Chapter 152: Apple Family Reunion
The remainder of the training week had come to an end and everyone was back home and everything was back to normal, but as soon as Spyro was back at his garage, he saw the portal and got to work instantly on figuring out where it came from, where it went and how it got into Equestria in the first place all the while Applejack and her family were getting ready for the Apple Family reunion, getting decorations and everything set up as the reunion was coming tomorrow. While Spyro was in the garage, he was having multiple scanners going through and scanning everything it could while he was on the terminal, observing the data as it came across the screen, but understanding very little.
"AIVA, you sure there is no known information about this portal, where it came from, or where it goes?" Spyro asked.
"Unfortunately not sir." AIVA replied. "The portal was created from a single piece of ice. Where it came from or where it goes is unknown. How it even got inside of the garage is a mystery."
"Well we need to figure out where it came from and how it got here." Spyro said. "Send a probe inside the portal and collect any and all information about where it goes. Leave nothing out."
"Yes sir." AIVA replied. "Contacting probe 14."
A moment later, a probe droid flew down from the ceiling, floating in front of Spyro to recieve orders.
"Go thorugh the portal and collect every piece of information you can." Spyro said. "I want to know where this portal goes to. If you can, return to me through the same way. If not, transmit the coordinates and information and I'll send a ship to pick you up." The probe made some sounds before moving towards the barrier, creating a small circle for it to pass through as the chilling winds flew out of the hole and created frost on some of his machines befor eht eprobe went through the portal, the barrier closing as it started to warm back up inside the garage. "Interesting. AIVA, how cold were those winds?"
"By my calculations, the wind itself is twenty degrees Fahrenheit." AIVA replied.
"Geez, that cold!?" Spyro asked. "No wonder the place was freezing when I got here."
"Spyro, ya still in there?" Applejack asked, walking in. "Ya promised to help set up for the reunion tomorrow."
"Oh right, sorry." Spyro said, turning the screen off. "Been busy with this portal that it slipped my mind. AIVA, transmit any information the probes sends to me to my bracers."
"Affirmative sir." AIVA replied, disappearing.
"Ya still on about that portal?" Applejack asked.
"Just trying to figure out where the heck it came from." Spyro replied. "Anyway, let's go see what Granny Smith needs for the reunion." They then walked out of the garage and made their way to the barn where everyone else was waiting, Granny Smith ruffling through some old stuff as the two keyblade warriors walked in. "And you're sure it's alright for me to be apart of the reunion? I'm not exactly an apple ya know?"
"Well, yer mah herd leader, so we're practically married." Applejack replied. "So yeah, it's alright."
"Apple Bloom, how are those RSVPs coming along!?" Granny Smith asked, the filly going through the envelopes. "Who's showin' their muzzles at the reunion?"
"Amazing news granny, everypony's coming!" Apple Bloom replied. "Ah got replies from the apples in Yonder Hill, Hollow Shades, Galloping Gorge, Foal Mountain, Fillydelphia, Tall Tale Town, Appleoosa, even Manehatten! Babs is coming to the reunion! Ah get to see mah favorite cousin again!"
"Hot dog!" Spyro said. "And I get to see my favorite niece again! I'll be sure to give her a 'Welcome back to the farm' nuggie."
Apple Bloom knocked all of the replies into the air, scattering them around the barn, in excitement to the news that her favorite cousin was coming while Granny Smith looked bewildered.
"We're gonna need bigger cider truck." Granny Smith.
"And probably a bunch more chairs." Spyro said. "You guys have a very large family."
"You said it Spyro." Granny Smith said. "Why it looks like the family has grown ten fold since the last reunion. Certainly been a long time since we had ALL of the apples here."
"Wait, those weren't all the apples last year when I first arrived?" Spyro asked.
"Nope." Big Mac said, putting all the replies into a wheelbarow and everyone walking behind him.
"Sheesh, and I thought Pongo had a big family." Spyro said.
"Oh, Ah'm gonna be busier than a worm in a rotten tomato trying to get everything set up." Granny Smith said.
"Heck, I can help out with that." Spyro said.
"Mee too!" Apple Bloom replied.
"So can Ah!" Applejack said.
"Yep." Big Mac added.
"Golly, Ah'd sure appreciate that." Granny smith replied. "Granny is a little rusty in the giddy up over the years."
Granny Smith, to prove her point, pulled her cheeks back to give herself a temporary lift to look much younger back in the day before the wrinkles returned. Despite the odd look at what she looked like when she was younger, Spyro wasn't phased.
"With myself and your grandkids setting up for the reunion, all you would need to worry about it relaxing and enjoying yourself with your relatives." Spyro said. "Just tell us what we need to do and we'll get it done."
"Ah'll do more than tell ya youngin'." Granny Smith said, eveyrone walking into the house. "Ah'll show ya!" The four of them walked into the living room while Big Mac moved the wheelbarrow somehwere else while Granny Smith got out a photo album and sat down with her other two grandkids and Spyro. "We've always hosted the reunion here at Sweet Apple Acres every year for a hundred years since we planted our roots here in Ponyville."
Granny Smith then opened the photo album and when she did, many of the photos in it looked to be decades old, Spyro amazed to see the family history.
"Who's that?" Apple Bloom asked, pointing at a photo of a mare stirring something in a cauldron.
"That would be yer great, great Auntie Applesauce." Granny Smith said. "That was her when she was about Spyro's age, maybe younger. Of course she had another name, but we started to call her Applesauce when her teeth fell out when she was making apple jam. Never did find them in all them jars."
"I bet it was." Spyro replied, Granny turning the page to show herself with a few others with an unfinished blanket.
"Hey, that's you!" Apple Bloom said.
"Sure is." Granny Smith replied. "That was the time when myself and a few of the other apples were makign the quilt since the first reunion." They then looked at the next photo to show a frustrated Granny Smith. "No pony told me Ah had to knot the thread to make the patch stay. Chances are we may never finish the doggone thing!"
