The first reincarnation in recorded history was a man by the name of Gol D. Roger, the self-proclaimed Pirate King. No one is quite sure how he came to be on Remnant, but he without a doubt had been the first to truly change the tides of what was now known as the old age.
He'd traveled across the four kingdoms, found his lost crewmates, slayed Grimm as if it were sport, fought the toughest this new world had to offer, and won with embarrassing ease. When all was said and done he had a ship built and sailed out into the ocean with a single vow.
"I'll be back when Joy Boy returns!"
And with that he departed never to be seen by anyone on Remnant again.
I don't own Ruby, or One Piece.
Roman Torchwick walked down the street of Vale feelin every bit the refined criminal he looked. Junior's boys, as professional as always, were right behind him. The tapping of his Melodic Cudgel came to a stop as he looked at the shop sign.
'From Dust Till Dawn'
Just what he was looking for. Tonight was feeling good.
Opening the door to the shop, he walked in, Juniors boys following behind. His eyes swept the room examining the beautiful dust shards around him until his eyes caught sight of something. In the corner of the room stood a cloaked figure, and a boy.
Well the cloaked figure was standing at least. The boy was half-leaned over the cloaked figure, snoring loudly without a care in the world. Roman examined him carefully.
'Blue shorts, Red sleeveless shirt, sandals, and a straw hat. He couldn't be a pirate, could he?'
Roman pondered the thought for a second before shaking his head lightly. Pirates, and Marines rarely showed up in Vale, mostly sticking to the other three kingdoms or the sea. It was probably just a boy who'd taken inspiration from the Pirates way of dressing. Nothing to worry about.
He turned his attention towards the old man behind the counter. Taking his cigar out of his mouth, he tapped it once, letting the ashes fall to the floor.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a dust shop open this late?" Roman asked crossing his arms.
One of the men to his left pulled out a gun aiming it at the old man who immediately held up his hands.
"Please, just take my Lien as leave."
"Shhh, shhh, shh, shh, shh. Calm down. We're not here for your money." Roman looked towards the man holding the gun, his voice firm and commanding as he spoke. "Grab the dust."
As the men moved to gather the dust Roman found himself looking back over to the boy, and cloaked figure. The still hadn't moved from there spots, nor made any acknowledgment that they understood what was going on around them. Shaking his head, he blew out a puff of smoke.
There was no reason to go around starting more trouble than needed. If the boy and girl didn't get in their way, then he was fine to let them go, he was on a tight schedule after all.
Ruby Rose was happy. She'd finally made it to 'From Dust Till Dawn' despite Luffy, her Fraternal Twin brother, and his bottomless appetite. The second she'd made her way over to the magazines, she put her hood up, turned her headphones on full blast, and waited. Luffy, predictably bored, leaned onto her as he fell asleep. She didn't mind, he was after all her twin brother, and the headphones helped block out his snoring.
The only thing that would make this moment better would be if she had cookies, but Mom had said no, and Ruby Rose was a good girl, who did as she was told, and maybe, might be thinking about having some when she got home. Suddenly, Ruby felt a tap on her shoulder. Her hood fell as she turned to see a man in a suit point to his ears. Getting the signal she took off her headphones.
"Yes?" Ruby asked politely.
"I said, put your hands in the air, now!" The Gangster said.
"Are you...robbing me?"
"Yes!"
"Oh."
The man tried to grab her and she kicked him in the chest hard enough that he flew across the store. After a second another man came, pointing a gun directly at her.
"Freeze!"
Using her semblance she shot forward, momentarily forgetting her brother as she jumped into the man, using his chest surfboard, as they sailed through the air, through the window, and finally onto the ground. She then pulled her weapon out and converted it into it's scythe form before pointing it at the other gangsters, a silent challenge.
"Okay." Roman looked at the two downed men before looking back at Red. "Get her."
His other men ran out as Roman turned to look at the boy still asleep on the ground. In a moment of curiosity he walked over and poked the boy with his Melodic Cudgel. The boy showed no visible reaction and Roman found his eyes wandering to the straw hat.
It was clearly old, yet surprisingly well made. He reached down to grab the hat and examine it closer, but just before he could touch it, the boys arm snapped up, grabbing his wrist in a tight hold. His eye caught the boys, an oddly powerful yet blank stare met his.
"Don't touch my hat."
Stomach, Ceiling, Floor. In a split instant Roman despised those things more than anything else as pain seared through his stomach. Despite the pain he forced himself up, if only to prove that the punch hadn't bothered him as much as he felt. The boy was already standing, his arm cocked back as far he could manage in the cramped store, farther than any arm should be able to go.
"Gum Gum."
