Title: Supergirl
Summary: When Jerry had to babysit his cousin, things get out of control and he calls Jack for support. Neither seems to be able to reign in the little girl and Kim walks into a scene of pure chaos, assessing the situation and taking charge.
Guys this is a new record. I wrote this today. Like today today. Like 2 hours ago I started and now I'm finished. I'm incredible. Also it's because I just watched 4 episodes of supernanny...
"Yo, Jack, I will never hit on a girl again if you agree to help me. I swear I- no, put that down! I said put that- We do not hit! Get back here, I-"
The line went dead and Jack sighed. It wasn't his idea of an exciting free fall Saturday but Jerry sounded desperate.
Jerry's aunt was in an accident a few weeks ago. They had family in town for a while to help out, but now that she was recovering, everyone else had left. Now it was up to Jerry to take care of his 4 year old cousin during his aunt's weekly doctor's appointments.
Jerry had helped out here and there, driving his mom's casseroles over to his aunt's house, spending time with some other older cousins while their moms watched little Isabella. Never had Jerry had the little demon by himself. She was deceivingly cute, dressed in her little purple corduroy jumper and a sweet pink t-shirt with puff sleeves. Her hair was divided into two puffy pigtails and secured with little yellow scrunchies. She was the most adorable little girl on the planet. Until she didn't get exactly what she wanted, Jerry was finding out.
When Jack arrived at the dojo, it was a mess.
There were color pages scattered around the mats everywhere. Some were crumpled and ripped and there were little pieces scattered everywhere. The extra pile of mats was moved and fallen over. Jerry was wrestling with Isabella, chasing her around a random chair that had fallen over as Isabella screamed and laughed maniacally with nunchucks in her hands.
Jerry was so occupied, he didn't even notice when Jack walked in.
Jerry finally managed to grab the small girl and ripped the weapon out of her hands, tossing it aside somewhere while he tried to keep his hold on the squirming and kicking child.
"Jerry?" Jack greeted, picking up a fallen trophy from off the floor.
Jerry looked up at Jack and audibly sighed in relief. "Jack! Mi amigo, it's so good to see you. It's been-"
Isabella suddenly screamed and began trying to hit Jerry.
"Hey!" Jerry yelled. "Do not hit me!"
Isabella ignored him and kept swinging and Jerry sent Jack a plea.
"You gotta discipline her," Jack supplied, recalling what little he knew about childcare.
"Right," Jerry nodded. "Time out," he muttered to himself. "Pick that chair up will you?"
Jack nodded and picked the chair up.
Jerry sat Isabella down, who immediately shot up and ran off.
"Isabella get back here!" Jerry grunted, chasing her again.
"No!" Isabella screamed. "I don't want to!"
When she took a turn towards the doors, Jerry's eyes widened. "Get her!" He panted at Jack.
Jack blocked her path and somehow, with the two of them, Jerry had managed to grab Isabella again and push her into the chair.
"Isabella you are in time out," he explained, panting.
"No!" Isabella screamed again, trying to kick herself free.
"Yes!" Jerry fought back.
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No! No! I hate timeout! Nooo! I hate you!" Isabella wiggled an arm free and used it to swiftly smack Jerry across the face.
Jerry released her in shock and she quickly skittered away and left Jack to get her.
Handling a little girl was much different than an older person, Jack realized. He could have easily handled Isabella but she was four. He couldn't throw her down or tighten his grip like he could have someone older and bigger. Someone like Kim. Kim. She babysat. She would know what to do.
But then again, Jack was the help. Jerry called Jack for help and calling Kim was accepting defeat.
"Can't we just smack her?" Jerry huffed, almost crying in desperation.
"Jerry!" Jack scolded. "No you can't hit her! She's four, we can take her without resorting to violence!"
"She's resorting to violence!"
"Ahh!" Isabella screamed again and tried to escape Jack's hold.
It was finally starting to feel like fall and Kim had no homework left to do. Her Saturday was completely free and she was hoping to spend that time with her friends. Specifically, with Jack. They had been dating for a few months, but she was really looking forward to autumn dating. There was something special about pumpkins and boyfriends combined.
Unfortunately, Jack wasn't answering his phone. And neither was Jerry. If neither one was answering, there was a chance they were somewhere together. Kim had nothing better to do and found herself making a trip to the dojo.
When she walked in she was immediately met with chaos.
