Dig Those Diglett!
We join our heroes as they are walking somewhere in the mountains.
"We sure have travelled a long way" Brock said
"Yeah. We've seen tons of places. I wonder where we should go now" Misty added
"What's our next destination, boys?" Green asked Jake and Ash
"That's easy. We have to go to the next gym so we can get another badge" Ash replied
"What he said" Jake added
"Well, Fuchsia gym isn't too far from here." Brock said
"Where is it?" Misty asked
"Over the mountain" Brock answered
The gang looked around to know which mountain Brock was talking about
"Which mountain?" Green asked
Brock takes out his map and looks at it
"The map says the Fuchsia gym's on the other side of one of those mountains right over there." he said
"Over where exactly?" Jake asked
Ivysaur and Cubone cocked their heads to the side
"Hmmm. Is it this way? Or that way? Or maybe it's that way. Oh, great. We're surrounded by mountains on every side!" Brock groaned
"Don't tell me we're lost again." Misty said
"Okay, I won't tell you." Brock said
This caused Jake to face palm while Ivysaur, Cubone, and Pikachu look down.
"Wait a minute! It looks like there's a road here" Brock said as he looked at the map
"Well, let's hit it!" Ash said
And the gang heads down the lane
The gang continue to head down the lane until an explosion was heard that made the ground rumble and knocking them off their feet. They got back up when it was over
"I wonder what that was" Misty wondered
"It really shook us up" Green said
"It sounded like a loud explosion" Jake added
Another explosion was heard
"It's over there!" Ash said
The gang then begin to follow the source of the sound. They continue to run until they came across a road where they see several trucks driving over to a construction site while an explosion happened on a rock wall. All of a sudden, a truck got caught in a hole resulting in the other trucks to crash into each other as they all got caught in holes too. The gang was shocked
"What a wreck!" Misty yelled
"Talk about a collision course!" Jake yelled
"Oh no!" Green yelled
"This is terrible!" Brock yelled
"Ivysaur!" Ivysaur shouted
"Cubone!" Cubone yelled
Just then, Pikachu heard something from underground. Even Ivysaur and Cubone heard it too. The source of the sound pop up from the ground. It was a brown mole like Pokémon.
"Diglett"
Pikachu comes up to it and tries to talk to it, but the Diglett just popped back in the ground much to the confusion of Ivysaur and Cubone. Just then, a man came out from one of the trucks. He is in fact the foreman of the construction site
"I just can't take it anymore!" he yelled
The gang runs up to him
"Are you alright?" Ash asked
"It's the Diglett! They're destroying everything!" the foreman complained
"Diglett?" Jake asked
"See? They're right over there!" the foreman said as he points to the left
The gang look to see a bunch of Digletts popping up from some holes
"Oh, look, how cute!" Misty said
"I second that" Green added
"You think they're cute, do you?! Thanks to them, we can't finish building that dam! I hate Diglett! I hate them!" the foreman yelled in frustration
"Hmmm. Diglett" Ash said as he takes out his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: Diglett. The movement of these Ground Pokémon can be easily detected by their tracks of upturned earth.
"Hmm. I don't see any upturned earth." Ash said as he looked at the concrete
"That's because the ground here is covered by concrete" the foreman angrilly explained "But if you look closely..."
Then cracks begin to form on the road
"They're underneath" Ash said
"The Digletts must be pretty strong" Jake said "I read somewhere that Digletts are considered to be helpful to farmers and sometimes a nuisance to them"
"It looks like a mini earthquake." Misty commented
"And it looks like we'll never be able to accomplish our dream of building the great Gaiva dam here in these mountains." the foreman said
"Gaiva dam?" Ash asked
"What's that" Jake asked
"Over there" the foreman said as he points to a construction site
"Alright! Let 'er rip!" a worker said
Another explosion was heard as part of another rock wall fell
"That blasting is part of building a dam?" Brock asked
"Yes, the blasting is part of building a dam! But we can't get supplies through because of Diglett!" the foreman shouted
"That is a problem" Brock said
"I never thought the Diglett would come into conflict with a construction site" Green said
"Ivysaur" Ivysaur said
"Cubone" Cubone added
The gang then looked at the toppled trucks
"We even created a special division for developing strategies to fight off the Diglett. We're calling for any able Pokémon trainer who's traveling through the area. Somebody with real Pokémon know-how who can help us get rid of these Diglett! The reward is a six night seven day stay at the famous Gaiva hot springs resort!" the foreman explained "If you know any Poké..."
