Watchtower

Late afternoon

"And I thought the Fortress was your only hideaway," Kara muttered, looking around in awe as Clark led her inside.

"It's called Watchtower," Clark said as he walked over to a computer, beginning to type. "It's more of a command post. Chloe and I use it in order to keep watch over the city."

"A lot's changed since the last time I saw you, Kal-El," Kara said after a moment, eying Clark thoughtfully. "Maybe Jor-El underestimated you."

Clark didn't respond, focused on what he was doing.

"This is how we access the news feeds," Clark told her.

"We should cast a pretty wide net, the host is probably a leader with influence," Kara pointed out.

As images of leaders began popping up, Clark frowned as he saw one of Godfrey.

"This Godfrey guy, he's everywhere. He seems to have a personal vendetta against heroes," Clark noted as Lois burst into the room.

"Yeah, you could say that. Hey, Kara, good to see you, we'll catch up later," Lois said as the cousins turned to her. "Why haven't you been answering your phone?"

"I turned it off, we've been busy. What is it, Lois?" Clark asked.

"I just had a nice chat with Godfrey. He says he has evidence of The Blur's identity," Lois said, to Clark's alarm.

"The Blur?" Kara asked confused.

"A sort of alias I've been going under. Godfrey knows who I am," Clark said, turning back to face the screen as a clip of Godfrey played.

"Any citizen who's been a victim of the vigilante menace, you're not alone. They pretend to be your saving grace, then they turn on you and violate your trust," Godfrey was saying.

Clark frowned, hearing something. Using his super hearing, he realized what. There was someone else speaking through Godfrey.

"Do you hear that?" Clark asked Kara.

Looking at him in confusion, Kara then used her own super hearing and discovered the same thing he did: another voice speaking with Godfrey.

"That's it," Kara said.

"The darkness is in Godfrey," Clark agreed.

"So wait, the whole darkness and huge threat Jor-El warned you about, it was Godfrey the whole time?" Lois asked in disbelief.

"Not Godfrey, but something controlling or influencing him," Clark clarified.

"He's been pretty public, so it can't be hard to find him," Kara said as she walked up to the computer, pulling up security feeds. "Looks like he was down town not long ago."

"Then let's go. We don't have a moment to waste," Clark said firmly.

Metropolis

Same time

At the Oscorp building, one of the executives was about to leave when suddenly, a blast of webbing shot out, sticking his hand to the door. Startled, the executive turned his head, seeing Spider-Man standing a few feet away.

"Spider-Man? What-what are you doing here?" The executive said fearfully.

"You were robbed earlier by a man in a green goblin mask. What did he take?" Peter demanded.

"I-I don't know. Please don't hurt me," the executive whimpered pathetically.

"Then tell me what I want to know. What did this guy steal?" Peter asked.

"A prototype of a new micro-processor we've been working on. It's a sort of AI, able to predict any oncoming problems for planes, cars, trains-"

"And gliders," Peter noted, remembering the glider that the Goblin had used.

"Yes, even a glider like the one that monster used," the executive confirmed.

"Why keep it quiet?" Peter asked.

"Norman Osborn's orders. He doesn't want our competitors getting wind of what we're working on," The executive explained.

It made sense…and yet, there was a feeling in the pit of Peter's stomach, like there was more to Norman's refusal to disclose what had been stolen than meets the eye.

Elsewhere, Sam Lane was in a hotel room, having checked in the night before he was due to have an important meeting about The Accords the next day. He was about to turn in for the night when he heard a noise. At first, he didn't know what it was.

Then, in a flash, metal cords around the room rose up, wrapping themselves around his wrists and ankles before lifting him into the air. Lane struggled but it was useless to resist. Then the windows to his room shattered before Magneto, dressed in his armor, floated into the room.

"Good evening, General," Magneto said polietly and Lane paled.

"Erik Lehnsherr," Lane said and Magneto smirked.

"I prefer Magneto. But I'd much rather talk about you. A champion of the Sokovia Accords, which persecute and dehumanize my kind by making them subjected to fascist and barbaric laws," Magneto said, his voice growing colder and angrier as he spoke.

"The Accords aren't perfect, but it's because of people like you that they're necessary. No one wants someone with powers like yours running around unchecked, hurting people," Lane argued and Magneto smiled at him mockingly.

"I've been at the mercy of men like you, blaming me for all your atrocities. Never again," Magneto said, a look of rage crossing his face. "What I do today, I do for all Mutants."

Magneto raised his hand and a gun flew into the air. Sam Lane was sure he was going to die in that moments. Then, a gust of wind passed and Magneto stared, bewildered as Lane seemed to vanish before his eyes.