Spyro and Apple Bloom both snickered at the elderly pony, finding it amusing while Applejack seemed to be taking mental notes about what she believes was needed for the reunion. She then turned the page and Spyro was in disbelief when he saw Applejack as a baby, his eyes lighting up as he cooed at the photo.
"By the ancestors, is that AJ!?" Syro asked. "She's so adorable!"
"You bet it's Applejack!" Granny Smith said. "Ya know how we apples like a good fritter every now and then, right?" Spyro nodded, knowing how amazing they tasted. "Well, that reunion, we found out she had herself the appetite of a full grown stallion as she had herself a plate or two full of Apple Fritters. Ain't that right Applejack?"
Granny Smith poked Applejack on the foreleg with her elbow, but the farm pony was too busy making notes.
"Get twice, maybe three times as more honey and flour, plenty more buckets of apples, more oil, wood for the fire..." Applejack said, needing to try and remember everything as Granny Smith turned the page to show the old mar with another pony with their leg's tied together.
"Now, stick an apple in me and roast my romp, this sure brings back memories." Granny Smith said. "Ya know how babs is your favorite cousin?" Aple Bloom nodded her head, remembering. "Well, apple rose is mine. Every reunion, we'd enter the seven legged race together. Though we never won a single one of them, but that doesn't mean we didn't have any fun doing it!"
"And I thought the three legged race was tough." Spyro thought to himself, knowing that Granny Smith and Big mac didn't know about his human side.
She then turned the page again to reveal the entire family group up in front of the barn, all looking happy.
"Ah, and here we are in front of the barn." Granny Smith said. "At the end of every reunion, we'd snap a photo in front of the barn. Helps us to see how our family has grown. And this year is a big deal as everypony else in the family is busy with their farms, so it's dificult to get them all together and having a hootin-tootin fun time!"
"And this year we got Spyro and Scootaloo to join the reunion as well!" Apple Bloom said. "This is going to be the best reunion ever! Hopefully nothing bad happens during the reunion."
"Hey, don't jinx us ya little trouble maker!" Spyro said, giving the filly a nuggie to the head. "Speaking of, where is the little speed demon anyway?" A second later, they heard something crash, knowing who it was. "There she is."
They looked to their right and saw Scootaloo hanging upside down on the coat rack, giving a nervous smile.
"Heh, sorry." Scootaloo said.
"Was wondering where ya were little speed demon." Spyro said, getting up and helping her down. "Hey, wanna help out with setting up for the Apple Family Reunion tomorrow?"
"The Apple Family reunion?" Scootaloo asked. "Isn't it for apples?"
"Well I am AJ's herd leader." Spyro said. "And you're my little sister, so that counts."
"Well, alright!" Scootaloo said. "When do we get started!?"
"Tomorrow morning." Spyro replied. "For now, we better get some sleep. We got a lot of work in the morning."
"And boy do we have a lot of work to do!" Granny Smitgh said. "It's very rare to get everypony to come to these reunions."
"That's true." Applejack said. "With how busy everyponies lives are gettin', chances are we won't get lucky a second time. That just means we'll need to make it extra memorable! Don't ya worry Granny, we'll make it super memorable."
As she said that, Spyro got the Roku remote out and paused everything, looking at the reader with a look that said he had a bad feeling about this.
"As the author said, I got a bad feeling about this." Spyro said. "And you don't need to have the power of the Force to know that this whole thing is going to go side ways in a heartbeat at some point."
He then unpaused the world and allowed it to continue as if nothing had happened.
"Ah better get started!" Applejack said. "Ah got some plannin' to do!"
"Ya need any help AJ?" Spyro asked.
"Nah, Ah got this." Applejack replied. "Ah already have a good idea about what can be done to make this reunion memorable."
Spyro was very unsure about that, even though Applejack wasn't as silly as the others, but he knew his friend all too well to know that what she had planned to make the reunion memorable was going to possibly end in disaster. The next morning came very quickly as Spyro and the other apples were well rested for the day, but Applejack seemed to be a bit more tired than the rest, having possibly stayed up later than the others trying to come up with ways to make the reunion the best one ever, which was what worried Spyro the most as he remembered the last time that she stayed up or didn't get any rest, ending up putting half of Ponyville in the hospital with some bad cupcakes. Spyro helped the apples to gather the apples they needed for the Apple Fritters, Spyro using his speed to kick dozens of trees all at once and filling dozens of baskets, takign them to the barn so that everything could be ready to go while the others set up some tables for the apples.
While the others got to work getting everything else set up while he went into town to collect the supplies that Applejack asked him to get, starting with getting some fabircs and sewing supplies from Rarity, who gladly supplied the items that he requested before heading to Sugarcube Corner to get some extra honey, which Pinkie got from a bee hive, Spyro creating a barrier around himself to keep the bees out, shivering as he watched her burp out a bee. He then went to Rainbow Dash and set some buckets up to collect some rain water, which Rainbow Dash bounced on a storm cloud and provided what he needed before getting eletrocuted, glarring at Rainbow Dash as she whistled nervously before flying away. As Spyro was reaching Sweet Apple Acres after drying off, he found there was a whole row od cauldrons and Big Mac chopping enough wood for all of them, unlatching himself from the cart and opening his mouth, starting a fire underneath them. After thta, Spyro helped out with setting up all of the decorations for the biggest reunion in apple history, looking around at everything to make sure everything was how it should be before being satisfied.
"That should do it." Applejack said.
"And just in time too." Granny Smith said. "They're hear!"
They all looked to the path and saw a storm of dust and dirt heading in their direction, wagons and ponies all running and riding in their direction from all across the world coming to the family reunion. Relatives got together, greeting one another after not seeing one another for so long, newer additions to the apple family a little nervous to see all of the relatives, but then got to know them and use to them as other fillies and colts got o meet one another, seeing Apple Bloom and Babs, who was still wearing the bandana he gave her, hugging as they were happy to see one another again.
"It's great to see ya again Babs!" Apple Bloom said. "How ya been!?"
"Great actuallya." Babs replied. "The bullying has stopped after I talked to my parents and after they saw the bandana Spyro gave me. Heck, i even called him Uncle Spyro just to mess with them."
