Title: Weekend Waves

Summary: With Jerry's uncle offering up his surf school resources, Kim jumps at the opportunity to do something fun with the guys. But when she pushes her luck too far she finds herself in trouble with an awkward situation.

Author's note: I actually just went surfing but I also wrote this before I went surfing haha so funny. Anyway, it's summer which means more writing time except I have a job that takes most of my day 5-6 days a week but here it is yeah this author's note is useless just me typing away absolutely nothing of substance but thanks for reading anyway lol.

"So Jerry told me something interesting today," Kim mentioned casually to the rest of the group. It was officially the weekend and they were all laying around together after practice ended, not ready to say goodbye but not knowing what else to do.

Jerry sighed and rolled his eyes, knowing where Kim was headed with that comment.

"What?" Milton asked curiously.

"He said his uncle has no students at his surf school today which means he offered up the unused boards and prime oceanfront landscape to Jerry and his friends. Aka, us." Kim smiled eagerly, waiting for her friends to jump at the opportunity.

Milton and Jack looked at each other, then Jerry, and back to Kim.

Too impatient, Kim didn't wait for them to answer. "So we can go surfing today!"

"I don't know... I have to-"

"It's a little muggy today-"

"He's kind of a creep-"

"Guys!" Kim interrupted. "Please?" she asked sweetly, batting her eyes. She really wanted to go.

"Fine," Jerry groaned.

Kim clapped as she jumped up and down. "Yay! Jack?"

Jack sighed, rolling his eyes as he nodded once. "If that's what you want to do."

Kim nodded eagerly. "Yup! Milton?" Kim asked, turning to the final friend. He couldn't say no now, not when Jack and Jerry had already agreed.

Milton groaned. "Fine."

Kim squealed as she hugged Milton. "Thanks, guys! This is going to be so much fun!" she said as she ran off.

The others just watched with a sigh, knowing they could never really say no to Kim. She was too spoiled with them.

Because it was kind of an impromptu visit to the beach, all Kim had was her swimsuit. It was summer and they never swam very far out where the water was really cold. It was a tankini anyways, with long sleeves and only a slightly cropped top, so the coverage was better than most other swimsuits.

Kim had her board first and was impatiently waiting for everyone else so they could get to the water.

"Guys, hurry up! Let's go!" she whined, already half out the door.

"Wait, I think I'm going to reapply my sunscreen one more time," Milton said, already turning to grab the bottle of sunscreen.

"Milton," Kim groaned, looking at Jack as if he would be able to fix anything.

"You can never be too careful. If you knew how at-risk you are for skin cancer you would be reapplying too," Milton warned. He had spent the entire time it took to get to the beach retelling a story of a kid who got skin cancer and died just a few years ago.

Kim let out another sound of impatience and crossed her arms.

Jack, sensing she was close to blowing, grabbed his board and walked towards her. He would much rather deal with an overly excited Kim than an angry one.

Grabbing her arm gently, he turned her towards the ocean.

"I'll go with Kim, why don't you two meet us out there in a little?" Jack suggested, not waiting for an answer.

Kim eagerly agreed, hurrying out to the ocean with her board in tow. It wasn't the easiest task, carrying your own board so far, but Kim managed it without a drop of sweat. Jack took a moment to admire just how strong Kim was. He knew she was active, extremely so, but to see that manifest in something so ordinary as carrying a surfboard made his heart race.

"Come on, Jack!" she yelled, going straight for the water. She didn't even pause at the shore to test the temperature. Jack knew it was chilly. It was always chilly.

Jack chuckled lightly at Kim's excitement. She didn't often let it show this potently.

Kim was quick to paddle out, beckoning Jack out to sea. Jack nodded but stayed back to watch her for just a second. She was acting so… Kim-like. Stubborn, driven, and yet unbearably attractive. He shook his head, pushing those thoughts back as he paddled out to have some fun.

The waves were fairly small, Jack honestly preferred it that way. He wasn't much of a surfer. He skated for sure, but he had little practice on the waves. Smaller waves were easier and he caught them more often. They were more fun. At least that's what Jack thought.

