"Well, that could have gone better," Delta Dawn raised an unimpressed eyebrow at the Techno King. Trollex groaned and put his face in his hands. "What were you hoping that would accomplish?"
"Seriously, Babe. That conversation could have waited until we were alone." Barbed narrowed her eyes, concerned. "You're usually the relaxed one in this relationship. Are you okay?"
"Not really," Trollex admitted, frustrated. He sighed and looked at Barb. "Tell me I'm not the only one seeing how Willow acts. Tell me you see her acting like she's not important."
"Sure, I see it," Barb shrugged. "But until we can talk her into seeing a therapist, there's not much we can do." She raised an eyebrow. "You calling her out during a meeting was a bad call, though."
"I know," Trollex groaned. "Now she's upset, and I don't know what to do."
"Talk to her," Poppy smiled at the Techno King. "I know why you're frustrated. I saw it on this last trip, too. She's spent her whole life worrying about Branch and what his mental health needs, but I don't think she knows how to take care of her mental health." She gave the group a sheepish smile. "And you know as well as I do that the Pop Trolls don't have much in the way of mental help. Willow is stubborn, though so you're not going to get her to talk about it by confronting her."
Poppy crossed her arms and gave the King a comforting smile. "Don't worry about how upset she is. She loves you guys and as long as you apologize, she's going to forgive you. Just tell her you're there for her when she needs you." She stood up and looked at the rest of the leaders. "And with that, I officially call this meeting to a close. As Willow said, a party is going on outside, and you are more than welcome to join it." She patted Trollex on the shoulder as she walked past him to the door. "I'm going to find Branch."
Barb nodded and stood up. "Yeah, this was fun and all, but we need to go check on Willow." She grabbed Trollex's arm. "Come on, Fish Stick. You got some apologizing to do."
Trollex nodded and stood up. "Yeah, I guess I do." He smiled at Barb. "Let's go find Sweet Beat, Barbed Wire."
"What did you two do?" Branch demanded, storming up to the two royals. Poppy followed behind him and his older brothers nervously. "We just watched our little sister storm off in tears. She refused to say a word to me before she left. What did you do?"
"A conversation just got a little heated," Barb wrapped an arm around Trollex. Trollex chuckled sheepishly and looked away from the irate brothers. "Things were said by both sides that probably shouldn't have been. But don't worry. We'll talk to her and get it all taken care of."
"You better," Bruce crossed his arms and glared at the two royals. "I don't know what's going on, but she looked upset. And I don't like my little sister being upset."
"We'll go talk to her," Trollex assured. He looked around. "Do you know where she went?"
"Not a clue," John Dory shrugged, a concerned look on his face. "I'm hoping it's just because we don't know the area very well."
"I know where she probably is," Branch raised an eyebrow at the two royals. "And if you think about it, I bet you know too."
Barb narrowed her eyes in thought before nodding. "Yeah, I think I know where she is." She smiled at Branch. "Thanks, man. Don't worry, we'll talk to Willow and make things right."
"See that you do. I won't be able to relax properly until I know my sister is feeling better." Branch narrowed his eyes at the two before turning around and leading his brothers back to the party, Poppy following behind him after giving the royals an encouraging smile.
"Where is she?" Trollex asked Barb as the duo walked through the village. "You do know where she is, right? That wasn't just something you said to calm Branch down?"
"I know where she is," Barb assured. "We've been there a couple of times. She likes to go there to think." She led him to the grotto Willow had claimed as her hide-away spot. The two paused when they heard a guitar being played inside.
"I can slay my own dragons," Willow sang softly as she played her guitar. "I can dream my own dreams." She pulled a pen out of her hair and wrote some words on the piece of paper in front of her. "My knight in shining armor is me. So I'm gonna set me free."
Willow sighed and placed her guitar down in front of her. "Are you going to just stand there or are you coming in?" She looked at the two as they stepped inside the grotto. "Have you come to lecture me about what I should be feeling some more?"
Barb raised an eyebrow at their girlfriend and leaned against Trollex. "Should we be? Storming out of meetings isn't something you usually do." She shrugged when the Pop Troll didn't answer. "Anyway, that's not what we're here for." She nudged Trollex in front of her.
Trollex sighed and walked over to Willow, careful not to get too close. He wasn't sure how mad she was at him and didn't want to invade her personal space if she didn't want him near. "Hey, Sweet Beat." Willow sighed and pulled him to the log she was sitting on, making him sit beside her. He smiled when she laid her head on his lap and grabbed his hand. "I wanted to say I'm sorry. I was worried about you, but I should have never said all of that in front of the other leaders. The words I said, while out of love, were out of place and seriously undermined your authority as Pop Ambassador." He sighed and ran his fingers through her hair. "I should have waited until we were alone to talk about all of this."
"I should be the one apologizing," Willow said after a moment. "You were so worried about me and instead of taking your concerns seriously, I acted like it wasn't a big deal." She turned her head so she could look at him. "I am so sorry for that. Your feelings matter, and that doesn't change just because I didn't understand why you were feeling like that."
Willow sighed and turned away from Trollex's face. She clutched his arm close to her chest. "I've been a hypocrite. I thought about what you said. About how listening to others insult me was hurting you and how much you hated it?" She smiled when she felt her legs being lifted onto Barb's lap. "It made me think about the times I almost killed Creek for insulting Branch. I get it now, I think. But I'm not good at reading emotions and I don't always understand why others feel the way they do."