"We're five able Pokémon trainers at your service." Ash said
"Huh?" Jake and Green puzzled
"Oh, so YOU'RE the first squad of trainers we called in!" the foreman assume
"Now hold on. There must be some kind of mistake. We were just passing through" Jake said
Suddenly, tire screeches were heard and who would show up, but Gary Oak and his entourage of girls along with some buses
"The first Pokémon trainers have arrived! The rest are in these buses." he said
"It's Gary" Ash and Jake said
"Huh? Who are.." Gary said before recognizing his rivals "Well, if it isn't little Ash and Jake from Pallet. What're you two doing here?"
"We happen to be passing through until we heard the explosion coming from here" Jake said
"It must just be an unlucky coincidence. Only the best were invited. Like me, Gary from the town of Pallet. The number one trainer!" Gary said arrogantly "Jake is third while Ash is fourth"
"Third?" Jake asked
"And I'm fourth?" Ash asked "Me and Jake are better than that!"
"While Jake is the third to leave home, you, Ash are the fourth to leave home. But as trainers, you are both third and dead last" Gary said
Ash was shocked at what his rival said and slumped down while Jake glared angrily at him. Green then steps in
"Hey! You can't talk to them like that!" she scolded
"Well well well." Gary said with interest "What's a girl like you hanging around with a bunch of losers like them when you can be with a real Pokémon trainer like me?"
"Those losers are my friends!" Green yelled "And I rather stick with them than hang around with an arrogant blowhard like you!"
As she said that, Green grabbed Jake by the arm. Jake was surprised as she did that. Gary was shocked but soon got over it quickly
"How about that? Jakey boy got himself a girlfriend" he teased
"Shut it, Gary!" Jake yelled with a blush
"Whatever" Gary said as he brushed it off "Now, watch as I step up to the plate, and hit a Pokémon grand slam"
"He's very..." Misty began
"Detestable" Brock said
"And as I said: arrogant" Green said with a glare in here eyes "Not to mention egotistical"
"Yeah. He was always like that every since our childhood" Jake said
"So, Ash, have you and Jake picked up any good Pokémon?" Gary asked
"As a matter of fact, we did" Jake replied
"Yeah. You wanna see?" Ash asked
" No thanks, Ash. Only amateurs show off their Pokémon. If I was gonna show something off, it'd be my personal fan club." Gary bragged while gesturing to his fangirls who were cheering for him
"Are they Pokémon?" Ash asked
This earned him a whack on the head courtesy of Brock
"Don't be dumb!" the former Pewter Gym leader berated "So, who are the girls?"
"Oh, just some friends of mine." Gary answered
"They're nice friends. How would you lovely ladies like to get together with me sometime?" Brock asked the girls
"Yes, sir. That would be fun." they replied
"Yes sir?" Brock said puzzled
"Brock's over the hill already." Misty said
"I agree" Green added
"He's really crazy when it comes to girls" Jake added
"Okay, so they think I'm an old man, but I don't care. I'm desperate." Brock said
'Yeah. Desperately pathetic' Jake thought
"Could I have somebody's cell phone number, please?! Maybe an address?! Email?!" Brock pleaded
"Can we please get back to the business at hand?!" the foreman screamed "Somebody's got to get rid of these Diglett! Don't forget, a resort vacation!"
'Hmmm. This seems almost familiar' Jake thought
"Don't give it another thought, sir. Those Diglett are as good as gone now that Gary Oak is on the case." Gary said before getting in his car "So long losers!"
He then laughs as he drives off with his fans
"What a jerk" Green said with a huff
"What about those numbers?" Brock asked sadly
"We're losers?!" Ash yelled "I can't let him beat me! I can't!"
"Take it easy, Ash! We'll find a way to surpass him" Jake said
The gang then find themselves with a crowd of other trainers at the construction site
"We greatly appreciate all of you talented Pokémon trainers interrupting your training to come here and help us get rid of the Diglett!" the foreman said through a megaphone
"There sure are a lot of people here." Ash said
"What do you expect? They all want to stay at the hotel" Jake said
"You, with the Pikachu on your head! Listen with your ears, not with your mouth!" the foreman yelled
"You'd think the least he could do is yell at me by name." Ash said annoyed
" Don't be mad, he doesn't know what your name is." Misty said
"My name is Ash Ketchum, the loser from Pallet." Ash replied as he slumps down
"Snap out of it, Ash!" Jake yelled "We've accomplished a lot on our journey and won five badges".
