Chapter 501 Storming the Castle

Bubblegum and her team of five made their way to Count Nogrog's castle. The group was a bit surprised that they had their powers in the virtual world and they were still equipped with their weapons and gear from the real world. It seemed like Silico and Gridface Princess wanted to give Bubblegum and her team a fighting chance in this game, which was nice of them, but this also hinted that game and the quest was going to be tough. Bubblegum wondered what kind of challenges laid in store for her and her allies, from both the game and the various other players. There also appeared to be a bridge to the castle and there was a moat filled with lava.
"So what exactly is going to happen if one of the other players manages to beat the quest before we do?" Asked Lucinda.
"My guess is that they'll get some kind of big reward from the game and we won't get the alliance from the Mountain Kingdom and the Gridface Kingdom." Said Chicle.
"You don't think they'll try to betray us and try to capture my mother for the reward do you?" Asked Neddy.
"It's doubtful, this game is a fair challenge and neither the Mountain Kingdom nor the Gridface Kingdom appeared to be hostile to us or have any alternative motives. They don't strike as fans of my father and his allies." Said Chicle.
"Well that's one less thing to worry about." Said Bubblegum.
"So what kind of challenges do you suspect will face?" Asked Turquoise.
"Probably a lot of enemy players, monsters, a few bosses, before we reach the big boss of the quest." Said Marceline.
"One step at a time. We've come this far, we can beat this quest." Said Bubblegum.
They continued on, until they were a few hundred yards away from the large castle and decided to stop and rest behind some large rocks and observe what was going on around the area surrounding the castle. There seemed to be a few hundred players scattered about fighting large numbers of skeleton warriors wearing knight armor, who must be enemies in the game made to protect the castle and fight players. The players were a different story. Half of the players appeared to be various normal beings that lived in Ooo armed with many different types of weapons, some of the players were dressed as knights, vikings, barbarians, bikers, wizards, superheroes, super villains, cops, football players, hockey players, rockstars, royals, lumberjacks, cowboys, ninjas, samurais, construction workers, wrestlers, pirates, deep sea divers, postal workers, and clowns. A few were dressed up as Finn. Other players appeared to have changed their virtual appearance to make themselves look like celebrities from the Earth's past and various fictional characters from comic books, tv, and movies.
"Well this is an odd sight." Said Neddy.
"Sure are a lot of them, you think they might attack us if they saw me?" Said Bubblegum.
"They might. Good thing is if we die in this game we just simply end up back in the real world, but I believe we would lose the quest and any chance of gaining the support of the Mountain Kingdom and Gridface Kingdom." Said Chicle.
"I think I see a some of Gumbald's people among the crowd. Mainly the lower ranked underlings, but there could be some upper and more dangerous ones out there somewhere, they could just be disguised as someone else." Said Marceline.
"You think we could get any of those players to side with us?" Asked Turquoise.
"Maybe if we make them a big offer. We don't really know what any of these players get if they're the ones who beat the quest." Said Chicle.
"What about those guys dressed as Finn, maybe they'll help us." Said Neddy.
"Why are so many people dressed as Finn?" Asked Bubblegum.
"Well Finn was a publicly known hero and adventurer that people loved and respected even after hundreds of years after he died. I'm guessing all those players dressed as Finn are really big fans of his." Said Lucinda.
"They could be our best bet. Alright let's head down to see if we can talk with them and convince them to help us." Said Chicle.
The group began to make their way down towards the edge of the fighting and stopped. Neddy focused on a large blue man with a red beard dressed as Finn finish clobbering some enemy skeletons. He used his psychic powers to lift the man into the air and carry him above all the fighting before placing him in front of Bubblegum and the others.
"What gives? Who are you?" Asked the confused man.
"I am Bubblegum, former ruler of the Candy Kingdom and these are my allies. Chicle, Neddy, Turquoise, Marceline, and Lucinda. We are on a important quest and we have to be the ones that defeat Count Nogrog to do that and we can use your help or whatever group you're a part of help." Said Bubblegum.
"Wait, so you're that royal the Great Hero Finn had a crush on before moving on to Phoebe the Flame Princess?" Asked the man.
"I...am. I'm surprised you know that bit of history about Finn and me." Said Bubblegum.
"Finn is an inspiration to all of us who joined and formed the Finnland Federation Guild." Said the man.
