Chapter 32: Parents+Crush=Embarrassment

Rainbow Dash was currently dribbling a soccer ball in her backyard.

"And Rainbow Dash takes the ball, and she goes down the field. She shoots."

She then kicked it into a goal.

"And she scores!" she cheered.

Suddenly, she heard a voice.

"Nice score, Rainbow."

She turned around, and saw Soarin standing behind her fence. She blushed.

"Oh, thanks Soarin'. What are you doing here?"

"I was just out for a jog and saw you practicing."

"Oh, okay. You looking forward to the big game coming up?"

"You bet. We're definitely going to beat Crystal Prep this time."

The two were quiet for a moment, until Soarin' spoke up.

"You know Rainbow, I was wondering..."

"Yeah?"

"If you're not busy..."

The moment was then interrupted by the sound of Windy Whistles calling.

"Rainbow, have you finished doing your laundry yet?" Rainbow Dash blushed.

"Uh, sorry Soarin', but I gotta go."

"It's okay. We can talk at school. See you."

And with that, he jogged off.

"Rainbow." Windy called again.

"I'm coming, Mom." Rainbow sighed, and went inside.

The next day at school, Rainbow vented to her friends.

"I'm pretty sure Soarin' was this close to asking me out, but then my mom had to ruin the moment." she said.

"That's a real bummer." Fluttershy replied.

"Sorry that happened, Rainbow Dash." Rarity replied.

"(Sighs), sometimes I wish my parents were different."

"Well you know what they say Rainbow." Applejack started.

"You can pick your nose, but you can't pick your family."

Pinkie burst out laughing.

"I love that saying."

"Hey, Rainbow."

The girls turned around, and saw Soarin' walking towards them. "Oh my gosh." Rainbow whispered. She quickly got up from her spot, and went over to him.

Hi, Soarin'. What's up?"

"I just wanted to ask you if you'd want to go to the arcade and then the pizza parlor."

"You mean like a date?"

"Oh, it doesn't have to be."

"No, that sounds like fun."

"Great, Friday night?"

"Sounds good. I'll meet you there."

"6:00?"

"6:00."

And then they went their separate ways. The rest of the girls eagerly waited to hear what happened.

"Well what happened?" asked Rarity.

"Soarin' asked me to go to the arcade and pizza parlor with him on Friday."

They all squealed.

"That's definitely a date." Twilight told.

"Congratulations." Pinkie replied.

"Thanks. This is going to be great." Rainbow said.

On Friday afternoon, Rainbow and her friends gathered at her house to help her get ready.

"I've always wanted to give you a makeover Rainbow Dash." Rarity said.

"This isn't a makeover. You're just helping me get ready." Rainbow Dash clarified.

"Well since this is an informal date, you don't have to be too fancy." mentioned Twilight.

After a little bit, Rainbow was ready. She was wearing a nice red shirt, some nice blue jeans with rainbow colored cuffs at the bottom, and her nice sneakers. And Rarity had done Rainbow's hair in a nice yet simple ponytail.

"Well how do I look?" Rainbow asked.

All the girls agreed that she looked great.

"Good luck tonight." said Fluttershy.

"I'll call you girls tomorrow."

"We don't want you skipping out on any details." Pinkie informed.

"We wanna hear all about it." Applejack added.

"And remember, don't tell my parents I'm going out with Soarin'."

"Don't worry, we'll keep your secret." assured Twilight.

With that, they all left.

Around 5:30, Rainbow Dash got ready to leave.

"Mom, Dad, I'm going out for a while." she told them.

"Where are you going, Rainbow?" asked Windy.

"Oh, just to hang out with the girls."

"Okay, but we back at a decent hour." Bow reminded.

"I will."

And with that, Rainbow Dash left the house, jumped on her motor bike and drove to the arcade.

When she got there, she saw Soarin' waiting for her outside. She parked her bike, and walked up to him.

"Hey, Soarin." she greeted.

"Hey Rainbow, nice ride."

"Thanks."

"So you ready to place some games?"

"You bet."

The two went inside, and started their date. They played air hockey, Dance Dance Revolution, shot basketballs, and played first person shooter games. They even got to collect some prizes.

"See anything you like, Rainbow?" Soarin' asked.

Rainbow Dash looked around, and spotted something.

"I like those glow in the dark rubber balls."

"I'll take those." Soarin told the worker.

At first Rainbow was surprised, but then he gave them to her.

"Hey thanks."

"You're welcome. Ready for pizza?"

"You bet."

And they left the arcade, and went to the pizza parlor. They ordered a large pepperoni pizza and two colas. They chatted about school, sports, their friends, and the upcoming game.

When they finished eating, they had just enough room to get some ice cream for dessert. After getting a couples of dishes of ice cream they decided to take a little walk in the nearby park.

"Nice night huh?" asked Rainbow Dash.

"Yeah, and it feels nice too."

After their walk and ice cream they decided to end their date.

"I had a nice time, Rainbow." Soarin' told her.

"So did I." Rainbow replied.

The two stood there awkwardly, until Soarin' stepped towards her.

"Oh my gosh is he gonna kiss me?" Rainbow thought.

But he actually just gave her a hug. At first she was surprised, but then returned the hug.

"We should do this again sometime."

"Yeah, we should."

Then they parted ways.

The next day Rainbow Dash met with her friends at the park.

"So what happened?" Rarity wanted to know.

"Well we played games at the arcade. And when we were claiming some prizes he got some glow in the dark balls."

"He won a prize for you?" asked Twilight.

"That's so romantic." gushed Pinkie.