"Welcome back to the farm Nuggie patrol!" Spyro shouted.
"Oh no!" Babs said, getting snagged as Spyro gave her a Nuggie.
"Nuggie, nuggie, nuggie, nuggie, nuggie, nuggie, nuggie!" Spyro said, messing the fillies mane up.
"Come on Spyro, I just got my mane done!" Babs said playfully as he let her go.
"Sorry Babs, just glad to see my favorite niece again." Spyro said. "So how's the Cutie Mark Crusaders in Manehatten coming along?"
"It's going great!" Babs replied. "Already got some new members and we continue to grow everyday!"
"That's great to hear!" Spyro replied.
"Spyro?" A voice asked.
Spyro turned his head to see Braeburn walking up, shocked to see Spyro looking completely different than when he saw him last.
"Braeburn!" Spyro said, the two hoof bumping as they got together. "Haven't seen ya since the conflict. How's eveyrthing in Appaloosa going?"
"It's going great!" Braeburn replied. "We've been keeping peace with the buffalo and they've been a great help for the harvest. Heck, APPALOOSA is only growing bigger by the day." Spyro could understand if saying his town like that was out of habit or not, but he was glad to see an old friend again. "And look at you. You've definitely changed since we last saw one another."
"That's what happens when you go through two phases of evolution in your life." Spyro said. "And boy have we had some adventures."
"Ya gotta tell me all about it." Braeburn said. "I wanna hear eveyrthing that has happened up til now!"
Before he could go into any kind of detail, Applejack tapped the megaphone, getting everyne's attention.
"Howdy ya'll!" Applejack announced. Ah'm Applejack and Ah'd like to welcome ya'll to this years Applwe Family Reunion!" The entire crowd cheered as she said that, showing how excited everyone was to be there. "Ah've got a real big day planned for all of ya'll, but before we begin, there are a couple of ponies Ah'd like to introduce to ya'll. You may have heard of him and how he defeated Nightmare Moon, Discord, and all the monsters that have been attacking Equestria for the past year, though he's not an official apple yet, he has been a very big help on the farm, and he is my colt friend and herd leader. The Prince of Light and Darkness, Spyro!" Everyone cheered as he walked over to the stage, stamping their hooves as they cheered as if applauding him as he smiled and waved. "And his little sister, my little sisters best friend, Scootaloo!" They cheered again as Scootaloo came out, though a bit nervous, but Spyro just smiled, pulling her in and giving her a nuggie to help calm her down as she struggled to get out. "Now then, today I have an obstacle course and a seven legged race for the youngin's and some Apple Fritter baking and Quilt sewing for the not so youngin's. And there is lots more to come after that, so I hope you all enjoy and have a wonderful time making memories!"
The entire crowd cheered as she ended the announcement and went to which ever station or area they wanted to go to, but before Spyro was able to go and mingle with the others, Apple Bloom and babs ran up and dragged him away to the other foals who were there, all excited to meet him as he was dragged to them.
"Ah seriously!?" Spyro asked. "Did I just get put in the kiddie corner!?" He then pouted, acting childish and making them laugh as he sat there. "AB, you know I'm more mature than you, right?"
"Ya are not!" Apple Bloom replied jokingly.
"Oh yeah!?" Spyro asked. "Come here ya little trouble maker!" He then snagged her and started to mess with her mane a bit, makign he rlaugh along with the other fillies as he let her go, having messed her mane up to the point it looked ridiculous. "Now then, who's ready to have some fun!?" The fillies and colts all cheered at the same time, equally excited to have fun. "Wonderful! And if you're all good, i might tell you some tales about my adventures beyond Equestria and even take you up in my ship later on."
"Ya serious!?" Babs asked, clearly excited. "We get to fly in your ship again!?"
"Of course." Spyro said. "Heck, I'll even show you the new arrows I got from a friend and how they work." The fillies all cheered in excitement, following Spyro as they went over to the seven legged race to get the fillies started on making memories and catching up, however, when they reached the starting line for the race, he notices how far the flag was, surprised to see it. "Geez luis, is that the finish line or something!?"
"Actually, that's the first marker for the race." Applejack replied, walking over.
"That's just the first marker!?" Spyro asked, looking at it. "That has to be at least one, maybe two miles away! How long is this race?"
"Oh it's plenty long." Applejack replied. "And once you fillies and colts are done, I have more activities for you to do, such as bobbing for apples, the run around these trees til yer nice and dizzy, then jump over these wooden hurdles, and gthen the final leg of the race, ya'll need to balance these plates spinnin plate on yer head while saying 'Pappy pony picked a pluck of prickly pluffnuggets' over and over again. Last one standing wins!"
Spyro was in complete disbelief, looking at the entire thing, now understanding that the race was actually an obstacle course, the fillies looking to Spyro in confusion, which he was also confused.
"You serious AJ?" Spyro asked. "Is this a race or a military training course? Where's the time for them to catch up and have fun?"
"Ah, they'll have plenty of fun on the obstacle course." Applejack said, rushing off. "Gotta check on everypony else! Can ya get the race started for me?"
As she left, Spyro looked at the entire obstacle course, in complete disbelief that Applejack would set up something like this as the fillies will be too exhausted to want to do anything else, possibly ruining the reunion for them.
"Um, Mr. Spyro, sir?" One of the fillies said. "We don't have to do all of that, do we?"
"Of course not." Spyro replied. Just on the racing portion. And maybe the bobbing for apples if ya want to have fun getting some apples, but this, this is ridiculous. Hold on, I'll fix it." he pulled his jacket back and started to whistle, one of the Yaka arrows coming out as he whistle, surprising all the fillies and colts who never got to see it before, changing the tone of the whistle yo making it go flying, ziping through the course and getting the flag and bringing it back to him, which he caught the arrow while fliiping over and gettng the flag, throwing it like a javelin a few hundred feet away to indicate the new finish line before calling his keyblade, throwing it using Strike raid and creating a line in the ground to make a finish line, landing on the ground and grabbing the keyblade abnd dismissing it. "There, that'll be the new finish line."