"Hey," Trollex pulled Willow's hand up and kissed it. "It's alright. We just need to work a little harder on communicating why we're upset. We'll be okay."
"Yeah," Willow nodded, a smile on her face. "We're okay."
"Glad that's settled," Barb grinned, leaning on her girlfriend's legs. "Now we should talk about why this happened to begin with. Why the Fish Stick blew up in the first place?"
Willow pulled her hand away from Trollex and sighed. "Right, my 'poor self-esteem issues.' But I don't have poor self-esteem."
"So why do you let those Trolls talk about you like that?" Trollex asked, confused. "You're one of the best Trolls I know."
"Thanks," Willow smiled before frowning again. "I let them talk like that because I know it isn't true. I deal better with facts, not emotions. While their words are their opinions, I know the truth. And I know they're wrong. I do amazing work as the Pop Ambassador, I've helped save my tribe twice, saved music, and brought my family back together. I'm easily the best baker around, and I am the planner for all major events in TrollsTopia. The words of some old Trolls and Creek are not going to change how amazing all of that is."
"And the thing with your brothers?" Barb asked, raising an eyebrow. "Fish Stick wasn't wrong when he mentioned you act like you don't matter when it comes to them. What's all that about?"
Willow shrugged and sat up between the two royals. "I deal in facts, remember? And here are the facts as I see them." She held her hand in the air to count them out. "I was an egg when the brothers separated. I wasn't even a blip on their radar when they took off. Then Grandma died and I wasn't enough to keep Branch from going grey. It took Poppy to get his colors back. Clay didn't even bother stopping by to check on us, and he was living in the tree. I don't even know where John Dory was, but he knew we were alive for months before coming to see us, and that was only because Floyd was dying. Face it, when it comes to my brothers, I've never been enough."
Barb shared a look with Trollex before they looked at their girlfriend in concern. "Yeah, that's it. You need therapy, Babe."
"You are good with facts," Trollex added, wrapping an arm around Willow's shoulders. "So let me give you a few more. Sure, your brothers left when you were young, but you should have seen the looks on their faces when they realized they had a baby sister. And yeah, Branch was grey for a while, but that's not your fault. You gave him something to fight for, even if it didn't bring his colors back. And I don't know what Clay's deal was, but I'm sure him staying away wasn't because of you."
"You're gonna have to talk to him about that sometime," Barb added. "You're not gonna feel better about him staying away until you do."
"Yeah," Willow sighed and looked at Barb. "Maybe we can talk about that therapy thing you mentioned. But it can't be anyone from here." She gave her partners a sheepish smile. "Our best therapist is a glow-worm."
Barb and Trollex looked at the girlfriend, matching deadpanned expressions on their faces. "Yeah," Trollex shook his head. "We'll have to find you someone else." He chuckled and pulled the Pop Troll into a hug. "Don't worry, Sweet Beat. We'll find you a good therapist." He sighed when she held him tight. "You know we love you, right?"
"I know," Willow smiled into the hug. "I have some pretty great partners." She pulled away from Trollex, a serious look on her face. "But if you ever call me out like that during a meeting again, I will be withholding kisses." She laughed at the panicked look on Trollex's face before kissing his cheek and standing up. "Let's get back to the party." She grabbed her partners' hands. "I'm sure the bros are worried about me."
"They were worried," Barb nodded as they left the grotto. "Hey, what was that song you were working on? It sounded nice."
"Oh, that?" Willow blushed. "It's just something I'm working on for Viva. She seems like she could use a bit of a confidence boost."
The trio chatted for a little while as they made it back to the party. "There you are!" Branch called, relieved. He ran over to his little sister. "I was starting to think they couldn't find you." He hugged her before looking at her concerned. "What happened? Are you okay?"
Willow smiled at her brother. "Just some uncomfortable truths being revealed," she hesitated before continuing. "I'm not exactly fine, but I'm okay. At least, I will be." She looked at her brothers as they walked up to her. "If it's all the same to you, I'd like to go party for a little bit before we go back home. Sound good?"
"Yeah," John Dory smiled, taking a bite of the cake he was holding. "We should definitely party some more." He frowned and chewed the piece of cake slowly before swallowing. "Hey, quick question. What kind of cake is this?"
Willow looked at the cake with a frown before smiling. "It's called a hummingbird cake. It's a Country classic."
"And does this have pineapple in it?" John asked, setting the piece down.
"Of course," Willow nodded, confused at the questions. "I mean, it usually has pineapples, bananas, and pecans." She gave Floyd a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, I replaced the pecans with sunflower seeds so you could have some." She looked at John Dory concerned. "Is everything okay?"
"Sure!" John Dory smiled widely as he began to scratch his throat. "Just one tiny thing I forgot to mention." He chuckled sheepishly. "I'm allergic to pineapple."
I know this is a shorter chapter, but I wasn't sure how to end it. The next chapter would have felt weird. And our Trio is alright everybody! And some therapy may be in Willow's future once they find a good therapist. Next time, we'll be having an important talk with Clay. There are some things that definitely need to be said. Thanks for reading everybody!
