Raven Darkholme stared into a mirror looking at herself, morphing her hair to black, her skin becoming a nice tan, and her eyes becoming a nice honey-brown, this was 'her' human self or as close to what she could guess, she had always had her blue skin and red hair something she was proud of, but she did often wonder about what she truly looked like or if her form had any resemblance to what she could've looked like.

Raven sighed as she looked out the window watching ordinary people walk on by seeing a few heroes pass by, she wondered to herself very often why she was even fighting anymore, she had done things for humans and for mutants, been hurt and betrayed by both, betrayed those she had cared for, even her own children despised her and for good reason, she tried to manipulate them as she had been manipulated, it made her such a hypocrite.

Raven had left Magneto and since she was one of the few mutants that could avoid being tracked by him or his followers, she was not likely to be found, but she was here on a task as while she was a lot of things, the thing that stuck out the most was she was a mercenary and right now she was on a job to track down a blonde haired man named Naruto Namikaze or as her employers knew him as the Demon Flash, in her opinion he was a hero border anti-hero, but that wasn't what concerned them, they wanted him for his ability to heal as in the list of his powers he had the ability to heal people upon contact, the people who hired her wanted his blood to see if he was a mutant or if his powers could be replicated.

Raven had found him quickly enough and despite his teleportation, he was easier to track than others would believe, she believed he was a mutant given he seemed to visit a mutant group not part of Xavier or Magneto's, he visited the Morlocks frequently, and he healed the people there and then left and not just them whenever he saw an injured victim he healed them as well before unleashing a harsh punishment on the person who caused it, she could respect a person like that and honestly it was a step up from the people she was normally near.

Raven had studied her target and was once able to track him to his home, to her surprise he owned a Japanese restaurant and cooked to perfection meeting her high standards, he was kind and his eyes had no ulterior motives, when he talked to a person he looked them dead in the eye as if reaching to their soul, when she went there in her human disguise, he was pleasant and didn't ogle her like a piece of meat like most men did, it was a nice change of pace.

Raven was rethinking the job she had accepted, but also she was wondering if he knew people were after him as she had seen certain competitors disappear as Bullseye, Beetle, and even Kraven, she knew they weren't dead as the Demon Flash's MO was broken bones and bruises, but never death 'Is he really that skilled?' she thought to herself as while not bloodthirsty like Sabertooth, she loved a challenge that pushed her, she was unsure of what to do as this man was a good man and didn't deserve her wrath, but her curiosity was getting the better of her.

(next day)

"You done?" Naruto asked Raven as she nursed her hands as she had brought guns to fight him and he threw mini kunai no bigger than his fingers down the barrel causing them to blow up.

'One perk of my powers.' Raven thought as any skin injuries she suffered were 'healed' instantly, she didn't possess a healing factor as if she was stabbed and it hit an organ her transformation couldn't heal at that level "I wanted to see how good you were." she said to him simply as besides hand to hand she was defenseless.

"You could've asked for a spar Raven." Naruto said to her seeing her eyes widen in surprise "Word of advice, if your gonna pull that reptile crap, don't do it in a room full of people." he said as Raven had no scent, it was a thing reptiles did as it allowed them the courtesy of not being tracked by animals that used smell.

Raven was now even more impressed as Wolverine and Sabertooth couldn't ever tell if she was in a room, but this man turned her ability into a way to reveal her 'He's an actual tracker.' she thought even more impressed.

"You know I can't get drunk easily right?" Mystique asked him as she was hard to get hammered, after their little scuff, he brought her to his restaurant.

"So am I." Naruto said pouring him and her a drink "So what's the price on me now?" he asked her curiously.

"50 million." Mystique said as the people who wanted him were willing to pay a lot for his blood and even more for capture.

"Not bad, so let me ask you something, do you want to have a fresh start?" Naruto asked her curiously seeing the odd look she was giving him "I'm an empath, I can sense your emotions." he said seeing her eyes widen in surprise.

"There are no fresh starts for people like me." Mystique said downcasted.

"Yeah, honesty isn't an easy concept for people like us, we have seen the best and the worst in people, and being so far apart from that, you often can't see where the line blurs or even what side you are on." Naruto said as good and bad were concepts varying on a person's own ideals.