"Don't listen to Gary! You and Jake can still catch up!" Brock said
"Yeah. Gary's just being a selfish jerk" Green added "He clearly doesn't know what he is talking about"
Ash felt better as he stood back up
"Thanks guys" Ash said
"No problem" Green replied
Then, a poster of a Diglett with an X over it was shown.
"Pokémon trainers, here you see Diglett, the greatest parasitic bug Pokémon of the century!" the foreman yelled
"Just a minute! Technically, Diglett is not a bug Pokémon. As a matter of fact, the term mole Pokémon would be more appropriate. With a height of eight inches, and a weight of two pounds, they're hardly candidates to be called the greatest anything of this century." Gary explained
"That showoff thinks he knows everything." Ash grumbled
"Like grandfather, like grandson" Jake said
"They may seem to be weak, but together, they can destroy." the foreman announced before spotting something from behind the crowd "It's the Diglett! It's the Diglett! "
And he was right, a Diglett was seen tunneling underground towards a bus and made it sink. The Digletts then appeared
"I'll take care of this!" Gary declared as his fans begin to cheer for him "Now everyone will be able to see the top Pokémon trainer in action!"
He takes out a Poké Ball and kisses it for good luck
"This should do the trick!"
Gary throws the Poké Ball which lands in front of the bus. The Poké Ball opens but the Pokémon goes back inside before it can materialize
"Hey what!?" the grandson of Professor Oak yelled in shock
Everyone was stunned
"What just happened?" Green asked
"It won't come out!" Ash said "What's wrong?"
"That's never happened before" Jake pondered
A Diglett tunnels over to Gary and returns his Poké Ball to him
"Oh thanks" he said before realizing what happened "Wait! This can't happen! Okay, I can take care of this! I'll just bring out, my best Pokémon! You can handle it!"
He takes out another Poké Ball and kisses it three times "Go get em!"
Gary throws it, but just like before the Pokémon inside the Poké Ball refuses to come out
"What's going on here!?" Gary yelled in surprise before throwing more Poké Balls "Alright, I'll show em! I'll use every Pokémon I have!"
"Please, somebody stop them! Stop the Diglett!" the foreman roared
All of the other trainers tossed out their Poké Balls, but all of their Pokémon refuse to come out. The Diglett then return the Poké Balls to their respective owners.
"At least their polite" Misty said
"Yeah, and unstoppable." Brock added
"Ha! Alright, now it's my turn. As long as they're underground, I'm gonna use Squirtle." Ash said as he took out Squirtle's Poké Ball " I choose you!"
"Pika!" Pikachu said as he attempts to stop Ash
"I can't stop now!" Ash said as he threw the Poké Ball
But like the others, Squirtle refuse to battle the Digletts
"It almost came out" Ash said
"I just don't understand. Why won't the Pokémon battle the Digletts?" Green asked
"Hmmm" Jake said before turning to his Pokémon "Ivysaur? Cubone? If I asked you to battle the Digletts, would you do it?"
Ivysaur and Cubone both shook their heads
"Thought so" Jake sighed
"They won't come out" Gary said
"Huh?" Ash puzzled
"For some reason, the Pokémon don't want to battle the Diglett." Gary explained
"Why wouldn't they battle?" Ash asked as a Diglett gives him Squirtle's Poké Ball
"I just can't figure it out" Gary replied
"Is that right Pikachu?" Ash asked
"Pikachu" Pikachu said with a nod
The foreman was attempting to hit the Digletts with a hammer, but he misses each time
"You won't get away with this! Go away!" he yelled
"That won't work! Diglett can pull their heads in at 186,282 miles per second!" Gary explained
"What's that?" Ash puzzled
"The speed of light. Diglett aren't very strong, but they can move super fast." Gary explained
"Wow. You have been studying" Ash said
" Yeah, I've been studying, unlike you." Gary said which causes Ash to fall over "Well, that's it. I'm gone. Look, since no one's Pokémon will come out and battle, there's no reason for any trainers to be here unless they wanna watch this arcade game."