In a moment of panic Roman raised Melodic Cudgel and shot a round of fire dust point blank into the boys face. The boys head snapped back, but his body didn't move. Through the smoke Roman saw a faint trail of blood on the boys lip, and a single eye staring back at him.
"Pistol."
The boys fist crashed into Roman's chest and he felt whatever was left of his aura dissipate as he flew through the store, out into the cold street, and finally into a building opposite of the dust shop. As his back hit the stone, a mix of blood, and saliva forced it's way out of his throat. His body fell to the ground and he just barely managed to catch himself on his shaky arms and legs as he tried to regain normal breathing.
'Well, mistakes were made.' Roman thought as he felt his chest.
He was pretty sure the punch had broken a few ribs, and he was pretty sure his aura was completely gone.
'I need time.' Roman thought as he tried using his Melodic Cudgel to stand.
The boy hopped out of the window and walked over to the Red who was doing victory poses in front of the downed bodies of juniors men.
"Oi Ruby, were being attacked."
"I know Luffy, come get a picture with me."
Roman watched in shock, and slight amusement as Luffy walked over to Ruby, both of them posing in front of the bodies as Ruby took a picture. They then looked directly at him.
"You know stealing is wrong, right?" Ruby asked.
Roman clicked his tongue in annoyance. He opened his mouth to respond when his eye caught Luffy looking at him intently.
"Oi girly-man."
Roman felt a vein on his forehead throb.
"You have the same hair color as Nami. Do you know where she is?" Luffy asked, his voice serious.
Nami. The name rang a bell somewhere in the back of his mind, but the memory of it was faint. Shaking his head, he stood.
"Afraid not, Straw hat. I assume you and well as this Nami are Reincarnates?"
"I'm not Rencarates, I'm Monkey D. Luffy, the Pirate King!"
Ruby giggled softly while Roman rolled his eyes.
"That answers that question, and you Red, a huntress-in-training I presume?"
"Yep." Ruby said, proudly.
Roman took a deep breath, feeling his aura starting to nurse his wounds.
"Well not that this hasn't been informative, but I'm afraid I must be going." Roman said pointing his Melodic Cudgel at their feet.
He fired two rounds, both Luffy, and Ruby moved quickly out of the blast radius.
"Where'd he go?" Ruby asked, looking around for wherever Roman had gone.
Luffy's eyes flashed red, and he looked over to Roman climbing a ladder.
"There." Luffy stretched his arms and grabbed onto the top of the building. "Come on Ruby."
"Will you be fine?" Ruby asked the shop owner.
The old man nodded and Ruby hopped into her brothers arms.
"Launch us, bro."
He did just that. Launching them on top of the building. Ruby did a little spin mid-air before landing, her weapon ready as he brother landed next to her. She heard Roman mutter something under his breath as he turned to face them standing at the roofs edge. Before she can say anything a Bullhead rises behind Roman and the hatch opens allowing him to hop inside.
"End of the line Red, Straw hat." Roman said, throwing a red crystal onto the ground at their feet.
He fires at it and Ruby feels Luffy grab her arm, his Haki covering them before suddenly stopping. She looks at her brother only to see him staring up at something. Just before the explosion happens, Ruby catches a streak of purple. She closes her eyes and waits, but the explosion goes off and she feels nothing. Opening her eyes she sees a woman standing in front of them protectively.
'A huntress.' Ruby thought, her eyes sparkling in admiration.
She looks to Luffy who's eyes are also sparkling, but not from admiration. He's looking directly at the purple circle in front of them.
"So cool! Hey Witch, do more."
The woman glances back, her stern eye looking directly at Luffy before she refocuses on the task in front of her. With a wave of her riding crop a bunch of purple streaks attacked the bullhead throwing Roman around. Roman then disappeared and a new opponent covered mostly by the shadows appeared.
Ruby watched, really watched as the huntress in front of her battled. She used her semblance masterfully, even when Roman disappeared and a new opponent came out she didn't waver, nor did she show any sign of struggling, instead she used her opponents power against her. Taking the debris made by the fireball and using it to relentlessly attack the bullhead.
The woman inside the bullhead seemed to have enough and destroyed all the debris in one huge burst of fire. Seeing her chance to help an actual huntress, Ruby converted her weapon in a gun, and started firing at the bullhead.
Annoyingly, the woman seemed to deflect her bullets with ease. The woman then waved her hands and Ruby looked down at the glowing symbols on the ground. Luffy unlike her, wrapped his arms around her waist and quickly jumped forward, taking her with him out of the explosion's radius.
They landed and watched as the Bullhead flew off, into the night sky. The second they were alone once more, Ruby turned towards the huntress.
"Your a huntress. Can I have your autograph?" Ruby asked, excitedly.
The huntress gave her a strict glare that made her hide behind her brother who was looking at the huntress confused.