"Wow, that was awesome!" Babs said. "What the heck was that you used?"
"It's called a Yaka arrow." Spyro replied, scratching his chin. "Say, I got an idea. After the race and bobbing for apples, would you kids like to see what these arrows can really do?"
"YEAH!" They all shouted.
"Alright then." Spyro said. "A while later in the afternoon, see if you can fine some rotting apples and maybe a few watermelons in the garden that I planted some time ago and bring them to me, I'll show you what these things can really do." The foals all cheered in excitement as he got them ready for the race, tying their legs to the pony they partnered with before getting to the starting line, all excited for the race as he got them ready. "On your marks!" They got ready, all eager to get th race started. "Get set!" They got ready to run, smiling as they were excited to get started. "GO!"
The filllies then took off along the track, a few stumbling a bit at the start due to being tied together and having to try and run in synch with one another, but they got back up and continued to run, having fun instead of being run ragged. Witht he foals now having fun, Spyro rushed after Applejack quickly to make sure she didn't do the same thing to the adults. With the elderly mares, they were laughing and giggling, reminiscing about old times when Auntie Applescauce, a green earthpony, showed ber new teeth to them.
"How long ya had them new choppers Auntie Applesauce?" Granny Smith asked.
"A lady never reveals the age of her teeth." Aunt Applesauce replied, which a pale pink earthpony rolles her eyes, scoffing. "Dont you roll your eyes at me Apple Rose! Don't think I forgot what you did yo my parasol six reunuons ago!"
"Aw, we were just using it to break open that pesky piƱata!" Granny Smith said, she and Apple Rose laughing at her while Applesauce just leered at them.
A moment later, Applejack came over with the unfinished quilt, laying it out on the table nearby.
"Applejack, delightful to see you again." Aunt Applesauce said. "You going to join us for a bit of quilting?"
"Sorry Anutie Applesauce, but Ah'm very busy right now." Applejack replied. "But you can all get started."
"Uh, Applejack, have you seeing our rocking chairs and sewing needles?" Granny Smith asked. "We can't seem to find them."
"Oh, ya'll won't be needing them this year." Applejack said, removing a blanket ontop of a table with several sewing machines. "This is going to be the year you finish that quilt."
"Finish it?" Apple Rose asked as Applejack loaded the quilt into the machine.
A moment later, she pull a string on the sewing machine and it started up like a jackhammer, the sound deafening for everyone in ear shot, which the elderly covered their ears while also alarming some of the other relatives several yards away while also causing some vibrations that shook the earth, almost causing an earthquake with how it was.
"WON'T THIS BE EXCITING!?" Applejack asked.
"WHAT DID YA SAY!?" Apple Rose asked.
"AH SAID-" Applejack began to say, but she couldn't hear herself, so she shut the machine off to talk. "Pardon. Ah said, won't that be exciting?"
The old mares looked at one another, unsure of how to answer that, looking back at the machine.
"I suppose so." Aunt Applesauce asked. "Though I was told that too much excitement can wreck havoc on my youthful complesxion."
Granny Smith started to laugh while Apple Rose rolled her eyes, both finding Applesauces fantasies of being youthful as she was before funny.
"That's the spirit!" Applejack said. "Now, Ah need to check on the Apple Fritters, Ah'll see how ya'll are doing later!"
Applejack then rushed off to see how the Apple Fritters were coming along, leaving the old mares to do the qulting, pulling the cords on the machines and getting started, not looking like they were having fun when the machines suddenly shut off, confusing the mares as they started them up again, but a moment later, they shut off again, getting on their nerves.
"What the fliberty gast is wrong with the gosh darn thing!?" Granny Smith.
"What's going on here?" Spyro asked, cleaning his ears out. "I could litterally hear those things on the other side of the farm."
"How the heck can ya hear from all the way over there?" Apple Rose asked.
"I'm half dragon, so my eye sight and ears are much stronger than a normal ponies." Spyro replied. "What the heck with with the sewing machines? Whwere are the sewing needles and thread I got you?"
"Applejack got rid of them, saying this year we're finishing the quilt with these doohickey's here." Aunt Applesauce replied. "I thought I'd get anoither wrinkle or two with how loud these things are."
Wondering what was making the machines so loud, Spyro walked over and opened one of them up to see what was causing the noise, finding the issue instantly.
"Huh, no wonder these things are so loud." Spyro said. "The engines have been replaced with that of a jackhammers, thus explaining why it sounded like a jackhammer, allowing for maximum yield of the thread while also causing a disturbance in the sound barrier, causing deafness if you haven't already gotten bad hearing."
"What he just say?" Granny Smith asked.
"These things are so loud, you'll go deaf when these things are on." Spyro replied. "Hang on, I have an idea of where your chairs and needles are. Be right back."
Spyro used his magic to levitate the machine into the air, taking them to the barn to get rid of them later before flying to the side of the road, having spotted the chairs earlier and bringing them back along with finding the needles and the thread in a trashcan that was next to the chairs, setting them down and allowing for the old mares to sit down.
"Why thank ya kindly Spyro." Grany Smith said, turning to the others. "He's been such a help around the farm. Shoulda seen him on day one. He litterally buckes about half of the entire farm before having to stop. He also very strong, fast, and very, very smart too. You should see some of the gizmo's in the garage he has there. Blows my mind with everything he makes, though for how smart he is, he tend to blow himself up more often than he should."
They then started laughing a bit as Aunt Applesauce started eyes him up, making him feel very uncomfortable.
"Tell ya what, if I were eighty years younger, I would be fighting some of the other fillies just to get his attention." Aunt Applesauce said.
"Uh, thanks... I guess." Spyro said nervously. "Well, I gotta do... the thing... over there... by the thing. Gotta go now, bye!" He then rushed off, going as fast as he could before finging a safe place to hide, his back againt a tree trunk as he wiped some sweat off his brow. "Geez, and here I thought nothing could make me feel uncomfortable. But... AJ creating an obstacle course that will make the kids exhausted, sewing machine to try and get the quilt finished quickly, AJ's not getting what this reunion is all about. I need to make sure ntohing else goes wrong, otherwise this entire reunion is ruined."