"Charles," Magneto growled in realization.

A few buildings away, Lane blinded as he appeared on a rooftop, The Flash standing across from him.

"Hey. Uh, I'll be right back," Barry said awkwardly before speeding away.

Magneto was still trying to figure out how Charles was responsible for this when Barry sped in and, before Magneto could blink, removed his helmet and sped away.

"You're good to go, Professor."

Upon receiving Barry's communication, on the roof of the building, Charles immediately used his powers to enter Magneto's mind.

In the room, Magneto clutched his head, feeling Charles's mind touch his.

In the mindscape, Charles appeared standing before his old friend.

"You cannot stop me, Charles," Magneto snarled.

"Is it you I'm trying to stop, or someone else?" Charles asked patiently, using his powers to scan Magneto's mind.

"I told you there would be a war, Charles. You cannot stop it now!" Magneto roared and Charles stared in shock as the Omega symbol flashed across Magneto's forehead.

Charles came back to his body with a startled gasp, trying to process what he had just seen.

"Professor? Are you alright?" Kitty asked concerned from where she, the other X-Men, Chloe, Fury and Matt watched him concerned.

"No, I am not alright, Kitty. You were right, Chloe. Something is influencing Magneto's actions. It was able to force me from his mind," Charles said, shaken by this. "It is not Magneto we face truly. It is something far worse."

There was a loud crash as the building rocked before they saw Magneto dashing across the sky, heading away from the building.

At Club Desaad, Oliver, Sara, Natasha and Steve entered stealthily through a back entrance, none of them in uniform as to not to draw attention. All of them were subtly armed with guns and knives, should the occasion call for it.

"Sam, Wanda, Clint, can you hear me?" Steve asked as he radioed in.

"Loud and clear, Cap," Sam confirmed.

"Stay back until one of us radios in. The rest of us, split up, see if you find anything," Oliver ordered and the others silently nodded.

"Good luck. And be careful," Natasha said before they all went their separate ways.

On a higher level, Clark and Kara entered the club. Kara looked around at everything oddly.

"What is this place?"

"It's kind of hard to explain and we don't have time for it. We need to split up. We'll cover more ground. And try to blend in," Clark told her before he walked off without another word to Kara, who looked after him in annoyance.

Oliver was still walking around, looking for anything that could be Prometheus' trap when a voice spoke up behind him.

"Oliver Queen?"

Oliver turned around, seeing a dark haired man wearing a suit.

"Do I know you?" Oliver asked, an unsettled feeling coming over him as the man shook his head.

"No, I'm Adrian Chase. But you knew my father: Justin Claybourne," Adrian said as a smirk crossed his face.

Elsewhere in the club, Sara was walking when she sensed something behind her. She ducked to one side, barely avoiding a shuriken before she brought her hands up, stopping a sword by clapping her hands down on either side. She stood face to face with Prometheus, who stared at her silently.

"Hello, Sara," Prometheus said before twisting the sword.

This freed it, forcing Sara to let go and Prometheus tried to strike her. Sara dodged before performing a back slip, doing a hand stand and cartwheel before landing on her feet.

"Guys, I have eyes on Prometheus," Sara said over the Comms only to hear static on the other end.

"I'm afraid your friends won't be coming to the rescue," Prometheus mocked before rushing her.

In a backroom, Clark looked for Godfrey. Seeing a figure walk into the room, Clark quickly realized it was Godfrey.

"Godfrey," Clark greeted as Godfrey smirked.

"Clark Kent. Or would you prefer The Blur?" Godfrey asked and Clark almost swore. "I've been waiting for one of you to come to me. But imagine my luck, when both my targets have come to lose their souls."

"Both your targets? You mean Kara? You were after her too?" Clark asked and Godfrey laughed.

"Your cousin is of no consequence, Kal-El. My target is someone I've been working on for months. According to prophecy, you and he will be pivotal in my defeat. But prophecies…can be wrong," Godfrey said with a wicked smirk.

"Who are you? Really?" Clark demanded and Godfrey laughed; a chilling sound.

"I've been known by many names throughout the eons, Satan, Hades, the Dark One. But the one I prefer…is Darkseid."

"You're Prometheus," Oliver said and Adrian laughed.

"Does it matter? Prometheus, Kovar, Merlyn, Deathstroke, you keep fighting these tyrants and murders, believing you're making a difference when all you really do is get people killed, usually the ones closest to you. You know what I think? I think you're one loss away from being completely destroyed. I wonder who that would be though. Sara? Maybe Thea. Maybe someone else," Adrian mocked.

