Chapter 29: Big Fib
/
Michael caught on once Raku was in his uniform and at a brand-new desk with all of the other lucky genius students. A class that was for them was for everyone, minus a secondary study with Atticus – John protested the contents of their agreement, and so, a new teacher was called up.
"It is simply a trial of academia, Constantine. There us no way in the wide sphere of this realm that I'd ever subject –
"You're always going to BE a liar, Gray. I never believed it fir a second when y –
"JOHNATHAN." The headmaster threw a glance to John as he left the two to debate outside of the classroom. "Equal time and we shall keep this agreement neutral to both parties. Is this all as you'd preferred, Constantine? That charge you have us gifted. From what his recorded time here is evaluated as, we have little to forward with. If he attends the classes listed, then at least we might be able to help…where you are lomging to be at his aid. You are as well.one if our strongest alumni despite never becoming a graduate until much later."
John had said he was a dropout. Well, he'd not exactly filled in the rest of his story.
"I came back after I was ckean and got the grade made. I want the sane for him, because if I do it all alone, he has little to go on as a hunter of the supernatural. In his bones is the wielding of a saint. An archivist with time magic. I don't….he wants to follow, yet can he is my only concern. His strength isn't in being a warrior."
"In his time, we'll see wgere adjustments sh –
"NOT a word out of you, bloke." John snorted to Atticus. "You open a book, teach history. Teach potions. Hell, teach him ti ride a broom bloody stick fir all I give a damn. But….not one sense of you may ever TRY to call him a teacher's favorite. You understand or forget what I told you. The myth. His past. Uf you isolate him like before, it begins all over again. He let's go –
"Others will suffer, as any psychological episode to its extreme of a demi god."
"You see? So, favorites is out. All of it. If he needs help, assist if he's being bullied. I know by then he will. It's, only a matter of time."
"He's a soft artist." Sighed Atticus. "John, I could –
"With me, I'd like to know if your demon face has ever met my monsters…if not?" John had left the room then, leaving Atticus to care less as he shuffled off to find the janitor in one of the hall restrooms.
"It may backfire, sire."
The red haired maintenance man turned round with a sideways snort. "Huh, you are giving up? Even that which you've provided via our contract?"
"NO. John, is cautious. You'd best to pull away his attention, and quickly."
"As you see it, I think you did forget something about that story u had you ready after coming here." Snapping his fingers, the visions of the academy where Raku had lost his friends, his first his age. His scare so great that he'd never stayed…Lilu had ruined…
"You're…recreating that tragedy??"
Smiling, Lothos put back on his human grin and nodded with it. "Aye, and I know every single figure will be a part of it. Once Raku is called something he recalls clearly, who can he run to? This is a modern school despite the sprites and hob goblins, Gray. Johnathan will see with his own eyes why Raku was forced to leave his own youth too quickly behind. Then I'll have his attention, just as she had it."
They man mopped up as Atticus left with his hands sweating more than before. "He…is quite the brute. I…will stay, then." Breathed the evil warlock.
"I will stay and watch over the boy, to preserve what was my youth. Inside these walls."
/
John tapped a finger to the podium desk as the children sat and waited on their lecture to start.
"Ah…em, open your books to page thirty – nine B. Right." John has to let Raku clings less, yet a part of his mind said to watch the boy. It was only the power sources effects, he told himself. The markers bled, chalk over as the children all became engrossed in his lesson fairly quickly off. He even had younger women in the class trying to be too kind. Dismissing them, he saw Raku leave with Amber, while Michael watched and sickly got through the exit to find a way to spoil things.
Raku had two bullied. John had only one. And the damned corpse that was Atticus Gray?
/
John took off after lunch to find Zee, yet she was in the lounge getting some ice for her neck.
The one place he' dreaded, she told him where to find Chas.
"Lockers. He's tidying up in there before the boys go out to practice."
John flew out to find Chas, seeing the man face to face with a wall of dirty straps while wearing a mask. "It's a pig sty, did I ever agree to that??"
"You did mate, and I have to thank you for not throwing in the towel so soon "
Why would I give up faster than you can, Johnny? I' lost in the event you have to end. Or someone could. Any luck?"
"Power sources. Just took myself to the archives and Ignito fleshed out a perfect explanation to it all. There is a theory; chaos must exist ti build order, right? In a way, creation happens from chaos is what was once believed by those that rarely dealt outside if their counties and boarders. Now." John paced on the topic and went on. This was a locker room and no one was coming for the next twenty five minutes. "Raku is or was never the first power source. They say it was Horus, but I think that like a supernova or a big bang, it took firm before them. Maybe even –
"In another universe?"
"Why the gods exist is to the earth and to the stars. If we seek this point of the In-between, we have demi gods. Raku however, has traits of an immortal and a Cosmic entity kf space and time. Azag was the incarnated later soul of a god of creation known as Tammuz. In the myth he hauls from, Ishtar or Inanna was in love with him and he died. God knows how it was supposed to be, and this story tells of a similar outcome as Persephone and Hades. Only, Erishkigal was the one to house the soul of Ishtar's beloved as she claimed. I think that a dark part of the immortal soul that later was Azag's was once tainted and as a result it continued."
"You mean through each incarnated soul. Is Raku one of them?"
"It was possiblywhy he keeps trying to become the God's relic like Azag had. The problem was that he tore the sadness and pain from workds he checked over. Keeping the records of those still alive. It was how…"
"He found the boy's mother."
