TW: Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, she is. Yeah, not that surprising that Ross and Eiling would be thick as thieves. Thanks.
DCMarvel heroes: Glad you enjoyed it. The Cold Gun is definitely something Ross would want to get his hands on. Glad to hear it. No, that was a nice benefit, but Lana went after the Prometheus suit largely because she thought she deserved it more than Lex.
Gallifrey 22.3: Glad you enjoyed. Ross was watching Thawne long before Ronnie was on the table, he was always going to try and recruit him, Ronnie was just a convenient excuse. Yep. The Watch Dogs were into antigovernment acts and targeting Inhumans, not the trafficking of them. You'll see on Ross.
The Raft
Night
Barry merely stared at the image of Wells using his speed for a few moments, his brain trying to process everything he had seen. Finally, he spoke.
"Why are you telling me this?" Barry asked Ross, his voice no louder than a whisper.
A smirk crossed Ross' face a split second before he clicked the button a gain. The holographic screen faded before the three speedsters, Ronnie and Clark found themselves surrounded by some kind of barrier shield.
"What is this, Star Wars now?" Clark asked as he looked at the barriers.
"I know you can phase through walls and the Blur is strong enough to smash through them, but you can't get passed pure energy," Ross said smugly.
"So all that was just you stalling, messing with Barry?" Jay demanded.
"Oh no, it was all true. But you don't have to take my word for it, ask him," Ross said, gesturing behind them.
As one, the speedsters and Clark turned around, seeing Wells standing up, facing them all with a dark look on his face.
"Well, it appears the time of falsehoods is over. Was this always your plan, to expose me?" Thawne inquired as he walked forward, looking at Ross.
"Not until I knew what you were. I suspected you were trying to raise an army of Enhanced, never did I imagine that you were one of them," Ross sneered in disgust.
"Why do you hate us so much?" Bart asked him.
"No one should have the powers you possess without answering to someone like the military. You run around unchecked, flaunting your powers. No one person should hold that much power!" Ross ranted, his own hypocrisy lost on him.
Barry wasn't listening to any of this, staring at Wells, his mind a swirl of betrayal, sadness and anger.
"Why?" Barry asked his voice no louder than a whisper. "Why did you do it?"
"It was never my intention to kill your mother, Barry. I wanted to kill you," Wells revealed.
"Why?" Barry demanded and Wells smirked.
"I suppose we should start with introductions, as we've never been properly introduced. I am Eobard Thawne," Thawne introduced himself.
"Thawne? Like Eddie?" Barry asked.
"A distant relation, but he is of no importance," Thawne said as he walked over, stopping just outside the barrier, standing face to face with Barry. "Believe it or not Barry, I am sorry it came to this."
"At Christmas…there were two of you," Barry said and Thawne smirked before speeding back and forth so fast it appeared there were two of him.
"It's a speed mirage. An afterimage, I suppose you could say," Thawne said once he stopped.
"Why have you been helping me if you wanted to kill me?" Barry demanded.
"Because I needed you to get fast, Barry. Your speed is the key to me getting what I want," Thawne explained.
"Which is what?" Clark asked and Thawne smirked.
"All in good time, Mr. Kent. But first-"
Thawne disappeared in a blur and Ross blinked, realizing he no longer had the remote in hand. Thawne stood a foot away from him, clutching the remote in hand.
"You're not a stupid man, Ross. You wouldn't do this if you thought even for a moment that I might kill you. So, give me one reason why I shouldn't," Thawne demanded.
"Because I don't think you want the entire world to know what you are. I have this entire room hooked up to security cameras that are recording us live. It's being sent as we speak to some of my men back in Washington. And if you kill me, they have orders to release it worldwide. I imagine that might prove…inconvenient to you," Ross noted and Thawne chuckled.
"Well played, Mr. Secretary. You're right; being a wanted man would be problematic for my plans. So for now, you get to live," Thawne said, before pointing the remote at the barrier. "But you won't be keeping them."
To the shock of everyone, Thawne deactivated the barrier before sending his vibrating hand through the remote, destroying it.
"Why release us?" Jay inquired and Thawne smirked.
"Because, Mr. Garrick, I need Barry to get faster. He can't well do that locked up in here," Thawne said before looking over at Barry. "Get faster Barry, much faster. Then, come find me."
Thawne then turned and sped away. Barry moved to go after him but Clark put a hand on his chest, stopping him.
"Barry, I know how you must feel right now, but there'll be time to go after Thawne later. We have a job to do," Clark said gently but firmly.
Barry wanted to snap but paused at the look in Clark's eyes. It wasn't empty words; Clark really did know how he felt. So, taking a deep breath, Barry nodded, letting go. Seeing Barry do this, Clark nodded as well before turning back to Ross.