There were papers everywhere, thrown chairs, the equipment looked like it had been ransacked. For a second, Kim was worried they'd been robbed. But then, why was all their stuff still there?
Then Kim heard screaming. High pitched screaming.
"I hate you! No! No! No! No!"
"What the-"
Suddenly a little girl came running out of the locker room hallways with Jack and Jerry chasing after her.
"Isabella you stop right now or you're going in time out!" Jerry commanded.
The little girl, Isabella, did not stop. In fact, she picked up the bo staff at her feet and began to smack it against the lockers, causing a resounding bang to drown out any further threats.
Jack advanced on her and snatched the bo staff away while Jerry picked the girl up by the arm and dragged her to the chair.
Kim gasped as she watched the scene unfold. Jack joined Jerry and pinned the poor girl to the chair while Jerry picked an orange belt out of a pile of haphazardly thrown belts and used it to physically restrain the girl, tying her to the chair.
The girl kept screaming while Jerry screamed his own warnings back and Jack argued with Jerry.
There was too much going on. It was absolute chaos.
Kim had been watching for nearly five minutes and nobody even realized she was there. Finally, when Isabella tried to bite both Jack and Jerry and Kim was worried one of them was going to bite her back, she stepped in.
"What is going on here?" she demanded.
Everyone turned to Kim.
Jack had to admit, seeing Kim was a relief. He had refrained from calling her, but now that she had magically shown up on her own accord, he said a silent prayer of thanks.
"Jerry's watching Isabella but-"
"I want to go home!" Isabella screamed. She started kicking her legs and wiggling to get free.
"But she's being a little brat!" Jerry hissed.
Kim looked back and forth between the boys and Isabella. Sure, Isabella had been screaming and crying and kicking the entire time Kim was there, but Jerry and Jack were physically manhandling her and threatening her. They were no better!
"And I'm guessing you've never watched a kid before?" Kim scoffed, hurrying over to the chair. "You don't tie a kid to the timeout chair!"
Kim shoved Jerry out of the way and quickly untied the belt, freeing the little girl.
She had angry red cheeks and red eyes. Clearly, she had been crying and screaming for a long time. It was mid-afternoon, likely close to nap time. The poor girl looked a mess. Her voice was raspy and she was probably dehydrated by now. Not to mention there was hardly any sort of proper entertainment for a little girl in the dojo.
The girl was crying and screaming at Kim, trying to get away.
"What happened?" Kim asked Jack as Jerry began chasing Isabella around again.
Jack sighed. "What didn't happen? She's been screaming all afternoon, making a mess, hitting. She won't listen to anything."
Kim nodded along, listening to Jack explain what had happened and glancing around at the state of the dojo.
Isabella was still running around and Kim could tell Jerry was fading fast. Standing back up, Kim followed the pair and picked up Isabella, doing her best to hold her squirming body.
Kim set Isabella down in the chair, not letting go while she crouched down and spoke.
"Isabella, you are going to sit here for 4 minutes, okay?"
Jack doubted Isabella heard or understood much over her crying and screaming.
Sure enough, the second Kim let go, Isabella tried to make a mad dash away. Kim quickly picked up the girl again and deposited her in the chair.
It went on for almost 20 minutes before Isabella finally stayed in the chair, although she was still screaming and crying.
Every time she yelled something, Jerry stepped forward to reprimand her but Kim shot him a nasty glare and stopped him.
"She wants you to give her attention. The more you react to her screaming, the more she is going to scream. Let her have her fit."
Jerry seemed hesitant and nearly broke, but Kim grabbed Jerry's arm in a painful hold until he agreed to ignore Isabella.
When the four consecutive minutes were up, Kim commanded Jack and Jerry to stay back and not interfere, their emotions right now were just as high as Isabella's.
Kim picked the girl up and sat down on the ground with Isabella in her lap. Kim's right arm was wound tightly around Isabella's arms while Kim's left arm was around Isabella's legs. It was a motherly, nurturing hold, but still firm and Isabella wasn't getting away anytime soon.
"Shh, it's okay," Kim cooed, rocking Isabella and holding her to her chest.
At first, Isabella struggled, but slowly she relented until she was quietly whimpering in Kim's arms, all the fight gone.
Jack and Jerry just stared, drained and not having the energy to do or be anything but stunned.
After a few minutes, Kim pulled Isabella back and looked into her eyes.
"Isabella, my name is Kim," Kim introduced herself. "Can you look at me while I talk to you?"
