Justice X
Chapter IV
…
Metropolis
It wasn't usual for the League to fight regular bank robberies, however; when four super-villains are orchestrating it themselves, something had to be done that no police officer could do on their own. Ben was originally going to opt out of joining them when the alert first came through the Watchtower monitor system, then he was informed the roster would include three of the original seven, more importantly, Wonder Woman.
So, they arrived and it was a typical heist set up by B-list villains such as Cheetah, an amateur martial artist who spliced her genetics with that of, obviously, a cheetah. Copperhead who used a high-powered suit and toxic kobra-formula to emulate the fangs, claws, and venom of a reptile. The KGBeast who was only on the job as hired muscle along with Blockbuster, a test subject for a super soldier formula gone terribly wrong, ending with all the brawn and none of the brain.
"Smash head!" Blockbuster called out firing a right straight at Superman who only scoffed, catching the punch out-right with ease. They were in the bank's underground compound where the main safe and all the premium safety deposit boxes were held, the pounding of flash echoed through the empty large corridor.
"Smash your own," he retorted using the caught fist to bash Blockbuster's own nose in, sending the creature reeling back holding his face. A second left-hook sent Blockbuster through the iron-gates for a line of safety deposit boxes, falling over dizzy from the strikes to the head.
Cheetah lunged at Diana who dodged her razor-sharp claws, one swing after the other, turning and pouncing though she once again missed, landing on all fours, "Just stand still and let me kill you!" she threw a roundhouse kick which the Wonder Woman easily caught in the palm of her hand with a confident smile.
"Why would I ever do that?" Using her angle to swing Cheetah's entire body by the ankle and leg, the warrior goddess tossed the villain through the air, cracking a stone pillar with her back as she slid down to her rear unconscious.
Copperhead was climbing up the side of yet another pillar towards the ceiling, although; Diamondhead wasn't very amused with his arms crossed out of frustration. "Get down here and fight like a- whatever you're supposed to be!" he demanded up at the reptilian themed crook.
The man hissed at him, spraying a highly acidic venom from underneath his tongue, sizzling atop Ben's crystal exterior, "I won't go down easssily!" not even feeling it, Diamondhead smiled up as he tried to drop on the hero from above.
Using his own downward momentum against him, Diamondhead uppercutted the criminal across the room, tumbling into a heap atop Cheetah, "Sure you will, hey Diana!" he announced as she turned to glance, "We've got matching catches," jabbing his thumb at the silly position the robbers had ended up in.
Wonder Woman chuckled a bit, her smile as devastatingly gorgeous as the rest of her, "Perhaps we should drop them by Belle Reve together?" she suggested with the same seductively curved grin.
Diamondhead exploded in a flash of emerald light revealing his human form, Ben stepped forward with a casual grin of his own, though; they were interrupted when the KGBeast launched a grenade at Batman, who expertly dodged it of course. It was the shockwave that reminded them where they were and what they were doing, both adults turning slightly red as Batman glared. Nearly being scorched when two super-powered heroes were supposed to be helping him, and were twenty-feet away; regardless, the mercenary attempted to swing his cannon arm at the bat which proved a huge mistake.
Batman ducked under the swing, launched a bat-a-rang which missed, lulling the assassin into a false sense of security as he aimed his barrel down, Bruce turned away nonchalantly as the shuriken came back from behind striking the pack on his back which connected him to his weapon. It exploded on his back sending him front first through the air, the Batman perfectly being perfectly removed from his landing spot since he walked away.
Diana used her lasso to tie them all together in one bundle, a job well done for the Justice League; the police came sprinting through the door relieved to see the heroes had won. It was short lived as they were seemingly eradicated by a purple wave of energy that came wafting through the building and likely everywhere surrounding it.
Instantaneously, Ben transformed into Fourarms stepping out in front of Diana on instinct even as the Kryptonian crossed his arms to defend himself, all four of the heroes and even the villains had completely vanished.