Kim, on the other hand, liked bigger waves. Nothing huge, she wasn't much of a surfer either. But she wasn't after smaller, constant waves like Jack. She wanted the bigger, more thrilling, but also more difficult waves.

Where Jack purposely skipped the bigger swells, Kim sought them out.

Before they had even paddled all the way out Kim spotted the perfect wave.

"Jack!" she called, nodding towards it.

Jack looked at it but shook his head. He wasn't far enough out nor had he caught enough waves to consider it yet.

"You go ahead!" he called back, smiling at her.

Kim grinned as she turned her board, getting ready to catch the wave.

As the wave approached Kim paddled quickly, catching the wave and riding it as she stood up with amazing agility. She was probably the most graceful surfer Jack had ever seen.

Jack whooped as Kim looked back, smiling wide as the water splashed her.

"Yeah, Kim!" he called.

Kim sent him a wink and pumped her fist triumphantly.

A few seconds later Kim turned her board to stop, falling into the water in the process. Not one to let any opportunity go, Kim saluted Jack as she fell, straight as a board, into the water.

Jack laughed and shook his head at her antics.

When Kim emerged from the water Jerry and Milton had finally come out to join them.

The next wave Jack caught and rode out right past Kim, tipping an imaginary hat as he went. Kim laughed and splashed some water at him, missing wildly.

Jerry and Milton caught up and soon they all were splayed out on their boards in a circle, laughing and talking as the summer sun beat down on them.

They took turns catching waves. They raced, made bets, took dares. Even Milton did a flip off his board on one of the smaller waves.

It was a great way to spend the day and the guys were really thankful that Kim had dragged them all out to the water. They got so caught up in their day-to-day life they forgot to branch out sometimes. They might have been content sitting in a sweaty dojo all the time, but Kim was not. She liked going out and seeing the world.

Jerry and Milton called it quits about an hour and a half later, getting tired and sunburned from being on the water for so long. Jack tried to coax Kim to shore too but she was having none of it.

"You coming with us, Jack?" Jerry asked before they got too far away.

Jack looked at Kim again. He was getting tired and thirsty but he wasn't about to leave Kim alone. There were other surfers out, who usually were pretty chill but there were a few territorial men who might get rough if Kim got in the way. The tide was also changing, it was getting more dangerous now. And it was just a general safety rule to always have a buddy out in the ocean. Anything could happen and the shore was too far away if Kim got into any sort of trouble.

"Why don't we take a short break, Kim?" Jack suggested. "Get some food and drinks, maybe play some games in the sand?"

Kim shrugged. That did sound fun, but she wasn't done surfing yet. She had a good time with the guys, but she was craving a big wave.

"One more?" she asked, begging Jack.

"Kim…"

"Please?" Kim begged. "I just want one more. You can go ahead with the others, I'll be right behind you."

Jack sighed, looking between Kim and Jerry and Milton who were waiting expectantly.

"Okay, but just one," Jack agreed.

Kim nodded in agreement. "You got it. See you soon!"

Kim watched as Jack turned around and began paddling with the others. She surveyed the area, trying to find a good spot for her last wave. Just because she was only riding one more did not mean she was riding the next available wave.

A little to the right Kim could see some bigger waves. They weren't all big, but some of them were about three feet. She wasn't a professional, but she felt confident enough to ride those.

She watched for a few more seconds before deciding to go for it.

She paddled over quickly, wanting to claim her spot.

A few waves crashed over her as she ducked down, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Now that she was here the waves felt bigger. Maybe her original estimate had been off. These were looking to be around four, maybe even five feet. A little scary, but Kim was up for the challenge. She was always up for the challenge.

As Kim spotted a growing lump in the distance she turned her board. It was shaping up nicely, it was going to crash in just the right spot.

As it approached, Kim took a deep breath and paddled with all the strength she had left, grateful that she caught the wave. She might not have had the arm strength to catch another one that size. When Kim stood up she smiled, feeling the chill breeze hit her front as the saltwater dripped down her face.

She looked around, wondering if anybody was there to witness the amazing wave. A few of the other groups around saw her and watched with smiles. Kim turned to the right and locked eyes with someone familiar. Jack.

