Overlord: The Power of Two
Book 1
Chapter 8. Campfire Talk
"Are they valuable?"
Blade approached Ninya from behind and asked. Watching as Ninya and Brita were cutting the ears off the Ogres' corpses.
Further behind was Dyne applying a healing spell to Peter, and Lukrut. Further back was Nfirea calming his horse.
"No, not on their own, but we can hand them over to the guild as proof of the monsters we killed, and they'll pay us whatever they think it's worth."
Ninya explained, but that only left Blade with other questions. But before he asked them he bit his tongue, knowing that if he asked something related to the falling crystals like in YGGDRASIL. But he remembered that he was no longer in a video game but in a living, breathing world.
Brita looked up, "Remember I told you I skipped meals to buy this potion?" Well, that doesn't save much... it helped, but that's how adventurers really make money. The guild buys these things as proof of death."
It was his turn to explain further as he cuts off the top half of an ogre's ear and drops it into a bag.
"What about ancient ruins, dungeons and such?" Blade asks.
"Only really powerful, desperate or foolish adventurers or workers would dare to enter places like that," Brita replied.
"I understand," Blade murmured.
"Mr. Badre. You guys are amazing," Ninya praises after finishing cutting off the ears.
"You both have much more skills than I could have imagined," Brita adds.
"I have a feeling you are just as strong as the Warrior Captain, Mr. Badre," Dyne opined as he rested next to the rest of his teammates.
"Of course. And much more."
Narberal affirmed with a small smile, although also a little smug knowing that if the Supreme Being wanted to, he would have taken care of all these pests of Ogres and Goblins in milliseconds.
"It really is true what they say. There will always be someone stronger than you."
When Peter said those words, the Vampire couldn't help but remember the past. A past in which he started as a simple rookie in YGGDRASIL. A rookie who made a lot of mistakes and errors. A rookie who had a hard time passing the first dungeons of the game. A rookie who was rescued by Touch. And he continued to be the 'Rookie' in the Ainz Ooal Gown Guild.
"That applies to me too," Blade admits, "This is thanks to constant training. You too will be able to do this in due time."
His words caused the rest of the Adventurers to look at him in surprise. Then they smiled gratefully at his words.
A couple of hours of walking passed, and without any incidents. The rays of the Sun were replaced by the dark shroud of night. As Nfirea's horse needed to rest, everyone agreed to camp.
Blade and Narberal had just finished setting up their tent, which could be described as rather simple with only a capacity of two people. Once finished, Blade couldn't help but gaze at the beautiful starry sky.
"Lord Vlad, you should have allowed me to kill them for their audacity."
The Vampire sighed heavily, seeing Narberal's annoyed expression.
"Hmm, are you still upset that they didn't set up my own camp?"
"Matters like these should be taken care of by the weak, not by Supreme Beings. Not to mention the fact that they were amazed by their repressed abilities, it's pathetic."
"Narberal. It would be a mistake for the first adventurers who meet us to spread rumors that we are arrogant. If we want to be well-regarded by the Guild so that they recommend us for more dangerous missions, we must be cordial. At least pretend to be friendly."
Narberal nodded slightly.
"Dinner is ready!"
"Let's go!"
Blade shouted in response to Peter's voice he heard from the camp.
Walking the short distance back to the camp, the duo found a bowl of stew and two seats opened up for them, sitting down in them.
Blade removed his helmet to enjoy the sacred food taking the first spoonful of dinner into his mouth.
An explosion of flavor hit him in an instant, although it was a bit saltier than ideal, but compared to the bland rations of his old world, it was a feast.
"It would be better if there was a bit of blood though," he thought to himself. He was instantly alarmed by what he thought.
"Do you two have a team name?"
Brita's question was something that interested the rest. And managed to get the Avatar out of his thoughts.
"Ah, no, we've never needed it."
"You should consider it. The name of an Adventurer group is the best way for the rest to know who they are." "They are," the redhead said calmly.