"Finnland Federation Guild?" Asked Neddy.
"We are a group of people that learned about Finn and his exploits and became huge fans of him. Eventually we formed our own guild online and here we are today." Said the man.
"Interesting." Said Chicle.
"So what's your name?" Asked Bubblegum.
"I'm Dan the Finn Fan."
"Nice to meet you Dan, would you and the rest of the Finnland Federation Guild please help us complete this quest, we can use all the help we can get." Said Bubblegum.
"Why do you need to complete a video game quest for anyway?" Asked Dan.
"This quest is all part of a test created by the champion of the Gridface Kingdom. We need to complete it before anyone else can to form an alliance with both the Gridface Kingdom and the Mountain Kingdom. We need their help and their armies to go against Gumbaldia and save Ooo's future." Said Bubblegum.
"Interesting. According my records Finn had very mixed thoughts and feelings about you before you vanished. However Finn did have a code to help those in need if they were being sincere and needed help to takedown a great enemy or threat to Ooo. Gumbaldia and it's forces are a real threat to Ooo and it's people, so the Finnland Federation Guild will assist you in this quest." Said Dan.
"Oh thank you so much. This really helps." Said Bubblegum.
Dan pulled out what appeared to be a yellow firecracker and lite the fuse. The firework flew into the sky and exploded into a image of Jake's face. All the players wearing Finn costumes saw the image and raced to Dan's side and another dozen or so suddenly appeared in a flash of ones and zeroes. Dan faced the gathered players.
"People of the Finnland Federation Guild. I have just been approached and asked for assistance by Queen Bubblegum former ruler of the Candy Kingdom. She has asked us for assistance in completing this quest. Apparently it is of great importance to the future of Ooo. Our hero Finn would assist her in this quest, despite past issues and I say we should do the same." Said Dan.
The players looked at each other and exchanged some whispers before one by one they began to speak.
"It's Adventure Time!"
"Let's do this thing!
"Onward to Victory!
"Let's help Bubblegum in the name of Finn!"
"Freedom!"
Bubblegum felt a great sense of hope. She and her allies were going to be assisted by a group of people who were big followers and fans of Finn. In a way Finn was helping Bubblegum from the past, which was also weird since he's reincarnation was also helping her."
So what's the plan?" Asked Bubblegum.
"There's a bridge not too far away from here that leads to the inside of the castle. Theres a Question Master that guards it and you have to answer some questions to cross his section of the bridge. Do that and you'll be halfway across, where you'll have to fight some weird dragon turtle creature to get through the other half and enter the castle. We will guide you to the bridge and fight whatever gets in the way. Some of us will defend the bridge to prevent others from entering and some of us will come with you into the castle." Said Dan.
"Sounds good enough." Said Neddy.
The members of the Finnland Federation Guild surrounded Bubblegum and her allies and they made their way to the bridge fighting game enemies and players along the way. Eventually they made it to the bridge where they found a man with a mixed up 2x2 Rubix cube for a head with a facial feature on each square wearing a black robe. This had to be the Question Master.
"Answer we these questions three and I'll let you pass, but be warned if you get them wrong you will be cast into the moat of death and killed." Said the Question Master.
"Why do we have to answer any questions, can't we just walk across the bridge?" Asked Marceline before attempting to cross the bridge only to bump into an invisible barrier.
Marceline tried to attack the Question Master only to be met with another barrier.
"That would be too easy." Said Lucinda."It's annoying." Said Marceline.
"Alright. I'll go first. Ask your questions." Said Neddy.
"What is your name?" Said the Question Master.
"Neddy."
"What is your quest?"
"To defeat Count Nogrog and win the alliance of the Gridface Kingdom and the Mountain Kingdom."
"What is your favorite color?"
"Pink."
"You may pass." Said the Question Master.
Neddy shrugged his shoulders and walked onto the bridge.
"Seems easy enough. I'll go next just to make sure it's really safe." Said one of the Finn players stepping up to face the Question Master.
"What is your name?"
"Tim."
"What is your quest?"
"To aid Bubblegum and her allies in defeating Count Nogrog."
"How many Banana Guards does it take to change a lightbulb?"
"Huh? I don't know that!" Said Tim.
"Then you fail!" Said Question Master.
Tim was then magically sent flying through the air screaming and fell into the moat exploding into a flash of light.