…
Unknown Dimension
"It was judgement day!" Copperhead shouted as he looked out at the sky, crimson red with splotches of white swirled together above them, with hundreds of people around them on floating slabs of rock, "The world ended and we all went to the bad-place, the bad-place!" he announced repeatedly out of fear until Cheetah smacked him into silence.
"Snap out of it, Copper!"
Fourarms opened two of his four-eyes, noticing they weren't dead and whatever wave hit them didn't physically hurt anyone, though; he did have to turn around and face a smirking Diana with her hands on her hips, looking at him with particularly confident eyes. "You just jumped into whatever that was to try and save me, didn't you?" she chided.
Fourarms transformed back into his human form, rubbing the back of his head out of embarrassment, "No- I mean, well yea, it was just my first instinct."
"Sure…" she cooed sarcastically, strutting passed him to gather with Batman and Superman who were both discussing where exactly they'd been sent to and by whom.
Clark looked around and used his enhanced sight to glance over the miles upon miles around them, "It isn't just these people, I can see tens of thousands all on their own floating… whatever," he turned to Batman who was usually the genius of the group.
"I'd have to guess we're in some alternate dimension of some sort, but how we got here is an entirely different story," Bruce took out a device which didn't respond at all, a communicator perhaps, it didn't matter as he pocketed it as soon as he realized it didn't work, "We certainly aren't on Earth."
"It kinda looks like the Null Void, which is an alternate dimension, so I'll have to agree with Bats," Ben mentioned as he backed the caped crusaders suggestion.
As he looked around, Superman narrowed his eyes a bit, "That's strange, I can't find a single kid…" as he trailed off to continue turning and looking into the distance, a woman levitated towards them with an announcement to make.
"That is because a child is responsible," she was tall and wore clothes from the Old English age, a purple dress with white collar and a golden mask bearing a permanently unamused expression. Her aura was glowing with a golden light lining her body, likely allowing her to levitate towards the way she was.
"Morgaine Le Fay," Batman called out her name as she landed before them, the way he said it told Ben to keep his guard up though, he wasn't the only one as they all took stances to prepare for battle.
"I haven't come to court battle with you, I mean you no harm," she lifted her hands up as wide as she could to suggest surrender, "My son Mordred has wrought this treachery, banishing all adults to this shadow-realm. Even me, his own Mother… after I spent millennia feeding him, bathing him," as she droned on, Ben gave Clark an odd glance, raising his brow as if he wasn't sure she was serious, the Kryptonian merely shrugged, "I was preparing him to be king, where did I go wrong?"
Ben chuckled, "Maybe when you let a kid his hands on absolute power?"
"How old did you say you were when got your watch again?" Bruce countered as he stepped forwards, "You said it yourself, you're his Mother and a powerful sorceress, just undo his spell."
The other villains watched their conversation in awe aside from Blockbuster who curled up into a ball and sucked his thumb in the corner; "I cannot, he has the amulet of First Magic, he's grown too powerful. Though, if we all worked together..." she trailed off heavily implying they pool together their efforts.
Superman folded his arms over his chest, "I never did like magic."
More importantly, Bruce questioned her motivations, "You want to help us defeat your own son?" he doubted her severely.
Morgaine turned slightly away, "So, don't trust me, allow him to rule your entire world and all your children. Here we will stay, forever, far more terrifying for someone like myself who has thousands of years left to live," she sighed and beneath her mask and looked to her heels.
Wonder Woman took a step forwards, passing Ben, "But, what can we do? We're stuck here, aren't we?" she questioned the obvious just as Bruce had, tired of playing games with a villainous such as Morgaine.
"Not exactly, the spell only banishes adults…"
Ben took a step back, "I don't like the sound of that."
"It is the only way for you to return and defeat my son," she insisted as Diana placed her hand on his shoulder comforting him, reminding him that she'd be there for him regardless. "Alright. Fine."
"Then it's decided; Revertere Ad Iuventutem Suam!" her hands were illuminated with sickening green hued aura that crackled with purple electricity, firing four breams of the same energy which immediately surrounded the Leaguers, causing them to vanish from the dimension just as quickly as they'd arrived.