"That…is actually how I feel." Mystique said in surprise that he summed up her life so perfectly.

"I won't ask for specifics, but if you want a friend or someone to drink with I'm here." Naruto said refilling her drink.

'A friend?' Mystique thought as she couldn't remember the last time she got one of those as after Destiny had passed, besides her children she felt no connection to anyone else.

Naruto had been true to his word to Raven as every day she would come to him and unload onto him her problems and would give her sound advice.

"Your son could have identity issues." Naruto said to Raven as they drank.

"How do you figure that?" Raven asked as out of her children Kurt was the most stable.

"He wants to know his past and is kinda latching onto who he thinks he should or could be, he wants to know you." Naruto said to her simply that for an orphan, wanting to know more of where and whom they came from gave them a sense of understanding of themselves "Take it from an orphan Raven, we want answers." he said as he told her about how he was an orphan.

"Knowing me is a mistake." Raven said to him.

"Yet he reaches out and so have you." Naruto said to her as she shot him a dirty look "Lie to yourself and glare at me all you want Raven, but it's true and you know it." he said to her simply.

Mystique hated it when he was right as she was basically self sabotaging herself from staying away from him and if she was honest being in the brotherhood was just so she could keep an eye on them or have the excuse to do it "Can I ask you something, how do you think I could change?" she asked wondering if he saw her as a person worth redemption as he knew her history and all the evil she has done.

"Oh yeah." Naruto said simply and saw she was giving him a look as to explain "Raven, you survived, you did what you could, you fought back and suffered dealing with a lot of shit that'd break normal people." he said unable to deny her struggles and her pain and the things she did which would've happened or had been worse off without her intervention.

That was probably the nicest thing a person ever said to her.

"If you want to change, try and go at it your way not the way some bald asshole or darth vader rip-off tells you to." Naruto said as Xavier and Magento were both right and wrong in their approaches, he was honestly surprised there wasn't more hate due to these two groups clashing as it showed the world mutants weren't united and taking so many hits would cause someone to blow up sooner rather than later.

'My way?' Raven thought to herself and wondered, what way that possibly was.

(2 months later)

Raven smiled in her apartment as she was working as a hero for hire a bit similar to Luke Cage, but she had a higher clientele with her history, she took time to develop her way as it was hard not to be a mercenary with all her skills, Naruto had gotten her in contact with a local hero, Spider-man, as a way to help her curb some of her violent tendencies as even the blue skinned woman had to admit, the web themed hero was as good a man as Naruto and even more innocent, Naruto later told her there was another motive to this as he told her Spider-man was dating Kitty Pryde who was also a member of Spider-man's fan club, he told her that the web-slinger while not an X-man was good friends with many and they all valued his opinion, she was surprised when Spider-man spoke in her defense after some time to the group.

"You'd be nervous if your child wanted to kill you." Raven said as she had no misconceptions that if Rogue touched her she might not let go till she was a husk.

"Kinda why I'm here." Naruto said as he was here to stop any potential bloodshed "Seriously you patched things up with Kurt ok, I mean what you did with Rogue is pretty shitty, but given time you'll earn her forgiveness, I mean seriously I doubt it could get worse than manipulation." he said to her.

"...I killed my son." Raven said to him.

Naruto paused at that remembering she admitted to him when she was hammered one time that she killed her son Graydon Creed as retribution for killing Irene, he had to admit it brought true meaning to the phrase 'I brought you into this world and I can take you out', he had to admit Graydon was a monster in every possible sense and deserved nothing short of a painful death.

"I swear I should've tickets to this." Naruto said looking at his destroyed living room as not 5 minutes into Rogue being here, she tried to beat the crap out of Raven in an old school style fist fight, the two fought breaking everything in the room "Rogue you even think of touching my flatscreen and I will kill you." he said to her as there was no way he was gonna let that slide.

'Shit she may be Raven's daughter after all.' Naruto thought as the two were still going strong "Ok ladies as much as this mother-daughter killathon is totally doing it for me, dinner is cold and you've wrecked enough of my living room." he said to them breaking the remaining legs on his couch as the women broke two and sat on his love seat.

Raven and Rogue had another meeting as after last night they surely got through the more trying emotions, there were many hurtful words mostly by Rogue and some simple ones by Raven, and how she and Irene had come into possession of her.