"Seriously? My Banana Guards weren't that dumb were they?" Asked Bubblegum looking to Chicle and her allies.
"They kind of were." Said Chicle.
"Note to self make Banana Guards smarter, when return to my proper time." Said Bubblegum to herself.
"I'll go next." Said another Finn player facing the Question Master.
"What is your name.
"Bob."
"What is your favorite color?"
"Pink...Wait! I meant blue!" Said Bob.
"Wrong!" Said Question Master before Bob was sent flying into the moat screaming.
"Man at this rate we won't have much of a team left." Said Turquoise.
"This is taking too long." Grumbled Marceline.
"Let me go next. I think I might be able to fix our situation." Said Bubblegum stepping up to face Question Master.
"What is your name?"
"Bonnibel Bubblegum.
"What is your quest?"
"To defeat Count Nogrog and gain the alliance of the Gridface Kingdom and Mountain Kingdom."
"What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen Green Lard?"
"A Northern Lard or a Southern Lard?" Asked Bubblegum.
"I don't know that." Said the Question Master.
A few seconds later the Question Master was sent flying through the air screaming and sent flying into the moat. Bubblegum just smirked as the rest of her party just stared at her.
"How do you know so much about Lards?" Asked Lucinda.
"When one becomes a ruler of a kingdom that is rich in food and treasure it's best to know the habits of creatures that could pose a threat to it and it's citizens." Said Bubblegum.
"Nice. Looks like whatever barrier was up went away, when that Question Master guy got thrown into the moat." Said Marceline as she got onto the bridge with no problems.
"That's good and all, but I think we just created some new problems for ourselves." Said Dan indicating a group of players who had stopped fighting amongst themselves and had taken notice of the bridge which no longer had a Question Master defending it.
"Oh boy. Looks like we're about to have a lot of company." Said Lucinda pulling out her hammer.
The Finn players pulled out their weapons and Dan began to give orders.
"Half of you do your best to defend the bridge, while the rest of us head to the castle." Said Dan.
The players nodded and prepared to face the other players fusing at them. The charging players only got a dozen yards when there was a loud thunderous boom in the distance that made them all turn to see two newcomers arrive on the scene. The first was a enormous man dressed head to toe in black armor riding a equally enormous horse. His helmet had horns on the side, with a red glow coming from his face guard, he had two spiked shoulder pads, and carried a red glowing sword. The other newcomer was a tall man dressed in purple, black, and grey cybernetic samurai armor, yellow lights were on the legs and arms of the armor giving them the appearances of faces, he had buzz saw-like shoulder pads, nine long spikes hung from his back, and he wore a horned helmet with piercing red eyes that concealed his face.
"Who the heck are those guys?" Asked Turquoise.
"It's the Wraithmaster and Ultimate Gamer the two best players in Venture Point! No one knows who they are in real life. They must be here for the quest and we just made it easier for them by getting rid of the Question Master!" Said Dan.
"You guys can stop them, can you?" Asked Chicle.
"No, we can hold them off, but not for very long." Said Dan.
"Then we got to race forward then." Said Marceline as she and the others began to race across the bridge.
Bubblegum, Neddy, Chicle, Turquoise, Marceline, and Lucinda raced across the bridge with Dan and a dozen Finn players. They raced for all they were worth as they heard the sounds of fighting behind them as the other Finn players engaged the enemy players. The team soon came across a massive black turtle with claws the size of a small house in their way. The turtle let out a fierce roar as it blew fire at the heroes forcing them to dodge to the side to avoid getting hit, four of the Finn players were struck by the fiery blast and exploded into light. Bubblegum and her allies ran under the turtle or around it as they raced to the castle entrance. The turtle turned to chase after them. The heroes reached the entrance and Bubblegum saw a large red button on the ground. Not knowing what it was she decided to press it and see what happened.
The section of the bridge that the team had crossed vanished and the turtle let out a scream of rage as it fell into the moat and exploded! The team looked down at the moat and then at the remaining section of the bridge that was still standing and saw Wraithmaster, Ultimate Gamer, and several other players glaring at them.
"10 minutes for bridge section to be repaired." Said a computerized voice.
"Not much of a lead, but it'll have to do." Said Neddy.
"Alright let's go slay this Count Nogrog creep!" Said Marceline.
With that said the team raced into the castle to begin the next part of their quest.