…
Once they were transported, the spell reverted their ages to just a year under Mordred's due the nature of the spell Morgaine knew he cast; the League noticed something very odd, not that they weren't warned.
Clark, Bruce, Diana, and Ben were all standing in a line together, as nine-year-olds; their outfits had been altered as well to fit their new size, although they all looked relatively the same. Ben was the only one whose shirt inverted colors back to the way it looked when he was ten, a white shirt with a black stripe. What's more infuriating is that the spell effected his Omnitrix, reverting it to its original prototype stage also like when he was ten.
"This better be temporary," Bruce muttered under his breath, his deepened menacing voice now pubescent and less threatening.
Clark looked at his much smaller hands, "Woah, you sound different… So do I!"
Diana turned around and faced Ben who was fiddling with the Omnitrix, "Bypass Code Benjamin Tennyson 010," she approached to hear what he was saying, "Access Master Control; Command Function Override: Code 10."
"Voice command not recognized; user ID Ben Tennyson not detected."
"That's because I sound like a ten-year-old again!" he shouted down at his wrist in frustration, it was going to be a long day if he had to deal with his old style of transforming, one at a time, every ten minutes to charge?
Diana snuck up behind him, now being several inches taller than him, she looked down over his shoulder purposefully getting to close, "What's wrong with your watch?" she poised.
"Whatever spell it was hit with, it reverted it back to its base stage, the one I started with twenty years ago!" Ben gave up and sighed, turning around to face them, "From now on its one alien per ten minutes."
"Fantastic," Bruce muttered.
They all turned around to face the massive castle behind them, obviously the origin of Mordred's magic and the source of this mayhem, Batman took out binoculars to scope out the area, without adults there were no guards to speak of. They all began sprinting towards the entrance to the castle, Ben popped the dial and slapped it quickly enough emerging as a younger Kinceleran leaving a black and blue blur behind him while the others flew overhead Bruce felt left out. "It's not a race, ya know!"
Clark kicked the double doors open, but not hard enough to tear them off their hinges, finding himself much weaker now that he was so physically young. They all lined up as Mordred gave a little girl a cow for some reason and shouted "Next!"
Once he caught sight of them, he busted out laughing, catching his gut with one hand, and pointing at them, "The Justice Babies!" once his laughter died down, he took a tad more serious, "Mother sent you, did she? Well, no matter, you've just walked into my domain!" the boy with shoulder length blonde hair garbed in purple and white much like his Mother gestured through the air, slamming the entrance doors shut.
Bruce noticed the amulet around his neck glow whenever he used his powers, "Ben, you think you could-"
"Yonk? You bet," XLR8 dashed across area in circles moving hundreds of miles an hour until he swooped in to grab the necklace but, the only thing grabbed was the Kinceleran's throat with Mordred being the most powerful sorcerer on the planet at the moment, it wouldn't be so easy.
Diana covered her mouth in shock as he held XLR8 up by the neck, too young to vibrate through solid objects; three explosive bat-a-rangs stopped midair telekinetically before turning to ash. He choked XLR8 tighter threatening to break his neck, "Don't you fools understand by now? I am the most powerful being in th-" he was too distracted monologuing to notice Clark power through his telekinesis and punch him in the chin with the force of a speeding truck, dropping the speedster.
Mordred hit the wall behind him and fell to his rear, shaking his head a bit disoriented, Diana caught XLR8 midair as he exploded in a flash of red-light. His neck was severely bruised, leaving Diana feeling incredibly remorseful, she could have done something to help like Clark had. Lying his head in her lap, just like the day they met, he slowly opened his eyes forcing a smile from her sorrow as she wrapped him in a tight embrace.
Ben reciprocated but, only for a moment as they both took a step back, turning red as they looked away from one another; "I will not be denied! I am ruler, and anyone who punches the rules… will be… executed! That's right executed!" he was still a child and not fully aware of how to run a kingdom, which was perkily why his Mother refused to give him his kingdom yet.
He floated up with the same golden aura his Mother wielded only much brighter with the pink-gem, the Amulet of First Magic shinning brightly around his neck. He fired an animation spell effortlessly targeting, enlarging, and animating four toy robots he'd gifted a child moments ago.