Spyro then went to check on the station with the Apple Fritters, hoping that nothing goes wrong there, otherwise this would be a memorable reunion alright, memorable as being one of the worst reunions in Apple History. At the Apple Fritter station, several of the adults were busy cooking the Apple Fritters in the cauldrons, placing some of the freshly bakes Fritters onto a plate where Big Mac carried them to a table, licking his lips at how delicious they looked, his stomach growling at him to eat something, so he made sure no one was looking before devouring the plate, eating the fritters, but his actions didn't go unnoticed as Applejack saw him eat the plate, trotting up to him as he finished the last fritter.
"Big Macintosh!" Applejack exclaimed, making him jump. "Big Mac, until there is plenty of food for everypony, will ya not eat them all before they're all done?"
"E-eyup." Big Mac said, rushing away before Applejack wnet over to some of the ponies who were making the Fritters.
"So you have eight now, don't you?" One mare asked.
"Oh yes, I do." Another mare replied. "Let me tell ya, my little Apple Tart may still be a baby, but he's a hoof full."
"You havin' fun there?" Applejack asked.
"Sure are." One mare replied.
"That's great, but maybe we should pick up the pace on making some of them fritters." Applejack said, confusing the mares as she get the apples and showed them what to do. "Roll, fold, crimp, slide to the left. Roll, fold, crimp, slide to the left. Rollfoldcrimpslidetotheleft." The mares were now even more confused about why Applejack was showing them what they already know what to do as they continued to do it, pleasing the mare as she watched. "That's the spirit ya'll! Let's keep this assembly line going, and we'll have enough for everypony to taste the best dark fritters in equestria."
She then walked away, not hearing the ponies complaining as she left while Spyro came in a couple of minutes later, looking at the station and seeing how unhappy the ponies were, face smacking himself as he approached, everyopne stopping to see him approach.
"Let me guess, AJ's having you quicken the pace to make more Fritters?" Spyro asked, which they nodded their heads, making him groan. "Eruman cala. Look everypony, ignore what she said. Work at your own pace and enjoy yourselves, I'll go and see if I can have a word with Applejack, get her to see reason. You ladies and gents enjoy yourselves, ok?"
They nodded their heads and went back to making fritters at their own pace while Spyro decided to talk to Applejack, talk some sense into her about what she's been doing and making this reunion turn into nothing more than another day of work for everypony. Near the barn, Applejack was getting the camera set up, excited to snap some photos of some of the activities that were going on while getting a good vantage point to snap the photos.
"Alrighty Applejack, time to snap some memorable photos of the reunion." Applejack said. Before she could speak in the megaphone to announce a break, her voice faltered when she looked in the lense to see that Granny Smith and her cousins were in their rocking chairs, knitting the quilt normally while over at the fritter making area, everyone was going slower than she anticipated them to go while the fillies were just going from the starting line to another line that was made, stoppiung and giggling while others were just playing and messing around. "What in tarnation is going on here!? This is not what Ah had in store for this years reunion."
"AJ, we need to talk." Spyro said, flying over head and landing next to her.
"Spyro, what in tarnation is going on down there?" Appeljack asked. "Where the heck are the sewing machine for the quilt?"
"I stored them in the barn." Spyro replied.
"You what!?" Applejack asked. "Why the heck did ya do that for!?"
"For starters, the sewing machines are defective." Spyro answered. "They had their original motors replaces with that of a jackhammer motor, causing a loud and near deafening sound, the obstacle course you made was ridiculous, and making the ponies work double time on the fritters is just plain dumb!"
"Wait, you did all that!?" Applejack shouted. "WHY!?"
"Because this is a reunion." Spyro replied. "it's a time when family should be getting together, reminiscing about old times, what's been going on in their lives, heck, even have some fun, not put them to work like it's another day at the farm!"
"But Ah was trying to help make everything perfect!" Applejack replied. "Ah wanted to make sure that there were enough fritters for everypony, wanted to make sure the quilt was finished this year, heck I even wanted to make sure the foals had as much fun as possible!"
"By making them exhausted?" Spyro asked, raising an eye brow.
"Spyro, Ah love ya and all, but ya can;t go around messing everything Ah planned up." Appeljack said. "Ah just really wanted to make everything perfect."
"Remember Casa de Madrigal?" Spyro asked. "How the grandmother wanted everything done perfectly and in a certain way?"
"Yeah, so?" Applejack asked.
"You're starting to turn into her." Spyro replied, surprising Applejack. "You so badly want to make this Reunion the best ever that you don't realize that what you had planned was making everyone miserable. They didn't come here just to work, but to have fun, catch up with family, heck, even to make newer memories and introduce newer members of their family to the rest of the family."
"But yer undermining everything Ah'm doing!" Applejack shouted.
"How am I undermining everything?" Spyro asked. "You asked me to help make this the reunion great, so all I'm doing it fixing the issues that are caused by poor planning."
"Poor planning!?" Applejack shouted. "Everything was perfect before you went and meddled in everything!"
"How am I meddling when all I'm doing is fixing everything!?" Spyro shouted back. "Fixing the mistakes that you're currently making!"
"Oh, ya wanna help, do ya?" She asked. "Well, ya'll can start by not helping out anymore! The hay ride is next and there isn't any room for somepony who goes behind my back and undoes everything Ah'm doing!"
"WHAT!?" Spyro shouted, clearly frustrated with Applejack. "You know what, fine! Do it your way then. If this is how you treat ponies whop are trying to bring a little fun into the reunion, which you failed to put down in your little plan of yours, then count me out of the reunion!"
"Fine!" Applejack shouted.
"Fine!" Spyro shouted back.
He extended his wings and flapped them hard, flying off into the air while leaving Applejack alone, grumbling to herself as she went down and went to fix everything she had planned that Spyro ruined. In his garage, Spyro was walking in, clearly frustrated with Applejack for what she said, yelling his frustrations out as he punched a wall, his entire hoof going through the wall before pulling it out and the arms got to work repairing the damage, Spyro grumbling to himself as he got the small device he was working on back out and got to work fixing it up, getting hsi tools out and making some adjustments to it as Braeburn walking in, looking at his garage in amazement as he approached.
