~ Sixteen-year-old Naruto is sexually assaulted by some of the villagers and refuses to talk about it. Sasuke, in his desperation to know what happened, forces a forbidden jutsu on him that connects their minds. Naruto tries to distance himself from him, but when the villagers come back to finish what they started it is only because of that jutsu that Sasuke is able to stop them. He has Naruto live with him, hoping to keep him safe, but Itachi shows up and destroys any semblance of peace.

~Itachi and Kisame take Naruto and lock him up in a cell, but Sasuke and Kakashi find him. Naruto is severely injured trying to protect Sasuke from his brother, and Sasuke starts to unravel as he thinks about how weak he was- how he failed to protect him.

~Naruto warms up to Sasuke in the hospital and the two are a couple! They go home together and have a beautiful night of passion, but their happiness doesn't last. Sasuke abandons Naruto in his obsession to get stronger. Naru falls apart but our lovely Kakashi takes him under his wing.

~Three Years Later: Sasuke is Orochimaru's apprentice. The snake is excited to show him their newest prisoner and Kabuto's next test subject. Sasuke is shocked to find that it is the love of his life, the person he betrayed- Naruto. He's even more surprised when he realizes that their minds are still connected, a detail he keeps to himself (among others..). Naruto let himself get captured, unbeknownst to them, because he hopes to convince Sasuke to come home. Sasuke tries to act apathetic towards him, but seeing Naruto's nightmares starts to thaw his cold heart.

~Kabuto has been experimenting on jinchuriki for a while now and is thrilled to have the Nine Tails in his lab. He manages to block Kyuubi and tortures Naruto- sending shocks through his temples and spikes into his hands and feet, shredding them. In his panic, Naruto mentally screams for Sasuke and once again his long-lost love doesn't fail him. Sasuke beats the shit out of Kabuto and whisks his blonde away. He keeps Naruto locked up in his room, and Orochimaru sees an opportunity. He invades Sasuke's body with the power of the curse mark and takes control of him. He attacks Naruto but is stopped by Itachi.

~Itachi tells Sasuke to kill Orochimaru and to come find him, then takes Naruto and disappears. He brings him to a hideout where we see the many sides of Itachi. He can be callous and cold, but he cares about Naruto. Itachi's feelings for him grow. And as much as Naruto doesn't want to admit it, his do too. Sasuke reluctantly teams up with Kakashi and his crew to find Naruto. He hints at killing Orochimaru but leaves out the details.

~Itachi senses Sasuke getting close and attacks Naruto, forcing himself on him so that his brother can see. He wants Sasuke to hate him, to kill him in a blind frenzy. He showed Naruto the truth about the Uchiha clan before so that he can share it with Sasuke later, shattering his mind just enough to get the Mangekyou. Itachi pulls them into an illusion and shows Sasuke what has happened between him and Naruto, fueling his rage.

~Naruto finally manages to tell Sasuke the truth about his brother. In his desperation to have Sasuke do what needs to be done, Itachi nearly rapes Naruto, but Kurama takes over to protect him. Sasuke and Naruto fight Itachi, who loses his will to live now that everything's fallen apart around him. Kakashi slits his throat and Itachi uses his final moments to show Naruto how they had started to fall for one another. Then he's gone.

~Naruto is a mess; Sasuke is a prisoner. They convince Tsunade not to imprison Sasuke by putting him under house arrest instead, but Naruto has to stay with him since he can read his possibly traitorous thoughts. Unable to hide the truth, Naruto shows Sasuke his softer moments with Itachi and immediately regrets it. They fight and Sasuke ends up injured. Naruto rushes him to the hospital, where they start to patch things up. A bitch nurse (Sakura) takes a photo of them together, which becomes a problem later.

~Sasuke is chakra-less and under house arrest for around ten months. Him and Naruto become a team afterwards, and have been since. Sasuke ended up getting the Mangekyou Sharingan after finally agreeing to see the truths that Itachi had shared with Naruto. He's conflicted enough for it to form, but not completely sure it was worth it.

~Naruto and Sasuke disconnected their minds about a year after his sentence is up, and both have mixed feelings about it. Neither put voice to it. On a mission they recall the photo that circulated the village and the angry mob that disrupted a passionate night because of it. Naruto is being targeted by people, some skilled shinobi, some the very villagers that attacked them that night, but they don't know what they're planning.

~Naruto's birthday: Sasuke finds him in the cemetery and there is a beautiful moment where Sasuke introduces himself to his boyfriend's deceased parents. He treats Naruto to ramen and hopes to do more, but Obito has other plans. He pulls Naruto into his Kamui, leaving Sasuke behind. He restrains Naruto in a cave and tries to separate Kyuubi from his host. This is where Kurama tells Naruto his real name. Meanwhile, Sasuke finds Kakashi and our favorite silver fox realizes that his long-lost love, Tobi, is still alive.

~Kurama is at full strength again and under Obito's control. Naruto and Sasuke manage to stop the fox before he can reach Konoha, and Kakashi confronts Tobi. Obito doesn't want Kakashi to know this dark twisted version of himself, but Kashi isn't willing to lose him twice. When Obito lets an attack land on him, Kakashi uses a forbidden jutsu to keep him alive. It'll cost him some years off his lifespan, but he doesn't care.

~Kakashi disappears with Obito and Naruto is heartbroken. Sasuke convinces him that they should go find him and they leave, without permission of course. Naruto finds the forbidden telepathic jutsu in Sasuke's bag and confronts him about it. They both admit that they miss being connected and, despite Naruto's trepidation at first, they decide to do so again. Sasuke fucks up soon after when, in his jealousy, he throws Itachi's assault back in Naruto's face. And mind. He realizes his mistake, but Naruto isn't ready to forgive him.

~Kakashi and Obito show up and pull them into the Kamui. They release them in a hideout- one very similar to the cabin Naruto was forced to stay in with Itachi. It brings back a lot of unwanted memories that put even more strain on his relationship with Sasuke. They want to leave, but a barrier around the place keeps them from escaping.

~Naruto channels chakra into the barrier for the millionth time and starts to feel it give. He looks up and realizes it is because someone is doing the same thing on the other side. Sai. They slowly draw closer, but Naruto pauses to mentally call for Sasuke to join him.

~Sai grabs Naruto and yanks him out of the barrier, and everything changes. He locks something around Naruto's neck that drains him and Kurama of their chakra, then physically restrains him. Naruto watches in horror as Sai's features melt away and someone else's replace them. Kabuto.