"You don't know anything about me," Oliver said, itching to go for his gun.

"I know everything about you, Oliver. You wear your guilt like a second skin. Your father, Slade, Bobbi, Tommy, and so much more. You keep trying to atone for your sins, telling yourself you're honoring their sacrifices. But you're afraid that you're merely leading your team to their deaths; that they will die along with you in a pointless crusade. That your loved ones will suffer because of you. And you're right!"

Oliver watched in disbelief as a black mist erupted from Adrian and rushed towards him, slamming him against a wall. Oliver gasped, finding it difficult to breath, move or even think.

Then, Steve was there, rushing over and seeming to grab onto the darkness, yanking it away from Oliver. Oliver fell to the floor, gasping for breath as the darkness tried to go into Steve. But, to the surprise of Steve and Oliver, a light emitted from Steve that burned out the darkness. When it faded, Adrian was gone.

"Wh-what was that?" Oliver asked breathlessly.

"I don't know," Steve said honestly as he offered Oliver a hand up. "Are you alright?"

"No," Oliver admitted as Steve helped him to his feet.

Sara used a knife to deflect a shuriken Prometheus threw at her before rushing him, the two trading a few punches. Sara then tried to strike him with her knife but, to her disbelief, he did exactly as she had done earlier: performed a backflip, then a hand stand, then a cartwheel in order to land on his feet. Prometheus took advantage of her surprise, grabbing her arm and throwing her headfirst into a wall.

Sara went down to the floor, momentarily dazed as Prometheus prepared a killing strike. But, before he could swing his sword, he was hit from behind and growled in pain, dropping down to his knees. Behind him stood Natasha, holding out her wrist, having fired her Widow's Bite.

But Prometheus quickly recovered, tossing something to the ground. It looked like a grenade. Sara and Natasha quickly ducked it the side as it went off, but instead of exploding, it unleashed a large burst of smoke. When it faded, Prometheus was gone.

"You okay?" Natasha asked as she approached the blond.

"Been better," Sara admitted as she got to her feet.

"I went looking for you and Oliver as soon as I realized the Comms were down. And if I know Steve, he's done the same thing," Natasha said.

"Are you sure you can win against me?" Darkseid egged him on as he approached Clark slowly. "You know what I am. You know the doubt in your heart. You so called heroes are false gods, all of you. And when people stop believing in you, you'll shatter like glass. All of you."

"You don't know me," Clark said firmly and Darkseid laughed cruelly.

"But I do. I know you're afraid. Afraid you'll never be the hero you want to be. I sense such turmoil in you. We'll go fair together," Darkseid said gleefully.

The darkness erupted from Godfrey, moving to surround Clark. But before it could reach him, Kara jumped in front of Clark, blocking the darkness with her bracelet. There was a bright flash of light and then the darkness was gone as Godfrey was thrown on his back, unconscious.

"Are you alright?" Kara asked as she turned to face Clark.

"It's like it could see inside me," Clark said, shaken by what had just happened.

"That's going around, son," Clark and Kara looked up as Oliver and Steve entered the room.

"Oliver?"

"Clark?"

Upon seeing each other, the words burst out of Clark and Oliver, the two staring at each other in disbelief.

"You two know each other?" Steve asked as he glanced at Oliver, who nodded.

"We met four years ago. What are you doing here, Oliver?" Clark asked.

"Long story. You?" Oliver asked.

"Long story," Clark echoed.

"Does it have to do with a man who can seem to see through you and unleash mists of black that seemed to have a mind of its own? If so, then I think we're part of the same story," Oliver said as Clark stared at Oliver, a realization washing over him.

The other person that Darkseid had talked about, the one that according to prophecy; was going to help Clark defeat him. It was Oliver.

"Ollie," Sara exclaimed as she and Natasha entered the room. "Are you alright?"

"Not particularly. I had a run in with Prometheus, whose real name is Adrian Chase," Oliver told her.

"Was he wearing his suit?" Sara asked and Oliver looked at her confused. "Just answer the question."

"No."

"Then he can't be Prometheus. Sara was fighting him just a second ago, full uniform. I got there just in time to stop him from taking her head off," Natasha explained, stunning Oliver.

If Adrian wasn't Prometheus, then who was?

A short chapter, I know, but hope you all enjoyed it.

Yes, Prometheus is not Chase in this universe. The show tried really, really hard to sell him as this personal villain to Oliver, but, in spite of Josh being amazing in the role, it fell very flat because we had never even heard of Claybourne before season five, so any connection was weak, at best. Who is behind the mask will be revealed soon.