"You said the days of us running around unchecked were over. Well, Mr. Secretary, your days of holding people like us hostage are numbered. Don't get too comfortable down here. Sooner or later, everyone is going to know the kind of man you are," Clark told Ross coolly.
Clark, the speedsters, and Ronnie then vanished in the blink of an eye, leaving Ross seething.
Metropolis
Same time
"Tony, you don't understand," Steve tried to reason as he got to his feet.
"Get on your knees and put your hands on your head. Final warning," Tony warned, his hand held out, Gauntlet glowing with power.
"Cap, what do we do?" Sam asked softly, waiting for Steve's orders.
"Distract him, and then you, Oliver and Sara make a break for it. We can't let this chance pass by," Steve ordered just as softly, knowing Tony was too far away to hear.
"You sure about this?" Sara asked quietly.
"No. But it's the best chance we have. He's not here to kill us, Clint and I can handle him," Steve said confidently.
"I've got an idea. In about ten seconds, run," Sam said.
"Last chance. Put down your bows and go quietly," Tony told them, no sign of hesitation on his part.
It was then that Sam struck. While Tony's attention was focused on them, Redwing flew up behind him, opening fire on Tony's face plate. Tony immediately dodged and that was when they sprang into action.
Sam took off into the air while Oliver shot off an arrow with a line, grabbing Sara as he used the line as a zip line. Clint then fired an arrow at Tony. Tony easily grabbed it before it could hit him. However, the arrowhead then exploded, sending the surprised Tony flying back a few inches before planting his feet on the rooftop. Even from behind the face plate, Steve and Clint could see the glare on Tony's face.
"That was a mistake," Tony snarled.
"So was bringing my family into this," Clint said, notching another arrow.
Before Clint could fire it, Tony shot off two repulsor beams, which Steve and Clint just barely managed to dodge.
Down below, people were screaming as Sam landed on the street, looking around in all the chaos. After a few seconds, he spotted Lana being pushed into a limo.
"I have eyes on Lang. She's leaving in a black limo, headed west from my position, I'm going after her," Sam said, taking off into the air in pursuit of the limo.
"We're on our way," Oliver said, getting on a motorcycle, Sara jumping on the back before Oliver took off.
Unnoticed by Oliver, another motorcycle was behind him, someone wearing a helmet watching him before taking off after him, keeping a distance but not losing sight of him.
Inside, the fight between Peter and the Goblin continued. Peter tried punching the Goblin but the Goblin caught his arm and picked Peter up, slamming down onto the ground with enough force that some cracks appeared on the floor. The Goblin then tried to smash his foot in Peter's face but Peter rolled out of the way before shooting some webbing that wrapped around Goblin's hands, binding them together. Peter then yanked, hard, sending the Goblin crashing into a nearby table.
Peter pulled himself to his feet, walking over to the Goblin, who appeared out cold. Peter had just reached the Goblin when he broke his binds, shot up and punched Peter. Peter let out an 'oof' as he was thrown across the room, landing on his side. Peter grunted, beginning to pull himself up when his Spider-Sense went off. Peter's head shot up just as a pumpkin bomb neared him, already beeping. Peter didn't even have a chance to move before it exploded, sending him flying back.
"Any ideas?" Steve asked as he and Clint ran across roof tops, Tony in hot pursuit.
"I have something that'll take out his suit, but I'd prefer not to have another Rhodey incident," Clint said and Steve almost grimaced. "We need to get him to lower ground."
"I'll take care of that, you get ready," Steve ordered before turning back to Tony. "You want me Tony, come and get me!"
Steve then turned, running down a fire escape and jumping down. With a growl, Tony flew after him, completely ignoring Clint.
"Well, that's one way to do it," Clint muttered, grabbing an arrow from his quiver. "You need to get his mask off; otherwise he'll suffocate without a minute."
"Easier said than done," Steve said, running as Tony fired a repulsor beam, which he narrowly avoided.
"Well, as much as I hate him right now, I don't want Tony dead. So figure out a way," Clint told him.
"Where are you guys?" Sam asked as he flew after the limo. "I'm almost there."
"We're a few cars behind you. We'll be there in just a second," Oliver said as he saw the limo in his sights.
At that moment, another motorcycle pulled up beside Oliver. Out of the corner of his eyes, Oliver saw a flash of steel and Oliver instinctively swerved as the other rider opened fire. Sara pulled out a knife and tossed it, the knife striking the gun and knocking it out of their hand. Changing tactics, the rider attempted to ram Oliver, who swerved again, getting onto a sidewalk.
"We'll be a minute Sam; you're on your own!" Oliver told his teammate as he rode along the sidewalk, trying desperately to avoid any civilians.
"Guess it's all on me then!" Sam grunted as he flew full speed ahead.