"A story teller magi's descendent. She didn't even know why, and he was clearly brought there by her will. I think, even as a power source that never –
"You think that he was birthed by a god and a power source??"
"And the same for Roku and Lorelai. Richard Ainsley was one, and so were his parents, thus…"
"He would have been a literal god."
"Power sources are if I put it plainly, the cosmic creations of the gods. Saints, seers and the ones meant to become keepers of high order if they never turn into demons."
"Oh, that…"
It made them sick to hear it, yet it could be why Raku was so nervous about staying grounded. He wanted to find that light and seek it out, bleed it through and find…
"Raku has to be kept away from this. Lothos has to know and that is why he's pr-
John stopped, his eyes saw a bit of a vision as Raku's young face was streaked in tears.
~ Why….why did you do this?? They weren't my –
"I…John?" Chas had his shoulder at a squeeze while John had no recollection as to why he'd seen something so, ancient.
"Lothos is still watching, mate. Stay calm and we will find a way to rip him out of this picture. I won't let him suck me dry. You both, would hate me for quitting early."
"I woukd, but the boy knows you're trying at least."
"Azag tried, Ardius, Abi and even A. They all tried." Sighed John. "Chas? Keep a chin up, and don't let him see you wink back my way, alright? I'm heading out to get a smoke break in before next period."
"I'll save you some snack I can sbag in my free time. Try not to upset the headmaster. You know it wouldn't be the first time. That is him, right? The son?"
"Hard to tell," John shrugged. "Been too long since I'd decided to throw away my diploma."
/
Raku sat at the lunch table and looked off into the sea of students for Amber. , she was the one standing up to grab their trays. He peeked over as she did her choosing while another white uniformed boy made his way to Raku's same table. No lunch, just to talk. Raku's heart held itself at the ready.
Ignito had been told to stay away while he was in school. Unless it was necessary to stop Lothos, then that was more important.
Michael wasn't interested in a long chat as Raku saw how his body bristles with unease to it. How he walked even brought back a sour - tongued memory of a boy now less a cheater in life's own eye.
"You'll be having a lot to decide. My father has decided to give you the full course. Not a punishment. So, you should be grateful. Then…?"
"Ah, I don't…really understand-
"WHY aren't you?"
Raku stopped. Amber was picking out one last side dish and then she'd shimmy to the cutlery.
"I…I'm not trying to stand out. It would be rude."
"Why? I do it all the time. They shower me with special favors. Oh, but…your father, was it..."
The blonde tapped his chin as Raku's face swapped to think back to the day that Marcus had come to the study just to harass the person the djinn son was. He wasn't anymore. He was so close-
"I know you're greater than this. You need to prove it, and luckily…I know a way to cement that fact to your mentor-
"No!"
Ralu stood up as the clatter of tables before abd behind them were unraveled.
"No, I…I don't want to be anyone above any of these students. We want a purpose, and I thank you and your father –
"STOP…." Michael seethed as he stood was a scowl on his face, hidden below the downturn chin. "Stop being so…so…you say sorry like that to everyone?? You're a little-
He bit his tongue as Raku's eyes crackled. "God…" Whispered Michael as he leaned into his palm, mouth barely closing while shaking his skull. "Examine what you are. Don't harm a fly in our school, if you…really are." The blonde got up, the image of those eyes turned his resolve to putty.
Amber hummed over to the table as Michael didn't bother butting heads. She was holding her plates up over the crowds as she spun and let them fall right onto the table for two. "Hey! They had some Italian but….it wasn't gluten free. Ah…."
She checked over the boy's shoulder as Raku shrugged off his miserable face with a false grin. "No, no! It's all fine…I, don't eat meat, Amber. Wheat is…tolerated." He took the food and lied, knowing the wheat here was made for pain and he only could feed from it. Ignito was growing somewhere as Raku dragged the fork to his lips and took in the poison. Not long after, he was in the restroom and there, well…
He wanted to say it was wrong to not run.
"Did he tell you yet?"
The red headed janitor could have attacked wkth words, one bite. John wasn't here. Raku blinked as he tried to call Ignito, though flinched.
Blocked. Blocked out??
"Wait, don't let me stop you. She didn't know either? Goes to show that human life is harder for a dem –
"I…AM. Am , human, Lothos….why won't you let me be??" Raku took to the knob.
Locked.
"I've given thought to, us. Your powers and my own came to become…linked. Because of this, I wonder…" The demon leaned onto the wall and hummed to itself. "How long will it last? A friend that seems to vanosh when you need them more than your mentor? And what about that character, Michael? His father gave you a way into this school. As a perfect –
"I'm not –
"He called you a god."
Raku swallowed. The fear in his face was well polished as Lothos felt as before. "You light up my memory kf that time. You were a good little godling, so? Why would you chase a false passion? A passion, build upon human need."
"Not…your problem." Raku breathed. "No, it's my future, and you're not –
"If you lost control, how many? How many would stop calling you an untouchable?"
Raku's eyes cracked open to reveal the past he'd so hoped to suppress.
"You're seeing it? Well, then my work was worth keeping an eye….on your very lack of self."
Raku pulled back as his back hit the door. The knob finally jiggled as the child flew down the hall, not seeing faces yet sensing the past life Lothos was trying to bring back.
He…was fine…fine…
Amber, Amber was….was…
"Raku??" Zee came over as the face he saw was of Thoth, his dear…
"I'm s…s…sorry!" Raku fled by her, not looking as he pulled open door after door, not realizing that his eyes were glowing a wholly, brilliant amber.