They looked as though they were ripped straight from a cartoon, likely toys sold in toy stores simply brought to life; Diana helped Ben up to his feet as he watched his Omnitrix still beep, out of juice for the next two or three minutes at least.
Diana stood in front of him as he fiddled with the watch, one of the giant mechs swung down on him with what was no likely a real steel sword. Defending him, she clapped her hands together stopping the blade before it even hit her, she grit her teeth together and turned snapping the blade to pieces like glass. Flying up and uppercutting the android toppled it back a few steps, "I may not have Master Control," Ben spoke under his breath to himself, "But, I still know all the secrets this watch has to offer…" he twisted the dial in different combinations, like a videogame cheat code, it beeped a few times before lighting up "There, now I've got a full charge and at least some heavy hitters to work with," he dialed up one of his old favorites and slapped the faceplate down emerging as a younger Vaxasaurian, Humungosaur stomped towards the android Diana was beating the brakes off of as it stumbled towards him, he backhanded its head off as the entire droid fell to the ground.
"Good job," Diana smirked and floated back down to the ground, noticing that Clark and Bruce hadn't handled their androids just yet, one of which targeted her and began firing shards of ice at her, sharp enough to slice through metal. She used her reflexes and bracelets to intercept them all and deflect them from scathing her.
Batman made his way towards his android only, he hopped atop its arm, dodged a swing from its left landing atop its head and springing for Mordred on his throne, firing a grappling hook at him. The young mage dodged but, Bruce smiled yanking it anyways as it pulled down the large throne he used to overcompensate on top of the boy.
Enraged now, he floated up using telekinesis to lift the throne overhead, launching it at Humungosaur who right hooked it to pieces, "I've had enough of you, pest!" aiming for Batman, he fired a spell that did who-knows-what considering the dark-knightling hopped out of the way at the last second, casting the spell on his own animated toy droid. It vanished and Bruce chuckled just a bit, running off and leaping into the darkness.
"Erggg," Mordred was getting frustrated as he continued to watch the fight, Superman dipped and dodged at super speed around a mace wielding warrior droid, armored in all crimson, all it took was two beams of heat through the right part of the mechanics and it came tumbling down, face first.
The very last droid was attacking Diana who was still barely deflecting and redirecting his spear with her enchanted bracelets though she was backed into a corner, the others were going to jump in and assist, however; they didn't need to. Humungosaur reached out and crushed its head with one hand, taking the spear out of its paralyzed hands, snapping it like a toothpick.
Diana looked up at him in awe although, the timer began to sound an alarm and flash is symbol red, being as tall as he was in that form the sudden change back left him falling from twenty-feet up. Diana caught him in her arms safely, remembering the scent of her hair as she looked down at him, "You okay, tough guy?" she asked sweetly, almost like a schoolgirl with a crush.
"Am now," he muttered as she put him down gently, still staring into his bright emerald eyes.
"Thanks for saving me!" they shouted in unison, blurting it out to avoid the awkwardness, "No, thank you!" they did it again speaking simultaneously.
"Would you two get a room already?" Bruce said as he passed them, facing the main threat; Clark took down the last android finally as Mordred stomped his foot.
"That's not fair!"
Bruce glanced at the team of heroes beside him, out numbering the sorcerer, he shouted, "Get em'!" as they all sprang inti action even Ben who had to wait for his watch to recharge once more.
As they sprinted forwards, even Superman was too slow to stop the spell Mordred unleashed with a gesture from the palm of his hands; stopping them all in their tracks like statues, "Maybe I'll have you all decorate my throne room for the rest of time, aha hahahha!"
The Omnitrix on Ben's wrist began to glow bright pink, sparkling with electricity of the same neon color, there was a cut on his cheek from his battle with the androids. It dropped a single trickle of his DNA onto the black wrist band forcing a reaction from the device which exploded in a bright flash of emerald light.
"W-What? Impossible," Ben stood up in a fog of smoke, fully grown and fully pissed off.