"And then we got pizza, had ice cream for dessert, then had a walk in the park."

"And how did it end?" Applejack questioned.

"Well..." Rainbow started.

The girls leaned in closer.

"We hugged, and he said we should go on another date."

The girls smiled.

"Rainbow this is great." said Fluttershy.

"That shows he's interested." Twilight added.

"And who knows maybe next time he'll actually kiss you." thought Pinkie.

Rainbow Dash blushed.

"Maybe." she whispered.

When Monday came Rainbow had soccer practice. She practiced hard, and worked well with her teammates. Then the coach blew the whistle, and the team gathered around him.

"All right people, you've been doing great with practice. And even if we don't win we'll be having a little party to celebrate."

Everyone chatted happily at hearing that.

"And we can thank Rainbow Dash's parents for volunteering to host it."

When Rainbow Dash heard that her face fell. Her parents were gonna host the after party?

As soon as practice was over, Rainbow hurried home. "Mom, Dad." she said as she came through the door.

"Hi, honey how was soccer practice?" asked Windy.

"It was fine. But the coach said you two were gonna host the after party?"

"Yes we are." Bow confirmed.

"But why and why didn't you tell me?"

"Well when I was at a PTA meeting I learned that the original host got sick and so I volunteered to take over." Windy explained.

"And we wanted to surprise you."

"Well I'm definitely surprised." Rainbow Dash replied in a less than enthusiastic voice.

Rainbow told her friends about the party.

"This is a nightmare." Rainbow complained.

"Maybe it won't be that bad." said Fluttershy.

"Fluttershy don't you remember when they decided to chaperone one of our school picnics?"

The girls remembered that. Her dad tried to show off some break dancing moves but failed miserably, and her mom tried to blend in with some popular girls, but ended up getting made fun of behind her back.

"And this is gonna be even worse because Soarin' will be there."

"How?" asked Pinkie.

"Because if he sees them acting like well them they'll think they're weird and therefore will think I'm weird."

"I'm sure he won't think that." Twilight comforted.

"If only I could just disappear during the party." Rainbow complained, as she buried her face in her hands.

Her friends comforted her.

On the day of the game, the Wondercolts played their hearts out. The school, their families, and the opposing team's families. The ball was passed, blocked, and shot into the goals. And then it was the final minutes of the game.

Rainbow Dash dribbled the ball down the field, and kicked the ball to Soarin'. He got the ball, and hurried to the other team's goal. The opposing team members tried to block him or get the ball, but he was quicker.

And then, with a mighty kick he kicked the ball into the opposing team's goal.

"And the Wondercolts win!" shouted the referee.

The Wondercolts cheered with happiness, and so did the patrons. The Wondercolts high fived and hugged each other. Rainbow was happy along with the rest of the team, but still remembered about the party.

She was suddenly snapped out her thoughts when she felt someone throw their arms around her. She looked and saw it was Soarin'. She blushed, and then returned the hug. Then she glanced over at the stands, and saw her parents.

Then she quickly got out of Soarin's grip, and hurried off.

Afterwards the team met in Rainbow Dash's backyard for the party. There were balloons, music, and food was cooking and being served. Everyone was starting to have a good time, though Rainbow Dash was uneasy.

So she was hiding out in the bathroom. As she heard, the sounds of the party, she wished she could go out and enjoy it, but she didn't want her parents to embarrass her. Just then, there was a knock at the door.

"Anyone in there?"

Rainbow recognized the voice as Soarin's.

She opened the door, and stepped out.

"Oh, hey Soarin'. You can use the bathroom if you need to."

"No, I'm fine. I was actually looking for you."

"Really?"

"Why are you hiding out in the bathroom?"

Rainbow Dash explained how she was worried that her parents would embarrass her, and what he would think. But Soarin' just smiled.

"Rainbow, you think I wouldn't like you just because of your parents?"

Rainbow Dash blushed and looked awkward. Soarin' smiled, and lifted up her chin.

"Hey, I like you for you. And besides I think your parents are kinda cool."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah, besides my parents can be pretty embarrassing sometimes too."

Rainbow chuckled.

"Come on, let's get back to the party."

He gently took her hand, and led her away.

Outside, Rainbow managed to relax and enjoyed the party. And to her surprise, her parents weren't as embarrassing as she thought. The guys were actually enjoying her dad's beat boxing and dance moves, and her mom was giving the other girls advice.

And then while Rainbow and Soarin' were eating and talking, Windy and Bow came over.

"Hello, Rainbow glad you're enjoying yourself." Bow told her.

"And who is this nice young man?" Windy wanted to know, referring to Soarin'.

"Mom, Dad this is Soarin'." Rainbow introduced.

"Well it's nice to meet you Soarin'." Bow told him, shaking Soarin's hand.

When the party was over, Rainbow and her parents said goodbye to the coach and the rest of the team.

"So Rainbow where were you for the first half of the party?" Bow asked.

Rainbow Dash looked sheepish, then explained that she was worried that they would embarrass her in front of the team and Soarin'. Her parents looked surprised. "We embarrass you?" Windy wanted to know.

"Sometimes, but I'm really sorry and I think you're the best parents ever."

She then hugged them tight.

"We're sorry if we embarrass you sometimes, Rainbow. But we only act like that because we love you and want to be involved in your life." Bow explained.

"Your father's right, honey."

"I know that now, and thanks for being there."

And they all shared a group hug.

"Oh and about Soarin', you should invite him over to dinner sometimes." Windy suggested.

Rainbow blushed in embarrassment.