"Wow, we ain't got nothing like it in Appaloosa." Braeburn said. "This is far out."
"What is it Braeburn?" Spyro asked, using a miniature welding tool to weld the device together. "I'm busy."
"Just wanted to see if ya wanted to join the hay ride." Braeburn said, noticing how upset Spyro was. "What's eatin' ya bud?"
"AJ, that's what." Spyro said, putting the tools down. "She wants to make this the best reunion ever, but all she;'s done is turn this entire thing into another day at work. I mean, seriously!? All I was doing is helping out, trying to make this the best reunion I could, but Applejack goes about turning it into work! Having the adults do an assembly line to try and get as many fritters done as possible, making Granny Smith and the other elderly earth ponies use Jerry rigged sewing machines that have a motor that could have blown up and injured them, heck even making an obstacle course that will tire the fillies out and make them collapse! It's like she did all this without think about making it fun for everypony. Then she went and had the gaul to accuse me of undermining everything she did, not even listening to a word I said!"
Spyro slammed his head on the table, clearly frustrated with Applejack and her plans while Braeburn just smiled, walking over and placing a tray of fritters down, pulling up a seat to sit with him.
"Yeah, Ah hear ya." Braeburn said, taking a fritter. "We Apples tend to have a knack for being stubborn."
"Gee, ya think?" Spyro said, takign a fritter. "I never argued with her before. In fact, I've never had an argument with anypony in my herd, or with Scootaloo. How about you? Ever had an argument with your siblings?"
"Ah wouldn't know." Braeburn replied. "Ah'm an only child."
"Heh, same here." Spyro replied. "Before I adopted Scootaloo."
"Wait, she's not your biological sister?" Braeburn asked.
"Yeah, she isn't." Spyro replied. "I took her in when I heard her parents left her in the orphanage. My parents tried to give me a sibling so I wouldn't be lonely, but it was never meant to be. They tried seven times to have kids. I was lucky number four."
"Ouch." Braeburn said. "So, you're the lucky one. Does that mean..."
"Yep." Spyro replied. "The other six times weren't successful. Miscarriages."
"Yikes, that can't be easy." Braeburn said, munching on a fritter. "Ya know, if Ah know my cousin, which Ah do, she'll soon realize that she was wrong to be accusin' ya for trying to help when she sees how unhappy everypony is and apologize. Ya know, the way she had us at the Fritter station, you'd think she was having a bake sale and everypony there was lining up to have some of the best food they ever tasted."
"Oh, don't remind me about that." Spyrio said. "You should have seen this one noble during the Grand Galloping gala and how disrespectful he was. Heck, nobles there wouldn;t kow good food even if it hit them in the face. I mean seriously, how they can stand to eat the slop they call food is beyond me."
"Ah hear ya." Braeburn said. "Give me the county side and a good farm any day and Ah'm all set."
They both laughed a bit, Spyro feeling much better after talking with Braeburn as he left, allowing Spyro to get back to work on the device he was making for Scootaloo. While he was busy, the portal was starting to act strangely as the vortex inside of it turned from purple to red, humming something, but Spyro didn't, too focused on his project until the image of a lion appeared in the portal, looking around before looking to Spyro, pondering if he had the right place.
"Are you the son of Adam?" The lion asked.
His voice echoed through the garage, reaching his ears and making Spyro look around, summoning his Keyblade as he looked around.
"Who's there!?" Spyro asked, instantly on high alert. "Show yourself!"
"Are you the son of Adam?" The voice repeated, Spyro's guard rising as he looked around.
He kept looking around until he looked to the portal, finding that it was opened and looking through was a lion, starring at him, but not will ill intent, but with curiosity, making Spyro approach it.
"What's a son of Adam?" Spyro asked.
"You can understand me?" The lion asked. "That's good. We need your help, Son of Adam."
"Look, my dad's name isn't Adam." Spyro replied.
"It doesn;t matter who your father is." The lion replied. "All that matters is that you are a human."
"Wait, you know what I really am!?" Spyro asked, feeling a chill run down his spine. "How!?" Before the lion could answer, the image faded, leaving him confused about what the lion was talking about and how he knew he was a human and not a pony, looking worried as he thought about the encounter. "AIVA, ran a back channel trace on the portal. See if you can pin point where the communication came from."
"Sorry sir, but I cannot." AIVA replied. "There is too much interference, preventing me from tracing where it came from."
"Well, has there been any report from the probe?" Spyro asked.
"Negative sir, nothing has come in yet." AIVA replied. "It's possibel that the probe is having the same interference issue as we are. The only way to find out is to travel through the portal."
"And we don't know what's on the other side as of yet." Spyro said, growing more and more worried. "Keep this thing on lock down until further notice. I'm going to join the reunion again and see how things are going. Hopefully AJ might have calmed down enough to talk."
Spyro then walked out to rejoin the reunion, hoping nothing bad had happened while he was away as AIVA put more power into the barriers preventing anything from coming through, but as he left, the portal turned from red to blue, a human woman appearing in the image wearing a white fur dress with a crystal ice like wand, looking through and seeing the world before her before her own image faded. As Spyro got to the reunion, everyone had already gone on the hay ride, leaving him behind, which he understood as he probably wouldn't be welcome by Applejack if he came along and was abouit to return to his garage when he looked up, seeing a flurry of rainbow colored fruit bats, Spyro remembering that Granny Smith told them they only stayed in the western portion of the orchard. But that was when he could feel everyone's fear, realizing that the bats were swarming the ponies on the wagon as it came charging out of the orchard, everyone diving out as Spyro leapt into the air, spinning as he was dodging before landing on the ground, turning to watch as the wagon hit the barn, completely destroying it.
"What have Ah done?" Applejack asked, tears in her eyes.
"Is everypony alright!?" Spyro shouted, seeing that no one was hurt, walking over to Applejack, seeing how upset she was. "AJ, you ok?"