She looked around to see where Jerry and Milton were but noticed they weren't with him. Had he not gone ashore with them?

Kim looked around again quickly and lost her balance. She screamed as her board was ripped out from under her, sending her crashing to the water headfirst. Her board launched forward and got lost in the waves as the current pushed Kim under.

It all happened so quickly that Kim didn't have time to react as the waves tossed her around under the surface, pinning her there.

Kim flailed her arms wildly, trying to figure out which way was up. When she felt the pressure release she kicked her feet as she finally broke the surface. She took a big gulp of air and wiped her eyes just in time to see another even larger wave come crashing over her.

She didn't have time to duck under and instead, the wave mercilessly grabbed her, flipping her around multiple times under the water.

She didn't know what was up or down. She didn't know how long she was under the water. She briefly wondered if this would be how she was going to die. What a terrible death it would be, drowning while surfing the one-foot waves with your friends.

Kim had been swallowed up by waves before but always on the shore and never by such big waves. This was new and the panic that gripped her chest made it even harder to hold her breath.

Before they reached the shore, Jack told Jerry and Milton he would hang back and wait for Kim after all. He just didn't feel right about leaving her in the water alone, even for just one wave.

She hadn't seemed to notice that he had stayed. He watched her look around and head for the bigger waves, now glad he had decided to stay back. She was too impulsive for her own good.

When she finally did see him, it was too late. She had a small smirk on her face that told Jack she knew what she was doing and she knew there was nothing he could do to stop her.

Jack did have to admit that the wave she caught was impressive, and when she made eye contact with him? That was hot. But then she lost her balance and fell right into the wave.

Her board shot forward but Kim remained below the surface.

Jack cursed as he swam as fast as he could towards her.

He was mildly relieved when he saw her head pop above the surface for a second but she couldn't see the wave that came next and crushed her.

It was just water but with currents like that it was so strong, it would knock the wind out of anyone. It could knock you out and drown you. Kim could be drowning right now.

Jack prayed that she would be fine as he ducked under a wave and continued paddling, not slowing down even to wipe his eyes. He ignored the sting and looked around frantically.

"Kim!" he shouted, looking around.

There were a few other surfers around who had seen what happened but they were still too far to help. Somebody ahead had grabbed Kim's board and sent it to shore, another reminder that Kim didn't have it.

"Kim!" Jack called again.

He saw a flash of gold, recognizing it as Kim's wild hair. She was coughing like a smoker, obviously unable to breathe very well, and flailing like a maniac.

Jack jumped off his board and swam to Kim, grabbing her arm and draping her body across his board.

"Thank goodness," he sighed, pushing Kim's hair out of her face. Her cheek was flush against his board as she sputtered and choked up more water. "It's okay, I've got you. We're going back to shore."

Kim tried to nod but all she could do was close her eyes and rub her face against Jack's board.

Jack took another look at Kim, rubbing her back encouragingly as she tried to catch her breath.

Jack swam to the side, where the waves were smaller, and worked with the current to push them towards shore quickly.

Jack stayed behind Kim, wrapping an arm around her waist to keep her from falling off and using the other to hold onto the board. He used his legs to kick them to shore.

When they were about fifteen feet from shore Kim stopped Jack.

"J-Jack," she coughed.

"Hold on, Kim," Jack said, looking towards the beach. "We're almost there."

"No, Jack."

"What?" Jack asked, pausing to look down at Kim.

"I can't. I…"

"You can't what? What happened?" he asked worriedly. Did she have a concussion? Did she swallow too much water?

"I can't get out."

Jack's heart skipped a beat. Did something happen to her legs? Was she really that weak from her fall? If she couldn't even walk then something really bad must have happened.

"It's okay, Kim. It'll be okay. I'll carry you out and then we can go see what's wrong, okay?" Jack said quickly and softly.

"No," Kim said, shaking her head. "I can't get out because… my bottoms came off. In the wave. I- I don't know where they went."

It took Jack a minute to process what Kim was saying. "What- What do you…"

"Jack, I'm… naked on the bottom," Kim whispered, extremely embarrassed.

She couldn't believe her luck. First, she almost drowned and now she lost her bottoms.

