Yaz sighed and started collecting the rest of her clothes. She knew Doctor craves family more than anything else. That she wanted to have her place in the universe. But she also worried that Susan might changed too much for Doctor's liking. She was more afraid of Doctor's reaction than Susan's. All things considered that beautiful alien woman was just like everyone else. She hated changes. Even though she was going through some real changes everytime she died, she hated it. Yaz looked at herself in the mirror before leaving the room. She was so preoccupied with her thoughts, her body acted almost mechanically, so she was fully dressed. She smiled at herself weakly, like she wanted to convince herself this will go just right and left the room.

Doctor was already at the console room, setting her ship to takeoff.

'Where are we going again?' Yaz asked standing next to her partner.

'Earth. 22nd century. Just where I left her... Oh, I should apologize, should I?' Doctor turned to Yaz.

'Well... How exactly did you guys parted?' Yaz grabbed her hips and looked her in the eyes.

All of the sudden Doctor's behaviour changed. Like she was ashamed of her actions.

'I... I slammed the TARDIS door right before her nose and told her she's all grown up and her place is with the man she's clearly in love with.' she said looking down and then she quickly added. 'If I haven't done that, she'd leave him for me. I wanted her to have something I've never really had.'

Yaz sighed. 'Yes, you should apologize. Make it sound like you mean it, okay?' she pulled her closer.

Blonde still looked a bit down by her own realisation.

'I should have handled things in a different way... But I was young and proud... Too proud. I felt like she betrayed me by developing feelings for him.' she wrapped her arms around Yaz's neck. 'She's probably over him now. She sounded more mature... I hope she's over him.'

Yaz chuckled. 'Are you still jealous, Doc?'

'Me? Jealous? That's absurd.' she smiled. 'I don't mind sharing you with my wife, so how on Earth can I be jealous of some dude my granddaughter is probably over with.'

Brunette watched her girlfriend in the state of total denial. She considered whether to tell her or not.

'I'm just some random human you've picked on the road. She's your family. Real flesh and blood. I think all those women you've traveled with since Susan, were meant to fill that hole in your heart. Hole you created yourself.' she said.

Doctor now giggled. 'Well you're great at filling not only that one hole.'

'Doc, I mean it. Take it seriously, please.' Yaz insisted disregarding the innuendo.

Seeing Yaz's straight face, Doctor sighed.

'Fine, I will... Can we go now?' she said to please her woman, not because she agreed.

Yaz nodded and gave her a quick kiss. 'Just... Behave, okay? I'll be right next to you at all times if you need something.'

Doctor smiled to the kiss. 'Yasmin Khan, how do you do it?'

Yaz also smiled. 'What do you mean?'

'Whatever I decide, even if you don't agree with my choice, you're always there for me.' Doctor said.

'Because I love you, dummy. All of you. Skeletons in the closet and all.' Yaz answered with a warm smile, but Doctor giggled.

'Be careful, my love. I have pretty big skeletons in my closet.' She said and grabbed Yaz's hand to put it on the last lever. 'Shall we?'

They both pulled it and the TARDIS took off.

As soon as they landed Doctor sprinted to the exit.

'Doc, wait!' Yaz yelled after her. Blonde stopped and turned around holding the doorknob.

'What?' she asked.

'Don't you think we shouldn't break the news to her a bit later? I mean... I'd like you two to have a chance to catch up first, before you would tell her about us...' Yaz slowly joined her. Doctor took a look on her face. She looked a bit overwhelmed.

'Of course, Yaz.' she assured her and Yaz's face became brighter right away. 'You're right... Me being a woman is not a big deal, but... You're absolutely right. I will break this to her slowly. Once she'd forgive me for leaving her here.' she tried to smile. 'Oh... I'm feeling nervous... Why am I nervous? Are you nervous?' she started to talk really fast.

Yaz took a deep breath. 'She's your granddaughter and you haven't seen her in ages. You have the right to be nervous.' she took her hand. 'But I'm here. I got you.'

The couple shared another passionate kiss. Somehow it made them feel better and more confident.

'Okay, let's do this.' they finally left the ship and immediately were astonished by the surroundings. Doctor looked around.

