I slowly come to consciousness as I find myself in a dark room. I see that there are three old ladies below me. One is making thread, one is measuring it, and one is cutting it.
"That Jackson kid is gonna make trouble, believe me."
"Poseidon's demigod?"
"He will help us weave a brighter future."
I see them talking to each other as they all suddenly look at me. "And who is this?"
They reach out their hands and as they rush forward to grab me.
I suddenly wake up and see that I'm on a bed. As I scan the room, I can see Magellan snoozing in a chair next to me. I notice medical equipment and first aid kits as I realize that this is the infirmary.
I hear the door open as someone walks in. He sees you and has a big grin on his face. "He's awake! I was wondering how long you'd be out."
The declaration causes Magellan to wake up and look for any danger. He sees me awake and gives me a relieved smile. "I thought I lost you. I managed to get the camp director and we were able to come back. Well, I arrived at the end, but the director made it to you very soon after telling him," Magellan says as I remember what happened with the hellhound.
"The director shot the arrow? Must be a hell of a good shot," I say as the guy starts to check you over.
"Well, it looks like you've recovered pretty good. It was a little bit faster than I was expecting, to be honest. What parent is yours?" He says curiously
"Parent?" he asks, confusingly playing along with all of this. He looks at Magellan, who has a concerned look on his face.
"He's brand new to camp. Is he able to go to Chiron?" Magellan asks.
The guy nods his head. "Yeah, he should be good." He looks at me. "Make sure to come back here after so I can check just to make sure you're all cleared." I nod as he sticks out a hand. "The name is Michael Yew."
I accept it, "Jack Bar."
I get off the bed as I feel a bit weak with my chest, but it's feeling much better. Magellan walks over and supports me as I try to find my balance. Magellan walks me out of the infirmary as I look around.
I can see that there are people walking all around, some even with weapons. There are 13 cabins arranged in a circle, and I assume the Big House is at the top of the hill, with the infirmary at my back. I can see a climbing wall with lava flowing out. "Is that Lava?" Magellan looks over at where I'm looking
"Oh yeah, that's a challenge that we have. We offer multiple classes here. Come on, our destination is the Big House."
We make our way to the Big House, and as we enter I see a guy sitting in a wheelchair reading a book before looking up at me. "Well my boy, I'm so glad you are able to join us. I'm Chiron, the camp director for Camp Half-Blood."
He offers his hand as I take it. "Jack Bar. Someone is supposed to explain something to me apparently."
He nods, "Yes, I do believe that is in order. Tell me, what do you know about Greek mythology?"
I look at him puzzled. "Not much. There are major gods, minor gods, some demigods or something, but I don't remember many names or stories. Why? Aren't they just myths?"
I hear a snort from the corner as Chiron shakes his head. "I'm afraid my boy that they are very much true. You are the son of one of the Greek Gods." I try to look shocked, but Chiron sees through it. "You already knew something or at least suspected."
I shrug as I decide to make a little lie. "I always felt like something was wrong with me, but I just couldn't put my finger on it." Chiron nods his head
"Yes, I could see that. Now, the question is, which God or Goddess are you the son of? Do you have a mother or a father?" I shake my head. "I don't know my mother or my father."
Chiron looks at me with curiosity. "Now that is curious. Usually, a demigod has one parent that they know of. Well we will find out who your parent is later. As for now, you will be in Hermes Cabin. Magellan, will you show him where that is? Also, if you see Annabeth, let her know I would like to see her."
Magellan nods as he starts to lead me outside until I hear over in the corner. "Great, another whiny kid to deal with."
I bristle with anger as I look over in the corner. There is a pot-bellied man with brown hair and a Hawaiian shirt and pants. "Should I know who he is too?" I ask Magellan as he looks at me scared.
"He... Um... Well he's..." Magellan stutters out as Chiron takes pity on him.
"That is the camp director." I look at Chiron. "I thought you were the camp director." Chiron shakes his head. "I'm the activities director. He is the camp director by order of Zeus." I look over him again, and he has a bored look in his eyes. "Now, Magellan, if you wouldn't mind." Chiron gestures towards the door.
I shake off Magellan as I continue to look at Dionysus. Powerful though he is, and his powers to influence the mind are practically unchallenged, he's honestly nothing more than a wasted Olympian. Theaters, Arts, Wine and Nature. Honestly, only one of those was helpful, and he probably got that last one from Pan, who I know is still alive.
"Then I shall see myself out, Lord Dionysus. God of Wine, Arts, Theater, and Nature." I nod to him, as he has a surprised look on his face. I turn to Chiron. "Chiron," I give him a nod as he is looking at me with wide eyes. I walk to the door and open it as I hear behind me.
"What's your name?" I look back to see Dionysus with a shocked but pleased look on his face.
"My name is Jack, my Lord."
He nods. "It seems that there is at least one person with manners in this group of snot-nosed kids. I'll be sure to remember your name." I'm a bit shocked at that, as he is famous for purposely calling people by the wrong name.
