It was a beautiful, sunny free day, the kind of morning that felt like it held infinite possibilities. Laura strolled through the campus grounds with a light heart, the warm breeze brushing against her cheeks as she took in the peaceful atmosphere. She'd been intending to head toward the library, but her plans came to a halt when her eyes fell on someone standing by the garden.
It was Fie.
Laura paused mid-step, her breath catching slightly. Fie was dressed in an outfit Laura hadn't seen before—a sleeveless white dress shirt tucked neatly into black pants that stopped just above her knees, paired with black suspenders and a sharp, stylish black necktie. The outfit suited her perfectly, the clean lines complementing her small frame and lithe build. There was something effortlessly cool about Fie, but seeing her like this made Laura's heart flutter unexpectedly.
She looks magnificent, Laura thought to herself.
Fie, as usual, didn't seem to pay much attention to the effect she was having on anyone around her. She leaned casually against the edge of the garden railing, her relaxed demeanor on full display as she gazed off into the distance, seemingly lost in thought. The sunlight glinted off her silver hair, adding an ethereal quality to her already striking presence.
Laura, composed as she usually was, found herself hesitating. Something about this moment—seeing Fie dressed so differently—caught her off guard in a way she wasn't quite ready for. But after a second, she gathered herself and approached, her footsteps light and steady.
"Fie," Laura greeted, her tone gentle. Fie turned her head, her green eyes landing on Laura as she gave a small nod of acknowledgment.
"Hey, Laura," Fie replied, as nonchalant as ever.
Laura couldn't help but let her gaze linger a moment longer, taking in the way the outfit seemed to highlight Fie's unique charm. "That's a new outfit, isn't it?" she asked, keeping her tone casual. "It looks wonderful on you."
Fie blinked once, then turned her gaze off to the side. "Meh, it's just clothes," she muttered. "I saw it in town a few days ago and thought it looked good."
Laura smiled at the response. Typical Fie—downplaying herself at every opportunity. But Laura could tell the outfit wasn't something Fie picked just on a whim. It suited her far too well, and there was a quiet confidence in how she wore it, even if she wasn't willing to admit it.
"Well, you have a great eye," Laura said, letting her admiration show clearly in her voice. "It really does suit you, Fie."
Fie glanced back at her then, and Laura caught the faintest upward tug of her lips, a smile so subtle it might have gone unnoticed by anyone else. "Thanks. That's high praise coming from someone as fashionable as you."
Fie shifted closer ever so slightly, their shoulders nearly brushing. The small movement wasn't lost on Laura, and she found her heart fluttering again—an unexpected but not unwelcome sensation.
The two of them lingered there a little longer, just enjoying the calm of the afternoon together. Eventually, Fie stretched her arms above her head and glanced sideways at Laura.
"Since you're here, wanna get something to eat?" Fie asked, her tone casual but inviting.
Laura turned her head toward her, her smile brightening. "I'd be happy to."
As they walked off together, Laura found herself stealing one last glance at Fie in her new outfit. Magnificent, Laura thought again, smiling to herself as she walked alongside Fie.