Isabella glanced up at Kim.
"I'm Jerry's friend," Kim began.
As soon as Jerry's name slipped out, Isabella looked away.
"Isabella, look at me," Kim said gently. "Look at me, Isabella."
Isabella looked again.
"Good girl. Do you know why you were in timeout?"
Isabella shook her head no.
Jerry scoffed, but luckily Jack held him back and Isabella didn't notice.
"Do you think it is okay to try to hit Jerry?"
Isabella hesitated. "But he was- He didn't let me- he wasn't-" Isabella started to whine.
"Isabella, is it okay to hit people?"
Isabella deflated as she shook her head. "No…"
"That's right. I need you to stop screaming and throwing things, okay? Screaming is very loud and throwing things is how people get hurt. Do you understand me?"
Isabella nodded.
"Can you say sorry to Jerry and Jack? You hurt them and that makes them feel very sad."
Isabella turned to Jack and Jerry and Kim beckoned them forward. Isabella looked back at Kim with a question in her eyes.
"Go on," Kim encouraged.
"I'm sorry," Isabella apologized.
"You're sorry for what?" Kim prompted.
"I'm sorry for hitting and… and yelling… and…"
"And not listening?" Kim asked.
Isabella nodded.
Kim then looked at Jack with a pointed look. Jack nudged Jerry, who sighed and accepted the apology.
"Good," Kim breathed. "Now that that's all taken care of, it is a mess in here. This is what we're going to do. Jerry, you're going to get Isabella some water. We're going to put her down for a nap so everyone can get some rest. When she wakes up, we're going to fix her hair and we are all going to clean the dojo. Okay?"
Isabella nodded, as well as Jerry and Jack. Nobody dared question Kim.
"Good."
Jerry got the water just as Kim said and brought it to Rudy's office where they laid Isabella down on the couch.
Kim briefly coached Jerry, telling him to be gentle with Isabella and remind her that she was loved. Jerry complained, asking why Kim couldn't just do it herself, but Kim was insistent.
"Jerry, she is your cousin. Her mom has been sick and she has no father. She needs a male role model and she needs to know that her family loves her. So go in there and put her to bed or so help me I will kick you so hard you see stars. Got it?"
Jerry nodded. "You got it, Mamacita," he said quickly, disappearing into the office.
Kim just smirked to herself as she watched. She was exhausted, having spent so much time putting Isabella back in that cursed chair. It needed to happen and Kim knew what she had to do, but now she was glad to have a small break.
Suddenly arms wound around her from behind and Jack pressed a kiss to her cheek. "You're incredible."
Kim turned around to face Jack and wrapped her arms around him as well.
"Everyone needs a little help from time to time," she reasoned.
Jack just nodded.
"Maybe you should take a nap too," Kim suggested, realizing as tired as she was, Jack and Jerry had been dealing with Isabella for much longer.
Jack laid his head on Kim's shoulder. "Maybe…"
Kim chuckled at Jack's tired behavior. He never liked to admit when he was feeling anything less than 100% so the fact that he wasn't denying needing a nap said a lot. Childcare took a lot out of a person.
"Come on, big boy," Kim said, pulling Jack over to a big messy pile of mats. "Just lay down for a second."
"Will you lay with me?" Jack asked, giving Kim his best puppy dog eyes. Kim couldn't say no to that. She was weak, she knew, but she couldn't help it.
"Fine."
Jerry walked out of the office a moment later, looking relieved and carrying an extra blanket. When he saw the couple laying together on the ground, he surrendered his blanket to them and found his own pile of mats to rest his eyes too.
When Milton decided to go to the dojo, he had expected someone else to be there. He expected maybe Jack and Kim on another training date or maybe Jerry working with Rudy on some new invention. What he did not expect was 3 sleeping teens in the messiest dojo on the planet.
He had the thought to wake them up and ask them what in the world happened, but they looked so peaceful and tired he couldn't bear to do it.
Then a noise in Rudy's office had Milton walking towards it. He quietly peaked in the room and saw a little girl whining as she began to wake from her sleep. Even though she was young and a girl, Milton could see the family resemblance, she must have been the cousin Jerry had told him about a few days before.
Closing the door, Milton began the difficult task of waking up his friends.
He woke Jerry up first. It was easy, all it took was a little nudge and Jerry's eyes shot open.
"Milton?" he asked groggily.
"Yeah, I think your cousin is waking up."
