's sword blocked with one end of the spear she used the other to wrap the chain from the watch and pull it from her hand. Unfortunately it went flying and got caught on a gargoyle.
Change the future in the past
We gotta move forward where we're at
The moment is now, but it won't last
If we're on opposite sides in the fight of our lives
Chloe ran down the steps and Camilla vaulted over the rail right beside Drac and Red who both had just gotten off the ground.
Chloe sighed, "Let me ask you something, why should I trust you? Your mom just staged a violent coup. For all I know, you're gonna stab me in the back too."
"Think what you want to, I'm nothing like my mom. Her power trip was way too strong, I knew that she was wrong."
"Well, maybe we'll get along, maybe we're not that different." Chloe shrugged.
"Maybe we need each other to complete the same mission." Drac finished.
"I'm glad you put your pride aside to make the right decision." Camilla said.
"We'll work together until history is rewritten."
"We'll work together until history is rewritten."
"We'll work together until history is rewritten."
"We'll work together until history is rewritten."
We might not be a team, but we gotta try
Did you change your heart, or just change your mind?
So cross our swords, hope not to die
I'm kinda surprised, are we on the same side?
Red and Chloe ran over to where the watch was dangling from the gargoyle. Camilla joined them and they each bent a leg in front of them that she stepped up onto. Using the spear she tried to knock down the watch but the staff was just a few inches too short.
Change the future in the past
We gotta move forward where we're at
The moment is now, but it won't last
So we're on the same side in the fight of our lives
Then the watch was pulled up and they all looked and saw Drac had used magic to transport himself where he appeared straddling the gargoyle and now had the watch in his hands. He shook it with a smile, then dropped it down into Camilla's waiting hand. Red and Chloe helped her get down to the ground safely and she passed it back to Red.
Fight of our lives
The fight of our lives
We're on the same side