"User Ben Tennyson DNA accepted, life preservation function override."
Ben shook his head, chuckling to himself, "Looks like casting magic on me directly was a huge mistake, may have taken my Omnitrix a while to adjust but now, I think I'll just kick your ass." He accessed Master Control and transformed immediately into Heatblast, regaining his full strength felt amazing. "Or maybe I'll roast it instead and have a spoiled brat brochette."
"Perhaps I cant use my magic on you, but your friends however…" his eyes flashed bright purple, Diana, Bruce, and Clark unfroze and turned to face the fully grown Ben; their eyes glazed over with purple iris'.
"Okay, this may be a bit harder than I thought," Diana and Clark lunged at him first, ducking underneath their significantly slower attacks… having trained with their adult selves. "I don't wanna hurt you guys!" Clark came in but was blasted with a beam of heat in the chest that plowed him through the gates and out into the courtyard they arrived in. "Sorry!"
This left him open for Diana to uppercut his solar plexus before sweeping him off his feet, the Pyronite landed on his back as the Princess straddled his chest and began a flurry of haymakers. Her strength still enough to crack solid concrete and dent stainless steel, so every strike sent out a shockwave. "I'm sorry, Diana, I really am…" he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her in for a headbutt, stunning her just long enough to force her into the air with a blast of pure flames, hitting the ceiling with her back.
Batman approached but, Heatblast laid out a ring of fire around them as he caught Diana midair, controlling his body temperature perfectly. He laid her down and turned on a dime firing a wave of flames at the throne which Mordred summoned a force shield to protect himself.
Batman sent three sub-zero bat-a-rangs through the fire striking Heatblast and slowing him down ever so slightly; Clark came flying back through the entrance and sent an uppercut into the Pyronite's jaw. He flew upwards and landed on his back, "Wow, he really is weaker as a child… had he done that as an adult he'd have taken my head off."
Clark came in for another haymaker to the face but Heatblast transformed into Spitter, a rotund alien capable of spitting a vomit-like substance with ten times more force than a firetruck hose. He blasted the Kryptonian knocking him out of the air and landing on his back nearly throwing up from the spell, a classic combo caused Ben to transform on instinct into a battery-sized alien which couldn't speak but could send currents of emerald electricity through liquids, like vomit. Clark was about to stand when he was electrocuted severely, causing him to collapse unconscious.
He transformed back into his human form, "Never would have worked on the real you, Supes," after a few weeks with them Ben had grown fonder of these people he'd met though he still felt he could handle messes like these on his own, it was nice to have… friends.
Suddenly, he lost track of Batman, the dark knightling was still a master of martial arts with who knows what in his belt; "This is quite entertaining, watching you fight off your own comrades! Ahahah!" he kicked his feet up and down.
Clark slowly stood up from the electrocution he'd received, "What happened?" he muttered as he noticed he was covered in slime, "Eww!" he shouted.
Diana got back up and rubbed her head, it seemed knocking them unconscious would break their hypnotic spell, "Ben?" she looked straight and then slowly up at him, blushing as she was astounded by his rugged good looks gleaming in the moon-light that rained down from the open castle ceiling. "H-Hi," she muttered with her hands behind her back, blushing profusely.
"Oh, great, this is happening," Ben noticed her attitude and didn't want to address it with a ten-foot pole, "Where the hell did Bruce go?" he whispered looking around until he thought more deeply, glancing up slowly finding the caped crusader was between the rafters, dropping down on top of Ben giving Mordred a good laugh.
Ben transformed once again with a flash of green-light, appearing as a humanoid-shaped form of green acidic goo; effortlessly sliding out of the Batman's grip, the alien Ben dubbed Goop was a sentient slime controlled by an anti-gravity disk that floated above his head. His disc guided him in a straight line up towards a small stalagmite, rounding it until the acid caused it to crack apart. Goop returned to the ground as he watched Bruce dodge between the rocks until one struck him in the top of the head, being a kid and mind-controlled proved to be too much to act on his true skills.