Jerry's eyes frantically jumped to Rudy's office as he groaned. The nap had done him good, but if Isabella was anything like she was pre-nap, he wasn't sure he could take it.
"Where's Kim?" Jerry asked.
"Sleeping. I'm not waking her up," Milton said quickly, holding his hands up.
"I'm not waking her up," Jerry argued.
"Well then who is going to wake her up?"
"Jack?"
"Jack's asleep."
Jerry sighed, realizing they had to wake up one of them.
"Fine, I'll wake Jack up," Jerry conceded.
Slowly he crawled over to where Jack was and whispered his name.
Nothing happened.
Cringing, Jerry reached out and shook Jack's shoulder. Jack's hand reached out and took Jerry's wrist in a death grip.
"Ah!" Jerry cried. "Not cool man!"
Jack opened his eyes and it took him a second to realize Jerry was in front of him, Jerry was in pain, and that Jack was the one causing Jerry's pain.
Jack let go, although he didn't apologize, nobody liked being woken up from a good nap.
"You have to do it next time, Milton," Jerry complained.
Milton shrugged. "As long as I don't have to wake up her that's fine by me." Milton sent a pointed look next to Jack.
Jack looked over and realized Kim was still next to him, sleeping soundly. He smiled and pulled her closer with the arm around her body that she was laying on the entire time.
Jack placed a soft kiss on her forehead, whispering in her ear.
"Kimmy, wake up."
Jerry and Milton stared wide-eyed at each other, fearing for Jack's life. Nobody got away with calling Kim Kimmy, especially if she was cranky like she usually was after waking up. This was not going to be pretty.
But then, amazingly, Kim's eyes didn't shoot open. She didn't suddenly wake up and attack everyone. She didn't scowl or kick or fight.
Kim sighed.
She snuggled closer to Jack, murmuring something unintelligible in her sleep as she slowly entered the world of the living.
Jerry and Milton watched stunned as Kim's eyes softly fluttered. She squinted at the harsh dojo lights and turned to hide in Jack's shoulder.
Jack ran his hand up and down Kim's back, whispering quietly.
The others couldn't hear what he was saying, but whatever it was, it brought a content smile to Kim's face and she slowly sat up.
Jack stood up first before reaching down and helping Kim stand, holding on to her a little longer when she wobbled a little on her feet.
"So uhm…. Uh…" Jerry stuttered, losing his train of thought.
"Uh… Your cousin…" Milton reminded him, only slightly more composed than Jerry.
"Right… My cousin… Uh… Isabella! She's um, she's waking up," Jerry finally spit out.
Kim smiled. "I'll go get her then. Why don't you boys start cleaning this place up?"
"Sure," Milton squeaked, flabbergasted still but Kim's good mood after having been woken up.
Kim walked into Rudy's office to see Isabella squirming on the couch. Kim leaned down and kissed her head, helping her slowly wake up.
When Isabella was awake, Kim set to work on taming her poor pigtails. What Kim was sure was once an adorable little hairstyle was completely matted and tangled from her play and nap. Luckily, Kim always kept extra supplies at the dojo and she led Isabella into the girl's locker room, explaining that it was the special girls-only room.
Isabella giggled at that and allowed Kim to do her hair and help her go potty.
When they were all done, they reemerged and Isabella was surprisingly easy to convince to help clean up. When it was all said and done, Jerry drove everyone to get some dinner and they ate at a park where Isabella could play outside.
After her nap, Isabella was a completely different girl. Kim explained to Jerry that he needed to be firm and consistent, but he also needed to be patient with Isabella. She was only four and she was going through a lot for a girl her age.
While Jerry and Milton played tag around the playground with Isabella, Kim and Jack sat together on the bench.
"You know, you were like supergirl with Isabella earlier," Jack commented.
Kim blushed. "No I wasn't. You and Jerry were tired and you just needed a little coaching. That's all."
"One day," Jack remarked, "You're going to be the best mom."
Kim shook her head. "I don't know, Jack… Being a mom is different."
"It is," Jack agreed. "But you are the most amazing girl I've ever met, Kim. I'm being serious."
Kim blushed, looking away. She knew better than to push away the compliment, although she desperately wanted to.
"I'm not planning on being a mom anytime soon," Kim told Jack a little hesitantly, feeling like it was necessary to bring up.
Jack laughed at her. "I know, Kimmy. I know."
He pressed a kiss to her forehead as her face reddened and squished her close to his body. She was amazing.
