On Halloween morning, Leon woke up to the sounds of Draco gripping about Harry, as he often did, so he sat up agitated and groaned at him, "Malfoy, would you just shut your gob, for once. No one cares about your obsession with Harry."

Draco looked furiously over at Leon. "I am not obsessed with Potter! I am merely telling how he is a useless idiot, and don't get me started on that filthy Mudblood of yours."

In that moment, Leon stood up and turned his steely grey eyes onto Draco. He walked over silently and looked down at him through his long, dark purple hair. "What did you just say, Draco?" he asked, venom in his voice.

Draco scoffed, thinking nothing of it at first. "I was just saying that your little Mudblood Granger is just as bad if not worse than Pot-"

Draco was cut off by Leon grabbing him by the collar and putting his wand in his face, Leon's own face stone cold and lethal as he growled under his breath, "Listen here, if you ever call Hermione that name again, especially in my presence, I will make sure you never open that gob of yours again, ye daft ejit!"

For a moment, Leon could've sworn Draco had wet himself, feeling the full fury of a noble Pureblood with a higher renown than his family had, but he didn't think to much of it as he let him go. After that, Leon left the dormitory to go get a shower, and then go to the great hall to have breakfast, meeting up with Hermione and Harry.

Harry and Hermione, seeing Leon finally arriving for the day, both smiled brightly and wished him a very happy birthday, which instantly lightened his mood. "Thank you both so much," he said, a tinge of a blush finding its way onto his cheeks.

Hermione smiled more brightly and handed Leon a present. "I know it isn't as grand as the presents you got me on my birthday last month, but I hope you like it, Leon. I had to have my parents send it."

Leon accepted the gift thankfully and opened it, seeing that it was a copy of the Lord Of The Rings books Hermione had told him about recently. "Oh my, it's that book written by the Muggle author that you told me about that had magic! I can't believe it! Thank you so much!" Leon leaned over and hugged Hermione tightly, and without thinking kissed her cheek.

Hermione blushed in surprise, then Harry handed Leon his gift. "I wasn't sure what to get you, so I got you this. It's not much, but I hope you like it anyway."

Leon grabbed the gift from Harry and opened it to see a small chest of butterscotch candies, which happened to be Leon's favorite.

"I have no idea how you managed to get ahold of this, but I love it, mate," he said with gratitude and gave Harry a tight hug.

Immediately after, a familiar owl had soared into the great hall, a parcel clutched securely in its talons.

Leon smiled, knowing that the owl and parcel were from his mum, so he gave the owl a treat and some pets before opening the present that his mum had sent him. In awe, Leon had noticed that it wasn't just one gift for him. It was something for the three of them: a trio of silver rings of goblin make with a different gem for each. The ring for Leon held an emerald to represent Slytherin, Hermione's held a sapphire to represent Ravenclaw, and for Harry the ring held a ruby to show Gryffindor. Leon didn't hesitate to present his friends with their respective rings, and the three smiled, putting the rings on their right middle finger without a moment's hesitation. The rings all promptly shrunk to fit each finger perfectly.

"Goblins are truly masters of their craft," Leon said, always having a large amount of respect for the goblins and their work.

As the day went on, the three hung out as much as they could, but closer to dinner, Leon had heard that Hermione had been crying in the girls' lavatory due to some torment thrown her way, and decided the sit outside and yell through the door to try and comfort her so she would come out. Little did he know that this decision would come back to bite him in the rear. About fifteen minutes later, Hermione came out and hugged Leon tightly. "Thank you so much for being here for me. You didn't have to, though. I mean you must be hungry."

Leon merely hugged her back, rubbing her back gently to let her know he was there for her. "I know I didn't have to, but you are my closest friend. I did need to be here. Besides, we still have time for dinner; we just have to make it to the great hall."

After a few more comforting moments, they separated from the hug and started heading to the great hall. When they turned the corner, they stopped and stared. They had come face to face with a fully-grown mountain troll. Upon realizing their situation, they both came to one conclusion simultaneously: trying to make a run for it. Unfortunately for Leon, the effort was not fast enough as he was caught by the swing of the troll's club half way down the hall.

Hermione looked back right as Leon was hurled across the hall, slamming into the wall and falling to the ground, bloody and unmoving, causing her to scream out, "Leon, NO!"

He watched her fight back against the troll with all her might, moaning pitifully as his world sank into darkness.

Due to the injuries he had sustained, Leon was unconscious for about two weeks, during which Hermione and Harry were by his side for at least a while every day, but always as much as they could be before Madame Pomfrey told them to leave. Over those two weeks, there was also the matter of legal problems for the Hogwarts staff as a full investigation was launched to ensure the safety of the students, thanks to the letter sent to Leon's mother by Hermione the night of the attack.

Once Leon had awoken, he sat up slowly, coughing and grunting in pain. "What happened?" he muttered, not noticing Hermione sitting next to him until she cleared her throat to get his attention.

She then squeezed his hand, saying softly, "You nearly died getting hit by that mountain troll. You have been in a coma."

Leon turned his head, eyes wide with fear, and stammered, "How long was I out?"

"About two weeks," Hermione replied, knowing it was a lot to take in for him, and continued. "It was lucky for us that Harry had noticed we were missing from the great hall that night, and told the teachers where we were."

In shock, Leon just shook his head. "I can't believe that a troll got into the castle. I mean, it is supposed to be the safest place in the country."

"I know," said Hermione, "but at least you're alive and safe now."

Hermione then caught Leon up to speed on what has been going on while he was out, from what happened when teachers finally found them to the fury his mother displayed at what happened to him to the investigation that would be haunting Hogwarts' walls soon because of the incident. She then let him know that his mother would want a letter as soon as he was finally awake. After taking some time to process everything, Leon picked up a nearby piece of parchment and a quill, so he could write to his mum and let her know he was okay. Even if he was still sore; he had broke several bones and suffered a concussion after all. Hermione took the letter from him to send later, then sat next to him on his bed and hugged him, gently crying.

"I was so worried about you. I thought you died when I saw you hit the wall," she choked out between small sobs.

Leon winced a little, but hugged her back. Noticing his pain, she let go, remembering the extent of his condition. "I'm sorry! I shouldn't have hugged you so soon."

Leon reassured her gently, saying, "It's okay. I know you were worried, and I'm sorry I worried you so much. Thank you for being by my side. I'm glad that the first face I saw was yours, because it means you're safe."

Hermione giggled softly to herself, still teary eyed as she said, "You might be the smartest guy I have ever met, but you are an idiot."

This put a smile on Leon's face, as he realized that he just helped his best friend get into a better mood.

The next day, when he was released, he went on to do all the classwork he missed during his stay in the hospital wing, and came to realize that his hospitalization had been widespread news. So many people had been happy to see him back, which surprised and perplexed him, but in a pleasant way. The one that surprised him the most was his head of house, Professor Snape, who genuinely seemed to have worried about him the past two weeks. While unsure of why, he shrugged it off, knowing he had a lot of work to make up and a difficult recovery period ahead of him.