"Ruined." Applejack said, tears rolling down her face. "Everything is ruined."
"AJ, it's alright." Spyro said. "The main thing is, no one was hurt."
"But they almost were!" Applejack said, clearly upset. "You were right Spyro. By trin' to make this reunion perfect, Ah terrorised my family, putting them at risk and destroyed our barn! I ruined everything." A second later, Granny Smith and Apple Bloom walked up, seeing how Applejack was as she wiped away the tears. "Granny, Ah'm so, so sorry. Ah ruined everything."
"Ah, it's alright Applejack." Granny Smith said. "What matters is no pony was hurt.
"But it's not alright Granny." Applejack said. "Just look at the barn. It's destroyed, like my plans for the perfect family reunion."
Spyro looked to the barn, seeing that it was completely wrecked, but then looked to the ponies, seeing them gather around as a lightbulb appeared over his head, changing into one of those swirly lightbulds before turning on, everything pausing around him as he looked to the reader.
"What?" Spyro asked. "It's good for the environment." He then wrapped his foreleg around Applejack's shoulder, pulling her in for a hug as he smiled. "Well, maybe this is actually a good thing."
"Have ya flipped yer lid Spyro!?" Applejack asked. "How the heck is this a good thing!?"
"Applejack, ya had us so caught up in the doing that we never got to have fun with those we were doing it with." Granny Smith replied. "Why Spyro here understood that there was a lot to do in the reunion, but knew that it was more fun to enjoy the company of those around us and having fun doing it together."
"R-really?" Applejack asked, everyone nodding their headfs, which seem to make her feel worse. "Oh granny, here you went making me in charge of making this reunion the best one out there with many wonderful memories, but the only thing anypony is going to remember is what a disaster it was."
"Oh, don't say that AJ." Spyro said, wiping a tear away from her eye. "Besides, the day isn't over and everyone's still here. There's still plenty of time to make wonderful memories. Including taking a photo in front of the barn."
"How can we do that?" Applejack asked, looking at it. "It's destroyed."
"Not for long though." Spyro said, confusing Applejack as he rushed away.
He got into the middle of an open area and slammed his tail into the ground, a green aura luminating from it as several massive trees burst out, shocking everyone as they grew bigger and bigger before stopping, Spyro smiling as he leapt into the air and extended his forelegs out, gusts of wind and ice forming at his hooves as two massive, razor sharp disks appeared created from the ice s he swung them forward, cutting the trees down before whistling again, all four arrows coming out of his jacket and cutting through the trees, turning them into wooden planks of varrying sizes, slamming into the ground again and sending a massive cunch of iron ore into the sky, looking up and unleashing a torrent of fire, heating it up before jumping and punching the iron, turning them into nails as they cooled off, forming into a very neat pile as he landed, smiling at what he did.
"Wow." Babs said. "I didn't know he could do that."
"Looks to me like we got a new activity here folks." Spyro said, music starting to play. "And I bet we can make this into something that is fun and not so much as a chore. You all with me!?"
"YEAH!" They all shouted as the music started to pick up, Spyro hitting his hoof into the ground four times in perfect rhythm as the music started.
[Spyro]
Yee-hoo!
Raise this barn, raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
Together, we can raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
A second later, members of the Apple Family started ti get into the rhythm of it, thinking that a Barn Raising was exactly what they needed to get things back on track while making it fun for everyone, getting to work as they started to move the beams for the frame while having the strongest, including Spyro, lift them up.
Up, up, up, go the beams,
Hammer those joints, work in teams!
Turn 'em round quick by the right elbow
Grab a new partner, here we go!
[Apple family]
Yeah!
They already had the frame completed in a few mintues, dancing around and enjoying themselves rather than making this seem like hard labor, Applejack looking and seeing all the fun everyone was having and finally realizing that what she did to try and make the reunion perfect was wrong, smiling as she got up, getting out of her depressed mood as she joined in, wrapping around Spyro's foreleg as they danced.
"You getting in the beat AJ?" Spyro asked. "I hope so, because I can't do this on my own. Are ya ready!?
[Apple family, Applejack]
Yeah!
[Applejack]
Raise this barn, raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
Together, we can raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
Finish the frame, recycling wood,
Workin' hard, you're doin' good!
Turn 'em round quick by the right elbow,
Grab a new partner, here we go!
[Apple family]
Yeah!
[Applejack]
Whoo-whee!
The frame was fully built and secure, Spyro making sure and nodding his head, letting them know it was complete as everyone took a break, Applejack passing out apple juice while Spyro got his food sunthesizer out to get them some food, but as expected, it blew up on him, barely missing the frame as everyone either laughed or wiped their foreheads, relieved he didn't hit the frame.
[Applejack]
Raise this barn, oh, raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
[Spyro]
Together, we can raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
[Applejack]
Slats of wood come off the ground,
[Spyro]
Hold 'em up and nail 'em down!
As they were nailing everyone, one pony got Spyro's tail by mistake, thinking it was a large nail and hammered it, making him yelp.
OW!
Hey, that's not a nail, that's my tail!
[Applejack]
Turn 'em round quick by the left elbow,
Grab a new partner, here we go!
[Apple family]
Yeah!
The roofing and the flooring for the barn were almost done, everyone working in unison to get everything done.
[Applejack]
Come on, Apples! Get 'er done!
[Apple Bloom]
Look at us, we're family!
[Working]
Workin' together thankfully.
[Apple Bloom]
We Apples, we are proud to say,
[Applejack and Apple Bloom]
Stick together the pony way!
[Applejack]
Bow to your partner, circle right,
[Spyro]
Get down if you're scared of heights.
[Applejack]
Forward back and twirl around,
[Spyro]
That barn's gonna be the best in town!
[Apple family]
Yeah!
[Spyro]
Yee-haw! Attagirl!
[Apple Bloom]
Alright, let's get to it!
[Apple family and Spyro]
Raise this barn, raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
Together, we can raise this barn,
One, two, three, four!
They got the walls up at last and then got the paint buckets out, placing them on the ground and getting some brushes, getting ready to paint.