"Just go get me a towel or something. I'll just wait here," Kim said, urging Jack forward. The sooner she could get covered up the better.

She wasn't so tired that she couldn't walk, but the fall was physically taxing and she did want to lay down very much.

Jack looked towards the beach and shook his head. "No. I'm not going to leave you here. Even on the shore."

"But…" Kim really hoped Jack didn't intend on making her walk with him. She wasn't sure she'd be able to and then he'd probably carry her against her will and then everyone would see. Jack would see. Jerry and Milton would see.

Jack looked around, wondering how to possibly get around leaving Kim and having her walk around without anything.

He would give her his shorts in a heartbeat, but that would just cause other problems.

"Here," Jack said, pushing off the board. "Take my shirt."

Jack pulled off his rash guard. It was a tight fabric, designed to be small. It was too short for Kim to wear it like a dress so they'd have to wrap it around her waist.

Jack flopped the shirt on the board before swimming closer to shore. When they were right at the edge Jack waited for Kim to grab the rash guard and pushed the board to the sand.

"Okay," Jack sighed, turning back to Kim.

She was looking down with wide eyes, gripping the shirt like her life depended on it.

"Got it?" Jack asked cautiously.

Kim gulped and nodded. It wasn't like this was going to get any better.

With a grip firmly around Kim, Jack helped her out of the water.

Usually, Kim didn't require help getting out but she had one hand occupied, and the waves crashing kept pulling and pushing her. She would have lost her balance and flashed everyone without Jack's help.

"Jack," Kim whispered softly, nearly whimpering. "People are looking."

"Just ignore them, Kim," Jack sighed. He couldn't help that they were at a public beach. Kim was only acting as naturally as she could while walking half-naked across a public beach. He just wished he could help make her feel better.

Jack quickly led Kim towards the others who had set up on the sand.

Milton looked up when he heard Jack and Kim approaching. "Oh, you're back- Kim? Are you okay?"

Jerry's eyes snapped up as he took in the scene.

"Kim got caught in the wave," Jack explained, still keeping Kim close and covered as much as he could. "She swallowed a lot of water and her bottoms fell off."

Jerry snickered once but Jack silenced him with a harsh glare.

"I have my gym shorts here, Kim," Jack explained softly. "Jerry, Milton, stand up. Hold your towels out," he commanded, already digging through the large beach bag.

Milton and Jerry scurried off their towels, shaking off the sand and holding them out as Jack had said. They stood around Kim, leaving her almost entirely hidden from prying eyes. In her makeshift tent, Kim felt a little better.

When Jack found the shorts he had changed out of earlier and stuffed in the bag, he lifted them up and shook them out.

"Here they are," he said, offering them up to Kim.

Jack held them out for Kim, looking down to give her some privacy as she stepped in. When they were pulled up to her waist Jack tossed the rash guard aside and pulled the drawstrings tight, tying a tight knot to keep them from falling off.

"How do they feel?" Jack asked, judging how secure they were.

"Good," Kim nodded softly. "Thanks."

"You're welcome. Why don't you come sit down, okay?" Jack offered, clearing a spot between Jerry and Milton.

Kim nodded and sat down, grateful to be able to catch her breath. Jack wrapped a towel tightly around her shoulders, helping her warm up and dry off. When she poked her hands out Jack almost immediately shoved a water bottle into her hand, telling her to drink it while he went to grab the boards.

With Jack gone, Jerry and Milton felt obligated to make sure Kim was okay. The only problem was that they didn't know how to take care of her and they weren't subtle about it either.

"I'm okay, guys," Kim sighed, sensing their stares. When she looked up at them they were indeed watching her closely, sending each other confused looks and hand motions. "I'll be okay. I promise."

"Can we get you something?" Milton asked tentatively.

"Yeah, do you need someone to snuggle up with and keep you warm?" Jerry offered, a sneaky glint in his eyes as he already scooted closer.

"Back off, Jerry," Kim snapped. "Touch me and I'll shove your hand halfway up your butt so you just feel uncomfortable and in pain. Got it?"

Jerry just laughed and scooted away, nodding at Milton. "Yeah, she's fine."