'They did really good job cleaning up after the war with Daleks... Last time I was here it was a mess. Have I told you about that adventure?' Doctor turned to Yaz and she shook her head. 'Okay, maybe another time...'

'Doctor... It's amazing! Look at the buildings. They're all shiny and new and futuristic...' Yaz said, still amazed.

Blonde shrugged. 'Well... You wanted to go on a date, didn't you?' she asked and Yaz giggled. 'We can just explore the city later. I have to admit I'm excited too... Look at what they did in... Hold on, what year is it?' she asked herself.

'2186.' They heard from behind. They quickly turned around. 'Over 20 years since I last saw you, grandfather. Or should I say grandmother.'

There she was. Susan. She was now middle aged woman. Doctor's eyes filled with tears of joy.

'Susan. My child. Oh... How come you are already all grown up? You haven't changed at all.' she almost ran up to her to embrace her in her arms. Susan smiled widely and hugged Doctor like an old friend.

'Well your body might have changed, but I can still see it's you, in your eyes, grandmother.' she said. The women stayed in tight embrace for longer than Yaz expected.

'I'm so sorry I left you here, my dear child. It was so stupid of me... I...' Doctor's apology was interrupted by Susan, who raised her hand in shushing gesture.

'I know. I have to admit, I was devastated at first. You cut the cord so abruptly I didn't know what to do next... For years I hated you for doing that.' as she was telling her story, Doctor's face became more and more embarrassed and uncomfortable, but she knew she deserved that, and she has to let her granddaughter to do that. 'It was selfish and immature of you to do that. What you didn't let me say, when you took off without me, was: I'll always be your little girl. A girl you raised and with whom you had to escape our planet. Nothing and no one can change that what we experienced together. And that's only thing that matters to me. We're family.'

For the first time since Yaz knew Doctor, she could tell that that smartass alien was speechless.

'Susan... I don't deserve that. I was too proud to admit you were grown enough to decide on your own. I was too proud to even told you that I love you.' Doctor said with tears in her eyes.

'I love you too, grandmother. Apology accepted.' Susan smiled and hugged Doctor once more. That was the moment when she noticed Yaz. 'Oh, you brought someone with you?'

Doctor wiped her tears and left her granddaughters embrace. 'Yes. This is Yaz. She travels with me now... You know like you used to.'

Yaz still touched by their reconciliation tried to find her voice in her throat.

'Hi... It's an honour to meet you.' She reached her hand for Susan to shake, but instead, Susan hugged her too.

'Nice to meet you too, Yaz. Hope she's been good to you.'

Yaz chuckled. 'She's the best.'

Susan smiled warmly. 'I bet she is...' she released Yaz. 'So... Do you want to see my place?' she asked both of them.

'We'd love to, right Doc?' Yaz answered looking at her woman.

'Of course we would. Lead the way, Susan. I love what you did to this place.' Doctor said happily.

Susan for a second looked like she'd like to say something, but then changed her mind.

'Come along then.' she said and started walking. 'Grandmother, you might remember this place...' she pointed at the buildings nearby.

Doctor smiled. 'I do remember. We have ran our anti-Dalek campaign from this place.'

Yaz just looked around while Doctor chatted with her granddaughter. She kept a bit of distance, so they could feel more comfortable. Not a long walk later, they stopped at the doorstep.

'Well... Here we are. My home.' Susan smiled and opened the doors for them. 'Make yourself at home.'

Doctor and Yaz entered a small, but cozy apartment. You could tell that Susan did miss her grandfather. Small TARDIS figurines and round things were to be seen everywhere.

'Oh, I love those round things.' Doctor also noticed them. 'Do you remember what they were for?'

Susan shrugged. 'No idea, but it just reminds me of our old home.'

Doctor smiled widely. 'I really like it.'

Susan smiled too. 'Fancy a cuppa?' she offered. 'Please sit down.' she pointed at her couch.

'That would be lovely, thank you Susan.' Yaz answered sitting down on the couch. Doctor, guided by force of habit, sat closely, too close to Yaz and then, seeing her face, quickly moved a bit further.

'So Yaz, from which year did she pulled you out of?' Susan asked from her open concept kitchen, connected to the living area, Doctor and Yaz were.