"Hm, perhaps it would be good for us to think of one. What do you think, Nabe?"
"I'll be fine with whatever you want, Badre."
What about you two? Why choose 'Swords of Darkness' as a team name?" Now it was Blade's turn to ask.
"The Swords of Darkness were four swords that belonged to one member of the 13 heroes, the member simply called the Dark Knight, wielded four different swords. There was the Demonic Sword Kilineyram, which could emit dark energy, the Rot Sword Crocdabal, which inflicted wounds that would not heal, the Fatal Sword Sfeiz, which could kill with the slightest scratch, as well as the Evil Sword Hyumilis, whose powers are unknown."
Peter expressed excitedly. As he took out a small, dark-colored dagger, he and his fellow Adventurers did the same.
"Our biggest goal is to find them."
"Until we have them, it will be our symbol."
"Real or false, they are our symbol."
Ninja, Peter, and Lukrut spoke respectively.
"Until you say something surprisingly intelligent," Dyne mocks.
Seeing the friendly moment between the Four Adventurers, Blade smiled slightly at seeing them get along so well, as well as the feeling of camaraderie between the four. Almost like brotherhood.
"A team…", thought the Vampire, more interested in the idea of creating his own group of adventurers.
"Do all the Adventurers get along as well in their teams as you do?", asked Nfirea.
"Depends on who you ask," Brita pointed out with a shrug.
"I'm sorry. In our defense you said you were a man when we first met," Peter reminded her, to which the redhead turned her face away a little annoyed.
"You know that most groups don't accept female adventurers, and here I am as an example," Brita snapped.
"Are female adventurers frowned upon?" Blade asked with interest.
"Not exactly," Lukrut replied, "Just one woman in a group of men often poses problems. Problems include differences of thought or even jealousy between the men."
"Female adventurers often form their own teams or, like Brita, occasionally join an already formed group like ours for a short-term mission," Peter adds.
"That's why Mr. Badre, if you consider forming your own team, also bring in another woman," Dyle advises.
"I see. I'll keep that in mind," Blade replies.
Although while he was talking, and when the subject was brought up, he noticed that the person next to him was getting a little uncomfortable with the established topic.
That's when the person in question got up.
"Excuse me, I have to pee. Good night."
Ninya said goodbye to everyone, to turn and go to a more remote place from the established camp.
No one noticed that Blade's nose moved slightly. Being a Vampire Master, he has a much more developed sense of smell, so he could better identify certain aspects.
"Is it safe for Ninya to stay out of our sight?" Blade asked.
"No, not really. But Ninya gets very angry if someone tries to go with him,"
Lukrut laughs, "That also includes when he doesn't want to shower next to us in some lagoon. I guess he's afraid someone will judge his 'thing'."
He laughs even harder, earning a slap on the shoulder from the red-haired girl for the terrible joke. His friends shook their heads. Nfirea just hung his head very embarrassed. Naberal didn't care about the matter.
But Blade narrowed his gaze, "That confirms everything," he whispered.
He suddenly gets up, "I'm going to rest too, with your permission. Nabe, you can stay a little longer."
Before the Pleiad rejected him, the Supreme Being also left the campfire. She couldn't help but let out a snort of annoyance when Lukrut gave her a flirtatious look.
In a more remote place. Between the darkness of some trees and the trunks of some trees on the road. After verifying that she was out of everyone's sight, Ninya lowered her pants and squatted down.
A sigh came out of her mouth and she closed her eyes in relief.
"You shouldn't do that to yourself. You can damage your body."
Ninya quickly opened her eyes. Seeing with great horror that Blade was leaning on the trunk of the tree. The aforementioned was looking at the other side.
"It is not of my concern why you hide from your friends that you are a woman. If you want to talk about it, I'll wait for you," Blade said before letting her do her business.
The little sorceress immediately hurried and once finished, pulled up her pants.