"What's wrong Witch? Do you have to poop?"
The Huntresses scowled and Ruby knew they were in for a long night.
Ruby looked down at the table, unable to meet the eyes of the huntress as she walked around her and her brother in circles. Glancing over, she saw her brother snoring lightly away.
"I hope you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly young lady, young man!" The huntress slaps her riding crop against the table startling Luffy who fell out of his seat. "You put yourself and others in great danger."
"They started it!" Ruby protested.
"Oi witch. We beat girly-man. Why are you mad?" Luffy asked, getting back into his chair.
"I'm mad, because of the destruction you caused while doing so. Not to mention the fact that student's still in school shouldn't be trying to catch it were up to me, you'd be sent home... With a pat on the back..." Ruby smiles as she and Luffy look at each other. "And a slap on the wrist."
The Huntress slams her riding crop down near Ruby who quickly moves to hide behind her yawning brother.
"But... there is someone here who would like to meet you." The Huntress said, moving aside.
Ruby peaks out from behind Luffy to see a well dressed man in green come through the door, in his hands a plate of cookies that got her to perk up.
"Ruby Rose." The man leans in, studying her face. "You... have silver eyes."
"Uh, um-" Ruby sputters out, trying to find anything to say.
The man then turns towards her brother who meets the mans gaze head on.
"A Reincarnate. May I ask what your devil fruit is?"
Luffy scowls.
"My name is Monkey D. Luffy. I ate the Gum Gum fruit and became a rubber man." Luffy said, stretching his cheek to impossible lengths.
The man hums in curiosity before turning back to Ruby.
"So! Where did you learn to dothis?" The man asked, gesturing to a tablet showing Ruby fighting the gang members.
"S-signal academy." Ruby said, hesitantly.
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?"
"Well, one teacher in particular."
"I see." The man said, placing the cookies on the table.
Predictably, Luffy immediately tried to grab some, but Ruby slapped his hand away.
"Oi Ruby. Share." Luffy said.
Eyeing her brother skeptically Ruby pushed a few cookies across the table to him. She'd long since learned that it was better to give her brother a share than have him eat it all, even if she disliked having to give away her cookies. Once he was satisfied with her offering, she began eating her own cookies at a rapid pace.
"It's just that I've only seen one other scythe-wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow."
"Oh! That's my uncle!" Ruby muffles through the cookies in her mouth.
The man gives her a confused look and Ruby wipes her mouth embarrassed.
"Sorry. That's my Uncle ! He's a teacher at Signal. I was completegarbagebefore he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like— Hooowaaah! Witchaaaa!" Ruby said, practicing karate moves as Luffy laughed.
"So I've noticed." Ozpin places his cup down, shifting slightly as he notices Luffy staring at him intently. "And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"
"Well... I want to be a Huntress."
"You want to slay monsters?"
"Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at Signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon! You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, Hey, I might as well make a career out of it!" Ruby laughs to herself. "I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh, you know!"
"And what about you young man?" the man asked turning to Luffy who was picking his nose.
"Huh?"
"I've already figured out how you know how to fight, but tell me, what do you plan to do in the future?" The man asked.
"I'm gonna find my crew, and set sail."
"Are you insane?" The huntress said, worry clear on her face.
The man held up his hand turning to look at Glynda.
"Now Glynda, if he's truly from the other world, then he must know about the dangers of the sea." The man looked back at Luffy, his gaze more intense than before. "Young man, you are aware that the Yonko rule the seas are you not?"
Luffy met the mans gaze, a flicker of black lightning dancing behind his eyes.
"So what. I kicked their assess all over the New World, and I'll do it again." Luffy said, his tone firm.
"What did you say your name was again?"
"Monkey D. Luffy, the Pirate King."
The man stared at Luffy for a few seconds as if searching for something.
"Tell me, do you know who I am?"
Luffy's face scrunched and turned red as her stared at the man.
"Don't think to hard Luffy. He's Professor Ozpin, The headmaster of Beacon Academy." Ruby said.
"Oh, where Yang's going." Luffy said, seeming to have a breakthrough.
"Yeah." Ruby said, ruffling his hair.
Ozpin smiled watching the siblings interact.
"Just one more question. You want to come to my school?" Ozpin asked.
"More than anything." Ruby said.
Luffy shrugged. Ozpin looked back at Glynda who gave a look of clear disapproval.
"Well okay. We can talk about it, but first there's someone who wants to speak with you." Ozpin said standing up.
"Really, who?"
Ozpin moved out of the way to reveal a woman cloaked in white. Ruby felt her eyes go wide, and she was sure Luffy wasn't that far behind as their mother's stern eyes landed on them.
"Monkey D. Luffy, Ruby Rose. You two are in so much trouble!" Summer yelled.