Ivysaur and Cubone both watched as the foreman still attempts to whack the Digletts. It was a little amusing for them to watch this
" I, on the other hand, must continue my journey to become a Pokémon master." Gary said as he got in his car "Hasta la vista, Poké-people! Come on, fans! Get in the car and let's hit the road, shall we?"
Gary's fan got in the car
"Good luck!" he called as he drove away
"I don't like him" Ash groaned
"Girls? Those numbers?" Brock asked
Annoyed, Green bonk Brock in the head
"Oh give it a rest!" she yelled
That night, the gang changed into their swim suits and were relaxing in the hot springs. Cubone and Pikachu were watching them from the surface
"Ah, this is relaxing. Right Jake?" Green asked as she lays her head on Jake's shoulder
"Uh huh. It sure is" Jake replied while blushing
"Saur" Ivysaur as it relaxed in the spring
"There's nothing like a hot bath." Ash said
"But, something doesn't feel quite right." Misty said
"Don't complain, we got into this place for free, didn't we?" Brock pointed out
"No, it's not that" Misty replied
"Then, what's wrong?" Ash asked
"I can't understand why the Pokémon wouldn't come out of their Pokéballs." Misty said
"Me neither" Green added
"Oh yeah" Ash realized
"Some Pokémon are part of nature. And the Digletts are mostly associated with the soil" Jake said "Maybe it has something to do with that"
"Hmmm" Ash said before turning to Pikachu "Why was that, Pikachu?"
Pikachu points to some rocks where some Digletts appeared behind them
"Diglett!" Ash said
He along with his friends got up from the hot springs
"Ash, shouldn't we put some clothes on first?" Brock asked
"He has a point. We can't go after the Digletts in our swimsuits" Green added
"Ivysaur. Cubone. Pikachu. Go on ahead and follow those Digletts. We'll catch up" Jake said to the Pokémon
The Pokémon nod their heads and follow after the Digletts. The gang put their clothes back on and follows after the Digletts while passing the foreman who is still trying to attack the other Digletts. The gang continues to follow the Digletts deep into the forest. Jake then took notice of the Digletts carrying some tree branches
'I wonder what they're for' he thought
The gang continued through the woods until they came upon a large garden where they see the Digletts and a mole Pokémon with three heads tending to the soil whil planting the tree branches. The gang was amazed by the landscaping they have done. Ash then takes out his Pokédex and scans the three headed mole Pokémon
Ash's Pokédex: Dugtrio, the evolved form of Diglett. No specific information available.
"Oh, now I get it! This must be Diglett and Dugtrio's home!" Brock said
"Their home?" Ash asked
"Yeah, they work and live here together. Diglett plows the ground, and Dugtrio plants the trees. And not just here, this whole mountain range is there backyard!" Brock explained
"This whole mountain?" Jake asked
"Yeah, maybe. Probably all the forests in the entire world are.." Brock said
"Beautiful gardens made by these little guys." Misty finished
"Wow" Green said amazed
Just then, the foreman came up
"And if we complete the dam, this whole mountain forest would be completely covered with water!" he said in realization
"Yes. Not only will the mountain be flooded, but all the Pokémon living here would be driven out of their homes" Jake said
"Nothing could ever live here." the foreman lamented
" All of our Pokémon realized that before we did." Brock said
"That explains why the Pokémon won't come out of their Poké Balls even when they were ordered to" Green realized
"As I said: Pokémon are part of nature" Jake said
Ivysaur and Cubone nod their heads as they watched the Digletts and Dugtrios
"I guess we humans still have a lot to learn from the ways of the Pokémon. Right, Ash?" Brock asked Ash
" I guess so. Huh, Pikachu?" Ash asked his Pikachu
"Pikachu" Pikachu said
"This project's cancelled. I won't build the dam." the foreman said sadly
"Glad you learned that lesson, sir" Jake said
"Well, I think I learned my lesson, Pikachu." Ash said
"Your lesson is just beginning!" Jessie called out
This got everyone's attention
"Oh no!" Jake and Green groaned
They all look up to see Team Rocket
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
"Jessie"
"James"
"Dey know de rest." Meowth said
This caused Jessie and James to stop reciting their motto
"Oh, Team Rocket. I forgot about them." Ash said
"They're always showing up when they're not wanted" Jake grumbled
"Ivysaur" Ivysaur said
"Cubone" Cubone added
"Sorry, guys. But we're not in the mood for you right now, okay?" Ash said
"Tsk tsk tsk tsk. But we're in a good enough mood for everyone." Jessie retorted
" Yes, and we never even had lunch! But now we have a special treat for all of you!" James added
"A treat with an sensational and exciting new flavor!" Jessie said
"For the first time on TV.." Meowth said
Ash and Jake looked at each other in confusion
"We're proud to present.." Jessie began
"Our new Pokémon!" James finished
"Our Ekans has evolved into, Arbok!" Jessie said
Jessie's new Arbok comes out of it's Poké Ball
"And Koffing is now...Weezing!" James said
His new Weezing appeared from it's Poké Ball
Jake and Green took out their Pokédexes and scans them
Jake Pokédex: Arbok, the Cobra Pokémon and the evolved form of Ekans. It is rumored that the ferocious warning markings on its belly differ from area to area.
