The next morning after breakfast, Rosalina led Calla to the observatory's Fountain. Calla was quite nervous to leave the Observatory, which she had called home for nearly five years.
Upon entering the fountain, Rosalina began to talk to her.
"This is it my child, today's your big day. You will begin your mission searching for allies to fight to stop Nightmare," she explained, "Having me, the Lumas, Mario and his friends on your side is good start, but Nightmare is well-prepared in his obsessive mission to destroy the Universe."
"What exactly do you mean?" Calla pondered in confusion.
"The last time Nightmare was alive centuries ago, he had an army of possessed individuals known as "Malfested"" Rosalina explained, "In addition, he had several allies who shared his murderous goal, some he possessed, others were willing servants: An undead pirate, a golem, a twisted girl with a ring blade, among others. They traveled across Earth searching for helpless victims to kill and harvest their souls to power Soul Edge."
"Just like in the stories my mom used to tell me when I was younger."
Rosalina nodded "Indeed."
"But wait, are you saying he has a new group of allies helping him?"
"Last I heard, Nightmare has recruited three particular individuals: A sorcerer, a succubus, and a siren. Be on your guard, as you may possibly encounter them while on your journey."
"I will." Calla assured her adopted mother.
"That's the spirit," Rosalina commended her. "Now, your first stop will be in the Southwestern United States; From what I've heard, several locals have claimed to have seen a strange green glow out in the desert."
"Perhaps that's a lead, I'm ready."
"Wait Calla, I have a bad feeling about this glow, so before you leave, I have one last set of gifts I wish to give you."
Rosalina proceeded to pull out two items: one was an emerald, olive branch crown for Calla to wear on her head, while the other was a strange object. Calla was confused as to what it was, but upon noticing that the object in question had a green, crystalline appearance, her eyes lit up.
"What is this?"
"This is a magical emerald. Please take it and place it into the missing pommel slot just below the guard of your greatsword."
Calla took the strange gem and placed it into the slot Rosalina mentioned on her greatsword, she then looked up to her maternal figure with gratitude.
"What is this?" Calla wondered.
"That emerald is actually a unique shard that once belonged to the legendary sword Soul Calibur. It's secrets however I will leave for you to figure out," Rosalina explained.
"But how did you get your hands on this scared fragment?" Calla wondered.
"I once fought an evil warlock many centuries ago after he unleashed a cataclysmic event of a greater magnitude upon the world. I managed to summon the spirit sword with my own will and used it to defeat him. I eventually lost the sword, save for this shard. Over time, the shard changed color from blue to green, but I always felt it resonating with power in the many years since then. Now, I want you to carry what's left of this legendary weapon in the hopes that it will bring you the same luck it brought me in the past."
"I don't know what to say Rosalina, but thank you for- "
Suddenly, a bright glow began to illuminate from her sword. Calla watched as she noticed her sword begin to glow a bright, emerald green. The light blinded her in shock and lasted for several seconds. After the glow subsided, she looked at her sword and noticed that it was no longer a dull, steel tool she had been training with, rather a regal, emerald greatsword with a beautiful crystalline design. Upon seeing the transformation, Calla's jaw dropped in amazement.
Rosalina meanwhile giggled in amusement. "Well, I guess that shard already revealed the first of its secrets to you."
"Amazing, am emerald blade…" Calla then paused by thought of it, "Emeraldblade, I like the sound of that name."
"Then from this day forth, you will be named Lady Calla Emeraldblade."
Calla nodded, after the moment passed, she turned back to Rosalina, "I won't let Nightmare's plan succeed. I promise he will pay for his heinous and arrogant deeds."
Rosalina began to wave her wand around, before swinging it in Calla's direction. A magical bolt then hit Calla, causing her to be transported down to the planet Earth.
"Good Luck…Lady Emeraldblade."
And so, our heroine has set off on her destined journey to stop Nightmare. Who will she meet along the way? Will they be friend or foe? And who are the sorcerer, the succubus, and the siren Rosalina mentioned? All these answers will be answered in the chapters ahead.
