Placing the futon out in the spare room, Shirou sat it up as well as he could as Elena watched from the doorway.
In spite of her hesitance and Rin's very loud protests, Elena had accepted the offer after a while. Citing that Shirou had a point. She couldn't afford to run into any of the Four Kings or her brother, especially now that she had revealed all this information about them.
"There all set up. I made it as comfortable as I could" Shirou said.
Elena smiled at him "thank you Shirou. It's much appreciated."
"Hey after everything you've done for us it's a small gesture. You really put your neck out telling us all this."
Elena walked over to Shirou, taking in a deep breath and said.
"Look Shirou…I'm sorry…I didn't mean to drag you into all of this. I know I have already asked too much of you in all this but….my father wants to meet with you."
"Oh…" was all Shirou could mutter completely off guard.
"I know I'm sorry. It's just…when I told him about you he mentioned that your last name seemed similar to a man he once met before. A man by the name of Kiritsugu Emiya."
Shirou looked down on the ground "Kitisugu was my dad…"
Elena looked away, almost as if she was ashamed of telling him this.
"He saved my life and adopted me. He was a noble and good man" Shirou said.
"Sounds like my dad. At least before…"
"How did he know Kiritsugu?" Shirou asked.
Elena shook her head "no clue. He never elaborated on it. But from what I know he left a lasting impression. Hence why he now wishes to meet with you."
Shirou nodded. His resolve was very clear.
"Fine I'll do it. Set it up."
"Are you sure Shirou? Talking with him could risk your safety if he finds out you are in on the plan. I can't ask that of you."
Shirou stepped forward, placing his hands on Elena's shoulders.
"Perhaps but I have faced worse. Look you told me how much is at stake here. The path your father has gone down, maybe he can still be shown a different way. Maybe we can reach him."
Elena looked away from him "Shirou I've tried. If he isn't willing to listen to me then there's nothing you can do that will change his mind."
"That doesn't mean we can't try. He's still your father Elena. And if we can reach him, we can turn everything around."
Elena didn't respond, instead she seemed to shiver and she looked like she was about to break down. Shirou could see how desperately she tried to keep up a steely resolve.
But even the strongest break sometimes.
Tears streamed down her face as she lunged her arms around Shirou and cried into his chest, staining his shirt with her tears. Shirou was frozen in place, it took him a whole minute to fully realize what was going on before he ever so slowly wrapped her hands around Elena, allowing her to simply let out all her tears.
In the living room Rin Tohsaka sat with her arms crossed, her fingers tapping angrily on the inside of her arm as she was trying and failing to calm down.
She couldn't believe how gullible Shirou was being. Well she could to a degree knowing what kind of people pleaser he was but this was on a whole another level.
"Shirou you idiot…" Rin mumbled out angrily.
And speak of the devil he just came through the door.
"Elena's settled in. She should be…"
"ARE YOU REALLY THAT MUCH OF AN IDIOT EMIYA!" Rin yelled out.
Shirou took a step back, caught off guard as Rin had stood up and looked at him, face red with anger. Even more so then usual.
"You really aren't thinking this through Emiya. I knew you where dense but this…you just let her be here under your roof without even a second thought."
"Tohsaka what is your issue? She told us everything, opened up to us about her father? Why do you still distrust her?"
Rin threw her hands up in anger "because this could all be part of her plan! You really don't consider that maybe she is just playing you. Just look at her Emiya! She comes here all suddenly, looking almost like a duplicate of Saber and asks you for help specifically. You don't think that's suspicious?"
"She doesn't look like…"
Rin cut him off "oh don't play that game with me Emiya. I know it and you know it! You're still not over her, its been almost a year and you still can't get over the fact that she's gone. And now Miss Manadek shows up here looking just like her it's no wonder you are so eager to help her."
"Stop it Tohsaka…"
"Or what? You refuse to see reason Emiya. So consumed by your feelings for Saber that you don't even acknowledge the possibility she's using you."
"ENOUGH!"
Rin loosened her stance and took a step back, clearly surprised by Shirou's sudden outburst.
"Do you even know what it's like Tohsaka. To love someone so much that the thought of not being with them breaks your heart. That's how I wake up every day, reminded that Saber isn't here. Do you know what that's like? To love but not be able to be with them?"
Shirou stumbled backwards, clutching his left cheek as he stared in shock as Rin stood there, having just backhanded him across his cheek as her eyes began to tear up.
"You can't say that…what would you know about what I have and haven't felt…..about who I lo…."
She didn't finish her sentence and instead she just turned heel and ran out of the living room.
"Tohsaka!" Shirou yelled in vain. He didn't move from his spot as he heard the front door open and close.
Rin ran outside and through the streets, tears running down her face as she sobbed, running as fast as she could away from the Emiya household.