'Um... 2018 I think? I was with my friend Ryan at the train cart and she fell from the sky. She was very surprised when I called her madame' Yaz giggled giving her woman a loving look.

'Ah, that does sounds like her. And what did you do for living then?' Susan carried on.

'I am... I was a police officer.' Yaz answered a bit down.

Doctor seemed confused. 'You still are one, Yaz. That thing you pulled on Missy the other day? Completely badass. So don't say you were an officer, because you still got it. You are a strong woman, without whom I'd be in much darker place.'

Yaz smiled and Doctor patted her back.

'Wow. Thanks Doc. I really appreciate it. Never thought of myself that way.' Yaz said.

'Well... That's why you got me.' Blonde put her hand on Yaz's knee for a second, and removed it as quick as she saw Susan turning towards them with cups of tea. She handed them to the couple and sat across the table from them. She watched them for a second and asked.

'And how long is this going on?' she picked up her cup and took a sip.

Doctor choked on her tea and Yaz tried to remain calm.

'I beg your pardon?' she asked.

'Oh I'm sorry, let me rephrase...' she crossed her legs and asked again. 'How long are you two sleeping together?'

Yaz blinked a bit too fast and Doctor, who just stopped coughing, tried to calm, her breath.

'I'm sorry, what?' Yaz asked again.

'I asked how long have you been screwing my grandmother.' Susan remained as calm as she was before.

'Oi. Language, my child.' Doctor scolded her.

Susan gave them a look and they both sighed.

'What gave us away?' Blonde asked.

Susan chuckled. 'What didn't? Firstly... He... Well she never liked being called "Doc". I remember you told that to Ian many times.' she pointed at Doctor, and Yaz turned her head towards her too.

'Wait. You don't like that?' she asked.

Doctor sighed. 'It's not like that. Like I said, I was young and too proud to call myself other things than The Doctor...' she painted quotation marks in the air. 'But I do like when you call me that.'

Yaz seemed content with this answer.

'Secondly...' Susan carried on. 'You smell of each other.' she took a sip of her tea. 'And it takes a while for people to smell alike, so I'm guessing you spend a lot of time together.'

Doctor and Yaz looked at each other with guilty faces.

'And thirdly... You're not good at hiding it at all. All those not-so-random looks, gentle touches, the way you talk... It all gives you away.' Susan concluded her statement. 'So, how long?'

'I'm impressed. But actually, you're her flesh and blood so I shouldn't be surprised you can see more.' Yaz said. 'Not too long. Few weeks, probably. Feels so much longer though.'

Susan sighed. 'I figured she'd finally find someone she'll love.'

Doctor smiled proudly. 'See? I told you she'll be fine with that.' she told Yaz and Yaz frowned.

'I'm sorry. I just didn't want to drop this all over you right away, Susan. I thought you guys should catch up first.'

Susan reached to Yaz over the table and put a hand on her own.

'That was really thoughtful of you, love.' Then she turned to her grandma and said. 'I'm happy for you. I really am. Can't wait for my husband to return from work, to tell him the news.' she seemed happy, but Doctor's face went blank.

'Husband? What husband?' she asked and Susan giggled.

'Oh, grandmother. You and your sense of humour. David. You know David. My David.' she said merrily. 'Actually our 20th anniversary is tomorrow. That's why I called.' she carried on. 'I'm sorry I didn't tell you this earlier.'

Blonde looked like she was struck by a train. She couldn't say another word. Yaz noticed that and took the lead.

'We'll be more than happy to join you in your celebration. We actually planned to go on a date soon.' she said, taking Doctor's hand.

Susan beamed with happiness. 'Look at us, grandmother. Never thought we'd go on a double date together.'

Yaz smiled widely, but Doctor still seemed overwhelmed, so Yaz poked her in the ribs with her elbow.

'Ouch... What? Yes of course, my child. Can't wait to see your husband again.' she said with pretended joy. There was something about the way she pronounced "your husband" that gave Yaz weird feeling, but she decided to keep quiet and talk it through with her without Susan.

'Wonderful. We're all set then. Anyway, if you want to go back to TARDIS and "freshen up" a bit before dinner, here's your chance.' Susan got up and collected empty tea cups. 'Dinner is in an hour.'