[Applejack]
Take your brushes, young and old,
[Spyro]
Together, paint it, bright and bold!
[Applejack]
Turn 'em round quick by the left elbow,
[Spyro]
Grab a new partner, here we go!
They finally finished the barn and it looked good as new, everyone standing around it, their hard work paying off and having had some fun doing such, Spyro wrapping his foreleg around Applejack, the two love bird smiling as they looked at one another lovingly.
[Apple family and Spyro]
We raised this barn, we raised this barn,
Yes, we did.
Together we sure raised this barn,
Yes, we did.
Being together counts the most,
We all came here from coast to coast.
All we need to strive to be,
Everyone gathered around the front of the barn, which the camera was set up and put on a timer, which Spyro set up as he quickly zipped around to be apart of the photo, standing next to Applejack before smiling and picking her up, taking her by surprise as he held her in his forelegs while standing on his hind legs, surprising Applejack, but they just smiled at one antoher, rubbing their noses before looking at the camera.
Is part of the Apple family.
[Apple Bloom]
Yeah!
The camera flashed, taking the photo as everyone laughed and had fun after that, some still dancing while the fillies went about playing some more, having fun with their favorite cousins, Spyro even got to take some of them up in his ship as well, flying around and doing all sorts of stunts. As it was getting later and later in the evening, everyone had already left except for Babs Seed, not getting on the carriage as she had previously asked her parents if she could stay at Sweet Apple Acres for the week, her parents saying yes to her as there wasn;t any school and were glad their daughter was wanting to spend more time with family and make new friends. In the house, Spyro was helping Granny Smith and Applejack put the photo's in the album.
"Gotta say, that was a great reunion." Spyro said. "Even if there were some issues with it."
"Yeah, sorta my fault." Appeljack said. "Uh Spyro, about what Ah said earlier-"
Don;t worry about it AJ." Spyro said, smiling at her. "Water under the bridge. I don't hold grudges."
"Say, these were some great photo's!" Apple Bloom said. "Heck Spyro, yer in every one of them!"
"Well Ah had to include him in as many memories as possible." Applejack said. "Not everyday yer colt friend is a prince. Gotta be proud to show that."
"Heh, guess you could say that AJ." Spyro said, looking at the photo album. "Glad I got to meet all of your relatives to... hey wait a minute. Who are they?"
Spyro pointed at a photo of a couple of ponies with Applejack no older than ften and Big Mac, who seemed to be sixteen at the time, and Apple Bloom, who seemed to only be two. As Applejack had a look, her face went pale as she saw the photo, remembering everything as she started to shiver, which spyro could sense and looked at her.
"That would by my son, Bright Mac." Granny Smith replied. "And my daughter-in-law, Pear Butter. They're my grand babies parents."
"Why weren't they at the reunion?" Spyro asked, sensing the farm mares discomfort and fear rising.
"Spyro... please... stop." Applejack said, rushing out of the room and up the stairs, hearing her door slam shut.
"It's a very sensitive topic Spyro." Granny Smith replied. "What happened to them left it's mark on Applejack."
"You mean... they're..." Spyro started to ask, looking at Big Mac as he nodded his head.
Spyro looked up to the floor above, sensing how upset Applejack was as Granny Smith closed the book.
"When a rescue party found them, there was hardly anything left." Granny Smith replied. "Applejack was there helping her folks. She said that before what got her parents could get her, somepony with a yellow laser sword like what you got came and saved her."
"Another Jedi!?" Spyro asked, shocked to hear that as he looked at Granny Smith.
"Don't know." Granny Smith replied. "He came one day, cloaked in a white robe and wearing some kind of mask to hide his face, bringing Applejack home safely. The rest... we didn't need to ask."
Spyro's heart dropped, looking back up to the floor above as he felt aweful about bringing such a painful memory up, everyone leaving to get some rest while Spyro went up with them, but instead of going into his room, he knocked on Applejack's door and slowly opened it, looking in to see the farm pony on her bed, crying as she laid there. He approached slowly, careful not to set her off as he placed his hoof on her shoulder, which she didn't pull away from as he sat down next to her.
"AJ... I... I'm sorry." Spyro said. "I didnt mean to bring up such a sensitive topic."
"I-it's fine Spyro." Applejack said, sitting up and looking at him with puffy red eyes. "Y-you didn't know."
"Tell me... if you can." Spyro said, holding her hooves. "What happened?"
Applejack fought through the tears, wiping them away before looking outside working up the courage to talk.
"W-we were making a pie run." Applejack said. "Mah and pa allowed me to come along that year, to sell some of our pies. But we were running behind schedule, so we took a route through a swamp. But... but there was a monster there, waiting."
Applejack suddenly choked, her heart racing as tears rolled down her eyes, remembering everything, which Spyro could sense and see as her mind was wide open to him, seeing everything play out before reaching over and pulling her in for a hug, stroking her head while trying to calm her down.
"Shh, sh, sh, it's ok AJ." Spyro said softly, doing his best to calm her down. "You don't need to continue. I can tell how hard it is for you."
"There was somepony else." Applejack said, fighting through the tears and her squeaking voice. "Dressed in white, some kinda mask. He had a lightsaber."
"Yeah, granny told me." Spyro said, still stroking her head. "A yellow lightsaber. Another Jedi."
"Yeah... a Jedi." Applejack replied, starting to shiver. "Why didn't he save them? He was strong enough to do so! Why?"
"Maybe he didn't get there in time." Spyro replied, still stroking her head. "But I'm glad he saved you AJ. If he didn't, I wouldn't have met one of the most beautiful and honest ponies in my life right now."
Applejack looked up at Spyro, her heart still racing as she remembered that day and when he sacrificed himself to save Princess Cadence, not wanting something like that to happen again and without warning, Applejack lunged up and the two of them kissed, Applejack and Spyro enjoying the moment when they fell onto the bed together, happily enjoying their kiss as the lights went out in the house one at a time, ending the day as the sun was setting, allowing for the night to come and to allow for the chaos of the day to end with a peaceful nights rest.