The motorcycle rode up next to Oliver and Sara, the rider pulling out a baton and attempting to strike Oliver with it. With one hand, Oliver reached out; grabbing the end pointed towards him and grimaced, feeling his hand getting shocked. Sara sent an unexpected kick to the rider's side and they instinctively let go of the baton. Oliver tossed it aside as the rider peeled off, although they could see they weren't leaving.
"You okay?" Sara asked as Oliver put his hand back on the controls.
"That baton was electro charged. This isn't just some punk," Oliver grumbled.
"Prometheus?" Sara wondered.
"I'll be surprised if this isn't one of his lackeys," Oliver grunted.
"Get me out of this city, now!" Lana snapped to her driver from the back of her limo.
"We're on our way, Ms. Lang," the driver said quickly.
Barely had the words left his mouth when Sam flew down, planting his feet on the road and pushed the front pf the car, using his jetpack and grunting as tried to block the car. Successfully, he was able to force the car to a stop. Sam took a deep breath before straightening, looking through the windshield as Lana stared at him like a deer caught in headlights.
"I know you're in there, Power Broker," Sam said firmly. "I don't wanna take you by force, but I will."
Immediately, Lana's guards jumped out of the car, one of them firing at Sam. One of the wings moved, blocking the bullet, which was deflected harmlessly.
"Always has to be the hard way," Sam grumbled.
Tony was continuing to fly after Steve, who was running between alley ways. Then, Steve pulled out the grapple device he had used in Siberia, activating it. It shot off, pinning to a wall and creating a trip wire. Tony didn't have time to stop and ran right into it, spinning out of control and crashing into some nearby trash cans before falling to the ground.
Before Tony could even begin to get up, Steve had pounced on him, punching him left and right before, just as he had in Siberia, removing Tony's helmet.
"It's off Clint, whatever you're gonna do, do it now!" Steve shouted as he jumped off Tony.
Tony got to his feet, glowering at Steve. But, before he could do anything, an arrow landed in front of him. Tony looked down at it before it seemed to emit an energy burst that deactivated his suit, as well as the street lights, cars and whatever other electrical device around them. Clint then glided down on a zip line as Tony tried and failed to move.
"What was that?" Steve asked.
"EMP arrow. Takes out any electrical devices within ten feet. It lasts about twenty minutes. By then, we'll be long gone," Clint said, giving Tony a glare. "After what you did to my family, you're getting off light, Stark."
"You chose to break The Accords, Clint," Tony argued.
"I also chose to trust you. I won't make that mistake again," Clint said with a glare before turning to Steve. "Come on, Cap. We have a job to do."
Steve nodded, looking at Tony with a sad look before he and Clint began making their way out of the alley.
"You think you're heroes!? You're frauds, traitors!" Tony ranted angrily.
"Better a fraud than a sellout who sold out everything he believed in to make himself feel better," Clint said; neither turning around as they walked out of the alley.
In the now ruined club, the Goblin stalked over to the unmoving Spider-Man.
"In one week, you've gotten in my way three times. It's time to end this, Spider-Man," The Goblin said, grabbing Peter by the back of his costume and pulling him up.
He turned Peter around so he could see the front of his mask and froze. The blast had destroyed part of Peter's mask. Although he was unconscious, you could see his face and he was instantly recognizable behind the cuts and bruises.
"Peter," the Goblin muttered in surprise.
The Goblin then howled in pain, doubling over and dropping Peter to ground. Behind him stood Natasha, having taken advantage of his surprise by using her Widow's Bite on him. Matt then appeared over his shoulder, sending a powerful punch to his face followed by a roundhouse kick to the stomach. The blows sent the Goblin to the ground, groaning in pain.
"Don't move," Natasha ordered, training a gun on him.
"I think you'll find that advice a little…hard to take," The Goblin said as he lifted his head, laughing manically.
Matt heard it then and realized what the Goblin was doing. He tackled the surprised Natasha, knocking the gun out of her hand before the Goblin's glider came flying through the air, Matt barely managing to get Natasha out of the way. The Goblin pulled himself to his feet as the glider landed a foot away.
"Time for me to leave this party, but tell my friend Spider-Man something for me. We'll see each other again soon, real soon," the Goblin said as he got on the glider.
With another insane laugh, the Goblin took off on his glider, leaving through a broken window. Natasha and Matt got to their feet, Natasha staring after the Goblin for a moment as Matt went over to check on Peter.
"How is he?" Natasha asked as she glanced over at the two.
"I smell a lot of blood. He's pretty beat up. And I'm no doctor, but I think I feel some cracked ribs. He needs a hospital," Matt said grimly.
"And given that he's Spider-Man, that's gonna be a problem," Natasha noted and Matt nodded.
"I have a solution," Chloe said and the two almost jumped, having forgotten they still had comms in all the chaos. "We sort of have a doctor on retainer, someone who helps us out on the down low. Get Spider-Man back to Watchtower, I'll call him."