Green's Pokédex: Weezing, the Poison Gas Pokémon and the evolved form of Koffing. It lives and grows by absorbing dust, germs and poison gases that are contained in toxic waste and garbage.
"Even if they evolved, we'll still beat you as always" Jake said
"We'll see about that" Jessie said "Arbok, maximum power!"
Arbok charges in
"We can handle this! Right?" Ash asked
"Pika?" Pikachu said
"We sure will" Jake said as he came up next to Ash with Ivysaur and Cubone by his side
"Charmander! Squirtle! Bulbasaur!" Ash said as he lets out all of his starter Pokémon
"Ivysaur get em!" Jake yelled
Ivysaur charges into battle to face off against Arbok and Weezing
"Everyone go!" Ash commanded
"Weezing, Smog!" James ordered
Weezing shoots Smog from it's holes
"Pikachu, use your Thunderbolt!" Ash ordered
"Ivysaur, use Razor Leaf!" Jake ordered
Pikachu unleashes Thunderbolt on Arbok, but it dodges. Ivysaur then fires Razor Leaf on Weezing, but it dodges too.
"Arbok, dive underground!" Jessie ordered
"Weezing, follow it!" James added
Arbok goes underground while Weezing follows after it in the hole. The gang were on their guard as they waited for something to happen. Everyone then heard the Digletts and Dugtrios
"Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig."
"Trio, Trio, Trio"
"Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig"
"Trio, Trio, Trio"
"Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig, Diglett Dig"
"Trio, Trio, Trio" Jessie and James sang
Suddenly, fighting noises was heard and Arbok and Weezing are thrown out of the hole completely battered and bruised.
"What happened?!" Meowth asked in shock
" I know what's coming!" James said with worry
"Me too" Jessie added
Some Digletts and Dugtrios popped up out of the ground much to Team Rocket's horror.
"Looks like you made some gardeners really mad" Jake said
The Digletts and Dugtrios then formed a tidal wave made out of earth. The Team Rocket trio tries to get away, only to get caught in it. They then find themselves on top of the wave.
"We're surfing!" Jessie said
"Yes! We're curling the chute!" James added
"Cat-abunga!" Meowth yelled
"Hang ten, baby! Yeah, yeah!" they yelled as they surf the dirt wave
"Hey! What's that thing up ahead?!" Meowth asked as he spots something ahead
"Huh?" Jessie and James puzzled
They were heading straight to the construction site
"The dam!" Jessie yelled
"Maybe it won't hold!" James added
The wave crashed into the construction site
" It looks like Team Rocket's busted up again!" the Team Rocket trio cried as they fell
The gang and the foreman witnessed this
" Gee, those guys never seem to catch a break, do they?" Ash asked
" And they never learn their lesson." Misty added
"Mmmmhmmm" Green said
"Well what can you expect from bad guys like them" Jake said
"Saur" Ivysaur said
"Cubone" Cubone added
"Not like me. I definitely learned my lesson." the foreman said
"Glad to hear that" Green said
" So our stay wasn't a waste after all." Ash said
"That's right, and we're in luck. Fuchsia gym's right over those mountains." Brock said
"That's good news for us" Jake said "Our next gym challenge awaits!"
"Mmmmhmmmm" Ash said
The next day, the gang were on the road again. They took one last look at the mountain before heading of to their next destination.