They all lined up next to him with Mordred enraged that his plans were failing though, he was having some fun toying with them; "It's over Mordred, undo what you did to the world and we'll go easy on you! I mean," now being a cleverer adult, he continued, "You are just a little kid right? I wouldn't send a baby to prison."
Mordred's eyes flashed with golden light, the others backed away but, Ben stood firm folding his arms, "Just a kid?!"
"That's right, get down here right now, young man! Stop all this nonsense now!"
Mordred smiled, gripping the amulet in his hand forcing it to glow with bright neon-pink energy, cascading electricity over his entire body, "Too young? Just a kid? No matter how much power I have I'm always treated as a child, well!" he allowed the amulet to do its work as a beam of golden light encompassed him completely, sending a pillar of energy into the sky.
When it cleared, Mordred was at least thirty-two, a year older than Ben currently was, "Now whose young!? I'm older than you now!" he was taller with long blonde hair, a godly physique with an eight-pack, and armored pants boots, his broadened shoulder rivaled Superman's adult body, "Ha-ha I win!"
"Do you? I've got the Omnitrix keeping me here, how 'bout you?"
Mordred's eyes snapped open wide, "Wait, that can't be possible, it was my spell!" the amulet zapped him and clattered on the ground at his feet, pulsating with a similar energy that flooded the bank originally.
"I spent a few decades with a pretty nifty mage, I may have picked up some knowledge here or there, every spell as powerful as this one… has a loophole," he winked as Mordred was eradicated from this dimension forcing a massive shockwave of mystical energy to propagate across the city, then the country, before circling the entire globe returning parents safely to their children.
Morgaine appeared as well, stomping on the amulet, and crushing it under her heel, turning towards the Justice League, most of which were still pre-teens, "A bargain is a bargain," she waved her hand over the air in front of them as her aura spread out from her palms, cascading over them, and returning them all to their original age.
Batman stepped forward as Morgaine was walking away, forming a portal to vanish into another dimension, "Wait- what happened to Mordred."
Morgaine sighed with a saddened tone, "My spell gave him eternal youth… now that he's broken it, all he has left is eternal life," the implication being he would grow old and decrepit but could never die.
"Sounds like hell," Ben mentioned as Diana took a few steps beside him, looking on as the sorceress left their reality.
She folded her arms, shaking her head in disappointment, "He did it all to himself, there's nothing we can really do about it to help him now," as they watched children reunite with their mothers and fathers, Diana smiled and nudged Ben's shoulder, "Circumstances aside, it was kind of fun to be a kid again, if only for a while."
Ben sighed with lowered eye-lids, turning around, "I haven't been a kid since I was eleven-years-old," he attempted to walk away, referencing the brutal training he went through after his first summer vacation, what happened when he was fifteen and what he did to Vilgax, what Vilgax did to his ex-wife? He hadn't been a kid since he found the watch that fateful day. She linked her arm with his, pulling him back and forcing him to look her in the eye.
Bruce and Clark already had J'ohn teleport them back up to the Watchtower, assuming the two love-birds would be right behind them.
"I know you had a troubled past, and you don't have to agree but," Diana had never felt this way, not about Bruce, or Steve Trevor, it was completely different every time she looked into his bright emerald eyes. She gulped, "If you ever want to talk about it with someone you can trust, I'm here for you."
"Thanks… I'll see you at the Watch-"
"Over dinner!" she blurted out suddenly, she scoffed at herself, "I'm sorry, I haven't had to do this for a long time, I'm usually more composed but, I suppose I'm simply smitten by you," Diana looked up an inch or two into his eyes and brushed a lock of raven black hair behind her ear.
Ben chuckled, "Is this your way of asking me out on a date?"
Diana was surprised when her cheeks turned red, "It's a friendly dinner! To get to know one another, as teammates!" she insisted, still blushing profusely.
"Sure, I'd like that… it's a date," this prompted her to giggle sincerely, punching him lightly in the shoulder as they requested a teleport back up to the watchtower.
…
I've decided this is going to be short chapters based on the DCAU episodes in order but, not every single episode will get a chapter. The only real over arching plot will be Ben and Diana's relationship.