"This doctor, do you trust him?" Natasha asked.
"I do. He's a good man. And that's gonna have to be enough, Natasha, because Spider-Man doesn't have any other option besides exposing his identity."
Oliver continued driving down the street on the motorcycle, Sara gripping him tightly when the other motorcycle rode up beside him once more. The rider attempted to ram him but Oliver swerved out of the way before feigning left and, when the rider moved to follow, Oliver moved right, ramming the motorcycle. The rider was thrown from the vehicle, landing a foot away as Oliver pulled to a stop. The rider didn't move as Oliver and Sara stepped onto the road.
"One persistent lackey," Sara noted as they approached.
"If it is a lackey," Oliver mused as he knelt down. "Let's see who's behind that helmet."
Oliver grabbed the helmet and removed it. Oliver's blood ran cold as a cascade of blond hair fell down the rider's back and behind him, Oliver heard Sara make a sound of utter disbelief.
"Bobbi?" Sara asked in shock.
As if awakened by her name, Bobbi jumped up, tackling Oliver to the ground. The two former lovers wrestled on the ground for a few moments before Oliver sent a kick to Bobbi's abdomen, sending her flying back a few inches. Sara took out her baton as Bobbi rose from the ground, her regretful eyes meeting Oliver's stunned orbs.
Then, Bobbi threw what looked like a grenade to the ground. Oliver and Sara ducked for cover but it was just a smoke grenade, creating a smoke screen. The sound of a motorcycle signaled Bobbi peeling out, going in the other direction. It was silent as Oliver and Sara stared at the spot Bobbi had vanished.
"I'm not hallucinating, right? That was Bobbi," Sara said as Oliver picked up her helmet, looking down at it with conflict.
"That was Bobbi," Oliver said softly, wondering what exactly was going on.
"Look, you don't wanna do this," Sam warned the guards as they took aim at him again. "Just drop the guns and walk away."
They opened fire on him and Sam once more used his wings to block before the two guards were struck behind by a beam, crying out in pain before falling to the ground, unconscious. Redwing had shot them with a laser, incapacitating them but not killing them.
"Told you that you didn't wanna do that," Sam said before walking over to the limo.
Sam looked inside to find it empty. Looking around briefly, he saw Lana running across the street. Chucking, he used Redwing to shoot at her and Lana cried out as she was shot in the leg, going down.
"Sorry, but you're not getting away that easy," Sam said as he approached, grabbing her firmly but gently, forcing Lana into a standing position. "I have Lang. I'm taking her to the rendezvous point."
Without waiting for a response, Sam took off into the air, wrapping his arms around Lana as he flew towards his destination.
The mission may have made things far more complicated than it needed to be, but they'd captured the Power Broker. All things considered, it was a success.
The Raft
Same time
Wanda and Kurt led the four prisoners into the hanger, where their allies stood surrounded by unconscious guards.
"Nice of you to show up," Gambit said dryly.
"Ignore the Swamp Rat. What's he doing here?" Rogue asked with a glare at the blond, brutish man.
"I was kidnapped, girl," the man said with a sneer.
"You know him?" Kurt asked.
"He works for Magneto. Calls himself Sabretooth," Logan said, glaring as Sabretooth grinned maliciously at him.
"What's the matter, Logan? Still sore about the Statue of Liberty?" Sabretooth mocked.
"Regardless of what happened, he's a prisoner here. Which means he goes with us," Carter said in a tone that left no room for argument.
"Fine. But I'm keeping an eye on him," Logan grunted.
"Then let's get out of here while we still have the chance," Clark said as he and the others walked in, Clark pausing as he spotted the dark haired woman. "Andrea."
"Clark. I should have known you'd plan a prison break at some point," Andrea Rojas smiled at Clark.
Clark merely nodded before he spotted Tess.
"Tess, I'm sorry that it took so long. I would have come sooner if I'd known," Clark apologized to her and Tess smiled weakly.
"You came, that's what matters. Now can we get the Hell out of here?" Tess requested.
"Took the words right out of my mouth," Snart said and Barry noticed him for the first time.
"Snart?" Barry asked surprised.
"Hello, Flash. Must feel weird, getting people out of prison instead of putting them in one," Snart sassed Barry.
"That's one way to put it. Let's get out of here," Barry said, never wanting to see this place again.
Not long after, Ross arrived in time to see the Black Bird and Quinjet take off into the air, seething as he realized it was too late to do anything to stop them.
"Run all you want. Soon enough, you'll all be in cages again. Your days are number," Ross spat in rage, watching as the two vehicles vanished from view.
Well, that happened.
Yes, Bobbi is working with Kane/Prometheus. Why she is doing this will be revealed next chapter, so stay tuned.
Hope the reveal of Sabretooth and Andrea being the other prisoners on The Raft was enjoyed.