"Thank you, my Lord," as I slightly bow to him. I grab Magellan's arm and gently drag him out the door as he still has a shocked look on his face. "H-How did you...? I thought you didn't..."
Magellan struggles to get out a sentence as I give him a grin. "Ah, it's just the wonders of being me," I say, mock poshly. "Now!" I say to get his attention, "This Hermes Cabin. Where is it?"
Magellan shakes his head to clear it. "Come on. This way," He leads to one of the cabins.
The cabin is in poor condition with peeling brown paint and a caduceus over the door. I see two people talking. "Hey Luke! Annabeth!" The two stop talking, and I can see who they are.
Annabeth looks the same as described in the books. She has blonde hair with tan skin and stormy grey eyes. Her hair is in a ponytail and she's wearing her orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt.
Luke also looks the same. He's tall, with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. He has a scar...wait, where is the scar? I vaguely remember that Luke goes on a quest to retrieve the Golden Apples, gets a scar, and fails the quest. That's when his hatred for the Gods burns even more. Could I have gotten to a point before he got the quest?
"Hey Magellan. Who's that behind you?" Luke says.
Magellan puts his hand on my shoulder. "Another person for Hermes Cabin,"
Luke observes me. "Hermes or unclaimed?"
"Unclaimed," says Magellan. I hear distant groaning from inside as Luke smiles at me.
"Well, welcome to the Hermes Cabin. Come on inside. I'll help you get settled."
I nod as Magellan tells Annabeth that Chiron needs her. She nods and heads off to the Big House. I wave goodbye to Magellan as he starts walking away as well, and me and Luke head inside.
I see that the inside is pretty crowded, with many people on the floor and the beds. There are various items all over the place, most of them being things they probably stole.
"This is where you'll be sleeping." He pats an empty bed. "You got any stuff?"
I shake my head. "Nope, just the clothes on my back, my wallet, some strange coins, and" I pull out my Celestial Bronze dagger, "This."
I can see Luke looking approvingly at the dagger. "Very nice. How well do you wield it?" He asks.
I shake my head. "It doesn't feel right to me."
Luke nods. "Daggers can be tricky to wield and are usually meant to be a secondary weapon."
I nod at that. "Do we have any other weapons here at camp?"
He nods his head. "Yeah. We have an armory. Come on, I'll show you. Might as well give you a bit of a tour while we are at it."
We walk out of the cabin, and he points out to me about the stables, the Amphitheater, and the training arena. "In that direction is the Archery Range. Usually, only the children of Apollo visit there often, though others will join to brush up on their skills. Chiron will help out occasionally, so you might see him there too,"
I nod. "It might be best to go over there at some point. I've never shot a bow." I shot with a bow once in my previous life, but that was it.
Luke nods his head. "That might be best. Archery is very useful."
We walk over to a big building, which I assume is the armory. One of the doors cracked open, and I could already see dozens of weapons. I can hear metal clanging as I see people using some forges nearby.
"Those are the children of Hephaestus. They do amazing work, especially with all of the weapons. If you have a custom weapon you'd want to use or have an upgrade you want to try to have, they are the best people to ask," Luke says as he sees me looking at them.
"Can others use the Forge as well?" I ask him curiously.
He nods his head. "Yeah, but it won't be easy. They have the gift of being able to make things. What would take you years would only take them weeks." I nod at that as Luke leads me inside.
I can see rows of different weapons. Swords, spears, shields, daggers, and even some wooden bows strengthened with Celestial Bronze and some quivers of arrows. There are even some non-standard weapons like a club, some axes, some gauntlets, a few maces, and war hammers; you can even see a rapier. I'm in awe of seeing so many weapons.
I hear Luke snort as you turn to him. "You back with us now?" He says teasingly as he stretches out his arms.
"Welcome to the Armory. You can most likely find anything you want here. So, what weapon are you looking for? If I can recommend the sword and shield, it is the most basic one to have," as he walks over to the swords.
I follow him as you test out the swords. None of them feel I right as you test other weapons. You pick up one of the gauntlets and try it on.
"Gauntlets, huh? That's different, to be sure." I turn around as Luke is looking at me with curiosity.
"Just trying it out. I got an idea for a future weapon using this as a base," as I take them off and put them back.
"A future weapon huh? You might want to talk to Hephaestus Cabin about that. You know what it will look like and how it will work, right?" He asks me
I nod. "I roughly know how it will look and work, but I think for now," I walk over to the spears and try a few experimentally until I pick up one spear that feels better than the rest. It's handle is black carbon steel with a simple spear head that is great for slashing and stabbing.
"I think I'll take this one." I look at it with appreciation.
Luke walks over. "Spears then? More of a long-range dealer?"
I nod. "Yeah, I like it when I can control the battle," I say with a grin. "Plus, there's another way I can use a spear."
Luke looks at me with a grin. "Figuring out future strategies already? Good!"
He claps me on my arm. "Well, if you need anything else, you can talk to Hephaestus cabin," he said as he leads me out of the armory.
